Is the console war over already? There was me thinking it was just warming up, with sales of the Wii showing signs of slowing and the Xbox 360 and PS3 still battling it out for second place. Not according to Microsoft which, in the States at least, thinks it’s job done.

The Red Ring of Death became a major issue for Microsoft a couple years ago causing the company to establish a three year warranty program. There is a new issue that has been gaining attention on the Xbox 360 referred to as the E74 issue. Apparently, Microsoft is admitting that this issue is more widespread then originally thought to be by extending the three year warranty to cover it.

One of the biggest announcements Microsoft made during E3 last year was the new partnership with Netflix. Many consumers were extremely excited about the feature as it promised instant streaming directly to the Xbox 360. The PS3 was left out in the cold last year, but it looks like Netflix may be bringing its service to the console sometime soon.

I am finally reviewing the game which has been taking up almost all of my spare time for the past month – Unreal Tournament 3. Having missed the game completely when it first came out (even though I was a fan of the original on both the PC and Dreamcast), I was finally persuaded to take the plunge by the promise of a much-needed update adding Trophies and splitscreen, and by the addition of the Titan Pack.

In a recent interview the head of Bethesda Software bragged how great of a job the company is doing supporting the gamers with DLC. One of the execs at the studio indicated that they have nearly perfected the best DLC strategy. However, I am sure there are about two million PS3 Fallout 3 owners that may beg to differ.

Gamers across the globe have been complaining over the speculation that the $5 Versus DLC is just a key code that unlocks content on the disc. Capcom has stated that Versus mode is something the developers came up with after production was well under way. However, many have been accusing Capcom of lying about the nature of the Versus DLC.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have consoles currently on the market and all are likely to produce a new on and bring it to market in the next few years. But which company will blink first? Microsoft has been receiving criticism for the Xbox 360′s seemingly lackluster lineup for 2009. It is almost the half point in the year and very little has been revealed for 2009. However, what gamers may not realize is that Microsoft is building up an arsenal of games for 2010.

Nintendo has admitted there is a problem with the Wii in Japan – it isn’t selling in the numbers it once was in the country Nintendo was founded. But while it is undoubtedly a problem, Nintendo is unlikely to be too worried as it expects to rake in record annual profits for the year ending March 31.

The three next gen consoles have been dominating the video game news feeds. According to the Nielsen report it seems like the consoles may be dominating the living room as well. One interesting tid-bit to come out of the study is the fact that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 owners equally spend around the same amount of time playing games.
