Rumored Games for 2009: Crysis, GTA on PSP
The year is quickly wrapping up with only a few more weeks to go before the new year. With that in mind, I decided to reach out my feelers to pick up on the rumored games for 2009. Some of the responses I received may surprise you such as a potentially new Grand Theft Auto game on the PSP.
I reached out to a few of my acquaintances in the gaming community to ping them on what are the latest rumors circulating the industry. Some of the responses I received were surprising and some were not.
Team ICO game
The mysterious Team ICO game for the PS3 has been rumored to be coming out in 2009 for a very long time. Also, after time and time again, fans have been disappointed with no announcement made regarding the game. Rumors were circulating that the game would be announced during the Video Game Awards, but that turned out to be absolutely false. Many are now speculating that this announcement has to come out during GDC or TGS next year.
Crysis: PS3, Xbox 360
A console version of Crysis has got to be one of the most speculated games of this year. The game was even hinted inside the rumor sections of the Official Playstation Magazine and Electronics Gaming Monthly. With the port of the CryEngine 2 to Xbox 360 and PS3 it seems more than likely some form of Crysis will end up on the consoles. With Crytek remaining silent for the most of the year, its a safe bet they will announce something in 2009.
LA Noire
LA Noire has remained elusive for sometime now. The game is being developed by Team Bondi, which consists of ex-Sony London studio members. This is the same team that created the multi-million selling Getaway series. After the announcement of a new partnership with Rockstar Games, many are expecting big things from LA Noire.
Secret Rockstar Game for the PS3
Jack Tretton head of the U.S Sony Playstation division teased many gamers by indicating that they have an agreement with Rockstar Games on a new exclusive game for the PS3. This was also reiterated on the Playstation Blog as well. During E3 Take-Two showed a teaser trailer for a game titled Red Dead Revolver 2 behind closed doors. Many speculate that this is indeed the exclusive game for the PS3. However, with no clarification from either Rockstar Games or Take-Two this has yet to be seen.
Grand Theft Auto on PSP
There is a fairly new rumor that has been doing the rounds lately. It is in regards to a new Grand Theft Auto game that may be in the works for the PSP. Rockstar Games has always made Grand Theft Auto games on the PSP and Nintendo’s handhelds during the interim in between the major home console releases. When compared to the home console versions, the handheld iterations have always been economic to develop. Given the fact that both GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories sold approximately 10 million units combined on the PSP, it is a no brainer they will continue to develop games for the PSP. Recently, Rockstar Games revealed a new iteration for the DS; it seems more than likely that a PSP version will follow shortly.
Oblivion on PSP
Is this game canceled or what? Rumors that this game has been canceled have been circulating for the good part of last year. Gamestop even stopped the pre-orders on this game, sending out emails indicating the game was canceled. However, rumblings that this game is alive and well have been whispered around the Web. There is even a plausible speculation that Bethesda Studios may even gear this game to align with the next version of Oblivion on the PS3 and Xbox 360. There is one ray of hope, near the end of last year after Gamestop canceled the pre-orders; Peter Hines V.P. of Marketing and Public Relations at Bethesda had this to say about the PSP version of Oblivion, “We haven’t changed our stance that we are not talking about this title right now.”
There you have it folks a nice plethora of rumors to keep you going for another year of gaming.

Yeyyy, rumors. Wouldn’t mind Crysis on the ol’ console, but unless it is graphically similar to the PC version, I may just stick to PC.

umm… Royzy… I dont think that Crysis on the consoles would look ANYWHeRE near as nice as the PC version…
team Ico game?? is the name of the dev “Team Ico” kinda funny… also Team Ico is WAY beyond rumor… I havent heard of a name… a description… or anything… Sony usually builds up hype WAY before the game is even close to finishing… like Home

My statement was kind of a ‘yeh it would be nice, but not going to happen’. I’m interested to see how good the graphics would come out on the consoles though.

Supposedly from what I remember hearing LA noire is supposed to be one of the biggest, most ambitious games RockStar has ever made. If that’s true, then it will defiantly be multiplatform.
Did anyone catch the new trailer for FFXIII vs? Did you notice the “PS3 world wide exclusive” flash at the end? I did.

I just had a look at those trailers for both FFXIIIs too, though turns out the trailers are actaully from a little while back, just weren’t shown publicly before (so pre – 360 port announcement). Versus is still exclusive as far as we know though! I can’t wait.

also… I heard from a podcast… that the three year warranty is only for the red ring… if some other shit goes down after the first year… its not guaranteed… Im not sure whether this is true or not…

Thats true. If it’s anything the extended warranty doesn’t cover it.
Even better than that though. They replace your broken console with a refurbished console of the same type that will eventually RROD on you as well. They do that and don’t bump the warranty up on the other replacement console. So they replace a piece of shit with a piece of shit. One way or another your going to have to buy an new one after three years.

No wonder there sales are doing well. There’s probably no way to do it… but I would love to see the break down of how many 360 owners purchased multiple consoles due to hardware failure. Then I would like to see a break down of those people’s IQs.

Actually they are replacing any Xenons that RROD with later chips, not exactly the same type. But why let the truth get in the way of a great story, huh?

If they replace the old chips with newer chips then why do the people that get the rrod also tend to get it in their replacement console? Are all those people angry fanboys making shit up? I personally know people that have had the rrod issue, returned it to MS and also had the replacement break.

They have begun replacing Xenons with the Opus chips recently, which are being dubbed ‘Xbox zombie killers’, whatever that means.
