The PS3 had an excellent game lineup last year, arguably the best on any console in 2008. However, one of the mistakes Sony made was failing to properly market the PS3. It seems that with 2009, Sony is planning on changing all of that with an aggressive marketing campaign.

Now, more than ever, gaming is for all. Once the domain of the super-geek, it’s a hobby now enjoyed by everyone from young kids to old-age pensioners. But the news that VTech is launching a console aimed at kids fills me with bewilderment. Not only is it a Wii clone, it’s also missing the point that kids are already playing games. Kazuo Hirai, normally such a mild-mannered, well-spoken gentleman seemed to turn into Perez Hilton recently when he made some dubious claims in a magazine interview. After suggesting Sony was still leading the industry, the Wii wasn’t a competitor, and Xbox 360 suffered from a lack of longevity, the snark was always likely to be delivered back to him with both barrels.

The bosses for each of the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been bickering recently. However, in the grand scope of things, the two console bosses are really fighting over an ant hill. We have enjoyed the many exploits of Aaron Greenberg over the year and have decided to relive those moments.

It’s kind of funny when games industry people bad-mouth each other, especially when it’s the normally austere people who lower themselves to it. The latest to do this is Kazuo Hirai (pictured) who is boss of the whole Sony games division. He claims that the PS3 is still the industry leader, that the Xbox 360 lacks longevity, and that the Wii isn’t even competition.

One of the hot topic issues many gamers have been rabid about is how well their console of choice is doing. Although most multiplatform gamers who own all of the systems really don’t care as much about who is beating who. In the future, most gamers will most likely not care about the console war as more gamers become multiplatform owners.

Even though I’m a gamer, I find it strange how we’re all so quick to want to mimic real-life activities on a games console rather than actually doing them. Is video gaming, and particularly the Wii, discouraging us all from actually getting out there and participating? And if so, is that slightly bizarre and sad?

As I mentioned earlier, Qore managed to exclusively get the F.E.A.R. 2 demo a bit earlier for its annual subscribers than Xbox Live and PSN. I had the chance to play the demo yesterday after downloading it off Qore and the game seems to be surprisingly satisfying.

There is an endless stream of new games released on the various systems every month, far too many for anyone to buy all of them. Which means we all have to pick and choose our purchases, especially around Christmas. But what are your main reasons for buying one game over another?
