Review: Call of Duty: World at War – Xbox 360 comparison
I recently wrote a review for Call of Duty: World at War on the PS3, where I gave the game a fairly good score. The latest iteration had the daunting task of following up after Modern Warfare. I wanted to take the time to write up my impression of the Xbox 360 version and do a comparison of the two.
I zoomed through Call of Duty: World at War on the PS3 at lightning speed to catch up on the ever growing pile of games on my plate. However, I had the chance to get back to World at War by playing it on the Xbox 360 the second time around.
I tried to pay attention to the details the second time around on the Xbox 360, to see if there was a difference between the PS3 version. However, It seems that Treyarch has managed to pull off a fairly consistent experience on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Utilizing small but separate teams of developers to handle each console version seems to be the way to go.
The presentation, graphics and audio are practically the same on both versions. Both versions have similar load times, although I did notice that the PS3 version did load a little bit faster during the voice narration. The Xbox 360 version seem to have deeper colors for some of the static objects in the game.
Here are just a few comparison pictures of both versions:

In this picture it looks like the PS3 has a bit more detail in the textures and is sharper especially if you look at the soldiers arm and clothing.
In this picture it looks like the water has more luster in the Xbox 360 version than the PS3 version, but the PS3 version seems to have sharper background judging by the clarity of the small soldier standing in the back as well as the wooden planks.
Again in this picture the Xbox 360 version seems to be able to show darker colors better giving the bush a lush quality.
It seems that the Xbox 360 is a bit better at handling darker colors, and the PS3 seems to be slightly better at rendering sharper objects for World at War. There are a few differences, but for the most part both versions are practically the same. Treyarch has done an excellent job of making both versions nearly identical. Gamers will be able to experience Call of Duty: World at War in its intended form on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
Score:
4/5

sigh… teh flamez… it burnzz usss….
ok thats it Mike… I could handle Dave taking my ideas… I cant handle you taking them… I challenge you to a knife fight in COD 5…
muahahahaha
seriously?? you dont have any beta keys for Killzone 2??
:”(
I think sometimes graphics are overrated… people put so much into graphics… whereas they miss simple things like… making the game fun…
Id rather have devs come up with new gameplay and story elements than coming up with snazzier graphics…
which is why more people play Counter Strike than Crysis online… people play more of COD 4 than Far Cry 2…
you gotta focus on the games first… I hope K2 is fun online and offline… that would make it a much better reason to buy a PS3…

Rename article ‘flame war inside!’
January 11th, 2009
Seriously guys,
What is there here to flame about?
360 – “my leaf is more lush than yours”
PS3 – “my leaf is sharper than yours”
PC – “my leaf is JUST right”

Right, if doing this sort of comparison is what being a hardcore gamer is all about, I’m out. I’m getting a Wii and some friends.
January 11th, 2009
Damn Nintendo think of everything! You even get friends in the box now!?!
January 11th, 2009
Royzy,
Or, you could just refrain from debating the finer points of a leaf, and continue to enjoy your system of choice.
January 11th, 2009
“…refrain from debating…”
Yeah right Carl, like that’s gunna happen
January 11th, 2009

I think it is all those E numbers in Smarties which keep DWH buzzing.
Arvis, I think it is because the Blorge regulars have become tired of flaming, and now we are all one big huggy family.
CarlB, “…refrain from debating….” – Nahhh!!!

So little difference, it’s just the same old same old.
The truth is that the XBox is marginally better than the PS3 at a few minor things and the PS3 is marginally better at some other minor things.
Nobody has shown anything (of any honest & true substance) different so far.
January 11th, 2009
that is true happy… they are marginally different in multiplatform games… you have to count on the First Party devs or exclusive devs to push the boundaries of the system…
just gotta wait a little…
January 11th, 2009
DWH, I hope your not using my site for your own personal relieving. I’ll have you banned.
What time zone are you in DWH? You seem to be on here 24-7.

the pc version is terrible btw. No one should buy it, treyarch have no idea how to code pc games. Get CoD4 if you have to buy one.
January 12th, 2009
Well just another classic 360 third party title that looks better, nothing more. Why people will spend $ for a PS3 that does the same thing only not as good is beyond me.
January 13th, 2009
The leaves in the PS3 version are obviously sharper… a one eyed Tom Cruise could even see that.
January 13th, 2009
You’re a Tom Cruise fan, huh? That explains it.
January 13th, 2009
I guess you guys get US TV there, right?
If not, he has a new WWII movie, where he wears an eye patch… Let me tell you Carl, I laugh every time I see the commercials. I’m not sure it’s right to laugh at WWII movies, but I can’t help myself. When he looks in to the camera and kind of smiles with the eye patch on and says “We have to kill Hitler”.. it’s hilarious.
January 13th, 2009
Almost as hilarious as saying, “We have sharper leaves.”
January 13th, 2009
It was sarcasm Carl.
Sarcasm is stating the opposite of an intended meaning especially in order to sneeringly, slyly, jest or mock a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound. …
In all honesty, I think it’s ridiculous to argue over whose system makes leaves clearer. I wasn’t joking about the Tom Cruise movie though… youtube it.
January 14th, 2009
It was sarcasm Barnabe. Read the definition again.
In all honesty, it is ridiculous.
January 14th, 2009
Lol I guess you got me there Carl.
