Top 100 best video games of all time
For the past two months, we here at Blorge have been voting for our choice of greatest game ever made. The results are now in, and so we can unveil the official list of the ‘Top 100 best video games of all time’, at least according to Blorge readers.
Metal Gear Solid 4 was voted the greatest game of all time by quite a margin, beating Zelda: Ocarina Of Time by over 50 votes. With it being a current generation game, I wonder if it would retain its number one slot if the poll were held in a few years?
In all, five out of the top 10 games are current gen, with just one of those being a PS3 exclusive. The Xbox 360 has two exclusives in the top ten, with the other two current gen titles being multi-platform.
Most, if not all, platforms have at least one entry in the list, with Elite on the BBC Micro being amongst the earliest, along with the Arcade classic, Pacman. LittleBigPlanet managed number 11 despite only having been released while the poll was taking place. And Killzone 2 managed number 20 despite not even being out yet.

As is de rigeur with Blorge polls, there were a few joke answers sneaked in by our readers. I’ve removed these from the Top 100 to keep it pure, but they deserve their own mention. Chuck Norris’ Mom managed to secure 106 votes, placing her in eighth place overall. The rest were way down the list, with Rick Roll managing nine votes, the number 1 securing five, and The Hoff getting three.
There were also two games mentioned that are notoriously mentioned in most ‘worst games ever’ lists, and so have been removed to the joke answers section. If you want to count your blessings and have a laugh in the process, just click the YouTube links for Superman 64 or Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing.

When Gears of war 1 beats Gears of war 2 it just shows how much of a joke this Poll really is. Polls from bigger sites like iGN and Joystiq would have more merit. We who come here a lot know that this is a PS3 Fanboy flooded site so MGS4 being #1 is an even bigger joke.

What I take most from this poll is that if one assumes this site caters to “serious” gamers, then running around killing things (or people) is what “serious” gaming means. A sad state indeed.

Personally, I don’t think any Xbox games deserves to be on the top ten video games list of all time.
They simply don’t ‘t appeal to me, and Halo just looks like Metroid.

It’s kind of a joke as Killzone 2 is on there. The game may very well turn out to be the best game ever, but to have it on an all time list before it’s released to the public seems stupid.

MGS4 is close to my top, but I voted for Resident Evil 4. It was the first game to really use the over the shoulder shooting mechanic. Also it was jam packed with memorable moments, epic boss fights, and tense situations. Halo 3 on the other hand, was nothing more than a high res version of Halo 2.

I have played both. Nether one is horrible, but not that amazing. The co-op and the multiplayer are ok, but the story and single player game sucked. Those little Muppet looking creatures that you shoot are not very impressive or exciting. The story for the game plays out like a Sc-Fi channel original series (like Mass-Effect). The main character (Master Chief) is generic, faceless, and doesn’t have a personality. Who cares if he lives or dies? I know a lot of people loved every second of the Halo series, but I just couldn’t get into it or see the apeal.

Actually there are novels that give insight into the halo universe..to bad you didn’t know that otherwise you wouldn’t have made your “generic” statement….
most people think snake is “generic” (or could be geriatric) in MGS4… everyone has opinions…

I’ve read three of the Halo novels and they’re freaking awesome. The only weak one I’ve read is the one based on the first game, simply because the first game didn’t have a whole lot of story to fill up a novel.
Still, no matter how one feels about the story in the games themselves, they’ve inspired some damn great science fiction novels.
