Age of Conan to defend Xbox 360 from PS3 MMO-fest
Everyone has been talking about the MMOs coming to the PS3 in 2009. However, the MMOs coming to the Xbox 360 have been getting zero hype. There definitely are a couple games slated to hit the system in 2009. One of them is Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Despite the rumors of its demise, this game is still in development.
Sony has been hyping the company’s MMO lineup recently with 2009 in full swing. Some of the titles that have been shown are: The Agency, DC Universe and Free Realms. Personally I am fairly excited about DC Universe because the game is directed by the famed DC Comics artist, Jim Lee.
The Xbox 360 has two notable exclusive MMOs coming in 2009, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (AoC) and Champions Online. Although, Champions Online has a big question mark next to it due to the recent acquisition of Cryptic Studios by Atari in December. The studio has another title, Star Trek Online for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Age of Conan came out on the PC back in May of 2008. Funcom has been working on porting the game to the Xbox 360 for sometime now. At one point everyone declared that this game was vaporware with very little revealed about the port. Things started going downhill when the subscription base plummeted and half the servers were put out of misery. Then came the tragic news that the company laid off 70 percent of its US based development staff.
However, game director Craig Morrison reiterated in a recent interview that AoC is indeed still in development. The company has a small group of employees working on porting the game over. The game is adult orientated so prepare to see plenty of nudity.
It will be interesting to see if Funcom will carry over the $30 per two month or $15 per month subscription plans over to the Xbox 360. I am hoping that Microsoft will compete with MMOs on the PS3 by making the subscription free. Isn’t it enough that we buy the game for $60?

I wouldve bought age of conan if it didnt need a monster of a PC to run… high PC specs piss people off…
anyways… I saw lil bit of the Agency… in a trailer preview sorta way… it does not look that tempting… DC universe will be a first day buy for me… but Agency is UNDER NOTICE!!!
but you do have to look at the facts… other than Everquest… Sony hasnt had a decent MMO… for a LOOOONG time… Star Wars Galaxies was sony… yeah I didnt know that either… Pirates of the burning sea… Sony…
they better have low PC specs… that way I can get others to play with me…
check out all the DC online previews on GT… it looks un fucking believeable… so great…

The only MMO I’ve ever played was Final Fantasy XI on PC. It was a lot of fun, but I need a game to end at some point. I don’t like the idea that the game goes on forever.

I’m a major DC (Superman) fan so I will be getting into it. Any idea when it is supposed to be out?

Ncaissie – Supposedly sometime in late 2009.
I like Sony’s strategy of not having a monthly subscription fee. That was always one of the main things holding me back from playing other MMOs in the past. I can’t justify paying $60 for the game, then paying a monthly subscription fee of $15.00

I could definitely buy into an MMO that doesn’t have a monthly fee. That would be sweet.
