Top 6 trash talking moments from Xbox 360 boss

January 21, 2009

Top 6 trash talking moments from Xbox 360 boss The bosses for each of the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been bickering recently. However, in the grand scope of things, the two console bosses are really fighting over an ant hill. We have enjoyed the many exploits of Aaron Greenberg over the year and have decided to relive those moments.

It really is quite refreshing to see some mud-slinging back and forth after Sony’s deadening silence. It does sort of show that Sony execs really do have a backbone and know how to give a hard jab. This must be part of their New Years resolution to not get bullied around by Microsoft’s constant belittlement.

image The ever so friendly Aaron Greenberg has always been the first one to fling mud to Sony’s dead silence. Usually Greenberg takes a jab especially at the PS3 almost every opportunity he gets while he is in the lime light. This is in contrast to Jack Tretton and Kaz Hirai, who usually remains silent.

We can actually chronicle all the endearing memorable comments Greenberg has made over the year.

Such as the time he….

1.said Nintendo owners will “graduate” to the Xbox 360 because the Wii is like a karaoke machine.

2.compared Blu-ray to UMD despite the fact UMD is not a commercial media format but a proprietary PSP only format, similar to the Nintendo DS cartridges.

3.belittled Blu-ray, stating “It’s pretty clear it is not the next DVD, right?” despite the fact it has sold more than twice the amount DVDs sold during same time in its life.

greenbergholding

4.dismisses PS3 Home as 2005 tech in 2008 and promptly changes the clothes on his Mii-like avatar in his static home background on his Xbox 360. The PS3 Home then goes on to makes its first million.

5.belittled the PS3 for its flat sales during September. Even though the Xbox 360 experienced “flat sales” when the PS3 more than doubled the 360 sales in July after Metal Gear Solid 4 came out.

6.acted confused publicly as to why Sony won’t drop the price of the PS3 given the loss on manufacturing costs. Peter Moore then jumped out of the shadows to remind him that Microsoft discontinued the original Xbox because the hard drives were killing them on manufacturing costs.

image

Bonus *7.criticized Sony of breaking promises by delaying PS3 Home, because it is almost always better to release things on time even if they are not ready. Speaking of promises – when is Live Anywhere coming out?

As you can clearly see, Aaron Greenberg is probably one of the most entertaining figures in the industry. However, since Sony execs have changed their strategy by getting dirty with Microsoft it gives us even more opportunity to chronicle the coming epic battles we can only dream about this year.

We have already started chronicling the “darndest things” said by Sony execs. Keep a sharp eye out for a list of trash talking moments from the Playstation bosses.

I seriously LOATHE that picture… he looks like a smartass… not at all flattering…

is this going to be a daily thing?? one post bout a Sony exec mouthing off.. then another post about a MS exec mouthing off…

  2. Mike Ferro:

    @DWH,

lol, no no… in light of all the hoopla over these two bickering lately, I thought it would be interesting to poke-fun (roast) our industry leaders.

Not a daily thing, but hopefully we can get enough trash talk from the Kaz-man to do another one of these later on in the year for Sony.

    ahh… back to vault 101.

  3. darkwhitehair:

ahh playing Fallout 3 are we??

can we expect a review??? are you playing on the PS3?? is it worth it on the PS3 even thought the 360 has exclusive content??

cus I was waiting for the 360 version

  4. darkwhitehair:

also nice to see you guys coming down from your ivory towers to talk to us lowly peasants…

can I interest you in a match of COD WaW or SF2 OMGWTFROFL turbo HD remix???

  5. Bourne:

I do sincerely hate Aaron Greenburg, he’s sucha douche. I accept companies always trash talk each other, but the only time i hear Aaron Greenburg in the news is to say that the PS3 is failing this and the 360 is superior in every way. It seems all he does at Microsoft is sit at a table, monitor Sony and then make a report on 101 things they’re doing wrong. He’s a worthless waste of space.

  6. CAD:

    Mike Ferro

I’m utterly convinced that DWH is your biggest fan too. There isn’t a moment of the day that this dude is not here. Do you sleep dude? I think you need rehab and reintroduce you back into society. What’s even more funny is he rather talk about games then actually play them. Then DHW goes on about how he has not finished any of his games and I wonder why!!!!

Anyways Greenberg I love that guy. He always gots something to say that’s going to be entertaining. Really PS3 Fan Boyz should praise him because it’s probably all those jabs he takes at Sony that actually leads to any innovation that shows up on your PS3. Because really the PS3 has pretty much copied everything that the 360/Wii has done and it’s so obvious that Sony has no innovation. All Sony is good for is buying studios that really produce mearly garbage if anything at all.

  7. phranctoast:

He hasn’t been the xbox boss long enough for his “jabs” to contribute to shit.

“All Sony is good for is buying studios that really produce mearly garbage if anything at all.”

    LMAO!!!!!!!
    Polyphony-GT franchise
    Team ICO- ICO and SOTC
    Incognito-Twisted Metal series, Warhawk
Naughty Dog-Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted
    Zipper- SOCOM
    Santa Monica- GOW franchise
    Guerilla-Killzone
    Psygnosis- Wipeout Series.

  8. JofaMang:

    @DWH

I think it is safe to assume (unless it has been officially verified) that like oblivion’s exclusive 360 DLC, Bethesda will release an expansion by next christmas in hard copy form for Fallout 3. It will probably include all 3 “expansions” that are coming for the 360 in one package, like how Knights of the Nine was included in the shivering isles expansion for the ps3.

If not, I might have to buy a 360. Depending on the depth of the DLC, of course. I already got the platinum trophy, so I would need some pretty heady content to pick up a Jasper chipped 360, but at the least the reliability hasn’t been questionable on those, yet.

  9. Barnabe Jones:

In comparison… Mr. Greenburg has proved that he is beyond the shadow of a doubt the bigger douche bag. In comparison all Kaz said is that the 360 will not last 10 years, which is a pretty good guess. Mr. Greenburg on the other hand, makes him self look extremely petty and childish. It’s nice the way how the article refutes each claim he made. Just another shinning example of M$’s corporate spin. I can’t believe people buy in to this nonsense.

  10. Wylie77:

    Barnabe,

Read Cad’s post and you will see how far people will believe the nonsense! It truly is amazing.

  11. Barnabe Jones:

I loved your “CAD Greenburg”! That made me laugh.

  12. kev:

wow…i had no idea the writers were so young. they’re too young to remember the mud slinging hirai, harrison, kuturagi did when the xbox launched or when live launched. this is simple payback, yet ms is wrong somehow…

congrats, author. you’ve amazed me once again….

  13. kev:

mike – dvd players vastly outpaced bluray players at the same time in its lifecycle. that’s the measure not the movies itself as the ones given away for free with the ps3 was counted as “sales”.

  14. Wylie77:

    Kev,

If you actually read the article it clearly states

“It’s pretty clear it is not the next DVD, right?”

That would mean Greenburg was talking about DVD vs Blu Ray disks, not players, but please keep spinning.

  15. phranctoast:

Even if it was players…. The ps2 ands the xbox would contribute to sales for dvd then.

  16. Barnabe Jones:

    Kev,

Please also tell Mike about how KillZone 2 sucks.

  17. SW:

Have we got to Forza’s 3 trillion physics calculations vs GT’s 10 yet?

Too early in the thread me thinks.

  18. darkwhitehair:

    hahahah nice SW…

also CAD… Ill explain this to your little tiny 3rd grader head once… no more… because it takes too long to write…

The Reason I havent finished MGS 4 is because I mostly play in the day…. and the glare coming off the daylight makes it hard to see everything on MGS 4… its better to play it at night when theres no glare… my TV is bottom of the line piece of shit… I got two guys in Assassins Creed and restarted because I wanted to take in all the dialogues…

and I havent even touched Heavenly Sword after taking off the shrink wrap… Socom was fun when I bought it… but COD 5 is easier to play… so yeah… even with all these great Single Player games… I whore myself to multiplayer games like Street Fighter 2 turbo and Fifa 09 and COD 5…

I hope that helped… I hope this site would cover better news than execs throwing shit at eachother… but I come here day after day to look at you and kev… and remind myself that Humans evolved out of monkeys…

Jofamang I dont want to buy Oblivion for the PS3 because if I have to spend 200 hours in a game… I better get some fucking acheivements for it… it was nice to see that they released all the DLC for the PS3 as well…

  19. kev:

wylie – w/o the players being bought it’s pointless to brag about disks… are you that blinded by sony fanboyism to see reality? gawd..

  20. kev:

wylie – in case it’s not clear, greenburg was talking about the adoptoni of dvd vs. bluray..

    bluray is CLEARLY no dvd….

sw – since you asked, it’s funny that GT claims to be the “real driving simulator” then gets pounded by Forza’s simulation with the math to back it up….

phanc – everytime i read one of your posts, i’m convinced your not done evolving yet….

  21. darkwhitehair:

AGAIN!!! AGAIN THE GT vs Forza… jesus christ…

I bet he keeps all of this on CTRL C and then CTRL V whenever there is a discussion about ANYTHING!!!

hey did you see the new Dark Knight movie??
OH YOU NOOB YOU DONT KNOW THAT FORZA IS THE BEST DRIVING SIMULATOR!! EVER!!!

  22. SW:

lol kev. Yes, Kev made a funny. I hope.

  23. Wylie77:

    Kev,

alright, I’ll play your game. In that case don’t ever, and I mean EVER talk about attach ratio’s again you dumb ass. It’s all about hardware sales, stop bringing up attach rate then. It doesn’t matter how many games the 360 moves does it.

Movies are where the money is, same as games. If they sell a blu ray player for $300, but that person spends $900 dollars on movies, you tell me where the real money is you troll!

  24. Wylie77:

Oh I forgot GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDD your annoying!

  25. harry sachz:

I wonder if FERRO is going to post an article on the stupid things that Kenny said before he was pushed? My favourite was when he was questioned about the price of the PS3 and that some people may not afford it and his answer was ‘They should get better jobs’ hahaha what an idiot.

  26. SW:

    /me petitions for a ken’s quotes article.

Me thinks a Ken article would be better this article!

  27. harry sachz:

Ken had some clangers, not as good as the Iraqi Information Minister, but pretty good nonetheless.

  28. kev:

WYLIE – sorry you’re confused. movies and games don’t use the same business model.

the abysmally low attach ratio of the ps3’s games to console just negated your entire post.

$900 on movies? gawd…you guy’s will try anything (even fantasy) to try to prove a point.

  29. kev:

i forgot; gawwwd you’re clueless to how business works.

  30. Wylie77:

Sorry Kev, I don’t believe I’m the one confused, except the part where you bring up PS3 attach ratio. Although they don’t follow the exact business model, they are similar. Please tell me how movie sales work then. Please explain how blu ray players will add up to more profit then the actual disks themselves.

$900 on movies is not that much for someone who likes movies. At $30 a movie, that’s only 30 movies over the course of blu rays life span. I have had my PS3 for about a year and a half and I have 12 blu ray movies.

I also own about 70 to 80 DVD movies which at $15-$20 a piece adds up to over $1200. Not fantasy, actuality! Yet, I’ve only spent a total of about $300 on actual DVD players. There are plenty of people who spend way more on movies than me. But please go on and spin me a tale of how the players are how we judge the market and how $900 on movies is fantasy!

  31. harry sachz:

People still buy dvds? I thought we all just hired them, put them in our computers, run dvdshrink through them, burn them and then return them? Not that I do that or anything…

  32. kev:

wylie – gawd, please go read..

consoles follow the razor to razorblade model while movie players typically don’t.

the majority of bluray players on the market are sold at a profit from the POS. (if i lost you on the POS term, skip it and ignore the rest, it’s over your head). then again, movie players don’t have the needless bells and whistles of the ps3.

you act like sony sees significant money off of bluray. you forget, there are over 200 companies with their hands in the jar. (a fact that sony liked to tout as proof of bluray’s acceptance over hd dvd).

finally, to add more salt to the wound, bluray movies see pennies on t he dollar of profits compared to the huge profit margins on games. then again, games sell for over twice the price of bluray movies. so, while the games remain the same, dvd (which costs a fradtion to author on vs. bluray) see waaaay higher profit margins than movies/games on bluray. hey, blame sony. they’re the ones who claimed the world wanted bluray…

someone just forgot to tell the world.

now, run along and play. if you want to learn more, get a scholarship and go learn.

  33. kev:

wylie – it’s funny you have more bluray movies than games. oh well, maybe if sony designed a better gaming console, you’d want more games, like wii and 360 owners, which buy a lot of games per unit, leading to more money making. too bad sony didn’t take their lead.

congrats on bluray tho… a movie format that’s already got one foot in the grave only 2 years after hitting the market.

  34. kev:

I also own about 70 to 80 DVD movies which at $15-$20 a piece adds up to over $1200. Not fantasy, actuality! Yet, I’ve only spent a total of about $300 on actual DVD players. There are plenty of people who spend way more on movies than me.”

you are as out of touch with reality as sony is if you think this is the norm for consumers. it’s really not. blockbuster rentals sees to that.
don’t use yourself as a benchmark. i’ve seen nothing status quo about you so far.

  35. Wylie77:

    Kev,

Wow, what a post, too bad I new all of that info already. Also too bad you have missed the point. No one compared profit margins between games and movies.

Also, you know nothing about me, so don’t pretend that you do. I never said that everyone would buy 70 to 80 movies. I just stated that I have. I don’t think however that 30 movies is unreasonable. If you have kids (I hope you don’t) you would see your movie library grow quite fast. Thank you for the spin, you never fail to disappoint in that regard!

  36. darkwhitehair:

wait wait… are you guys acting out parts of Nepolian Dynamite?? wait I want in too..

    GAWD!!! … GAWD!!!… GAWD!!!

I remember buying something called DVDs 6-8 months ago… except they cost less than a dollar and had good quality pictures… now I just torrent them…

    yeah BITCH!!!

but I also go to the theater to watch good films like Dark knight and seven pounds… boy Hancock was not worth the $5 I paid…

ohh what were we talking about ???

  37. CarlB:

Something about that guy who likes to use all caps, triple his punctuation marks, use exclamation points, and hurl epithets which directly reflect the way he acts… I think he goes by darkwhitehair.

  38. superman559cali:

first of all look at this guy……..http://gamer.blorge.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/greenbergholding1.jpg

Looks like a fucking fat-ass. Lose weight fatty…Lol

    1. In time the wii owners will get smart and buy a PS3 they will not buy a piece of crap that dies on them 30+% of the time.

    2. It is all about blu-ray. Everybody knows that UMD’s are not going to stay on the PSP. They were just a “start-up” format.

    3. Like I said, it is all about blu-ray.

    4. Sony stretched home launch because they needed to get it right the first time. Unlike stupid people at Microsoft that go by a specific date.

    5. The reason the PS3 has lower sales is because of the price. The price is because the PS3 comes with everything, and because they are waiting until the holiday season to release the 45nm version.

    6. His fat-ass is always confused.

7.…”Criticized Sony of breaking promises by delaying PS3 Home, because it is almost always better to release things on time even if they are not ready”. Lol Go back to 4. It is never better to release a piece of shit like the 360 before it is ready. There you have it Aaron Greenberg just Owned himself.
