There is no PS3 price cut – deal with it
There is another rampant rumor running amok indicating that the PS3 will receive a price cut sometime soon. The rumors point towards sometime in April or June of this year. However, all signs seem to indicate that the PS3 in fact will not receive the speculated price cut anytime soon.
Rumors about a PS3 price cut have been circulating the Internet after the Xbox 360 received a massive price cut last September. Most of the rumors were just pure speculation and wishful thinking. A price cut would definitely create a nice sales spike for the PS3 and would make it a bit more appealing to those sitting on the fence due to its price.
As mentioned in Dave’s story, an analyst indicated that there is talk within the channels that a $100 price drop to the PS3 would be announced in a matter of days. He also claimed that the PS3 would get a Blu-ray less version, which would be pointless as Dave iterated. The most telling reason why the PS3 will not receive a price drop is from what Sony Europe Boss, David Reeves said last month.
In my story last month, I indicated that Reeves was adamant that Sony would not drop the price until the PS3 is profitable enough to stay at break even manufacturing costs even after a price drop. Basically a decision was made in an executive meeting with the board members that a price drop would be out of the question until the PS3 reaches break even costs.
Here is the exact quote made by Reeves last month:
The most important thing for us as a company in the very short term is for us to start making money. This is a pledge that was made last March and is something that we are still very much on target to achieve. Once we have achieved this, I think it will be a very exciting time for PlayStation. Once we have alleviated that specific pressure, we can move forward at a rate of knots.
It sounds like the meeting was in March where the strategic decision was made. Sony is in a difficult situation as there is pressure to drop the price, but in doing so will push them further away from becoming profitable.
The best solution seems to be to bite the bullet by losing some short term sales, and try to make up for it by dropping the price after the PS3 has become profitable later on. Unless Sony had another meeting since last month to make an emergency decision to drop the price, I highly doubt such a massive price drop will occur. However, I have been known to be wrong and if that is the case I’m sure I will be eating my words next week.

back onto killzone 2… just a hint about the first boss.. make sure the guys on your team throwing grenades don’t die… or else you will be sitting there going “wtf… kid don’t die even though i shot his head and his back like the guy said” for 30minutes… i died and when i came back and did it, took me less then a minute (was seriously pissed by this point)

Damn, you shelled out $1000 for your PS3?
I bought my brother in law KZ2 for his birthday last night, went to EB games who price matched with JB for $89 plus a collector’s tin. Will be playing it on Sunday.
I picked up a copy of Street Fighter 4 while I was there and was playing it for some time last night. I am an old school SF2 player, so picking up Ken and Ryu was like riding a bike. What I found funny was the people who challenged me online must have seen my ‘n00b’ status when they were looking for a fight when they had unlocked all the characters etc. They must have been thinking that they were going to get easy wins/achivements out of me. It didn’t work well for some French kid who tried it on me, after beating him 7 times in a row I was copping all sorts of French expletives down the headset. I guess calling him a cheese eating surrender monkey and Pepe Le Pew didn’t help matters… well for him anyway.

Been playing K2 online. Feels like there is a slight delay on the ‘you just killed that person’ notification, I’d be interested to know what you think.
Though the blip sound when you kill is quite satisfying, like on Half Life 2 when you kill a Combine. And Squads are cool, and the game modes and all the other stuff, ribbons, etc.
I’m too tired to get into the online tonight, I’ll perhaps go on tomorrow. I’ll keep on with the Campaign for 20min then go bed.

oh and one more thing, someone wanna tell me how to knife in kz2? im using controller layout alternate 2 (cod4 layout) and to push the r3 button is to melee with bunt of the gun, yet in the bottum left hand corner of the screen it has a symbol for the knife next to the grenades… how do you use knife? and it is possible to set it up so you only ever knife no melee kills?

If you press the D-Pad right, he will equip it but slash at the same time, so you can get a kill in as you equip on the fly.

They aren’t one hit kills I don’t think, sometimes they die, sometimes they don’t. I guess you need a few rounds (or someone else put in a few rounds) to soften them up first.

The knife is one hit kill on campaign usually, so I guess it would be online too (haven’t tried knife online).

well ive noticed in Campaign if you melee front on, they die, if you do it from behind they tend to turn around and unload a clip… that and habe you noticed that head shots arn’t always a kill? that got really annoying just before you get into the tank and you doing that whole fighting above the flood gate

I think I know what you mean, but I haven’t experienced it often, if I do I’m not always convinced I hit it (and if I did it could of been the helmet). I’m usually aiming to blow the helmet off so I can get that trophy, rather than the actual head (unless it is with the shotgun, which is too satisfying not to pop melons with).

That is pretty much an official admission that guarantees the PS3 is donalded (donald ducked) in this gen.
There is simply no credible way they can sell enough units to catch nevermind pass the total Xbox sales numbers; not in the 2 or 3 years now left until the next next gen comes along.
