Girl gamers – great, except when your girlfriend is one
Gaming is as much a pastime for girls as it is boys these days. Where once being into video games was to be male and ever-so-slightly geeky, the whole family is now into games, including a fair proportion of females. Girl gamers are great, except when your girlfriend is one, spends more time gaming than you and, worst of all, kicks your ass.
Most male gamers love girl gamers. They’re something different, refreshing, a nice change of pace. How many times have you been playing your favorite game online against nearly all men when a girl joins in? It instantly changes everything, makes everyone up their game, and provides a focus for all the testosterone spilling around the place.
Many men love nothing more than spending a weekend playing video games, and nothing else. But their partners: wives or girlfriends (I know same-sex relationships exist but they don’t work for this story – sorry) have different ideas. A day of shopping, meeting the in-laws, going out for a meal, mowing the lawn, washing the car – these are all things invented for women to stop their menfolk being able to veg out in front of the TV and play games while drinking beer from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.
But there are that special breed of girlfriend or wife which are also into gaming. They were once a rare find but are now much more prevalent in number. If you can nab one of these God’s own creations you’re laughing. Or at least that’s what I thought when I met my girlfriend.
We’re both huge gamers, and more often than not share the same tastes in games. Which makes evenings and weekends good fun. Or at least it did until I brought Unreal Tournament 3 into both our lives. Now, my girlfriend is addicted to the damn game, plays online with randomers, and rarely lets me get a go on the game she previously had no interest in.
She has never liked first-person shooters but something about Unreal Tournament 3 appealed to her enough to force her to get good at the genre. She’s now so good she can hold her own against the best players online, and she kicks my ass on a regular basis.
The moral of the story is not to be so quick to get your girlfriend into gaming. Girl gamers are great in general terms but not so great when you live with one. And no, you can’t have her details.

My girlfriend has a 360, PS3 & Wii. I want to borrow the 360 and play Lost Odyssey. The only thing is that the game is so long, I would have to borrow it for at least a few weeks, which makes it hard.

Dave consider yourself lucky! You could have it like me. A girlfriend who hates my gaming. Will actually have the nerve to do things like stand in front of the TV when I’m 1 kill away from a perfect round of free for all in World at War! Someone who seems to accidently keep breaking my Xbox live headsets! Also it’s ok for her to spend $300 on her hair and shit every week it seems, but when I buy a $60 game once a month it’s fucking WWIII! My girlfriend is wildly addicted to Mario Kart, but since I am really really REALLY good at that game, she just ends up getting ticked off at me because I always win. If I let her win, she gets more ticked off.

The most ironic thing just happened. My girlfriend came home for her lunch break (I work nights) and hands me a bag. What is inside? Brand new copy of Infamous!
