Gears of War 2 snubbed at DICE AIAS awards

February 24, 2009

Gears of War 2 snubbed at DICE AIAS awards One of the longest standing award ceremonies in the video game industry took place recently at DICE. The summit is held in recognition of developers and major contributors in the industry. It seems that the award show was dominated by Sony Playstation titles with 10 awards and showed very little love towards Microsoft exclusive titles.

The game that really swept in many of the categories was LittleBigPlanet. It won an award in eight categories during the show. The game definitely deserved all the awards that it has been given over the year for its originality and innovation. Other notable Playstation exclusive games were: God of War: Chains of Olympus and Metal Gear Solid 4. Was anyone surprised?

Although, don’t count Microsoft exclusive games out as it took two awards home. Notable games such as Left4Dead and Braid took home an award. I gave Braid two thumbs up, scoring an A- in my review.  However, I couldn’t help notice that Gears of War 2 took zero awards home.

It seems like that there was a category missing for shooters during the award show. I suppose that the prestigious Interactive Achievement Awards couldn’t be marred by immature juvenile categories. I guess that’s why the ultra violent Left4Dead was awarded.

I have proclaimed Gears of War 2 to be the best third person shooter of the year many times over. The game definitely beats other TPS by miles as the best in its category. However, it seems that the game hasn’t been getting as much attention as it truly deserves. It is definitely not getting the type of attention the first Gears of War game received back in 2006.

Admittedly, originality is thrown out the door by default due to it being a sequel. However, Gears 2 has one of the tightest cover systems around, which should make up for something. Make sure to head on over to IGN to check out the full listing of the awards at the show. Tell us if you agree with some of the awards won for that category.

I think I did say on another thread that it looked like Sony was gaining some momentum with it’s games lineup. LOL

I am sure the xbots will come out of the woodwork with claims of rigging amd the awards being run by sony fanboys.

I think I will sit back and watch this thread burn baby …..

  2. darkwhitehair:

is that… is that what I think it is???

    Mike… mike you sick sick man… grrrr…

  3. Bourne:

Where the hell is everyone getting their KZ2 copies?!

  4. Barnabe Jones:

Mike hopefully we see your review before Friday. I’ve been pulling late nights all week trying to get as far as I can in FallOut before Friday.

  5. Royzy:

I have to prepare and pitch to a client on Thursday, so I’m stuck for Fallout time at the min. Have to wait until after Killzone 2. Daymn!

Gears2 is “Great” and all, no one doubts that.No one!.(Playsation 4 life son!) But what should it have won if there was no shooter category?

Plus to have a “Shooter” category is just nonsense.
What does “shooter” even mean? Any game with guns? That category is just to big and vague to be serious.

Too bad CAD never made that bet with me. We would have gotten rid of him once and for all!

I’m sure if Gears 2 was a ps3 exclusive instead of 360, the X-bots would’ve been all over it. They would’ve said all kinds of crap about how overly hyped the game was and the usual “Again, sony fails to live up to the promises” shit they say everyday.

    it was funny!

There is no doubt about it, PS3 has some very “artistic” games. Everything from rainbow colored walking penises that stretch from planet to planet to games where you can dress up your doll and create entire back drops for them or even watch a movie’s worth of CGI. This just goes to show that “2009 Will Be the Year of the PS3″. I’ll stick with my PS2 and PSP and consider again when (if) God of War 3 comes out later on this year on a less expensive console that has the same features it was originally released with (PS2 BC).

    Carl,

They just announced a new Hanna Montana game for the PSP today. If you pre-order at GameStop now, you’ll get a free wig.

  11. phranctoast:

Very well recieved game carlb. All rated outstanding from ign. I do however agree.2009 like 2008 will be the year of the ps3.

  12. chillyfish:

You might have to wait a bit longer for God of War 3, Sony are now saying it’ll release in the -fiscal- year.

    March 2010?

  13. CarlB:

Barnabe says God of War 3 taste = Hanna Montana… interesting.

PS3 is a must cheap bastard LoL.

I got 2 PS3 model both can play PS2 games not like i need backwards compatibility i got 6 PS2s from the SOCOM II rank up days i kept them all LoL. I got the 60GB PS3 which my sister bought it for me cost $923 with Resistance: Fall of Man on January 21, 2007 and my second PS3 the 80GB on January 2009 used cost $350 couldn’t read disc the next paid Sony $161 to fix working fine now.

Hannah Montana she is cool… The game hopefully too. http://www.mininova.org/user/Ivan_PS3

    Big LOL …..

  16. phranctoast:

Two games look like they will be able to satisfy the gametype need for a GOW clone before/possibly GOW3 drops.

Darsiders and Dantes Inferno. Darksiders should be out by June. They keep pushing it back.
Dantes Inferno is still said to be a year away though. EA has to be smart about DI’s release date, if they don’t want it to be overshadowed by GOW3. It is said to have the exact same button layout and everything.

  17. Barnabe Jones:

Carl, I kid. I kid. I’m excited to see the PSP version of Little Big Planet announced. I think that could end up being one of the best platformers to date on the PSP. And just imagine what could possibly be done with the interconnectivity between the PSP and PS3 versions… possible user generated level creation for the PSP version?

  18. CarlB:

Ivan, yeah, I’m cheap, and I also want PS2BC in my PS3 if I ever get one. Give me one of your PS3’s and we’ll call it even… moneybags.

The funniest part about that is that it would mean he would have had to be interested enough in Hanna to click on the link and find the offer spidey.

Barnabe, I know… I would be more excited if they had DLC for FFTWoL (could you imagine the possibilities there between SE released content and user created content if done right?), even though I am still going through the PSP version extras now and have broken the 100 hour mark. … waiting for an upgrade with trophies for PSP games too, that would be sweet.
