Unreal Tournament 3 v2.00 released – but still no PS3 Titan Pack
Unreal Tournament 3 has been out for over a year on the PC and PS3, and for a little over six months on the Xbox 360. It’s a game that passed me by on its release, with better games release alongside it that I chose to spend my money on. But that’s now changed. I have a copy of the game and thanks to the newly-released v2.00 I’m having a ball with it.
Game patches can be viewed in one of two ways – a way for developers to expand a game and extend its lifetime, or a way to help developers rush games out without rigorous testing. I was never a fan of patches when they were purely the domain of PC games, taking the latter view. But I must admit I’m starting the change my mind.
After reading about the Titan Pack being on its way for the PS3 version of the game, I went and got myself a copy of Unreal Tournament 3. After playing it for about a week, the v2.00 patch was released, adding split-screen, Trophies, and a raft of other improvements. The game is now one of the best shooters I’ve ever played, and also one of the most addictive.
The free Titan Pack DLC was originally scheduled for release on PC and PS3 on March 5. Unfortunately for us console gamers, only the PC version saw this expansion on that date, with the PS3 update delayed until March 19 due to an issue with “the certification process.”
I’ve already discussed the Titan Pack in detail but what v2.00 has added is certainly enough to pique lapsed players interests until it arrives. Which is why the number of active players at any one time has suddenly leaped considerably, despite the obvious competition from Killzone 2 and the still-mighty Call of Duty 4.
Unreal Tournament 3 is now a game worth owning, and thanks to the new Trophies, worth playing ad infinitum. There is still a lot more to come because v2.00 doesn’t include the new characters, new maps, game types, or weapons. And of course the Titan mutator, which is likely to change the nature and course of the game massively.
Roll on March 19, and fingers crossed there aren’t anymore delays. I’ll be posting a full review after the Titan Pack is released but suffice to say, I’m spending all my time playing Unreal Tournament 3 at the moment. You never know, you may even have fragged me already.

dont bother with Unreal Tourney Dave… It went the way of Team Fortress 2… there may be some people playing it on PC… but the rest have moved on…

I think the console version was just a cash in. The PC version had much better graphics.

UT3 rocks
March 11th, 2009
I looove ut3 and even better now that split screen is finally here ….. yay
March 11th, 2009
OH I REMEMBER!!! When kev said the PS3 hardware was shit because UT 3 had split screen on the 360 but not on the PS3… I blamed it on the devs… which he then scoffed… I miss those days…
hahahaah poor kev…

Oh yeah I forgot about their claims that the ps3 was not powerful enough to run split screen….lol
Kev ultimately proved wrong again …. Shows how much he knows the “BUSINESS” not like us heathens. Wait for it, he will either not answer or say it wasn’t him that said it.

split screen as in its now 2 player… or split as in you can now have four people going like you could on COD4/resistance 1/warhawk?
March 11th, 2009
4 way split is a must for me, as i regularly have a heap of people round of i drag my ps3 off to parties… and everyone whos a PC-er wants to do UT3 which i have… but r sad when i say sure if u wanna play like a nigel and we just put COD4 in and ply shipment with shot guns only (seriously, dont knock it till you try that)
March 12th, 2009
dunno, I presumed only 2 player split ?? Need to try and find out. Is it 4 player on 360?
March 12th, 2009
52 play split screen. You thought the green glow was an LED? Atomic Reactor baby… Uber power…
But I think 360 is just 2 player split screen.

We are still waiting on that PSN ID Dave.
March 12th, 2009
spidey – if the ps3 was better they would have included it in the first place… yet here you are…still waiting……
wake me up when you actually get the feature….
until then, you’re still just fanboys hoping for features to keep up with the 360’s market standards….
you can say i’m proved wrong when it actually takes place and you’re playing it.. until then you owe me an apology….
no worries..i know you don’t have the cajones to apologize….

I’d love to know what happened to the Mouse and Keyboard Support on the 360 version of this game.
Or how about the ability to play custom maps and mods.
Yep..the 360 clearly got the superior version.
It’s a shame that the 360 isn’t receiving the Titan pack update.
It also introduces more new maps than Halo ODST does.

I’m glad they improved the game for you guy but what is the hype over split screen. I hate to split screen. Call me selfish but I prefer to have the whole screen. You loose a lot of visual when you split screen. So how is this an improvement that will make you play more. Maybe because I’m a single child I don’t know the joy of sharing.
March 12th, 2009
Also I don’t think that the 360 will receive this pack because no one here plays it and no one cares. And there was never a mouse and keyboard support. It’s all about Gears Baby!!!
March 12th, 2009
Dave, have you finally broken down and played Kill Zone 2 yet? It’s amazing, right?
March 12th, 2009
Oh Kev… that was a lame attempt at saving face, even by YOUR standards…

CAD, you’ve never had 3+ people there all wanting to blow the living crap outta each other, and not just doing lame turns on the online mode?
and its not 4 way spilt? only 2?… darn…

I am a little puzzled as to why I owe you an apology when ps3 ut3 now does have split screen (playing it now, so no longer waiting contrary to what you said)
m8 I can say you have been proved wrong because it HAS taken place and I am PLAYING it now – YOU ARE WRONG.
Now you apologise to us for not only being wrong ages ago when you said ps3 wasn’t powerful enough to run split screen, but also for being wrong again today with that comment made above. PS3 UT3 split screen exist NOW and is playable NOW.
Oh SNAP
March 12th, 2009
CAD, yeah your right full screen gaming is way better, but I can’t afford two ps3’s or even 2 360’s in the one household, so split screen is good for when I would like to play co-op with my boy. I must say we have had a blast going co-op back through the halo trilogy on 360…..
March 12th, 2009
Sorry for the 3 in a row post…but
I just wanted show Kev I can apologise. There I said sorry Kev (for 3 posts in a row)…. I would also like to say sorry because I said Kev would either not answer or say it wasn’t him making those claims…… Clearly I was wrong, as he came up with something even better.
SORRY KEV.

Oh Don’t get me wrong. I use to have all sorts of people over back in the day. I use to think my house was a drop in centre. Marriage Killed that. But yeah split screen is good for at home local play because everyone has the same disadvantage. When you split screen when online that is where I draw the line. Your disadvantage is only shared by you and you friend while everyone else online probably has a full screen while you and your friend will not get the full visual. But 4 player Local Multiplayer was enjoyed with games like Halo, Medal of Honour, Rally sport challenge 1, Def Jam fight for NY, Ballers, NBA Streets, Crimson Skies, and others that had 2-4 player split screen.
March 16th, 2009
Too right CAD.
No apology yet Kev ??

Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeev…………… Helloooooooooooo
Kev, has left the building.
