Killzone 2 surpasses Crysis
During CES, Sony demonstrated the latest build of Killzone 2 for the PS3, which is set to ship out next month and suffice to say the game looks jaw dropping. Everything about the game was phenomenal from the details, physics, graphics, audio and gameplay. I did not think I would say this so soon, but Killzone 2 may be the first console game to surpass Crysis.
When Crysis first launched on the PC it was hailed by many to be the best looking game on any platform. It certainly was the best looking game in terms of sheer graphics, but the game still received some criticism for presentation. Killzone 2 shatters Crysis on all fronts not only wiht presentation but physics, details and graphics.
The last time I had a good look at the game was during the phase 2 beta. Even then, the game looked phenomenally better than any game developed on a home console. However, it seems like the developers spent their time wisely by improving the game by two folds. All of the minor nuisances in the game have been tweaked and improved beyond belief.
The floor of the air carrier now has vivid detail. Rico’s head is also visibly shinny with sweat and the wall textures still look excellent close up. It really is difficult to describe what an improvement the game has gone through. The best thing to do is look at the video clips coming out of CES to know what I am talking about.

Killzone 2 not only sets the bar extremely high in all aspects on the home console, but manages to look better than one of the best looking games on the PC. Guerilla Games has really outdone themselves with a game that is said by many to be genre defining. Although, you don’t have to take my word for it, just Google it to read the impressions of the game being written by other reviewers.

Hmmm , im not sure about this one, its tricky.Its hard to compare a tropical paradise ,if you will, to a dingy grey city. I do tink KZ2 looks amazing, and while i don’t think i could say KZ2 looks better than Crysis, i think they’re about par. I love some of those explosions, they look amazing. I can’t wait till february.

NO! My favorite mag of all time, EGM, is dead, killed by corporate moguls. All I have left is a final issue I got last month, and it doesn’t even have a farewell in it. Why? I was even getting digital copies through Zinio, and they had over 550,000 subscribers. They could have at least kept the digital version…
Anybody have any good ideas as a successor publication that includes all consoles?

Like I’ve said before it looks good but is still has that classis blurred backgroud that you find in PS3 Games. It’s not crisp and clear like the images you get on a 360.

I assure you the game looks phenomenal on your HD TV, highly detailed textured environments even close up. One of the benefits of hi-res textures that aren’t compressed due to disc space constraints (a la id Software’s Rage).

I am pretty disappointed that EGM and the 1up crew has been laid off. Fringe businesses such as the downhill physical gaming publications are the ones to suffer the most in economic downturn. From what I understand the mag. was barley breaking even before being sold to UGO.
There will be a farewell edition of the magazine for February on the 1Up website.
I would highly recomend GamePro as the next best multiplatform magazine. These guys have been around as long as EGM (1989). Here is the link to get you started:

well… I highly doubt that killzone 2 surpasses crysis… Im cautiously optimistic…
but you do have to look at it this way… take it in context… COD 4s graphics wasnt as good as crysis… but it was great in its own way… because it was set in modern times and modern city battlegrounds… whereas Crysis and Far cry are very nice to look at because thye are set in tropical islands… so they need to have breathtaking graphics… anything less would look like crap…
I played Halo 3 on a normal tv… didnt think that had good graphics… till I saw it in HD 1080p… again… it didnt have as good graphics as crysis… but what it did… it pulled it off…
you have to take it all in context… killzone 2 may be blurry… why dont you go into a real battlefield and tell me how it looks when bullets and grenades are flying past you…
people said gears graphics was all a shade of brown… but I think its great… their whole game is set in a universe that perfectly fits their graphics… if it tries to be anything more… it doesnt look or feel as good…

I think swearing is still ok from the looks of it DWH.
I have a feeling even if Crysis did come out on the consoles, by that time it will start to feel a little stale visually in comparison to when it came out on PC. Like the Half Life games did (though I still love Half Life more than most).
Crysis surpassed by Killzone 2? Nice thought, but I can’t see it. Can’t wait to see properly for myself though!

Not bad but I’ve seen much better high definition & more photo-realistic graphics on good PC rigs.
You always have to be careful about what they are showing and how.
When the finished game arrives and is played on the customer PS3 then we”ll see.
Adverts can be interesting but they prove nothing, yet.

okay, I just saw Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for next month… and it has Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shining Force 2, Phantasy Star II and IV (won’t mention the unmentionable there), Golden Axe I-III, ComixZone, Alex Kidd, Beyond Oasis, Shinobi… which means it will most likely have achievements for said games as well… alrighty then… back to PSP and DS… and maybe I won’t need a Wii after all.

as I said before… take it all into context… just because Halo has really colorful environments with the bloom meter turned to the max… doesnt mean they all look like that…

I have to say harry, his “best looking game on any platform” strikes me as pure fanboy BS.
I have seen far better on PC (and this was a good 12mths back) than the high def feed shows here.
There’s no way a PS3 with small memory and an Nvidia 7800gs (even backed up with a cell CPU) is going to outperform a Quad core CPU, 2gbs+ of faster RAM & an Nvidia 8800 or ATi 3800 series on, set-up.

Something about the invasion trailer has caught my attention. I have watched the HD and SD trailers on two different browsers just to make sure it’s not a browser issue, and about 15 seconds into it there seems to be a gun that appears, disappears, appears, disappears and so on.

DWH – GameStop is good for a few things…
-Buying used games is easier and a lot of the times cheaper than buying online.
-GameStop is also good for there exclusive preorders. A lot of the times, I’ll preorder if it means getting bonus content, betas, or demos.
Otherwise, I will never try to sell back games and let them rape me. They will give you a few dollars for a newer used game, and then turn around and sell it for 10xs that. Most new games, that do not have any sort of preorder bonus – I’ll get from BestBuy (Rewards Points), Or FYI (10% off backstage pass).
