Zero Punctuation reviews ‘Skate 2′ on PS3 and Xbox 360
Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw is back again with another Zero Punctuation review. This week he tackles Skate 2, which was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in January, 2009. We see him struggle with the learning curve and complexity of the game – he clearly isn’t a skater in real life.
Skate 2 is a game for skaters, or more precisely, skating purists, as was its prequel, Skate. The controls are complex and hard to master, but if persisted with can offer some top class thrills. If you lose patience, however, you’re likely to experience more spills. And then give up and go to play something slightly more accessible.
Like Croshaw, I’m not a skater, never have been, and at my age likely never will be. And like Croshaw, I found myself leaving the game alone after a while to go back to Rock Band. Call it old age, call it a short attention span, or whatever you damn well like but this game is just too hard for casuals.
