Microsoft push Halo 3 on PC to compete with Steam?

November 26, 2008

Microsoft push Halo 3 on PC to compete with Steam? Microsoft is known for leaking top secret news accidentally through its marketing campaign. In the past the company revealed that Gears of War and Halo 2 would be coming out on the PC accidentally by showing pictures of the games on advertisements. It seems that Microsoft may have accidentally let the cat out of the bag early with Halo 3.

Just a few months ago, Microsoft sent out marketing emails to Games for Windows subscribers. In that email there was a curious picture showing all the games users would be able to download onto their PC from the Games of Windows site. In that picture, many users noticed that Halo 3 was listed as one of the games that users would be able to download from the service.

This is similar to what happened with Gears of War, a picture of the game was visibly shown at the bottom of an advertisement for Games for Windows. As part of Microsoft’s new marketing campaign, the company has launched a revamped Web site. Microsoft also recently converted the pay-to-play model for Games for Windows over to a free model to compete with Steam.

Another clue can be seen on the Games of Windows site currently. On the revamped Web site, users will notice a picture of Halo 3 advertised in the Marketplace. It seems like all the clues are there that Halo 3 will be coming out on the PC sometime soon. Considering that Halo 1 and Halo 2 were both out on the PC, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for Halo 3 to be on the PC as well.

Another game that is rumored to be coming out on the PC is Fable II. Considering that Fable 1 was on the PC there is a good chance that the sequel will also be out on the PC. Gamers who have not had a chance to play these games may finally get the opportunity very soon. I suspect that Microsoft will be making many of its first party titles, such as Gears of War 2, Fable 2 and Halo 3 available on the PC to give Steam a run for its money.

I wonder why Pc users get free Lan while playing a multi player match on Halo, but 360 users have to pay 60 dollars a year for the same service???

  8. phranctoast:

I love how the 360’s best exclusives keep ending up on the PC as well. If you have an high end PC there’s hardly need for a 360. I wonder if Halo 3 PC will allow PC people to play 360 people (like shadowrun)

  9. SW:

Halo will die a painful death on PC. PC gamers have too many GOOD fps’s to play.

up urs Hairy… you aint cool for “teh Home”

  15. Barnabe Jones:

From what I have read, it is supposed to only be a 3-5 hour game… I would seriously hope they do not charge more than $20 for either version. But since it is Halo, you can expect to pay $60 and read all of the BS reviews poring in giving it 10s. At this point though, Bungie can poop in a box and the Xbots will love it.

  16. Barnabe Jones:

Isn’t Steam developed by Valve? Doesn’t Valve love and favor the 360? I would laugh if M$ does this to compete with them. Serves Valve right for jumping into bed with the likes of M$. I just hope Valve used protection.
