Sony has been the market leader in the games industry for two generations on the spin – its Playstation brand beating all-comers. And now we have the PS3, currently sitting in third place in a market of three and unlikely to improve on its last place anytime soon. Is Sony worried? No, it’s confident and committed.

Sony currently has more internal studios than Microsoft and Nintendo combined. There is little doubt that Sony spends a ton of money on building its in-house development studios. However, according to an ex-Sony employee it seems like Sony may not really care about selling a lot of first party games all that much.

The E74 bug/issue on the Xbox 360 is a problem that has gotten some scrutiny recently. Microsoft quickly acted on the escalating issue by extending the RRoD three year warranty to cover the E74 issue as well. However, some clues from a Microsoft rep. alludes to the fact that the E74 and the RRoD could be the same problem masked differently.

Each of the three current-gen home consoles offers something different, something unique to the others. And they all seem geared toward a certain sector of society. But in order to survive each console has to try and muscle in on the other two’s markets. Is the PS3 about to go all Wii on us?

This past week, news regarding the retirement of one of Sony’s most notable executives spread throughout the Internet. Dave Reeves has been one of the most vocal executives at Sony pushing the PS3 aggressively in Europe. Reeves delivered the PS3 in Europe successfully, managing to stay neck-in-neck with the competition.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an extremely fun game. The developers at Rockstar have done a mighty fine job in translating the latest iteration in the famous franchise to the Nintendo DS. However, despite the high expectations the sales have been lackluster. Rockstar may have made a mistake switching from the PSP to the DS.

Fat Princess is the upcoming PSN game slated to hit the store in a few months. The game has been picking up a lot of attention around the gaming community. The game looks like it is shaping up to be a must-have title for all gamers with its brilliant gameplay mechanics that mixes RTS and action.

It’s been believed up to now that the video games industry is solid-gold recession-proof. But maybe not. Certainly the NPD hardware sales figures for March 2009 show a year-on-year decline. The PS3 and Wii both dropped in that time but the brave old soldier that is the Xbox 360 actually gained in the same period.

Sony recently announced that Killzone 2 sold over a million units. A million during the middle of the year is great by any measure, but it does seem a bit low for the title. The game is without a doubt a AAA title with excellent reviews, so what went wrong? If the title was on the Xbox 360 undoubtedly it would have sold at least 4 million units.

Gran Turismo 5 – along with God of War III regarded as the main system-sellers yet to appear on the PS3. And yet it’s still nowhere to be seen. But maybe, just maybe, a rather obscure and cryptic message on a GT forum has given the game away, so to speak.
