Microsoft finalizing Bioshock 2 exclusive deal with Take-Two?
Bioshock was hailed as the game of the year by many critics back in 2007. The game definitely earned that title as it mixed various genres while providing an engrossing and original story. There is still some question as to if Bioshock 2, the sequel, will be a timed Xbox 360 exclusive like the original or if it will be a day-one multiplatform title.
Take-Two recently released a list of games that will be coming out this fiscal year, which ends in October. Pretty much all of the games on the list indicated which platform it will be out on except two. One game is called Beaterator which is a music rhythm game which Take-Two already revealed to be coming out on the PSP. The other game is none other than Bioshock 2 which has TBA next to the name.
It really is curious as to why Take-Two continues to refuse to reveal the platforms for Bioshock 2. The teaser trailer for the sequel was shipped on the PS3 version which is a good indicator that the game will come out on that platform. There is very little doubt that the game will come out on both platforms, but will Microsoft get a timed exclusive deal like last time?
There is only one likely reason why Take-Two has yet to reveal the platforms and that is because the publisher is probably in negotiations with Microsoft on securing the game as a timed exclusive. You may not realize it but this type backdoor dealings happen often.
Microsoft revealed that there will be some unannounced exclusives near the end of this year and Bioshock 2 may be one of those games. With the state of the economy, company exec’s will look for ways to have one’s cake and eat it too.
If Take-Two can get a nice hefty check from Microsoft and release Bioshock 2 six months later on the PS3, it just might be too tempting to pass up. However, the only downside to this practice is that late launching games rarely sell well.

Microsoft is killing the Xbox brand profit idiots. There’s no way they can keep buying timed exclusive. Sony is so fucking obvious, they making millions making their own must have exclusives. Bioshock 2 hopefully it will better then firt one.
March 11th, 2009
was about to say, perhaps sony grew some balls and the shoe is on the other foot?
March 11th, 2009
If true, Take-Two are on quite a nice Microsoft gravy train aren’t they.
Though given T2 just announced losses again, perhaps MS will have to add some more gravy powder to that cheque.
March 11th, 2009
*facepalm*
wait what?
March 11th, 2009
Shame for the PS3 boys. Not to worry, i’ll let you know what the game is like after I have finished it.
March 11th, 2009
In house development is not necessarily the cash cow everyone thinks it is. Big blockbuster titles are expensive to develop and will require a significant number of sales to be profitable. Take MGS4 for example – it supposedly cost $60million to produce and market. Assuming the developer gets $20 (generous estimate) for each game sold, they would have to sell 3 million full price titles titles to break even. Not and easy task. In an HD Console market that no longer has a dominant platform, to develop exclusively is just plain stupid. Sure it may cost more to develop for two consoles but then you are potentially doubling your sales figures.
March 11th, 2009
I hope it’s a timed exclusive. The first one was and I got it for $20. It was $30 with a take two coupon knocking off an additional $10. They devalue the product when they do things like this, and ps3 fans that want the game at a reduced price benefit.
PS3 fans will have plenty of great games to play at the end of the year.
March 11th, 2009
I have to complete the first one yet. After all the other games I’m still playing. K2, Fallout 3 and Wipeout are the 3 main games I’m playing at the moment, but they will have to wait too now, with Resi 5 coming at the end of the week.
I’m not too worried if it is a timed exclusive, as long as we get it (though unless I thoroughly enjoy the first one I might not be that bothered).
March 11th, 2009
“Timed Exclusive” – another phrase M$ introduced this generation, along with “RROD”, “Disc Scratching”, and who can forget “33% Failure Ratio”….
March 11th, 2009
I also hope its a timed exclusive for the 360.
There’s already a whole hoard of exclusives coming our way and it could get difficult to find time to play so many. So it would be best if bioshock 2 comes in late after we go through the rest of the games and then put the icing on the cake with Bioshock 2.
Looking forward to a great year.
March 11th, 2009
@Barnabe.
And despite all these crap, X-bots continue to make garbage claims about how great the $hitBox is. If it weren’t for these morons re-buying the $hitbox everytime it failed, it doubt it would’ve sold half the units it did.
March 11th, 2009
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL…………………………….
March 11th, 2009
Hey, you also forgot the other end of the coin. It’s called Exclusive DLC. That could hapen too. Anyways I hope it remains exclusive to the 360 and maybe you will get it a year after. I can’t wait to play Bioshock 2. It’s not mentioned a lot but I have a feeling that this game will be as big as Halo, Gears and COD.
March 11th, 2009
Everyone knows PS3 versions take six months longer to develop anyway, so “timed exclusives” or not, PS3 owners end up being last over the line.
Nothing new for PS3rd.
March 11th, 2009
Didn’t PS3 get exclusive DLC for Bioshock? Or did 360 get the DLC too?
March 11th, 2009
Maybe they will offer a deal to M$. I can see Take two being slightly pissed at Sony at the moment. MLB: The Show 09 completely wiped the floor with MLB2K9 in reviews. All intelligent baseball fans will know which one to buy.
Sony needs to work on their NBA games now.
March 11th, 2009
“PS3rd” hee, hee..i like that….
March 11th, 2009
I can understand why X-bots are jumping about. I would be excited too if I didn’t have any other exclusives to look forward to.
March 11th, 2009
Bioshock 2 will end up on PLAYSTATION 3 eventually with add-ons lke the first Bioshock did. I don’t care much for this game even if is release on PS3 and Shitbox 180 together. Xbox is dead
March 11th, 2009
Meh, I could get it on 360 or PC. PC all the way.
March 11th, 2009
No be fair hamburger, Xbox users have a got another Halo game out in a few months.
March 11th, 2009
with only three additional new multiplayer maps.
March 11th, 2009
@lock_down
Okay…I’ll be fair and make a slight adjustment to my statement.
“I would be excited too if I didn’t have any other exclusives WORTH PLAYING to look forward to”.

Another great steal for the 360!
Bioshock is easily in my top 5 greats of all time
March 11th, 2009
Not quite a steal…. more like cleaning on to for dear life, before it inevitably gets pried out of your hands.
The first one was very good though.
March 11th, 2009
Microsoft had better make this happen, they need it desperately. The fans don’t, they’ll get the game, it doesn’t matter if it’s a timed exclusive. But their games division needs SOMETHING besides a half-Halo title to spur sales this year.
-Arvis
March 11th, 2009
“more like cleaning”…. -I suck. “clenching”
March 11th, 2009
I always thought it was “clinging”
March 11th, 2009
Hmmm maybe that’s what I was going for? I think “clenching” sounds better now though.
I have such a bad habit of not double checking my posts before I send them.
March 11th, 2009
“Takes Two’s Chief Financial Officer Elaine Goldstein, was asked “can you give us an idea as to this 13 million GTA 4 units, how many of those are Xbox 360 platform?” she replied “It’s approximately 50/50″
March 11th, 2009
haha PS3rd, I love it!
I don’t understand why you people are going on about how Microsoft are desperate. Last time I checked, the 360 was wiping the floor with the PS3rd in both hardware and software sales, something that Killzone 2 couldn’t even stop. If anyone should be hitting the panic button, it should be Sony….
March 11th, 2009
Why should Sony be hitting the panic button?
Last time I checked, the PS3 has big games on the horizon for this year, on top of Killzone 2. I’m not aware what Microsoft ha…no, I lie, I do know. More Halo games. And Alan Wake of course…er, I mean in theory.
Where is Alan Wake? Anyone got any ideas?
March 11th, 2009
The last time you checked Harry was in 2005, when the xbox360 had no competition….of course it was wiping the floor. But of course at that time most people were wiping the floor clean of their tears of despair, because their new 360 had RROD on them….. lol
PS3rd … yes imaginative, I’ll give yas that. But who really cares !! 360 and ps3 are not going anywhere and certainly not anywhere near “dead”
Bioshock 2 timed exclusive…. bah, I’ll just play it on PC and get a better experience than 360 anyways …..
March 11th, 2009
i don’t know who’s pic is scarier being spideydog or harry sachz…it’s a toss up but both freaky when i was a youngster lol
March 11th, 2009
lock_down,
Here’s why they should;
1 – They went from a dominant number 1 to last place in the space of one generation
2 – They are losing money each console they sell
3 – They cannot drop the price of said console due to economic pressures, thus will continue to lose ground on competitors
4 – These new ‘exclusive’ games have been hit and miss, i.e Lair, Haze etc, and the hits have not resulted in a significant boost in sales.
Perhaps Microsoft don’t have as many exclusive games announced for 2009 yet, however I would suggest to gaze upon E3 to find out what’s actually coming for the 360 for the year. I smell something is cooking over in Microsoft Towers!
Spidey, really? an RROD reference? I thought you were better than that?
March 11th, 2009
lol kevo. I think Spideys is more scary, Pennywise the clown gave me nightmares, actually he still does.
March 11th, 2009
harry’s pic is complimented by a link to scat, so I think he wins.
March 11th, 2009
‘These new ‘exclusive’ games have been hit and miss’
Stop it. STOP IT RIGHT NOW HARRY. Those games are relatively ancient now. As ancient as RROD. I think I’d prefer to keep a few duff exclusives in the closet. HA…
[runs]
March 11th, 2009
Thanks for that harry.
Perhaps you could now tell us where Alan Wake is?
March 11th, 2009
You could probably tell from the tone of the reply, it was purely a joke my friend….same as the one guys pull for the ps3
I agree with Royzy though….there have been plenty of good exclusives since those abominations and plenty more to come. The ps3 is doing fine and I don’t need to ego stroke myself because it aint beating the competition. I’m still getting a damn fine gaming experience !!
Oh and Pennywise RULZ
March 11th, 2009
Oh and the 360 Arcade model…..really ?? I would much rather a wii…. and that’s saying something
People buy the arcade model because they are ignorant to the fact that you still have to shell out crap loads to get the full experience, but hey it’s really cheap ?? I got a pro model and I still need to buy other “additional m$ only accessories” to get the full experience and value to the ps3 ??
March 11th, 2009
ugh… so harry… sigh… I hate doing this… why should I care if Sony loses or makes money?
Name one time when making millions of profit have led to a better gaming experience for the gamers. Companies make money, they lose money. As long as I get to play good games, Im happy and you should be happy with whatever games you play, the consoles you play them on shouldnt matter to anyone else.
I like old harry back, he made gamer blorge fun
March 11th, 2009
well… amma keep playing killzone 2 til infamous comes out.. then amma wait for uncharted 2 then modern warfare 2 then heavy rain then .. my most anticipated game… GOD OF WAR III
then…. idk whats in 2010
March 11th, 2009
They all say they are losing money each console in every generation …… But you know what….. they are makin money somewhere, or else they wouldn’t be in the business.
March 11th, 2009
How the fuck would I know where Alan Wake is? Do I look like a developer?
DWH, I see your point, but when we have rampant douchebaggery about how Microsoft should be in a panic etc, that shit’s gotta be quashed.
Let’s make a deal, we won’t mention Haze or Lair as long as you don’t mention RRoD. Both of these are things of the past. How’s that for a truce?
March 11th, 2009
harry sachz:
Just shut the fuck already you an stupid idiot.
Alan Wake is getting cancel.
Too Human is worse than L.A.I.R or Haze which is good.
PS3 is doing better than Xbox behind doors.
March 11th, 2009
no the shit doesnt have to be squashed… we should encourage people to make a fool out of themselves… more free entertainment for me…
for every Haze and Lair, I can give you Too Human and Alan Wake… for every RROD and “Live Everywhere” I can give your PSN crashes… for every 9 million copies of Halo 3… I can give you 11 million Wii Fit… you just cant win… at the end of the day… youre (not you harry) not presenting anything that would force me to throw out my console to buy something else… cus youre stupid… and I jerk off to your stupidity…
March 11th, 2009
harry I think Ivan’s bawls are starting to drop… soon he will have rapidly changing emotions and a cracking voice… with people like IVAN AND KEV!! WHY SHOULD I PAY $50 FOR LIVE!!! RAWR!!!
March 11th, 2009
lol Harry
March 11th, 2009
harry… for every ivan and spidey theres a kev and CAD, it goes both ways, there also the guys like SW, DWH and Arvis who seem to be pretty leveled… we just know how to laugh at ivan… if you learn how, well then… blorge just got a hell of alot more fun for you
and DWH is right… having rival companies = better games for all… i can admit even though i sold my 360 theres a fair few games i wouldnt mind having… and i can bet theres ps3 games uve looked over and gone…well why cant that be multi plat?
at the end of the day where all gamers, shouldnt that mean something?
March 11th, 2009
awww… lets all hug eachother and have a circle jerk…
March 11th, 2009
@ Ivan, how about you quieten down, continue working on your fu-man-chu moustache and keep watching Hannah Montana?
I bought Too Human for $45 off Ebay. I have to admit, I went in there with rather low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. Upgrading weapons and doing monster combos never got old.
Mick, true, I have wanted to get my hands on Valkyria Chronicles, and Resistance 2 would be a good addition to my collection.
DWH, let’s go one level up from circle jerking, have you heard of a game called ‘Soggy Saos’? A Sao is a type of biscuit here.
March 11th, 2009
the concepts of too human sounded great… diablo like RPG with DMC like action… will buy it if I get a deal like that…
ohh and resistance retribution looks great… I think it got a better score than Resistance 2… ohh the irony… graphics looks like shit though…
March 11th, 2009
I like tim tams… why dont we make do with that ?
gawd I miss tim tams…
March 11th, 2009
Cheese and biscuits is the UK equivalent.
Yeah it’s a crap name, but it does what it says on the tin.
March 11th, 2009
bigmickyd,
Are you colour blind ???? I own a 360 and often say good things about 360 ??? How do I get barrelled in with the ps3 Ivan bracket you fool ??
Have you considered for even a second that Harry and I have a friendly rivalry going on ….. ie, we are just mucking around with each other.
Read more than the first two lines of a post before replying idiot.

1. Two Worlds
“”SouthPeak Interactive
Awful graphics? Check. Awful sound. Check. Horrible controls and gameplay? Check. The only fresh feature completely broken (online play)? Check. Two Worlds is an absolute failure in just about every respect on the Xbox 360. Don’t play it. Don’t wish it on your worst enemies. Just ignore it.

2. Bomberman: Act Zero
“”Konami
If ever there was a game that didn’t need a darker and more sinister re-imagining, Bomberman is it. But they did it anyway. While they were busy working on the new look, they forgot a few things like good graphics and sound and offline multiplayer (seriously, WTF?). At least they remembered to make the gameplay extra terrible.

3. Jumper: Griffin’s Story
“”Brash Entertainment
Usually when a game is ported from a lesser system to the Xbox 360, some effort goes into making everything shiny and at least a little bit better looking. Not the case here. Pure PS2 fugly graphics through and through. The gameplay is about as deep as a puddle as well. And they expected us to pay $60 for it. Hi-larious.

4. Hour of Victory
“”Midway
The first and biggest problem is that Hour of Victory is a World War II shooter about 2 years too late. The other problems are that the graphics and sound are horrible, the level design is awful, the A.I. is as dumb as rocks, and there are glitches and bugs everywhere. Bad times.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog
“”SEGA
Over the years, it seems that SEGA has forgotten that the whole appeal of Sonic the Hedgehog is that he runs very very fast. We don’t need new characters, and we especially don’t need a human/hedgehog kiss. Sonic’s next-gen debut was plagued by long load times, a bad camera, awkward controls, and just plain bad gameplay.

6. Vampire Rain
“”Microsoft
Vampire Rain is probably the easiest stealth game in history. We can accept that fighting the vampires is a bad idea since they are so powerful, but when sneaking past them is so ridiculously easy the whole concept falls apart and just becomes boring. It doesn’t help that there are tons of cutscenes broken up by long load times. The graphics and sound are average at best. And when you mix it all together, you get a bitter stew of failure.

7. NFL Tour
“”EA
We were never big fans of the NFL Street series to begin with, but EA’s latest attempt at arcade-style football is a step in the absolute wrong direction. Offense is just stupidly easy. Defense is just stupidly hard. The commentary is horrible and repetitive. And even if you don’t mind the other stuff, you’ll burn through the scant few modes in a day. NFL Tour is a waste.

8. NASCAR 08
“”EA
EA broke NASCAR. The whole appeal of these games is taking our favorite drivers and tearing around tracks at high speed. But EA thought it would be better to make the cars impossible to handle for the first lap and then pull to the left for the entire race. The gameplay is just terrible. Add on top of that bland graphics and sound and a lack of modes, and you have one big fail sandwich.

9. Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009
“”Activision
Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009 is the lazy man’s fishing game. You never have to move your boat and it doesn’t matter what lure you use because the fish will bite anything and you literally catch a fish on every cast. There is no challenge or strategy or realistic fishing here whatsoever. The potential audience for fishing games is already pretty small, but Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009 is too simple of a game to appeal to even the most desperate fisherman.

10. Beijing 2008
“”SEGA
The Official Videogame of the 2008 Beijing Olympics lives up to the standards set by every other Olympic videogame released so far. And that isn’t a good thing. It is brutally difficult and features outdated button mashing controls to produce one of the most frustrating games we have seen in a long time. On top of all of that, long load times and clunky menus make restarting when you fail (and it will happen a lot) a chore.

well DWH, Soggy Saos is a game where you stand around in a circle, put a biscuit in the middle and begin jerking it on the biscuit. Whoever ejaculates last has to eat it.
Yeah I wouldn’t put Spidey with Ivan. Hamburger and Ivan are probably a good fit. Spidey and I have a bit of a laugh at each other’s expense.
March 11th, 2009
spidey read over your comments on this post and see you could make that mistake…
arnt Saos Aus only harry? i remember reading on the box australian made and owned or something? and i have some weird ass thoughts bout wat soggy saos could be… if its wat i think your one sick puppy
DWH, we still have tim tams? U.S.A must be missing out, we have four or five different types now, normal ones, dark choc, white choc, ones with caramel inside and even ones that they sell to rasie money for breats cancer that are pink on the outside and not choc, there really nice, and for a good cause…
in stead of circle jerk… group hug in the shower tonight?

Hey Spidey, have you put your 360 on Live? If so, what’s your ID?

wait… harry, ur telling me your standing in a circle with others jerking off around you?… man how much weed/alkie is consumed before one takes part… if you say none, then man… well maybe take up being in porn or something?
March 11th, 2009
bigmickyd,
Let me see, my first comment was very obviously a pun with Harry, my second was a neutral comment advocating my ownership of a 360, but not liking the arcade model and not appreciating the fact I had to spend a little extra to get the full experience, the third comment was another neutral one about all the console makers stating they are making a loss on each console sold in every generation and the last comment was me laughing with Harry at the other guys having a crack at him and his replies made me laugh.
Ok, so I guess you didn’t know about the friendly digs Harry and I have going. We learn something new everyday….. even if it is soggy saos, although that is a more devilish version of soggy sao’s that I knew off !!!!
March 11th, 2009
You see Harry, I don’t have an xtra $150 for a wireless network adaptor for the 360 and my router is too far away for a cable….. so no I’m not on live. If I can figure out a way of doing it, you will be the first to know.
It is really pissing me off actually, because I want to download some extra content for my games. As it is, I had to burn the latest 360 update to cd to have the new interface
March 11th, 2009
Quote “Yes. I have never lost.”
No wonder the ladies call you a “Victor” (two stroke wonder)
March 11th, 2009
maybe harry you should try that AMI nashel delivery system and they have a rematch with them… and then tell us you’ve never lost.
as i said spidey i didn’t know, and im running a 40m cable to my ps3 with zero lag? cant do same with 360? (i didnt have tv in my room when i had 360, so i had like a 5m cable running to it)
March 11th, 2009
Well you know the saying, arseholes finish first.
I wouldn’t do the wireless thing, although if you really want to and have a laptop in the house, you can connect it to the 360 and set it as a wireless bridge.
I paid the local antenna guy $90 to install a couple of network wall plug things (one near the router and one near the TV) and run a cable up the wall and through the roof connecting the two. Apart from saving $60, I now have a hardwired connection to Xbox live with no risk of dropouts.
You also have the IP over Power option, but I think they’re still a little expensive.
March 11th, 2009
On the topic of internet connections, has anyone got ADSL2? Is there much of a difference in terms of connection speed etc for gaming? I’ve been toying with the idea of switching over ever since the exchange near my place had it switched on.
March 11th, 2009
Is it the normal computer network cable ?? My long cable didn’t seem to work when I tried.
I do have a laptop, but dont want to tie it up with the 360 network connection (only just got a new laptop – very nice)
March 11th, 2009
ADSL2 is better, but depends on the phone lines in the area…. if they are old shitty cables, there maybe line noise and they will have to dial it down a little to keep a reliable connection (thats what happened to mine)
March 11th, 2009
Yep. Just a run of the mill, blue network cable.
Well i might wait till i get paid next to look at upgrading to ADSL2. I would need to get a new router. Any suggestions? I’ve been looking at the Dlink 2740B.
March 11th, 2009
Yeah that long cable is busted… as a matter of interest I might try the laptop connection.
I would go with belkin. I had a belkin ADSL 1 wireless router/modem and it laster years, then it died – they have a lifetime guarantee. I e-mailed them and a box arrived the next day with a new ADSL2 wireless modem/router (updated model too), I put the old busted one in the box and gave it back to them.
March 11th, 2009
really? i have a belkin router which i have to reboot about 3 times a day because it loses the wireless signal. i might try that also and see what i can get out of them.
March 12th, 2009
i got a linkeyes or something wireless G router, though i run a 40m cable out of it cause the wireless in my room gets to much interference
i run a cable from a spliter to my room where i have 2 cables coming out, one 2 the ps3 the other 2 the computer… that works fine?
March 12th, 2009
sorry, a spilter to a 2nd router in my room, it was just easier that way then trying to run everything off one router, we got 7 computers plus a few other things that eat up the internet
March 12th, 2009
yeah i got a belkin but on cod4 sometimes it gets all strict on me like my 4th grade nun teacher lol
March 12th, 2009
I run both my laptop and ps3 via wireless and it doesn’t miss a beat.
Oh I tried running the 360 via the laptop and it failed…. media centre works (quite impressive actually) but refused to connect to internet. it says it cannot get an ip address ?? I have 2 computers, a ds lite, a laptop and a ps3 all connect fine, but the 360 is being a bitch ??!!
March 12th, 2009
Only thing I have here is a notebook on an old 802.11b network. Cat5/e/6 cable all the way here.
I defy you to get a solid 20mbps connection with wireless that actually gives you that kind of throughput totally %100 solid.
Could also get some home plug network adapters if you have shitty wireless reception, uses your house wiring as a network, pretty neat stuff (even if it is a sucky bus network, much like wireless!).
March 12th, 2009
try assigning one manually. I haven’t tried the wireless bridging myself, but i do know it works.
March 12th, 2009
Might try again tomorrow, got the shits with it today
March 12th, 2009

That really would be humorous.
March 12th, 2009
arvis – “But their games division needs SOMETHING besides a half-Halo title to spur sales this year”
just when i think you’re reasonable, you say something like this.
the highest tie in ratio of any of the 3 consoles says there’s much more than halo games selling on the 360…
March 12th, 2009
ohh… but the Xbox 360 Top Live Titles say otherwise doesnt it kev??
March 12th, 2009
Spidey, just get a cheap wireless access point. In the US they start around $40. Here in the UK you can get a Wireless N one for about £40 (only of use if your router is wireless N too, otherwise there will be no benefit)
March 12th, 2009
Kev,
Did I say something wrong? I did say “this year” did I not? Halo ODST looks cool, but that’s the only exclusive I can think of that 360 owners can look forward to this year. If M$ can tie up Bioshock 2, that would be huge for them, wouldn’t it? Then 360 owners would have TWO exclusives to look forward to. That’s twice as many as they currently have.
And before Mr. Greenburg hits the “Defend Xbox” button on you, Kev, Alan Wake is an unknown quantity and not even guaranteed to release this calendar year.
-Arvis
April 24th, 2009
Why do people want this game to be exclusive? Why?
