Top 5 PSP RPG games to get
As it gets closer to Christmas, some RPG gamers may be scratching their heads as to what games they can ask their loved ones to get them for the PSP. If you are an avid RPG fan, look no further as I list the top five RPG games to get on the PSP.
Many gamers probably think that the only good games on the PSP are hack and slash games, like God of War: Chains of Olympus. However, unbeknownst to many PSP owners, there are actually quite a decent amount of excellent RPGs on the handheld platform. RPGs on the PSP is a topic that usually doesn’t get covered nearly as much as it should, so here at Gamer.Blorge I took the liberty to list the top five RPGs on the PSP.
5. Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure
Gurumin is a fun RPG game that is very similar to Zelda. You could say that the story is a cross between Alice and Wonderland and Zelda. The game is an action RPG, so fans who are not into turn-based RPGs should enjoy this game. Similar to Zelda, you have puzzles that need to be completed by moving blocks or objects around the screen.
The game also has a decent amount of side-quests to keep you occupied if you want to take a break from the main story. The items in Gurumin are one of the greatest things about the game. You can actually accessories the character with items like cat ears that will boost your power.
If you are an impatient bloke like me, you can actually download this straight off the PSP store via PC or PSN store via PS3 for a low price of $14.99.
4. Jeanne D’Arc
This game was developed by the famed RPG studio, Level-5. Most of you may know some of their work such as: Rogue Galaxy (PS2), White Knight Chronicles (PS3) and Professor Layton series (DS).
This game is loosely based on the famous historical figure Joan of Arc. Now I do say loosely because there are monsters and demons you have to fight in the game. However, the story is superb with excellent audio and visuals.
The graphics are beautiful with awesome cut scenes that look like something out of an animated film. This is one SRPG all PSP owners should play.
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
This game is a remake of the famed game on the PS2. Unlike the original, this new SRPG contains extra story and characters. The game offers a chance to use a different character resulting in a brand new story.
The game features dual language with Japanese and English audio options. One of the innovative features this game has is the multiplayer mode. You can play with different gamers throughout the world via ad hoc in multiplayer.
Gamers can order this game off Amazon for around $25.
2. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Crisis Core takes a slight departure from your normal Final Fantasy game. This is an action hack and slash RPG. After the wildly popular success of Final Fantasy VII, many gamers have been begging for more. Square Enix managed to deliver a prequel to the highly acclaimed game with Crisis Core.
Gamers will find that developing cat like reflexes by evading and attacking will be more valuable than grinding to beat the game.
1. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
War of the Lions is probably considered to be the best SRPG made on the PSP. Even though the game is a remake of the original on the PSOne, the PSP version is a new beast altogether. The gameplay has been tuned and revamped for better play and the cut-scene have been all created using beautiful cel-shaded technology.
There is also an addition to the story as well as classes and characters. Since this game is part of the new Ivalice Campaign, there is brand new story integration with Final Fantasy XII. One of the characters you can control is Balthier. You may remember him from FFXII as the slick talking sky pirate. The job class system is still considered to be the best in the genre. With a new local co-op mode, this is definitely the premiere version.
This game actually came out near the end of last year so gamers should be able to pick this awesome title up from Gamestop for a bargain price of $19.99.
There you have it folks, five great RPG games to keep those long drives to the relatives filled with fun and joy.

The only game on the list I played was Crisis Core. That game was good, but after a while the battles got a little repetitive and not very challenging.
I have never played any of the Final Fantasy Tactics games, but I have heard a ton of good stuff about them. That is probably next on my list.

Barnabe, I have to agree FFVII CC got to be a bore after about the 20th rehashed mission with the same environment and enemies, but it was good, especially for a PSP game. I just wish PSP had nearly as many quality RPG titles as the DS (without all the fodder). Maybe next year.
I think the main reason Nintendo has succeeded on both the console and handheld front is because they managed to be the cheapest (by a significant margin) while still producing quality titles (even if there are a lot of old ones).
I heard the title Blue Ocean bandied about for the companies philosophy on the Wii, and I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the DS as well.
Anyway, Dungeon Siege is definitely one of the better RPG’s on the PSP, along with Puzzle Quest, IMHO. Right now I’m rolling through Alien Syndrome, which is alright.
