The PSP has been enjoying a successful run, especially in Japan. The handheld just topped the 50 million mark recently. Considering the cost of the PSP, it is doing quite well for itself in the video game market. The system also received a huge boost from the latest iteration of Monster Hunter.

Although we’re probably at least two years away from any next-gen console seeing the light of day, it’s important to keep an eye on where the industry is headed from time to time. Unfortunately, I’ve got a nasty feeling that the PS4, Xbox 720, and Wii 2 (or whatever they end up being called) will all turn out to be almost identical to each other.

The chances are that most of you reading this article have, like me, been gamers for a while. You may have started when you were young kids, and you may now be well into adulthood and still enjoying the fine hobby that is video gaming. And chances are high that you are not a murderer, rapist, or criminal in any way. And even if you are, it’s likely to have nothing to do with your penchant for games.

Syphon Filter was one of the most popular franchises on the PSOne back in the day. It was also once considered to be a direct contender to Metal Gear Solid on the PSOne. However, after a long slumber on the PSP, the game may make a next gen comeback to give the Metal Gear franchise a run for its money.

Apparently, the geniuses at Sony Santa Monica have done it again. The studio managed to create a God of War iteration that has made David Jaffe proud. The studio released some pictures of the game recently and it looks phenomenal. However, the big question on everyone’s mind is – does it play well?

Is the Nintendo charge to the top of the games industry ever going to end? It doesn’t look like it. The latest U.S. sales data for January has been released by NPD, and it shows the Wii again on top by a huge margin. The Xbox 360 is holding steady, while the PS3 saw sales drop year on year.

One of silliest arguments made this console generation is the loss of exclusive titles. Initially when games like Devil May Cry 4 was announced for the Xbox 360, many fanboys argued that the PS3 was doomed because it was losing exclusives left and right. However, with games like Dead Rising 2 being released on the PS3, many will argue that the Xbox 360 may be doomed.

While the PS3 is doing fine in relative terms, Sony could do with new ways of pushing the console and promoting its multimedia capabilities. So how about combining movies and games on the one Blu-ray disc? It could work.

One of the longest surviving rumors on the Web is about Crysis landing on the home consoles. Crytek already revealed that a working engine has been developed for next gen consoles. However, despite the continuous denials from the studio, hints have been leaking out of the studio indicating otherwise.
