Get Killzone 2 demo while it lasts
The demo for the highly anticipated game Killzone 2 will be coming out soon. However it seems that not everyone will be able to get their hands on this hot commodity. Gamers may have to fight to get their hands on one of these promo codes.
Gamers will be able to get a hold of the promo code to download the Killzone 2 demo once they pre-order the game at Gamestop starting Jan. 5. It is unclear what will be in the demo but chances are good that it will include a portion of the single player campaign with a taste of the online multiplayer.
I have had some extensive hands on time with the online multiplayer portion during the beta and I have to say that Killzone 2 may have one of the most engaging online mode ever seen in a FPS. Currently, there are no other games on the home consoles that even comes close to Killzone 2 in terms of graphics.
Due to an embargo, review scores have yet to be released, but a German site seems to have gotten their hands on an early issue of the OPM which scores Killzone 2 a perfect 5/5. Also, according to Gamestop, the promo codes are limited so once they run out there will be no more codes. Gamers who are looking forward to the title can go to any Gamestop or EBgames and put $5 down to pre-order their copy of Killzone 2.
Also look forward to our review of the game as it gets closer to the launch date. Killzone 2 has been complete for sometime now and has been going through the final paces over the past several months. Gamers can expect the launch of the title in North America Feb. 27 and Feb. 25 in Europe.

Wow Sony you make people get Pre-Orders just to let them have a shot at the game. A Demo for crying out loud. Looks like Sony forgot what a demo is indended for. Not to boost your sales. Talk about Desperate!!! That what online Betas are for. A even funnier concept is Prolouge for GT and that was suppose to arrive in Dec 08. But I forgot we are talking about Sony!!!!!

well it looks good but graphically better then gears I think not. Very close though. But really how much of that was actual game play. I think that the First person shotter view was the game but I’m not sure. Lets see some real game footage and not CG work. I bet the games runs at 720P or lower.
January 4th, 2009
CAD,
Don’t worry, you can still get the demo on PSN a few weeks before launch date without pre-ordering.
I believe the pre-order demo contains phase 3 beta of the online as well. I tested the phase 2 last month.
oh, I can assure you no CG its all in-game. It does look much better than Gears 2, and that really speaks volumes. The developers have said the game uses 2GBs of textures per level in the single player mode, with very minimal compression used per textures.
I’ll give you guys my hands on preview of the demo next month. I think I put in close to 60 hrs on the beta, it definitely is a great game.
Speaking of Gears 2, time to get back to it – about to break wave 50 at the Fuel Station. Horde is freaking addictive!!

“Currently, there are no other games on the home consoles that even comes close to Killzone 2 in terms of graphics.”
Does this mean it blows away MGS4 in terms of graphics?
January 4th, 2009
What a complete waste of time. The idea of a demo is to demonstrate to POTENTIAL buyers what the game will be like so whats the point in giving codes out to people who have already bought the game?!

Did I read that right? Us Europeans are actually getting a release *before* the USA?
I think I’m gunna faint.
January 4th, 2009
lock_down its only because guerilla games is made in Europe rather than a developer being generous.

If the graphics are better than MGS4’s graphics at their best, then that is astonishing.
MGS4’s graphics were amazing in places, then went a bit patchy, especially towards the end. Probably because they didn’t want to delay it any more.
But if KZ2 has better graphics than in Act 2 of MGS4 (which were stunning), then that will be amazing.
January 4th, 2009
ok i was in the phase 2 beta and HOLY @#$% the graphics were amazing even for a *512MB* FILE SIZE! IT HAD TO BE COMPRESSED WHICH MADE WEAKER GRAPHICS FOR THE BETA. this has got to be the best ingame graphics yet in the history of console games.
imagine the full blu-ray disk version, you gotta thank sony into risking and brining blu ray out, its definenetly worth it so far, id rather not be stuck with 8.5gb multiple disks for a gen like this.
some people just dont know anything about it if they havnt played it. its gonna kik ass no matter what you guys say.
January 4th, 2009
and yes, Mike Ferro is right about the ingame part. hhm i wonder how much of the ps3’s power this game uses.
and Guerilla is doing everything they can to wow ps3 fans with this game, some say kz1 sucked, others say it was good. but KZ2 is far superior to that.
January 4th, 2009
60%-70% of the PS3’s SPU power KZ2 uses apparently.

oh and CAD, when did Sony ever say the demo was to boost their sales when they’re already giving it out to people who are BUYING the game already.
well maybe its to show the demo to friends and stuff, but whatever WHATS WRONG WITH A DEMO THAT COMES WITH A PRE-ORDER? it shows that they’re getting close to launching it, dont hate the demo part.
January 4th, 2009
and the best part is… NO INSTALL!!! YEAH!!! No install needed…. Wooo Hooo
CAD… if you had kept your eyes and ears open… and saw the 1up show… you would know that most of the critics are calling this the best graphics they have seen in a console… and the devs are still polishing it… I know they only played the beta… but they also got a preview copy with 6 levels…
I dont know whether this has the best graphics or not… it hasnt come out yet… but im hyped for it…
dont care how much PS3 power it uses… if the single player and multiplayer isnt good… whats the point of a game with jaw dropping graphics…
do we know whether this has co op?? it would be fun to play it with bourne or Arvis… does anyone know??
January 4th, 2009
also I wont pre order it… specially in Gamestop… bunch of money grabbing arseholes…
January 4th, 2009
Listen it looks like a good game and I will play it. Any game worth trying I will play.
January 5th, 2009
lock_down,
remember, the graphics are not just “better” than MGS4, but MGS4 does not “even come close to Killzone 2 in terms of graphics.”
January 5th, 2009
thats the thing CAD… I argue for games like Uncharted and MGS 4 because I really enjoyed playing them… and something that is good should be enjoyed be more people… Im sure you get that feeling when you play games like Gears of war and Halo… good things should be shared with the world…
if you ever do buy a PS3 I strongly suggest getting those games…
January 5th, 2009
Ferro,
Thanks for clearing that up. I was also confused on why Sony would only give the Demo to people who have already bought the game. I am anxious to try this game out. I won’t go crazy about the graphics talk until I get to play it.

Wylie77,
Wise man.
January 5th, 2009
Can’t wait – I was one of the (few) people who thought the first one was great.
January 6th, 2009
can’t understand why people are so hyped over a sequel to very decidedly BELOW average game. Guerrilla new that by showing CGI they would create unfounded hype and it’s still working. now, if they can just learn how to make a good game. Not only was Killzone pretty bad (don’t believe me, check the reviews) but Shellshock:vietnam (the other guerrilla offering last gen) was arguably one of the WORST war games ever released.
it would be wise to wait until the final game before hyping the graphics, gents.
finally, it’s odd the SAME ps3 fanboys claiming “all the360 has is shooters” is now hyping the ps3’s shooters.
given the paultry offerings of the ps3’s library, i can understand the excitement, but really, killzone has NEVER been considered a “great” franchise on par with Halo, GeOW, etc….. why now? hmmmm….
January 6th, 2009
I like how in the world of kev that if a developer makes a bad game (which granted Killzone 1 was) that by default their next game will also be bad.
The opinions from the people who have the beta speak for themselves that Killzone 2 is a massive improvement over the first one.
January 6th, 2009
lockdown – EVERY guerrilla game has sucked. i listed both for you. please read first, post second. thanks.
hype is a funny thing; people also SWORE the cgi move shown was “proof of the ps3’s power”. yet, do date, NO ps3 game has matched the graphics of the kz movie shown. i’m sure there are those that think it’s an improvment over the last, but given the poor gameplya of the last, it shouldn’t be hard to improve on it.
the final game will say for certain, i’m sure.
January 6th, 2009
lockdown – said guerrilla gameS are bad. it’s not just killzone. it’s not hard to improve on “meh”-quality…
January 6th, 2009
sorry the repeat..slow server apparently….
January 6th, 2009
I didn’t believe you Kev, so I did check the reviews. They weren’t THAT bad. Metacritic has it on 70%.
Now, I’m not saying ‘yeh I will settle for games that aren’t as good as Halo/GeOW blah blah blah’. It was a big let down after the hype and should of been a lot better.
But being ‘bad’ and ‘not as good as expected’ are still very different.
“finally, it’s odd the SAME ps3 fanboys claiming “all the360 has is shooters” is now hyping the ps3’s shooters.”
Yep, but the point is we still have other games we can hype about too, that aren’t shooters.
January 6th, 2009
I think Guerrilla have more than just improved with KZ2…
When you see the excitement from people that have played the beta then it’s hard not be enthused about its release.
People who were in the Home beta said Home was boring; Home is released, and it’s boring.
People who are in the KZ2 beta are impressed, so I expect KZ2 to be impressive when it comes out.
January 6th, 2009
forza 2, splinter cell, madden, ninja gaiden…etc, etc… all hyped on the 360,,,.all great..no shooters.
do you understand now why you ps3 fanboys are not taken seriously…?
the 360 has waaaay more than shooters, but thankfully the controller was designed with shooters in mind… so that’s good. i love shooters.
but so say the ps3 has a greater variety is dumb. what genre does the ps3 have the 360 doesn’t? seriously… name one… thanks.
January 6th, 2009
4 games, wow kev, I’m blown away. ‘etc etc’ sounded like your brain failing to think of anything worth saying.
How many exclusive racers do you have aside from Forza?
Umm, Madden isn’t an exclusive as far as I’m aware, but I’m happy for someone to tell me otherwise.
The best games associated with the 360 are pretty much all shooters. You cannot deny that PS3 is associated with a much broader range of genres.
January 6th, 2009
royzy – noone said exclusives AND
January 6th, 2009
..and since exlusives means squat (proven by the ps3 having the most and selling the least) the point is EVERY game in the 360’s need to be counted.
it’s not suprising you refused to answer my question.
January 6th, 2009
Well exclusives is what it comes down to doesn’t it… since the other games are on both consoles…
Multiplatform games + shooters = 360
Multiplatform games + a wide range of genres = PS3.
?
January 7th, 2009
Royzy,
I think you might want to double check your MetaCritic site source there before you say anything more about the PS3 have a “broader range of genres”… MC has the 360 with 212 games rated 75 or above (good) compared to PS3’s 126, and of that 86 game difference, the 360 has 17 more that are shooters, 5 more RPG’s, 6 more action adventure, 3 more racing, 5 more strategy, and 16 more action titles than the PS3.
So your equation actually looks something like this:
shooters + rpgs + action adventure + racing + strategy + action +puzzle/other = 360
/2 = PS3
♠
January 7th, 2009
Granted, what you say CarlB is very true. I only referred to Metacritic regarding the Killzone topic.
What I meant was games that are regarded as being say, system sellers, cover a broader range of genres on the PS3 than that of the 360.
I’m just trying to push my opinion as to why people would associate the 360 as being all about shooters.
January 7th, 2009
royzy – dude, give it up. there is NO genre on the ps3 not on the 360, and apparently the quality is there too, given carl’s post.
noone thinks the 360 is “all about shooters” outside the 360 haters…
January 7th, 2009
Did you mean like Fable 2 and Mass Effect?
Sorry… I know MGS4 (I have played several in the series, but never was a big fan) is presently exclusive to PS3, but what other “system sellers” exist at this time?
Maybe later this year there will be more “system sellers” (God of War III is a great example)… but I do not see that many at this time.
January 7th, 2009
CarlB, yeh like Fable 2, Mass Effect, Forza, GeOW, all note worthy exclusives (though not necessarily all “system sellers”), just like Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet, MGS4, Motorstorm, Wipeout, Heavenly Sword (actually scrap the last one).
Do you see what I was getting at now? I don’t see this going anywhere, so I will leave it be.
January 8th, 2009
Maybe you misunderstood. I was asking what do you consider to be a “system seller” on PS3 other than MGS4 that exists at this time?
January 8th, 2009
At the moment White Knight Chronicles is the third best selling PS3 game in Japan and is moving units in the process.
Existing? Uncharted, War hawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout HD, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, SOCOM, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 1 & 2, and a ton more of downloadable titles…
I would taken any of the games above over Halo.
January 8th, 2009
Oh and I forgot Little Big Planet! More will come to me as I think…
Again, the 360 may have more, but it had a year head start. I think Sony will pretty much close that gap in 2009.
Alan Wake? lol it looks alot like Alone in the Dark.
January 13th, 2009
Barnabe Jones,
You honestly thing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was a “system seller”, or that any of those others actually sold a significant amount of systems by themselves? Again, the year head start is over 3 years old and was responsible for approximately 9 titles of the some 46 top rated titles the 360 is leading by. In other words, Sony will not completely close the gap this year, and even though it may narrow it, it will still take a couple of years to close it, if ever. White Knight Chronicles? lol it looks a lot like desperate Japanese trying to find an MMO on the PS3.
January 13th, 2009
LBP: nice kiddie game novelty. Should wear off almost completely by summer except for a niche few. Take a look at those other titles and they are average, nicely rated games that are either trying to relive PS2 glory days, answer the 360’s titles, or are enjoyed by only a relative few gamers. None are “system sellers”.
