Gears of War like game comes to PSP soon
In 2008 we saw hit titles such as God of War: Chains of Olympus and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, which both sold phenomenally. It looks as though the PSP will have another great year with a brand new title that is very Gears of War-like for the handheld.
There is a small title that slipped under most people’s radar that looks very promising for the PSP. The game has gameplay mechanics like a cover system similar to that of Gears of War. The game that I am referring to is Resistance: Retribution. This title for the handheld slipped by us at E3 with very little coverage despite looking pretty good for a PSP title.

Unlike its predecessor, Retribution will not be a FPS, but a third person shooter. The game will actually juggle two different views, behind-view and over-the-shoulder view like Gears of War. The game will feature a unique combat and cover system as well.
Due to the configuration of the PSP, the developers have created a cover system that is probably better suited for the handheld. Users will be able to enter cover automatically when pressing up against a wall. When pressing fire the character will pop out to shoot and pop back under cover afterwards.
While in cover, users will be able to press a button (likely the shoulder button) to go into over the shoulder view where gamers can aim with the analog stick. While out of the over the shoulder view, the game will use a lock-on system similar to that of GTA IV.
Of course this system caters to two parties, the hardcore and the casual. The hardcore will most likely use the over-the-shoulder view for its high accuracy for headshots, while the casual gamer will use the lock-on despite potential for wasting ammo and lacking precession.

The game will also have an extensive multiplayer mode on top of the single player campaign. The game will have 8-player online multiplayer mode with some type of leveling up system like Call of Duty 4 or Resistance 2.
For those who own a PS3 and Resistance 2 will be able to sync via remote access to the PSP and play with a Dualshock 3 controller on the big screen. I have high expectations for the game since it is being developed by Sony Bend, the guys responsible for the Syphon Filter series. You can expect the game sometime this February.

also… Ive heard that if you sync the PSP resistance to R2… then your character in the PSP version get “infected” and unlocks new powers and such…
Id like a second analog stick as shooters on the PSP arent very good… still if they can pull it off… good for them

Resistance. If I was given a copy of a Resistance game, I’d defend it to the hilt.
But would I pay for a copy? With money?
Nope.

I played Resistance 2 on my brother in law’s PS3. It’s not bad at all, but wasn’t what I expected. I guess I hyped it up too much and ended up being a little underwhelmed. Still, it’s a good game.

Sounds like another Syphon Filter PSP like game comes to PSP soon. Maybe it has something to do with the fact they made Syphon Filter… and are mixing these elements with Resistance… I don’t know.

It does sound/look a lot like Syphon Filter. Those games were pretty good one you get used to the controls.
It’s too bad more third party developers don’t develop good, new, original games for the PSP. Sony has done a pretty good job of consistently supporting it, but the PSP could have been so much more.

kev… has matchmaking been fixed yet??
also… what is this matchmaking thing and why do people praise Halo 3 for it??

Horde mode is tits!
I never had a problem with matchmaking. Then again, I put my 360 in a DMZ whenever I go online, which gives me an open NAT.

dwh – one would think it would get stale, but for some reason Horde keeps me coming back.
still trying for my 50th wave on casual..but with only two players. tough going…
harry -i read there is only ONE team in the world that beat 50th on Insane. even the developers couldn’t get past wave 20 or something like that.
ps…i hate bloodmounts…

Ivan you are a complete embarrasment to this forum with your lies. Do you think anybody here believes you own Gears of War 2?
PATHETIC

Ivan – I kind of agree with you. The single player story was ok… the levels were fun, the game play was great, and the graphics were great… but the story wasn’t as good as the first and it was really short. I kind of think they dumbed down the dialogue to make it more like Gears… but the online modes are amazing.

Agreeing with Ivan is as bad as giving hitler a blowjob. You feel dirty afterwards.

whats your strategy kev… do you just camp in one place or move around the map??
I love those bulky ninja dual sword people in Gears 2… they are so cool
January 8th, 2009
dwh – we’re using the River map for now, and move around a lot or try to get control of one of the buildings at the end of the roads. on the Security map, it’s best to get control of the minigun area where the security lasers can protect you. even with that tho; still getting SPANKED by the locusts. we may have to move up to 3 players and check our egos at the door…. bah…where’s the fun in that…
