Burnout devs fight used game market with massive DLC
The devs who created Burnout Paradise have promised their support for the game long after its release. It seems that they are making good on their promise with the plethora of downloadable content (DLC) that has been released thus far. Also, it is important to note that the majority of the DLC has been free. Burnout Paradise may be the first game to actively combat the used video game market head on.
According to Criterion Games, the latest DLC to be released for Burnout Paradise is a whole new area called Big Surf Island. This is probably the largest DLC to be released for the game. According to the devs, the new expansion will offer gamers hundreds of hours exploring the sprawling island.

There is even a tower you could drift all the way to the top in order to jump off. The devs have indicated that if there is a place you can see, chances are that you can drive on it. However, unlike many of the previous DLC that was provided, this one will have a price tag on it.
The devs explained that they had originally planned for the DLC to be free, but after spending much more time in development than originally anticipated, the decision was made to go all out and subsidize the cost of development by charging for it.
This is Criterion Game’s continuous effort to combat the used video game market with DLC. The developers have done an excellent job of making it hard for gamers to sell their copy of Burnout Paradise. According to the company:
Big Surf is the culmination of everything we learned creating Paradise City, and we want it to bring you a truly spectacular new experience – the highlight of a year of incredible premium content. Burnout already delivers incredible value for money – literally hundreds of hours of gameplay with your original disk or PSN purchase, plus more with the free Cagney Pack and free Burnout Paradise Bikes.
It will be interesting to see if other developers will follow in Criterion Game’s footsteps. Other EA studios have been following suit with Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge. Only time will tell if such tactics will truly kill off the used video game market.

this Paying for DLC content is stupid, game studios are going to make all there content early on, sell the game for 60 bucks and sell little shit that takes them a couple hours to make for 1.99. gaming developers are going to become very greedy!!!
LBP, 1.99 for a new character skin come on
NFS DLC, you could spend over a 100 dollors on there extra cars, when GT5 comes out it will have 3x as many cars to start with!! and still only cost 60. gamers need to boy cott purchasing DLC
