Fallout 3 DLC gives PS3 hope for GTA IV DLC
News broke recently around the Web about Bethesda’s plans to bring the former Xbox 360 exclusive DLC over to the PS3 some time next month. There has been a great deal of speculation and controversy not only around the Fallout 3 DLC but around the exclusivity of the GTA IV DLC as well. The announcement regarding Fallout 3 DLC has confirmed one thing: the best a manufacturer can do in this multiplatform generation is pay for timed exclusivity.
Near the beginning of the month I speculated that Fallout 3 DLC would come to the PS3 because of the listing for the new Point Lookout DLC. Considering that the company only announced three exclusive DLCs for the Xbox 360, it made perfect sense to me that it would eventually come out on the PS3.
If you read my previous story here you can see that some of the folks were arguing that Microsoft would shell out as much money needed to keep the DLC Xbox 360 exclusive. In the end there is no ignoring the simple fact that the PS3 has a userbase that is greater then any check Microsoft compensate for.
Believe it or not, I actually speculated that the PS3 would receive the DLC for Fallout 3 as early as January of this year. The reason I gave was quite simple – it made absolutely no sense for Bethesda to implement an artificial barrier for the PS3 version (read here for more details). Also, it made no sense to make Broken Steel unavailable for the PS3 owners as it ties up a major plot in the main game.
I was surprised to see an email from the “Lunch Bethesda” crew today revealing plans to bring the former Xbox 360 exclusive DLC over to the PS3. The one thing Bethesda has shown me today is that it is nearly impossible to tie up another company’s IP, especially if it is a proven AAA title. That is why this makes the DLC for the super-AAA, Grand Theft Auto IV coming over to the PS3 even more likely.
Even Sony Computer Entertainment UK director Ray Maguire made a remark that has raised many eye brows. In reference to GTA IV DLC, Maquire stated, “One thing to remember, nothing is ever exclusive.” Also, don’t forget the story from PSW Magazine that stated that the GTA IV DLC would be coming out on the PS3 during the summer time.
Exclusivity is a fading practice, which is clearly evident from Final Fantasy XIII, Bioshock and now the DLC for Fallout 3. The biggest bet going around the Web is whether EPIC Games will make Gears of War 3 multiplatform or keep it exclusive to the Xbox 360. Microsoft announced a two game deal with EPIC in 2007, but it is unknown if a new deal was ever struck. One thing to keep in mind is – would EPIC tie up one of their biggest franchises knowing what they know today (or even after Gears 1 and 2)?

Who was “arguing that Microsoft would shell out as much money needed to keep the DLC Xbox 360 exclusive”?
It makes sense that they wouldn’t want to lose DLC exclusivity, but there is a point of diminishing returns after you’ve already gained a million plus lead on a title due to a few timed exclusive DLC’s.
Anyway, this is great news all around, Microsoft gets the little lead it wants, and it let’s Fallout 3 fans who happen to be PS3 only owners experience the rest of the story with Broken Steel. This is bound to be a hit with the 2 million plus PS3 owners who bought the title, and Bethesda will still make a pretty penny even after paying Sony their download fees.
May 20th, 2009
Sorry, that should read 1 million plus PS3 owners who bought the title. 2 million plus would be 360 owners.
May 20th, 2009
Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP to Gears?
May 20th, 2009
NO THEY DONT! jeez… Look… Bungie Owns Halo… Epic Owns Gears… MS publishes Gears… and I think I heard from someone here that MS owns Halo but doesnt own Bungie anymore…
whatever…. Im taking a cold shower… this news has gotten me very horny…
May 20th, 2009
Oh wait, no, they don’t.
Anyway, Gears 3 wouldn’t do any good on PS3, going by the consensus here, most PS3 owners think it sucks.
May 20th, 2009
dwh, if Bungie owned Halo, how come Ensemble made Halo Wars?
May 20th, 2009
Xbox 360 is all about DLC and timed exclusive deals. While PLAYSTATION 3 is about everything from DLC to exclusives but we get almost every Xbox 360 exclusive but Xbox 360 doesn’t get ours because they are wholly own by Sony. Microsoft is killing themselves while SCEA is buying new studios to make exclusives and making new IPs Microsoft Game Studio is buying DLC and timed exclusives wow that’s horrible business. And i believe Gears of War 3 will be on PLAYSTATION 3. I won’t buy it I’ll be too busy waiting for Resistance 3 and Killzone 3 to launch.
May 20th, 2009
How can someone be busy waiting? What exactly do you do to yourself while you are waiti…… err… actually no please don’t answer that.

Worst come back ever. Have you ever went to school doesn’t show. I know that comment hurt you so you made a dumb remark.
May 20th, 2009
“Have you ever went to school doesn’t show.” –> HAHAAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHA I guess you weren’t paying attention during English classes then.
Ok i’ll bite, so what are you doing when you are busy waiting for something?

We all know what Ivan does with himself.
No need to discuss it here.

May 20th, 2009
He already thinks PS3 graphics are better than 360. How much blinder is he going to get?
May 20th, 2009
haha true
May 20th, 2009
They are better idiot. No games can top these in graphics. This just a small list.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Killzone 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
A must see video

so killzone 2 graphics AINT better than gears 2??? dont get me wrong i luv the 360, i fink gears 2 is 1 of the best shooters eva, but the graphics award go 2 K2, cmon atleast admit that much? lol
May 20th, 2009
I think it is a pretty shitty blanket assumption that PS3 owners wouldn’t want Gears3. I would be a day one purchaser of gears 3 were it released for the ps3.
May 20th, 2009
And now there are rumours that Tony Hawk’s Ride is now to be an Xbox 360 exclusive in the UK…
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/05/20/ps3-loses-tony-hawk-ride/
No great loss in my opinion (if this turns out to be true) – I don’t think this is the innovation the series needed, but further proof that Microsoft’s sticking to the same old game plan.
May 20th, 2009
if you think 360 has better graphics ur out of this world.
just mention a 360 game that can graphically match this titles:
-Uncharted 1 & 2 (Uncharted 2 is the best looking game on the planet)
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Killzone 2
-Heave Rain
- “The new Trico project”
-Gran Turismo 5
…now lets look at particular genre:
-Ratchet & Clank (best looking animated game)
-MLB The show (best looking baseball game)
-Killzone 2 (best looking shooter)
-Gran Turismo (best looking racing game)
-inFamous (best looking sandbox game)
-Uncharted (best looking 3rd person game)
-Metal Gear Solid (best looking action game)
and I wont even mention God of War III because we haven’t seen much of it yet.
so get your facts straight — harry & me _

OK, another review for Infamous is in people. Joystiq said, and I quote, its “The greatest superhero game I’ve ever played.”…. daaaaamn!!
joystiq.com/2009/05/20/joystiq-review-infamous/#thankYou
May 20th, 2009
Roca, good list. Ratchet and Clank gets overlooked a lot. There hasn’t been a platformer since, that captures the Pixar movie come to life like that game did.
May 20th, 2009
I think it was someone in here… carl prolly who gave me a link showing that MS owned Halo…
but for Halo Wars.. I saw a couple of the previews and Ensemble went to MS and Bungie with the project… THEY wanted to create a RTS in the Halo Universe… now this is PR speak… so it could be false…
May 20th, 2009
also… idiots hate Gears… just like 360 idiots who hate MGS 4… they are both good games at the core… theres no objective or subjective way of looking at them and proving that they are bad games… they are both good games… whoever doesnt agree is stupid…
simple…
May 20th, 2009
Yeah, Gears is really good. Halo on the other hand was just ok, but got really over hyped.

@ darkwhitehair
good article…they all know but they dont want to admit it. the 360 2 year life span is over. no more good games. its maxed out. error E74 is because it cannot handle the NXE
May 20th, 2009
NO NO!! NO TALKING! I WANT SOME FUCKING LISTS! Only lists will prove that we have won… we have the better system… Wii is for the mentally challenged… and the 360 is for people who want to LOSE!!
Ohh yeah…
May 20th, 2009
It was only a matter of time till the dlc came over.
Hopefully they can get the xtra Tomb raider missions that MS had cut from the PS version of the game.
May 20th, 2009
My goodness, you’ve been fooled by the smoke and mirror graphics of the PS3. Here is the secret Boy. Get rid of as much environment as possible so the memory isn’t over worked. and if it does have environment then they drop the resolution. I find very little texture on walls and the colours are limited to about 3-4 colours max. Then add lots of gloss and pretty it up. All this takes about 3-4 Year to develope and voulya you get the year 2009.
May 20th, 2009
Cad,
Uncharted, Ratchet, GT5: Prologue, Little Big Planet, & MGS4 (just to name a few) all say “hi”.
May 20th, 2009
OMG! AGAIN CAD DAZZLES US WITH HIS BRILLIANCE!
Clearly all those who claimed that MGS 4 and Killzone 2 had some of the best graphics in consoles…. THEY WERE WRONG! ONLY CAD IS RIGHT!
OBVIOUSLY CAD cannot be bothered to read the venturebeat article… BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL WRONG!
May 20th, 2009
I’m really excited to see games like Trico, White Knight, and Heavy Rain. How many FPS do we really need? Do we really need a new COD & Guitar Hero every few months? It’s sad that so few games are willing to break the mold and do something different.
May 20th, 2009
uhh Modern Warfare 2 is coming out soon… so shhhh
May 20th, 2009
CAD is actually right.
Continuing with the smoke and mirrors, early in PS3 development Sony actually decided that the Cell was going to cost way too much, so in public they pretended to be R&D’ing the Cell.
In reality however they use a hamster on a wheel for processing, they’ve just lubed the wheel REALLY well so that you can’t hear it. Ever wonder WHY the cell cost so damn much? Ever tried to feed 10+ Million hamsters? Hamster feed is not cheap. Throw in a chalk board and sticks of chalk (he has to have somewhere of doing the mathmatics after all) it costs alot of money…
May 20th, 2009
well folks… the secret is out… clearly the hamster wheel powered PS3 is no match for the 360… we have all been wrong people…
May 20th, 2009
If trees aren’t appropriate to the game – then who cares? Helghast for example, wouldn’t have trees or plant life. It’d have awesome war like atmosphere though. You don’t add fireworks and whistles to a wheelchair just to make it look cooler.
Regardless, Uncharted and MGS4 did a pretty good job with their environments.
I admit the wheelchair comment doesn’t really tie up what I meant, but it gave me a great mental image.
May 20th, 2009
There is nothing wrong with smoke and mirrors anyway. That is what animation, graphics and visual effects are all about.

@ CAD
Jojo29 – “CAD, he did say exclusives…for this year and the upcoming year….most of what you listed is multi-plat…try again pleaseâ€
somebody knows how to read. im glad you find a bunch of old crap. but we want to see your 360 list for 2009. come on!!! its not that hard for a PS3 owner to list 15 of them of the top of their head. CAD the “new fish†is waiting for you to back up ur comments. next to bring a list of stupid games nobody plays. what i asked for was a list of 10 “AAA games†for the 360 that are coming out this year.
…..Im still waiting man, If your going to call me NEW FISH, you better act like the OLD FISH because right now ur the one who seem out of place and struggling to find the 10 games to back up your comments.
May 21st, 2009
If CAD were a fish… I think he would be a tuna. Don’t know why exactly, but I’m getting a tuna vibe.

DWH, you’re as hilarious as ever.
@Barnabe: I think if CAD were a fish, he would be a COD.
-Arvis
May 21st, 2009
I think CAD is a fish. He is one of those Suckers that bought a 360!
May 21st, 2009
Roco’s right.
All it needs to be is a “laptop HDD” to be compatible.
We all know CAD would be a bearded clam.
May 21st, 2009
OMG! COD. That’s brilliant. Ok, I change my answer. CAD would be a COD.
May 21st, 2009
@ Roca
CAD, he did say exclusives…for this year and the upcoming year….most of what you listed is multi-plat…try again please
You see this is what I’m getting at. While some decent games have finally arrived in 2009 that you have been waiting for since 2007 then pushed back to 2008 then finally a promise of games in 2009, 360 owners have always been getting game and were not focused on what might come. I’m going to laugh my ass off at the end of this year when half of what is promised to you doesn’t come out. Then you’ll be saying it’s all about 2010. I don’t know anyone who has even played a fraction of the list I just dropped. I know I haven’t and there is plenty coming and plenty to go back to. So you focus on 2009 and I’ll focus on the entire 360 Library. I don’t need to be excited about a perticular year or what exclusive you have in 2009 vs what 360 releases in 2009 because the entire exclusive list makes your 2009 list a complete joke. Besides what has been released for the PS3 in 2009. Killzone and MLB the Show. And really MLB The show is not a game people care about so your left with Killzone. Meanwhile the 360’s 2009 exclusive release consist of:
Star Trek: D-A-C (Arcade)
Fable II: See the Future (DLC)
Battlestations: Pacific
Space Invaders Extreme (Arcade)
Arkanoid Live! (Arcade)
Fallout 3: Broken Steel (DLC)
GTA: The Lost and the Damned (DLC)
Ninja Blade
Banjo-Tooie (Arcade)
Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram (Arcade)
Lode Runner (Arcade)
Velvet Assassin
Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, The (Arcade)
Uno Rush (Arcade)
Fallout 3: The Pitt (DLC)
Peggle (Arcade)
Crystal Defenders (Arcade)
Halo Wars
Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage (DLC)
Hasbro Family Game Night: Battleship (Arcade)
Hasbro Family Game Night: Connect Four (Arcade)
Hasbro Family Game Night: Scrabble (Arcade)
Hasbro Family Game Night: Sorry! (Arcade)
Hasbro Family Game Night: Yahtzee (Arcade)
NCAA Basketball 09: March Madness Edition
Race Pro
Raiden Fighters Aces
R-Type Dimensions
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Stoked
Tomb Raider Underworld: Beneath the Ashes (DLC)
Tomb Raider Underworld: Lara’s Shadow (DLC)
WSC Real 09: World Snooker Championship
Rez HD (Arcade)
1 vs 100
Maw, The (Arcade)
Some games are good and some are bad but just look at the selection. Plus you have to realise that some of the games have online which extend the play for months plus the DLC that may come with some games. Halo 3 is still the #1 online game being played on LIVE. So really cut the 2009 nonsense because it really makes no sense.
May 21st, 2009
And PS3 people are basically and scavenger that that you can find in the sea. Scavengers because all you guys get is scraps. Here’s to the PS3rd school of scavenger.

I know everyone is all jazzed up for the Infamous demo being released today… but don’t forget my idol Hideo Kojima countdown ends TODAY! And spoiler… it is has been confirmed as a PS3 exclusive (Carl, see joystiq for reference).
MGS5 on PS3 only bitches!!!!!!
May 21st, 2009
@ CAD AKA Tuna Fish
Looking at your list make me feel sad about 360 owner. its really sad that thats all you can come up with.
I asked “AAA games” and this what you give me…REALLY!!!? (and dont start with DLC because I can list about 50 DLC just for PS3- just name a few (Buzz TV, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, LBP, PAIN, MGS4, Mirrors Edge, PixelJunk Monster and Eden, etc)
I admire your guts though, I ask for good games and all you give me is crap:
Took you 2-3 days come come up with: (leave DLC and Arcade games out)
1. Stoked
2. Raiden Fighters Aces
3. Race Pro
4. Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
5. Velvet Assassin
6. Battlestations: Pacific
7. Ninja Blade
8. Halo Wars
9. R-Type Dimensions
10. Star Ocean: The Last Hope
How many of these games you or any 360 owner are going to buy? NONE of them right!! The Wii has better games than those 10.
of the top of my head look at 10 PS3 games coming this year:
1. Killzone 2
2. inFAMOUS
3. Heavy Rain
4. MAG
5. White Knight Chronicles
6. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crank in Time
7. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
8. Demon’s Souls
9. Cavia
10. Last Rebellion
I can keep going, but 10 is enough just to be fair.
CAD if can back up ur comments dont waste everybody’s time and admit the PS3 has better games than your old 360.
(all those game in my list bring something NEW to the gaming world starting with Killzone. you can figure out the rest on ur own)
May 21st, 2009
Barnabe, you going to keep us updated on this countdown? How many more hours until the secret is unveiled? I’m predicting Play-As-Raiden DLC for MGS4…
-Arvis
May 21st, 2009

May 21st, 2009
Last Rebellion? cavia? sly 4? syphon filter? twisted metal? Uncharted waters?
dude… that list is so awesome… I dont think even Sony knows that they have all those games coming up… BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED YET!
May 21st, 2009
Roca
Well Like I siad befor lets see how many actually come out. Sony loves to dangel carrots in front of you guy and trust me the rest have learned their lesson but it looks like your about to learn your lesson about the on-going promises of Sony. You can exclude the Arcade tiltes but the truth is that it’s all apart of our experience including the XNA games which I would have to do some homework on. Oh and don’t get bossey about I took 2-3 days to give you a list. I never intended to even look them up but every one in a while a new shrimp like you comes along filled with the hope and promises that Sony gives you and since you asked hard enough I gave it to you since your too lazy to look past Gears and Halo.
May 21st, 2009
The only game that intrest me is Gods of war. Killzone use to be on that list but after trying it I’ll pass.
May 21st, 2009
@ DWH
are you sure…Google these 3 games for me. and you will they have been announced already
Last Rebellion
Cavia
Uncharted Warter Online (its already out in japan)
“Sly 4″ is in a billboard in the Infamous demo.
And go buy “Twisted Metal: Head On” for the PS2 there is a sign which stated “Twisted Metal coming to PS3″
May 21st, 2009
@ CAD
Still no games Tuna Fish.
May 21st, 2009
uhh CAD… dont bother buying a PS3… seriously… we dont want you… I cant bear to hear you say anything about God of War… I think… I may actually start stalking you if you start bad mouthing it…
just… just leave it alone…

ROCA
OK so since you like to talk about games yet to come and mix them in with the game released in 2009, I’ll do that for you. I hope you realized that I have only mentioned game that are released. Here are the rules for the list I’m about to drop:
Eligibility Rules
1. These are “Console Exclusives.” If a game appears on the PC and only one console, it’s exclusive to that console. Also, due to the limitations of the DS and PSP, any game that appears on only one console and a handheld is considered exclusive to that console.
While the list is made up of “Console Exclusives,” starred games (*) are titles that are also available on the PC.
2. Downloadable games and content packs will not be included. Only disc-based games qualify for inclusion.
3. “Next-Gen Exclusives” are counted, but noted with a hash mark (#). For example, the PS2 game Rygar: The Legendary Adventure is being remade on the Wii as Rygar: The Battle of Argus.
4. No “fantasy games.” These lists only include formally announced games by a publisher and have at least a working title.
5. The list focuses on North American games. Import titles that are likely to come to America, but are officially unannounced, are still counted. Future updates may drop these titles if no American release date is announced.

Every year starts like this and then 360 takes it in the end. So maybe 2011 might me the Year of the PS3rd.

Played iNFamous demo. Demo impression = The best bit for me was the comic book style cinematics. Appeal was lost for me gameplay wise very quickly.
Though whatever Barnabe is counting down to sounds awesome.

The golden goose and the achilles heel of the Xbox 360 is its ability to effortlessly accept ports of PC titles. This creates a boon for Microsoft’s console by allowing it to host games that would be too much of a hassle to bring to the PS3 and Wii. However, this also hurts the console because these games are available in near identical form on the PC. While the PC may have become a niche platform in recent years, it still has a lot of passionate users who are dedicated to finding quality releases.
This leaves the Xbox 360 in the somewhat strange position of having more console exclusives, but fewer full exclusives. This is great for Xbox 360 owners without a hardcore gaming rig, but now so great for those that have an Xbox 360 in addition to souped up PC, as the platforms are almost identical.
However, that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from attracting a variety of nifty titles for 2009 including a quartet of MMORPGs in the form of Huxley, APB, Age of Conan and Champions Online. This is in addition to another Square-Enix RPG (Star Ocean 4) and the first Onechanbara game to come to America (Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad). Is a game where girls in bikinis slice up zombies with swords a potential blockbuster? Of course not, but it’s these kind of niche, second-tier games (like fellow Xbox 360 exclusive Earth Defense Force 2017) that gamers remember in the future.
And then there’s Halo. With three Halo projects on tap for 2009, gamers may be Master Chiefed out by the end of the year, but it’s unlikely that all of them will be released this year. In fact, I would be hugely shocked if Peter Jackson’s Halo: Chronicles makes it out this year and a part of me thinks it will never be released.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 also has a few other exclusive aces up their sleeve that they could play in 2009. BioWare has begun prepping Mass Effect 2 for public display (it’ll be at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference) even though it has yet to be officially announced. With Star Wars: The Old Republic still a year or two away, Mass Effect 2 could be BioWare’s next big release, and there’s been no hint of a PS3 version.
It’s also important to note that this list is just a portion of the exclusives the Xbox 360 will have available in 2009. As is Microsoft’s custom, a good portion of their (and their third party’s) 2009 releases have yet to be announced. As Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s Director of Xbox Product Management, recently told Eurogamer: “I can safely say that if you’re an Xbox 360 owner today, you will end 2009 with a whole slew of new features, new content, new partners, new games that today you don’t know about.”
Finally, no analysis of Xbox 360 exclusives should end without a mention of the Grand Theft Auto IV episodes, particularly Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned. While this list does not count downloadable episodes, I believe that Rockstar will collect both episodes in a retail release for Christmas.

As is usually the case, the PS3 has the fewest exclusives by a wide margin. First party games also continue to make up a high percentage of its exclusives. In fact, only four titles aren’t being published by Sony: LA Noire (Rockstar), Warriors Orochi Z (Koei), Cross Edge (NIS America) and Quantum Theory (Tecmo). And rumors abound that LA Noire is going multiplatform. But Sony itself has a lot of fingers in a lot of different genres and plans to bring a lot of great exclusives to the PS3 in 2009.
First and foremost are the next iterations of the God of War, Killzone and Uncharted franchises. There is also the impressive Heavy Rain and intense Infamous. But after that, things get a bit shakey. A title card at the end of Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty revealed that more Ratchet & Clank will be coming in 2009, but will it be another downloadable game or a longer, disc-based title? White Knight Chronicles, The Agency and DC Universe Online could all slip to 2010. And the complete lack of information about Zipper’s MAG: Massive Action Game and the next Twisted Metal do not bode well for a 2009 release for either of those games either. With Sony’s penchant for announcing their release schedule years in advance, it’s unlikely they have any more surprises in store for the PS3 in 2009.
And then there’s Afrika, the real Gran Turismo 5 and the untitled Team Ico game, three big games that could be released in 2009, but likely won’t (and again, are all published by Sony). As time goes on, it looks more and more likely that Afrika will never leave Japan. There were rumors that the game would be published in America as National Geographic: Africa after the magazine announced they would be publishing games, but that looks like it was more wishful thinking and speculation than anything concrete. Gran Turismo 5 would be a nice 2009 release seeing as how the “taste” of GT5, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released over eight months ago, but Polyphany Digital has said a 2010 release is more likely. Finally, PS3 owners are excited over the next Team Ico game, but right now it has no title, no release date and it doesn’t even officially exist. All we have is a single screenshot of a rope going down a hole.
Almost seems like a metaphor for Sony’s tumble into third place in market share and number of exclusives.
May 21st, 2009
Unsurprisingly, the Wii will see the most exclusive releases in 2009. This is understandable as there will be plenty of games available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 that won’t be on the Wii (anti-exclusives, you could say). But that’s not to say the Wii’s large quantity of exclusives comes from castoffs and shovelware (it’s important to note this list does not include any of the shovelware that’s been announced for the Wii). Instead, I say 2009 is the year that third parties finally get a handle on the Wii and start producing good games that even hardcore gamers can’t ignore. Just look at some of the titles that are coming…
With a storyline inspired by The Running Man and a visual style that looks like Sin City on steroids, MadWorld looks like it will break the M For Mature barrier in a way that Manhunt 2 could only dream of. But first, it will have to fend off two other Sega releases, House of the Dead: Overkill (the first original HOTD console game ever) and High Voltage Software’s first person shooter The Conduit.
There is also a trio of titles coming from distinctly Japanese developers including Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (the company also assures us that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers is still in production), Namco Bandai’s Fragile and Fatal Frame IV. I know Fatal Frame IV doesn’t have an American release date yet, but one analyst who wishes to remain nameless has said that the game will be released in the US in 2009.
Even the games that don’t seem like they’d be much more than quick cash-ins could hold some promise. For example, what would you say to a Smash Bros.-style game starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Yawn. Now how about a Smash Bros.-style games starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that’s being developed by former members of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Dead or Alive teams? Where do I pre-order?
Nintendo also has plenty of games to augment the third party releases and they weren’t kidding when they said they had several hardcore titles in development. The Punch-Out!! series will return for the first time in over a decade. Treasure has been tasked with making Sin & Punishment 2, a sequel to one of the greatest rail shooters ever. Shigeru Miyamoto has put the productivity software of Wii Fit and Wii Music behind him to start work on Pikmin 3. And that’s not even counting the New Play Control! Wiimakes and the new Mario and Zelda games that are in production. They don’t have release dates yet, but the smart money says a new Zelda game will be released in 2009.
Final Thoughts
So that’s where we stand today, but that’s not to say that things won’t change between now and December 31. Between the Game Developer’s Conference, E3, Comic-Con, the Penny Arcade Expo and the Tokyo Game Show, there’s still a lot of time for more exclusives to be announced. Beyond Halo, Microsoft has kept their 2009 cards pretty close to the chest. It stands to reason that something else will be announced. Rumors abound that Nintendo has a few other games in secret development as well.
Whatever happens, the Wii is unlikely to be dethroned as the undisputed king of exclusive titles anytime soon.

Looks like I might have to get a Wii. Did I say that!!!

OK… so you all see the 5, right?
-Kojima is running an add in a PS3/PSP exclusive magazine. So we know it is MGS5 on PS3.
-”The next Metal Gear is…” Raiden means storm in Japanese.
-Kojima is set to make a speech on the day of M$’s E3 conference. So he could be confirming a 360 release, or it could be to counter M$’s show. I actually think there will most likely be a 360 version. So this is good news for everyone then.
3 more hours!!
May 21st, 2009
I know but you boy Roca pushed me into it. I really don’t like doing it as they’re big enough in the first place and it takes a bit of time to pull em out and then put it away but Roca opened his mouth so I had to drop my nuts in there so he could have a taste. I made sure they were sweaty and salty so he would always remember the taste.
May 21st, 2009
Actually I think they may have tasted like Tuna since he seems to have the taste of Tuna Fish in his mouth.
May 21st, 2009
CAD – White Knight has been translated into english ages ago. Look for it in the Fall.
Demon’s Souls is a third party exclusive, which has already received rave reviews. The only negative review came from Famitsu’s casual reviewer… which says something in itself. Look for that in the Fall also.
The PS Blog has already released quite a but of info on MAG. Again, look for it in the Fall. This will be the paramount of the FPS online experience.
Star Ocean 4.. average, but mostly likely a timed exclusive.
bikini Squad… Really? Really? You should read some reviews and watch some game play footage. Spoiler: It’s laughably bad! You really should have used Ninja Blade instead. That game actually looks decent.
I could keep correcting the rest of you post, but I think you get the point.
May 21st, 2009
Jeez, so as well as stealing lists from other sites, we’re now stealing entire articles?
Next time, just say ‘goto gamingtarget’ and view this 360/ps3/wii comparathon.
@Barnabe
Star ocean is fun man, its one of the few RPG’s I’m actually playing post game for the extra dungeons etc (I’m a big stickler for story and such, and usually post game = meh story, but this SO4 is fun to play without it).
May 21st, 2009
SW, glad to hear it. I am hoping that it does come to PS3. From what I’ve seen it kind of looks like hack and slash with an item wheel to do moves or something?
May 21st, 2009
oh my bad then
May 22nd, 2009
ok… So, a count down until a count down?… gay!

CAD: Although there was alot ‘you’ said that was questionable, this was the most glaringly wrong:
“Finally, PS3 owners are excited over the next Team Ico game, but right now it has no title, no release date and it doesn’t even officially exist. All we have is a single screenshot of a rope going down a hole.”
It’s currently called TRICO, and here’s a video of it.

@ CAD
you keep listing a whole bunch of CRAP.
10 “AAA GAMES” PLEASEE!! thats all I asked
I did not ask for the whole 2009 release list.
And FYI your PS3 list is not accurate.
also good job on the “Copy & Paste” there.
AND still WHERE IS THE LIST????????
May 22nd, 2009
Roca I gave you too many game to count. There are plenty of good game there and I don’t know what qualifies a AAA game and I’m sure your not the judge for AAA games. Hush your mouth before I shove some more Tuna in there.
May 22nd, 2009
Barnabee it obvious that the article was written some time ago. It was just an intresting read. If anything the Wii is kicking all of our asses.
May 22nd, 2009
@ CAD
took 4 days to come up with more crap.
Where are the good games. and you list is not accurate.
just to name a few. your missing Ratchet & Clank and Demon’s Soul on the PS3 and Mass Effect 2 for the 360.
Anyways ima help you out with the list of 10 “AAA Games” for the 360 coming this year. but first let me educate you.
“AAA Games ” means – a combination of Big budget, production values, good quality and High Expectations”
Here are a few for the 360 you give me the rest
1- Mass Effect 2
2- Alan Wake
3- Forza 3
4- and Let’s put Halo:ODST in there just to help you out (It’s an expansion so it really doesnt count)
Give me 6 more..(how many days it is going to take to get them???)
how sad is being a 360-only owner
May 22nd, 2009
Obviously you cannot comprehend the English Language so I cannot bother wiht you anymore I’m not going over the same non-sense again. It’s a well know fact that the 360 has more exclusives then the PS3 has and the Wii makes it look even stupider but I guess your the only one oblivious to this information. Enjoy 3rd place looser because the #’s speak for themselves. Now excuse me while I look back at games I have yet to play to and look forward to games to come and I’ll look forward to never talking to you again.
May 22nd, 2009
CAD, I just started reading the Wii article, you do realize that MadWorld, House of the Dead, Manhunt, and Cristal Chronicles all flopped hard, right? I would be amazed if The Conduit doesn’t suffer the same fate (but it will).
“New Play control” – is the practice of rehashing GameCube games, which is nothing to brag about.
PunchOut has been getting good reviews and might sell well, but it’s virtually a repeat of a SNES game. If offers one new character, no online play, and virtually the same graphics as the SNES version.
Yes – The Wii is beating both the 360 & PS3, but seriously take a look at what’s going on and tell me thats a good thing.
May 22nd, 2009
Yes CAD… none of us can comprehend the English Language… cept you… OH WHAT WOULD WE DO “WIHT”out you…
fucking retard
May 22nd, 2009
“Now excuse me while I … look forward to games to come…”
Not to fan the flames, but isn’t this the exact issue CAD failed to address during his pointless & embarrassing fanboy battle?

May 22nd, 2009
And Arvis you guys fail to realise that there is plenty of Exclusive Titles already lauched on the 360 but you guys will ignore that and talk only about 2009. It’s OK to be in Denial.
DWH
No one was talking to you go back to your corner. What is this? English Class. Thank you teacher for correcting me. Fuck off.
May 22nd, 2009
Arvis
Also don’t cut up my statement and make it your own. If your going to quote me quote me correctly.
May 22nd, 2009
You guys think things are bad now? Ha! Just wait until E3 hits. We are going to be knee deep in it for a while.
May 22nd, 2009
So CAD is allowed to instruct people to ‘LEARN TOOZ REED’ when they don’t understand his posts, but go forbid you try to correct him because this ‘AINTZ NO ENGLYSH CLASSZ’…
(I *may* have exaggerated a smidge)
May 22nd, 2009
It’s as palin a English but people want to pick at a few misspelled word. Big Deal!!! People want me to call out games for 2009 but that is impossible when Microsoft doesn’t even let the cat out the bag until their ready and I even gave 23 Games and yet this fool is still asking me for 10. I guess Roca can’t count. In Sony’s case they have to let the cat out the bag because you guys have been starving since launch. Really I’m happy for you guys because if I bought a $700 system I would be pissed if all it did was paly Bluray movies. It’s the trend that Microsft has been doing to focus on the games being released now and follow up later with more. At the end of 2007 MS owned it and then people said there was no lineup for 2008. Then in the end of 2008 MS owned it again and the same thing is said about 2009. So I’m not worried about what might come because there is more game play in the games released from MS because of the Online Play and the DLC that we have. Just look how desperate you are just to be receiving Fallout 3 DLC. I have not even touched that game yet. Plus all the 3rd Party Games why should I worry about 2009 and what Sony has when Gears of war is basically played every night. That game your cannot get tired of. It’s the sole reason I have not finished any of my games because as soon as you turn on the 360 everyone is messaging you to come play Gears. I cannot believe all this hate because I though Killzone was OK and Because I didn’t like the constant downloading the PS3 requires. If you guys like it fine with me but it’s something I will never put up with.
May 22nd, 2009
“This is great for Xbox 360 owners without a hardcore gaming rig”… that would be me. I’m sure PS3 owners wouldn’t turn down a great game just because it was on PC as well. Unless it was a bad port from pc…
“how sad is being a 360-only owner”
How sad it is to think only exclusives that haven’t even been released yet count.
May 22nd, 2009
Don’t make me boo in this thread too!

“How sad it is to think only exclusives that haven’t even been released yet count.”
at least we have games coming out. and you are excited about old games thats been released already because u have nothing to look foward to.
ooops I forgot Two Worlds 2 is coming out. maybe you get excited for that one.
May 27th, 2009
Don’t worry Roca, I think I might be able to find something to enjoy, even if only half of the 269 titles for 360 on the release date calendar scheduled for this year come out. That is only 40 more titles than the PS3 though… hmm, I guess the PS3 is finally catching up if we only have 40 more this year.
xbox360.ign.com/index/release.html
ps3.ign.com/index/release.html
Since we are talking RPG’s…
“Oops, I forgot” Two Worlds 1 is coming along with The Last Remnant to PS3 this year. “Maybe you get excited for” those two.
Seriously though, the RPG (my favorite genre) I am most excited about is Dragon Age, which we should both be able to enjoy. Please do tell me about Demon Souls when it comes out though, it does look interesting. And if you happen to have a Wii, tell me about Muramasa. (CarlB returns to Lost Odyssey)
