Is Ready 2 Rumble the next Punch-Out?
Many games have tried to replicate the success of Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! on Nintendo, but have failed to capture the essence of the classic game. Ready 2 Rumble was considered to be a game that came very close to the classic. With the latest version of Ready 2 Rumble on the horizon, the big question was could the game could breath new life into the old genre?
The original Ready 2 Rumble came out on the Sega Saturn in 1999, then on the PSOne later. The game was acclaimed for its memorable characters, similarly to how Punch-Out!! was. The game had many memorable characters such as Butcher Brown and Afro Thunder. Each character had their own distinct quirks that made it fun to play against them.
With the announcement that Ready 2 Rumble Revolution would be making a comeback on the Wii in March, many old-school gamers have become nostalgic for the good old days. Recent games such as FaceBreaker, have tried to revive the old school boxing genre with little success.
Unfortunately, many of the characters from the original won’t be making it back, such as Afro Thunder. However, there are a plethora of other characters that are just as comparable.

The game retains many of the elements from the previous version. You can build up your character’s skills through the various mini-games through training. The game will also make use of the Wii motion controls to pummel your opponents. Ready 2 Rumble Revolution looks like it could be a serious contender to the latest version of Punch-Out!! which is set to hit this year as well. Until then, make sure to keep an eye out for a review of the game.

Face Breaker was shit. Hopefully this won’t be as atrocious.
The new PunchOut has potential, but of coarse it all hinges on the games control scheme. After playing the boxing section on Wii Fit (which was surprisingly good), I think Nintendo could pull it off.

Boxing on wii sports sucks though.
I loved the original Punchout.
When will these developers start making new innovative games instead of trying to remake the oldies.
They were good for their time but don’t work in today’s market.
If I wanted to relive the old days I would use an emulator and replay the original.

I don’t think anything will ever qualify as “the new Punch Out.” That game was too good.

I must be in bazaaro world. I said something positive about the Wii and Ncaisie refuted it. I think that PS3 is getting to you lol.

I just think the boxing was not responsive enough in the boxing part of wii sports.

Oh… I was talking about Wii Fit. I think it’s a little better than the boxing in Wii Sports.

“bazaaro world”… Barnabe said something positive about the Wii.

Yes. I said something positive about the Wii and Ncaissie (previously a strong Wii advocate) disagreed with me.
Carl, you have a DS, right? Do you have the New Super Mario Brothers game? It’s like a fantastic orgy of SM 1, SM 3, SM World, & a new game. I’m amazed. Once I have this completed… I’m getting Partners in Time.

I do have both, but I haven’t invested too much time in it or the game… I played the DS more the year before last while on ship pumping out here and back… Age of Empires took up a bit of time and was enjoyable. Overall though I find myself playing the PSP much more.

I think my PSP will get some more time once the new Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia games get released. I’m flying through Mario pretty quickly, but FF IV will keep me busy for a while. I’m stuck on a boss and the moment and need to level up some more.

Like FFWoL for me… I can’t just go through with a minimum level character… this going to last a while.
