Resistance 3: Modern Warfare in the works?
Resistance 2 is one of my favorite games of 2008 with its stellar online multiplayer mode. The game was highly anticipated and went on to sell over a million copies. There is a new rumor doing the rounds that Resistance 3 may follow in the footsteps of Call of Duty and do a re-imaging of the game to a more modern warfare setting.
It is often difficult to find sales data regarding the privately owned Insomniac Games. The studio has been rated as one of the top 10 Best Small Companies to work for in America for three years in a row and has several proven franchises such as Ratchet & Clank, Spyro and Resistance.
The estimated shipment amount for Resistance 2, based on previous life-time sales, is around 3 million units shipped worldwide. However, without solid figures it is probably safe to say the sell through amount to-date lies somewhere between 1.5 and 2 million units.

The game went on to sell over a million copies but did not sell as well as other shooters such as Gears of War 2. The game was also rated highly by many of the veteran game critics such as: IGN (9.5), GameSpot (9.0), X-Play (5/5), and GameTrailers (9.1). However, despite being an excellent game some have started to question if Resistance is loosing its appeal?
There is word that some of the ideas that have been thrown around regarding the next installment of Resistance involve shifting the timeline to the present or near future. Instead of continuing the game in the alternate World War II timeframe, the game would move forward to modern times to blend weapons of today with the alien invasion.
Call of Duty is one notable series that came to the FPS forefront with its shift to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. There is a strong indication that gamers have started to tire the World War II era and theme altogether. The big question on my mind is will we finally get to have an all out war with the pre-generative species to the Chimera virus?
It is difficult to say when Insomniac Games will announce plans for the next installment to the series as the company remains mostly elusive. Although, Insomniac fans can be almost 90 percent sure that a new Ratchet & Clank game will be released by the end of this year to hold you over till the next Resistance installment.

“However, despite being an excellent game some have started to question if Resistance is loosing its appeal?”
I wasn’t aware that Resistance ever had appeal.
I don’t get Resistance games at all; they’re too formulaic and, well, brown. I got the first one with my PS3, and it was alright, but hardly brilliant.
I know it’ll probably never happen, but if Sony could force Guerrilla or Naughty Dog to license out modified KZ2/Uncharted 1 or 2 engines to Insomniac then Resistance could really benefit.
It’s not the setting that is the problem in Resistance; it’s the engine; it just feels way too old.

I would’nt say its losing its appeal, its just that insomniac shot themselves in the foot when they made R2 because they bled off lots of the features that made R:FOM great (although i accept many people think R2 is better).
I think the lack of a narrator was negative, and also the complexity of MP was crap. I’ve been playing for a few months and i still can’t work out the menu system. Also i think that the setting of America is overused and the setting of the UK was brilliant. I still haven’t got into the MP in R2…But the main thing about the resistance franchise is a great story, and great enemy. (I’m not saying its original)
Anyways a resistance 3 in modern times would be great as long as they don’t screw it up like R2.

I hope Resistance stays the way it is perfect.

I doubt they are working on it… I heard they are still trying to fix the various bugs and glitches and come up with DLC…

Ivan_PSP,
I know this is off topic, but by your name I am thinking you could give me some tips for your favorites on the PSP, which is my main system right now out here… any suggestions (I am playing FFTWoL right now, and thoroughly enjoyed JDA)?

Kz2 reviews are out. IGN gave it a 9.4.
That’s decent enough.

I take it you’ve got GOW: Chains of Olympus?
February 1st, 2009
oh yes… but it was rather short (still good, just short).

In case Ivan doesn’t mention them, definitely check out LocoRoco 1 & 2.
Unique, but great.

fuck you bourne… I told you to keep that a secret… now you got me wondering about what I would do if I was a space Nazi… probably eat some space pancakes and make all the space Indians do all the work…

lock_down,

Carl B – FF VII: Crisis Core, Ratchet and Clank, and Patapon.
I agree with most of what Bourne said. The narrative of the first game is what helped make the story interesting. The sequel featured space marines yelling short phrases at each other. Also the character Nathan Hale – lost a lot of what helped make him interesting in the first game. My main gripe with R2 was the story, the game play, and online portions were great.

Thanks Barnabe, FFVIICC was good (I even beat Minerva), but I still enjoy FFTWoL more (I don’t know how that is exactly, but it is).
I haven’t tried Ratchet and Clank yet… I did enjoy Daxter the year before last though. Patapon… is it wrong to group that with Loco Roco or are they totally different?
February 2nd, 2009
Patapon is a cute music game… but surprisingly deep. You build and equip units and set up your battle formation. The game gets pretty difficult, but the controls are based off of rhythm. I actually ended up getting stuck about half way though.
Crisis Core was good, but I did too many of the side missions and leveled up too much early on… I sort of coasted through the rest of the game with out to much thought or effort.
Hmm… What about Jeanne D’Arc? I haven’t played it, but it’s on the list.

JDA is like FFTWoL with better graphics and more colorful characters/story/anime… a good strategy title (though not as deep a system as FFTWoL) that will last quite a while, though maybe not as long as FFTWoL if you want to do all of it’s extras.

Has anybody played Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness?
February 2nd, 2009
To the original story..
I don’t see any need to R3 to be taken in modern times. The weapons you use in R2 are more modern than weapons we have now.
February 3rd, 2009
That’s actually a really good point. What would change if game were brought into modern times? The cars in the backround?
January 10th, 2010
well no it would change all the charicters unless they pop in as a geezer weapons, settings, the radio music, the chimera would look diffrent probly, the chimera weapons would change, the tacticts in the game used to fight the chimera would also change and ya
