Xbox 360 Alan Wake not vaporware but delayed?
Alan Wake is another Microsoft Xbox 360 exclusive title that has been in the works for a long time. Very little information has been released about the game. The game has been speculated to have become vaporware a few times, but new information regarding Alan Wake has managed to trickle out potentially signaling a delay.
A few months ago, I stated that Alan Wake could be one of the blockbuster titles of 2009 for the Xbox 360. I still firmly believe that the game has much to offer and has the potential to take over Silent Hill. I drew a parallel between the two games previously due to the heavy dependency on alternate realities within the game.
The game has been in development since 2005 before the Xbox 360 was even launched and there is still very little information around the game. Microsoft and Remedy has been keeping a super tight lid on the game with no gameplay footage released to date.

Just when rumors around Alan Wake being vaporware have begun circulating again, Remedy has reassured many that the game is still in development. According to Develop Magazine, Remedy has announced a new partnership with Imagination Studios to bring mo-cap to Alan Wake. It is definitely great to hear that the game will utilize the latest in video game technology, but this news does leave a bad aftertaste.

The fact that the game is just getting mo-cap started indicates that the title is still heavily in development. It is looking like a late 2009 release may be a pipedream at best. Chances of seeing the game in action at E3 is also greatly reduced. Hopefully, Remedy will provide yet another teaser trailer to whet our appetites.
However, one bit of good news is that Rockstar has announced that the next installment in the Max Payne franchise will be developed in-house and not by Remedy. This means that Remedy will be 100 percent heads-down on Alan Wake. Who knows, maybe Microsoft will buy up Remedy if Alan Wake delivers.

so you cant critisize killzone for being in development for so long cause this game may take longer
May 13th, 2009
Well at least they’re not resorting to labelling gameplay from a PS3 exclusive as their own…. Oh wait, they did that?
In all seriousness Alan wake looks a decent storyline. If the gameplay’s gonna be good then it will be a great game.
May 13th, 2009
What are you going on about, Bourne?
Last but of Alan Wake related news I heard was that a trailer for it was being played in Sweden before the Max Payne movie came on. So judging from the success of that film, about 12 people saw that trailer.
May 13th, 2009
harry, someone posted footage from what was meant to be a PS3 game and labelled it as Alan Wake gameplay months ago.
I think we can all see the way this is going though…it’s gonna be Heavy Rain vs. Alan Wake.
If Microsoft is gonna buy anyone then they should buy Sega and make them do Shenmue III.
May 13th, 2009
I am going on the record now: Alan Fake®
That’s right, I am trademarking “Alan Fake”. I missed my opportunity with “Gaylo”. Now when people across the internet use the term , they’ll have to pay me a licensing fee. I’ll be rich in no time.

Harry : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8pIIIusMaY
believe it or not it’s true. This was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive game, but then the studios shut down or something and it was canned?
May 13th, 2009
Alan Awake might come out in 2010 not 2009. This game is gonna be mediocre looks cool but nah that appealing most people thought it was cancel. Heavy Rain is gonna be awesome.
May 13th, 2009
Isn’t this coming out for PC as well?
Yeah Heavy Rain has me more interested as well…
I don’t think Sega can be bought….i have hopes for a true Dreamcast 2….how ever little if any there may be…
May 13th, 2009
Alan Wake.
Here’s an idea….
…..launch title for the next Xbox in 2010 –
with backward compatibility with and able to maximise the abilities of the 360?
May 13th, 2009
No. Sega can’t be bought. They need to make a sequel to Valkyria Chronicles for me first.
May 13th, 2009
Love the lighting in those pictures, the game looks really nice.
Looks like a last-gen game next to Heavy Rain, though.

Oh Arvis, that’s needless flaming
You’re right though…

You know, with all this talk about next gen systems, titles like Heavy Rain and Alan Wake, adventure games, i hope next gen takes a back seat..
Again, its because we are finally at a point where developers can, well actually, develop more risky, and less known, “original” IPs, they no longer have to worry as much about “dev costs” or “making that killer app” as those days are gone and taken care of now…I want my true next game gems and so far, truly original IPs have come from Sony, with MS second. Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, and MS Gears…
Ok Lair for the majority of players who can’t actually play games was a bust…i for one did not have a hard time flying the dragon around at all…i have platinum medals in most of the things..
anyways time is short more original IPs now, not in the next gen, where we would have to front $500+ dollars,….
May 13th, 2009
Once again JoJo29, I don’t know why you think Gears and Halo are all Microsoft has got. Expand your knowledge please.
May 13th, 2009
Also who said development cost were down? where are you getting this from?
May 13th, 2009
Next gen will take a back seat for a bit. EA, Activision, Sony and Microsoft have all said this will be the longest generation.
Plus the fact EA, Activision, as well as Take Two, THQ and Sony are all losing money this gen…and if they can’t even make money this generation, how are they going to do it in an even more powerful hardware cycle next gen?
Unless of course all next generation consoles consists of hardware like the Wii….which is probably extremely likely.
May 13th, 2009
“Once again JoJo29, I don’t know why you think Gears and Halo are all Microsoft has got.”
Like?…. Ninja Blade, Too Human and Velvet Assassin? What a bunch of stinkers for the 360 so far in 2009.
On the flip side, KillZone 2, MLB 09, and infamous have all received critical praise. 2009 has so far been the year of the PS3 and it’s not showing any signs of letting up with Ratchet, White Knight, MAG, GT5, Uncharted 2, etc.
May 13th, 2009
lock_down:
You forgot to mention Microsoft in your little bias list…
May 13th, 2009
im gonna do my war cry
May 13th, 2009
Too Human was released in 2008. Shows how much attention you’ve been paying…. Similar as to how you think that Cnet is owned by Microsoft.
May 13th, 2009
@ Chris,
How can you be comparing Alan Wake with Heavy Rain? Heavy Rain is a game full of QTEs, i.e Dragon’s Lair with pretty graphics, whereas Alan Wake is more of a Silent Hill type of game.
Come on, you’re better than these flamers, don’t become one also.
May 14th, 2009
Harry… thats oversimplyfying things a bit… first of all… we know nothing about Alan Wake… second of all… Silent Hill has shitty controls…
Heavy Rain has been made to look like an adventure game… like the old PC adventure games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango…
No one knows what Alan Wake is going to be about… but from the serious tone of the both… they do look similar…
I think Arvis is bored… I havent paid him enough attention so he acts out…

“2009 has so far been the year of the PS3″
So has it finally come??? Is this the year of the PS3?

Harry seeing as my comment is awaiting moderation, and seeing as you didn’t understand what my earlier comment meant, i suggest you go to youtube and search “fake alan wake screens”
May 14th, 2009
Bourne,
I believe you, it was the first I heard of it though, which was why I didn’t understand what you were going on about.
May 14th, 2009
Fair enough
Moderation on this site takes ages. I posted the youtube link at least 24 hours ago and it’s still under moderation?
May 14th, 2009
Just cut off the “www” bit Bourne.
Ivan, what are you talking about bias list? MS made money last fiscal year.
May 14th, 2009
CAD
you don’t like reading my posts do you? Did you notice i even failed to mention Kilzone, LBP? i was short on time so i just named what i could….ease up there buddy…no one is trying to downplay your precious MS, do not fret there lil buddy…i only mentioned Halo and Gears, because quite frankly, those are the only games big enough for me that come to mind….when i can actually sit down and think and type all day long, games like Fable, PGR, Forza come to mind…once again, relax, i wasn’t trying to topply your little MS world there..
My development costs are down, is based on the assumption and common sense, that, well, over the course of a consoles lifespan, umm..development costs would go down…common economical sense….
Also, developments costs actually adds to my argument that the next gen won’t be coming soon. We have developers bitching and moaning about how much development is costing them this generation, which is why we are getting “unfinished” games, or “locked” DLC that is already on the disc…..with the actually good games and well delivered DLC being the exception nowadays rather than the norm….or so it seems.
May 14th, 2009
I know Too Human wasn’t released this year. I just like to bring up it crappiness when I can.
2009 might be the year Sony starts to turn things around I think. I’m not sure this is going to be it, but there getting there.
1-Pics of the new PS3 slim were leaked. They could be fake, but there pretty convincing.
2- price drop.
3- by far the best line up of exclusive games.
4- some of Sony’s biggest titles (GOW, GT5) are finally going to be released.
May 14th, 2009
And finally dynamic weather and rain in GT5.
Rain + Damage + Nürburgring = Chaos
May 14th, 2009
All I’m saying is that you guys love to throw out game list and then compare it to whats on the 360 and then you don’t even give justice to the 360 list which will really blow whatever PS3 list you want to bring if you guys were only being honest with yourselves. Harry, Kev, Happy, CON, and Carl B, we could all do the same thing but we don’t because we don’t need to justify ourselves. Our nuts are big enough that we don’t need to show them off. It’s actually really funny because it shows how inferior and how unsecure you guys are about your lack luster purchase decision. I guess I can’t really blame you for reacting that way because if I had to go through the drought form 2006 till 2009 I guess I would be happy to actually get a “promised” flood of games for 2009.
May 14th, 2009
kotaku.com/5253450/ps3-software-sales-spiked-almost-80-percent
The PS3 saw a 10% over last year rise also. I really think if they keep it up, they might be on to something.
CAD, Don’t take it too harshly. I would take the 360’s line up over the Wii’s anytime.
May 14th, 2009
“Our nuts are big enough that we don’t need to show them off.”…says the man who always seems to write a thesis for answers.

May 14th, 2009
CAD
you are too funny. I was trying to list original IPs coming from both Sony and MS, of which i believe Sony to have more “original” IPs, not including Arcade titles…i was giving credit to BOTH companies…
The POINT of which is, RIGHT NOW, is the BEST TIME, for BOTH COMPANIES to be ABLE to release NEW AND ORIGINAL IPs…all i did was try to name the original titles off the top of my head…
I m not the one insecure about my purchase decision…is it that you are a bit upset at your lackluster year so far? <–hey i don’t know, thats why im asking you…i simply was trying to point out, i want more original IPs from both companies but you had to derail my original point…no sir…
It is YOU who is insecure…you turned my post of wanting more original IPs from BOTH companies, because right now in their life cycles its the best time as i believe developers are finally getting the hang of the systems, have set their game engines, and thus development costs are lowered, so they able to RISK more on an original IP…into another “oh you sony boys always compare lists..look my balls are bigger…”
You know what CAD, you seem to love to talk about your balls and such quite a bit often…insecure much around that area are you now? Because, i don’t quite understand why you would want to “impress” a bunch of dudes of your ball size….but hey, if you swing that way, thats okay, i prefer the attention of females instead of male, but hey whatever rocks your world CAD….
Again, i was trying to point out that NOW and next year are GREAT times for BOTH MS and SONY to release original IPs, of which, i believe Sony has more exclusives of, NOT saying MS has NONE, just, IMO, Sony has more “true” exclusives i cannot get anywhere else other than a Sony console, whereas MS original IPs are not tied to the 360…case in point Mass Effect…i can get that on PC…
Again for you CAD: IM NOT SAYING MS has no original IPs…they do..its just i can get SOME, on another platform other than the 360, whereas Sony’s exclusives…can only be played on a Sony console…
May 14th, 2009
Also… I forgot to point out, that Sony is predicting a 30% increase in PS3 sales. This isn’t the typical “year of the PS 3″ stuff either, they actually made there predictions to there stock holders. So this is a serious estimate.
My guess is that they are expecting a sales spike from the new slim model and probably a price cut.
May 14th, 2009
In other news..Sony as a company is predicting a 1.15 billion dollar loss…ouch!
I believe that is because of a stronger yen and a weak ass dollar…on top of the economic recession…ouch!
And yet in other news, Intel getting sued by the EU for 1.6 Billion Dollars…..OUCH!<—what funny is this broke the previous record of a company being fined…held by none other than Microsoft….it actually started as a i believe a $300-$400 million dollars and went up to $1billion because Microsoft refused to conform to the EUs standards…they not only conformed but paid…
Crazy amount of cash being flung around!
May 14th, 2009
Harry,
First of all, I was comparing the visuals of the two games, since they’re both going for a similar “spooky yet realistic” look.
Second of all, I was mostly joking.
-Arvis
May 14th, 2009
EU is just a bunch of corrupt ass holes looking for a free payday.
(the Government not the people)
Bunch of retards.
May 14th, 2009
The EU isn’t corrupt, they’ve just figured out how to raise funds in a credit crunch…just steal it from shareholders.
May 14th, 2009
ncaissie
WTF are you on about?
CAD
Quite right.
The whole game list BS is hilarious.
I’ve bought 22 Xbox games in the 6 mths I’ve had it.
I dare anyone to list the average attach rate per each console.
I couldn’t give a f*ck if Xbox has more or less 1st party games coming this year, there are hundreds of the b*ggers out there to buy.
May 14th, 2009
Intel got caught trying to rig the market so as to rip off the customer and benefit themselves.
F*ck them.
Rock on EU.
If ever there was a case of teh EU doing what it is supposed to do (look after the interests of the EU public) this is it.
What sort of moron imagines leaving everything to the biggest corps to fix is a good idea?
May 14th, 2009
Happy and CAD
Your posts are proof that you guys try to turn everything said into a “My MS balls are bigger than your Sony balls…”
No one was comparing a games list….a list was mentioned on the quality 1st party original IPs out there…it was one sided being that, hmm i don’t own a 360, and i own a PS3….no one said, our list is bigger than yours…all that was mentioned was a list of original IPs off the top of my head…
Now, if you take that as an attack, well, that just solidifies the fact that it is indeed you guys are insecure about your purchase, as evidenced by your constant bringing up the case of a “games list”….do you guys even read what is posted?
My post was meant as a reason as to why this generation is going to last longer than the 2010 time frame….for both consoles…
Happy…agreed with the EU, as is the reason i posted the information…freaking Intel…but MS was just recently charged with doing the same thing…..
“The whole game list BS is hilarious.
I’ve bought 22 Xbox games in the 6 mths I’ve had it.
I dare anyone to list the average attach rate per each console. ”
It is hilarious…that you two keep bringing that up, when no list was being directly compared…I’ve bought 24 since last December…whooppdidooo?!! Good for me right?

You replied to CAD not happy, silly
May 14th, 2009
I have way too many games… I try to limit myself to one or so a month.. that’s console, not including hand held… so I have about 22 PS3 disc based games… 22x$65 = I need to consider trying GameFly out.
May 14th, 2009
jojo29
Hilarious.
When those daft little lists get thrown around you choose to come in & comment on those of us who say they don’t give a damn about the lists.
Even more oddly you then say that by saying we don’t give a damn we must be playing the pi$$iing game.
Unreal.
May 14th, 2009
Because no one was comparing games list…i was listing the original IPs out…and only want MORE original IPs….and the cycle we are in in this CURRENT gen, would allow MORE original IPs, now if we were to switch to a new generation of consoles, original IPs get put back in light of resused/sequels<=== THIS is all i was saying…
Just because there was a list doesn’t mean it was a pissing contest..of which you and CAD seem to love to watch and comment on pissing contests…where there was none.
“Unreal” indeed…
May 14th, 2009
CAD & Happy,
I have some news that I want you to hear from me, before you read it somewhere else. Are you sitting down? Good.
Lost Planet 2… has been confirmed for PS3!
It’s funny, when I was watching the preview I said to myself, “Wow! That’s the best graphics done on the 360 to date.” Now I wonder if the trailer was indeed the 360 build…
May 14th, 2009
FREE PSN GAME YO!
Rag Doll Kung foo… download it… then play it with me…
May 14th, 2009
jojo29
Actually my comment was (as it says) aimed at CAD, not you.
Ivan was the first to actually mention lists (and we all have suffered his/her tedious screeds many times) though mercifully this time without actually producing one to whizz past this time.
Barnabe
Sorry to burst your bubble but I really couldn’t care any less.
I don’t know the game and so tales that that particular game is coming out on PS3 mean nothing to me.
May 14th, 2009
Happy, I didn’t play the first one, but check out the trailer on youtube. It looks pretty good. The reason I mentioned it because it was one of the 360s expected exclusives.
DWH, Rag Doll Kung Fu kind of sucks. It’s cool that they gave it out for free, but I would be pretty pissed if I paid for it.
May 14th, 2009
BLASPHEMY! barnabe… nothing free EVAR sucks… I wish it had online multiplayer… does play like a decent game… couldve been huge…
I bought Bionic Rearmed… damn piece of shit has no trophy…
May 15th, 2009
lol yeah, they had the developer of Rearmed on the PS Blog. He mentioned that they wanted to do trophies, but had to divert there resources to the new Bionic Commando… needless to say, the community there tore him a new one. I liked the demo, and at $5 it seems pretty reasonable.
I was amazed the Rag Doll only had local multiplayer. Some of the different game modes like the fish one were kind of ok… but it kind of seemed like a $5 game at best. I think there were charging $10 for it if I remember correctly.
May 16th, 2009
Admittedly not as entertaining as the KZ2 target video years ago Arvis.
May 17th, 2009
@ barnabe,
Can you please tell me where you had this ‘confirmed’ news? I did a google search and could only find a paragraph from some guy at the Official Playstation Magazine saying it’s coming on PS3, nothing from Capcom, which really should be taken with a grain of salt. The only quote I could find from Capcom was that they were making the game for one platform (360).
If you could clarify this it would be greatly appreciated.
May 17th, 2009
“grain of salt”?!
I’d go the whole sack before i believed a word on this sort of tale from the likes of the ‘Official Playstation Mag’.
Bl*ody hell, talk about laughably unreliable & highly partial sourcing.
…..or are you going to tell us you accept anything an Xbox fanzine would say on any given subject as Gospel, Barnabe?
May 17th, 2009
Happy,
I think we might add this to Barnabe’s other idiotic quotes such as;
Cnet is owned by Microsoft
Too Human was released in 2009
… Along with all the other trolling comments that he tries to make….
May 18th, 2009
Happy, are you saying OPM is a “fanzine?”
As much as you and I disagree, I don’t think you could be more wrong about anything than you are about this. It is impossible to convey how off your thinking is on this issue. Talk about “laughably unreliable & highly partial…”
-Arvis
May 18th, 2009
Harry, ask and you shall receive.
Lost planet 2:
psxextreme.com/ps3-news/5139.html
CNET is actually owned by CBS Interactive. CBS has partnered with M$ in the past, so they have a vested interest in the companies success.
To name a few media companies outright owned by MS: NBC & MSNBC
May 18th, 2009
And CBS has partnered with Sony in the past, so what? Does this mean Sony is actually owned by Microsoft now (I mean besides current gen console hardware sales and all).
Regardless, even taking your argument for granted, it would seem kind of counterproductive to give the competition’s console a higher review, don’t you think?
Even if this was true it would be like a Microsoft version of David Manning and so transparent it would have been exposed by now.
Last I checked, NBC & MSNBC is “outright owned” by GE, not Microsoft.
BTW, “PSXextreme.com” sounds like a very non-biased and reputable source site (not).
