F.E.A.R. 2 on PS3 is very satisfying
As I mentioned earlier, Qore managed to exclusively get the F.E.A.R. 2 demo a bit earlier for its annual subscribers than Xbox Live and PSN. I had the chance to play the demo yesterday after downloading it off Qore and the game seems to be surprisingly satisfying.
I actually own review copies for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the first F.E.A.R. game and I was a bit disappointed with the game. There were even some performance issues on both versions, with the PS3 version being noticeably worse off.
However, in F.E.A.R. 2, Monolith Productions managed to improve upon all of the criticisms I had with the original game. I can’t recall the last time I played a fully released game where shooting someone has been as satisfying. The sound effects and physics used when your bullet makes an impact to the enemies are quite pleasant.
At one part of the game I found it humorous the way the bodies became nailed to the wall from one of the weapons in the game. The presentation is also quite good, in a sort of Call of Duty 4 nuclear blast moment kind of way. I also enjoyed the new cover mechanic where any table can be turned over to be used as a shield.
In the original game I thought it was a bit unfair that the enemy AI could knock over tables and use them as cover but you couldn’t. The new cover mechanic does have its disadvantages because not all objects will fully shield you from the enemy, but it is better than nothing.
I am glad Monolith Productions, decided to stick with the old health system instead of the regenerative health indicated earlier. Horror games do not work well with regenerating health. Overall the game looks like it could be as good as Dead Space quality wise. Keep an eye out for a review on F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin.

And this is why FERRO cannot be taken seriously. He titles the article implying that he has only played the PS3 version (or he’s played both versions and the PS3 is better), and then later mentions that he’s played both versions and the PS3 version is the poorer one performance wise.
It must be really bad if someone like Ferro mentions that it’s noticeably worse off.

the first FEAR was a clusterfuck… the console ports were terrible… ports on BOTH consoles were terrible..the original devs said so themselves…
anyways… you can tell by the title and from experience that he has played the PS3 version… so why -being a 360 owner and “defender”- did you bother to read it??

dwh, I read it because I was interesed in Fear 2 as a game. The 360 version of the original wasn’t bad at all, the PS3 version on the other hand was downright awful.
And I don’t think I am reading too much into. He stated in the article that he has played both versions, so why do you think his reasoning would be to have a misleading title such as this one?

I own both versions of FEAR 1, the article is about FEAR 2 and the demo is only available on PS3 right now through Qore exclusively.

I guess I’m too much of a casual to care about trophies. I think I have one or two, just never cared enough to look.
Next weekend we should set up a time for some WaW action. It might be tough with the time difference. But it would be kind of fun to watch DWH get destroyed and listen to him bitch about it.

Damn! I thought you were beating me… I’m working on the trophies Grand Theft Auto 4 now, so it’s pretty slow going. You really need to do a lot of work for most of the bronze trophies, never mind the silver or gold.

I do reckon we should all have a good Killzone 2 session together, hopefully it is easy to matchmake with friends. COD4 was rubbish for arranging games with friends.
I might just send Ivan messages with p*rn attachments. That is what someone kept doing to me.
Have now got Gold on all campaign cells in Wipeout. And what to I get? Just a silver trophy. Wipeout is really tight with its trophies.
