Video gaming is now officially bigger than watching home movies… kind of. In terms of hard money at least, the games industry brings in more than the home movies industry does, even with the twin threats of DVD and Blu-ray. And what’s helping this trend? The global recession.

The Nintendo Wii may be hugely successful in terms of sales, but it cannot compete with either the PS3 or Xbox 360 in any other department. In fact, it’s almost last gen in its capabilities. Developers are now starting to eschew creating games for the Wii because of this lack of processing power.

Everyone has been talking about the MMOs coming to the PS3 in 2009. However, the MMOs coming to the Xbox 360 have been getting zero hype. There definitely are a couple games slated to hit the system in 2009. One of them is Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Despite the rumors of its demise, this game is still in development.

The method for inputting text on the PS3 is clunky at best, requiring multiple button presses and the concentration of a nuclear physicist to manage one word. Luckily, Sony has seen fit to release a Wireless Keypad in order to make the whole process much easier. Having used the keypad for the last few days, here are my thoughts on it.

Fallout 3 is considered by many to be one of the greatest games to come out of 2008. Bethesda Software has announced that there will be Xbox 360 and PC exclusive DLC for Fallout 3, leaving the PS3 version out in the cold. However, recent comments made by a Bethesda Software rep. may hint at a potential PS3 bound DLC.

Sony may have you believing that the company cut out PS2 backwards compatibility in order to save costs, but the real reason is actually more strategic than anything else. All PS3s will most likely be able to play PS2 games in the near future.

We talked yesterday about whether Killzone 2 was likely to be a system-seller for the PS3 or not. Sony clearly needs one game to rule them all in order to shift some units to the mainstream and I doubt it’ll be the FPS sequel. But Gran Turismo 5 could fill that gap, if and when it finally arrives. Seriously, why such a long wait?

We’ve already explored whether Killzone 2 can possibly live up to the inordinate amount of hype attached to it, but now comes the bigger question: Will Killzone 2 be a true system-seller for the PS3? The Wii has Wii Sports, the Xbox has Halo, and the PS3 has what?

Microsoft recently announced that the company would be laying-off 5,000 employees due to a drop in profits. This is the first mass layoff in the history of Microsoft. However, news has trickled out that the Xbox division will be suffering the brunt of the job cuts.

The Nintendo Wii has succeeded as a console by giving people a new way of playing games. No game demonstrates this better than Wii Sports, the biggest-selling game of all time. But it’s not only used for exercise and honing your tennis skills. There is also another use – sexual gratification.
