February NPD sales – Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 all on the up
I thought we were in the middle of a biting recession, one that was affecting every single sector of society. We are, of course, except that it doesn’t seem to be having too big an impact on the gaming industry. Sales of all consoles were up last month in the U.S., showing that gamers are either recession-proof or are increasingly turning to their hobby to cheer them up in these troubled times.
The industry grew 10 percent in February year over year, and while this actually suggest a slowdown overall, it shows how the video games sector is still doing well despite the economic crisis. No surprises in terms of the placing, with the Wii and DS on top, the Xbox 360 in the middle, and Sony’s three consoles, the PS3, PSP, and PSP bringing up the rear.

Another month, another bumper pay day for Nintendo. The Wii sold an impressive 753,000 consoles, 80,000 up on last month, while the DS had another great month despite the DSi being just on the horizon.
While Street Fighter IV was the biggest-selling SKU in February, Wii Fit stayed at the top of the charts. There seems to be no shifting this in-demand lifestyle device. Not bad for a piece of software which is still hard to come by, is expensive, and isn’t really even a game.
Microsoft
Steady as she goes for the Xbox 360. Not a spectacular result but one that Microsoft will no doubt be pleased with. The Xbox 360 sold 391,000 units, 80,000 over last month. NPD made special mention that this represents Microsoft’s biggest non-holiday sales month with the exception of the month Halo 3 was launched.
Sony
What can Sony do to turn things around? This wasn’t a bad month by any means, with all three consoles experiencing increased sales, but the total of all three still didn’t match sales of the Wii alone. At least there were two PS3 games in the top ten this month, with Street Fighter IV and Killzone 2 making the grade. The latter is especially impressive seeing as it only came out at the end of the month.

These results are kinda getting too predicable.
Wii is going to streak ahead and win this generation using last generation gear.
360 is going to continue being the best selling, thus dominant hi-def system.
Ps3rd…. Wow, what a debacle for Sony. Going from an absolute powerhouse last gen to dead last, and falling behind further each month. For their sake I hope they’re busy working their butts on the PS4th (behind the iphone) to try to recoup lost profits from this white elephant.

damn…. the wii is just printing money. The combined totals of all of Sonys products don’t even come close to wii total sales.

Holy moly. Kill Zone 2 was released the 27th. That’s only two days worth of sales. Not too shabby at all.

Fifa is actually a lot of fun… I did like Pro evo for its multiplayer like 1v1 on the PS2… cus its hard to score in that game… whereas in Fifa theres a lotta goals… buts its still realistic… and fun

DWH, Lock_down is right Pro Evo is way better then Fifa. FIFA is commerical. The realism that is found in Pro Evo Soccor is much better. FIFA’s atmosphere seems quite dead compared to Pro Evo.

youre an idiot CAD… first of all… Pro Evo has had the same “realism” since 2005… they havent changed anything… it still plays the same… online plays better with Fifa… Pro Evo kept the same concept while Fifa improved themselves… see I can say that because I actually played the PS2 version of Fifa 08 and then the PS3 version of Fifa 09…
also I hate to use this… but Fifa 09 got better reviews…

Seriously though… 360 vs. PS3 doesn’t matter. There are much more serous issues at hand here. The issue is with Nintendo’s massive success, and the explosion of the casual market – we are all going to be screwed next gen. Sony and M$ see the gazillions that can be made on poor quality, quickly made, and cheaply made games. And guess who is going to end up paying for this? Us! That’s who.

Wrong FIFA has been trying to get upto Pro Evo Specs with each series. Pro Evo had the realism down packed for a while. That’s why die hard fans know that Pro Evo is better and their not blinded by the Americanism that EA puts on FIFA.

I’m not a Football (soccor) fan at all. But I have friends that love it. Mostly Carribean, European, and South American friends and they all say Pro Is Better. We did a test to see which was the better game and I don’t even play this game so I’m being unbias. Everyone agreed even those who did not play the game that the Game Play on Pro Evo was better then FIFA. I personally though FIFA was going to be better but after doing these comparisons Pro Evo emerged the game with the better game play. FIFA only has better online features but that’s it.

Uh for the 10 billionth time…. The 360s second place status is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. It’s a clever marking ploy, which you ignorant xbots buy into. When you Comair 2 to 3 year sales, yes the 360 is in second place – but if you look at annual sales the two consoles are neck and neck, with the PS3 pulling ahead.
