E3 2009: Top 6 rumors round-up – Halo MMO, Trico and more
As E3 approaches it seems like there is a new rumor born every day. Some of the rumors have even been proven true within the past couple days like the PSP Go!. However, with Microsoft silent for most of the year there is some speculation that the company will be dropping a bombshell at E3 this year. There are a few crazy rumors flying around regarding Sony as well.
I thought it would be a good idea to try to list out some of the rumors before E3 to see if any of them were true. Some have already come to pass but there are a few that has many scratching their heads.
1) PS3 Price drop - This rumor has been in circulation for nearly a year and a half. I think that this will not be announced at E3 but at the Tokyo Show near the holiday timeframe along with the PS3 slim. There is another rumor that the PS3 slim will only be announced after the current PS3 stock at retailers has been depleted.
2) Halo MMO/New Project - Microsoft put up a job posting looking for a developer to work on a Halo universe project where everyone can play from their cell phone, PC and Xbox 360. About a month later Microsoft put up another job posting looking for a server engineer to work on a 300,000 player infrastructure project.

From Kojima’s teaser site
3) Metal Gear Solid 5 - Kojima has teased the rest of the world about a new Metal Gear game or games. Sony has already confirmed that there will be a MGS game heading towards the PSP. However, the teaser site hints at a Raiden centric Metal Gear game. I smell a new Metal Gear game announcement at E3 for the PS3 as well.
4) Trico Announcement - I predicted that this game would be announced for the past year before several trade show events. However, my prediction fell flat despite the fact that sources have revealed that the game was near completion. The leaked trailer of Trico actually turned out to be over a year old according to those who have seen it last year. I predict that Team ICO will definitely announce this game at E3.
5) PS3 Exclusive EPIC game - Rumors about a PS3 exclusive game developed by EPIC Games (Gears of War creators) have been doing the rounds. The game is supposed to be an action-horror game. Examiner stated that this was confirmed by a credible source. EveryEye Network recently put up a story alleging that they received confirmation of the exclusive deal via Sony. However as of now this story is no longer available on the site.

Microsoft actually bought the company that made this camera and the game
6) New Rare Game and New Vision Cam - There is a rumor that Microsoft will unveil the company’s newly acquired Vision Cam. The Vision Cam is said to be the answer to the Wii-mote without the controller. The Cam was demonstrated before where the user would use their hands and the camera would pick up the movements. Rare is said to be developing a Wii-Sports like game as a big part of Microsoft’s press conference. Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft did say to keep an eye out during E3.
I have listed the top six rumors that have come to my attention a few times this past week. There are many more rumors out there but are much less likely then the ones that I have listed. If I hear anything else before E3 I will make sure to put something up, so stay tuned for more details before E3 gets underway.

Ahh the pre-E3 hype/excitement… .shortly followed by the obligatory E3 disappointment.
May 31st, 2009
Gran Turismo 5 and Metal Gear Solid 5 information would make lock_down very happy.
No PS3 price drop, with Team ICO likely being at TGS.
The 300,000 Halo project is interesting though, because I remember people complaining that MAG is going to be chaotic with 256 players…so how is 300,000 going to work?
Epic PS3 exclusive sounds like it’s going to be a disaster.
I want information on the Rockstar exclusive goddammit!
And I wonder if MS should use that pic at their press conference…he looks like he’s about to lamp someone.
May 31st, 2009
Totally agree lock_down. I hope the big announcement was a psp MGS, that would seriously suck. And i want screenshots of GT5 damage.
Not bothered about a slim ps3 but i’d like to see a price drop just so more people will buy it.
And yeah i forgot about the rockstar exclusive.
I’ve also been hearing rumous of “Starhawk” aka warhawk in space.
May 31st, 2009
Where’s the Xbox & Sky TV hook-up story?
May 31st, 2009

May 31st, 2009
Pretty good list. I agree that we’re not going to see a price drop. We’ll defnalty see the PSP go, and there’s a “slim” possibility we’ll see the PS3 slim.
MGS5, GT5, Trico, StarHawk will all probably end up being shown.
The rockstar game (L.A. Noire) will likely go multiplatform, due to the super high development costs.
I wasn’t aware of the Epic game, so I’m looking forward to learning more.
May 31st, 2009
L.A. Noire was never confirmed as PS3 exclusive as it was after the agreement between Sony and R* was announced.
Though that said, and assuming they both made a written contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony have just settled for some timed future GTA exclusivity instead of making R* develop a new franchise.
Don’t get your hopes up about the Epic game…it’ll likely be a disaster…it feels like a “me too” move from Sony…”look, MS aren’t the only ones who have an exclusive agreement with Epic!”
May 31st, 2009
LA Noire is like vapourware. Never seen ANYTHING on it yet, no screenshots, no teasers, nothing.
May 31st, 2009
I should just add…L.A. Noire was *rumoured* to be exclusive…but NEVER confirmed.
May 31st, 2009
Bourne, go to rockstargames.com/lanoire and there’s a trailer there.
May 31st, 2009
Yeah, Epic isn’t really the best third party developer out there. If Sony strikes a deal with any one it should be Konomi
Still I’d at least like to see it.
May 31st, 2009
Oh yeah I do and I hope it’s great, but everyone will inevitably compare it to Gears, and I think people will be let down when/if it doesn’t match the quality (or success) of Gears.
May 31st, 2009
lock_down:
Keep Dreaming, Gears of War inst that good is just hype through the roof. And Gears of War 2 was a major let down for online players.
The Konami rumor will be a Metal Gear Solid game for PSP and another PS3 Metal Gear Solid exclusive.
Team Ico will most definitely announce another Ico game at e3 for 2010 or this fall.
The PS3 price drop ain’t happening.
A new Halo duh that’s all Microsoft does common sense.
Epic Game, Konami, Rockstar Games, and many other have PS3 untitled projects.
The new Xbox camera is another Microsoft attempt to rip off people.
PS3 has this E3 won already.
May 31st, 2009
“there’s a “slim†possibility we’ll see the PS3 slim.”
This is the best I have seen on it, and it makes sense that they would not announce it, just do it later in the year (August/September). The guy seems to have a pretty good track record with these things as well:
“we’ll be seeing a slimmed-down PS3 in August or September. However, this news likely won’t be announced during E3… There are plenty of PS3 systems sitting on store shelves right now, and Sony is planning on sitting back and allowing the supply of those units to dry up over the summer. We shouldn’t expect a price cut, but the possibility is certainly there. After retailers are ready for new stock, Sony will begin releasing the slimmer units to retail, although what features have been taken away or added is still anyone’s guess.”
arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/05/mole-confirms-psp-go-details-with-a-smaller-ps3-on-the-way.ars
May 31st, 2009
Carl, Yeah I read that. There mole has a pretty good track record. I guess it would make sense to wait for the price drop. Although if they were to release the slim now, they could probably sell it at the higher price until they do drop the price… but they will probably wait to do both at the same time.

“Where’s the Xbox & Sky TV hook-up story?”
Trust me Happy that is not going to happen. We have been arguing about that for a long time. Expect only PS3 News and Flambait articles from Blorge. You can ask all you like but trust me, THEY DON’T CARE. Anything that puts the 360 in a good light is not welcome here. I think it’s the reason I come here, to defend the 360 from the proliferation of lies that comes from Blorge. Call Mike a PS3 Fanboy and he responds like it’s all lies trying to defend himself. Actions speak Louder then words Mikey, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THEN WORDS!!! Dave your also guilty, don’t think that you got away but at least Dave does not come to work dressed up as the devil everyday.
June 1st, 2009
It’s only fair that if you want an Xbox & Sky story that we have a PS3 and BBC iPlayer story……oh, well, would you look at that, we already had one!
gamer.blorge.com/2008/12/17/ps3-becomes-streaming-tv-powerhouse/
Ahhh, I love this site.

Lock_Down -”The 300,000 Halo project is interesting though, because I remember people complaining that MAG is going to be chaotic with 256 players…so how is 300,000 going to work?”
Because its not a shooter like MAG
Barnabe: “Yeah, Epic isn’t really the best third party developer out there. If Sony strikes a deal with any one it should be Konomi”
Konami is not really good at games either. but I think you meant Kojima Productions, Right ?
June 1st, 2009
Oh cmon CAD. It you hate it soooo bad, why come back all the time ??
June 1st, 2009
I love it. Mike does 10 articles on the 360 in a row. The first article he posts that mentions both consoles is “flame bait”.
It’s “top 6 rummors”, Sky TV isn’t in most people top 6. Neither is the Zune HD.
Roca, Yeah exactly. Asides from Metal Gear, Konomi doesn’t have anything else going for them. Konomi produces and publishes MGS. Kojima productions is a team that works for Konomi.

June 1st, 2009
I bet that the 300,000 players is a Fabel 2 MMO. But to be more in line with things I don’t expect an announcment about it because the Job Posting was revealed the other day. Why would this be talked about now at E3?
June 1st, 2009

Oh cmon CAD. It you hate it soooo bad, why come back all the time ??
Who said I hate it. I Love reading the BS that this site deliveies. Blorge is not News it’s like reading the tabloids. I’m just trying to explain to Happy why he shouldn’t waste his time asking for Pro 360 News. Asking for that is like waiting for the cow to jump over the moon. It ain’t going to happen! There used to be a dude named Jonathan who wrote honest articles but Blorge Fired him because Sony was paying Blorge to flame on Microsoft and they didn’t like him. See it’s a site dedicated to tabloid news.

Barnabe Jones
In Europe Xbox & Sky linking will be a big deal & of interest to most if not all Xbox owners here.
Given the Beeb’s publicly funded nature I’d also expect some sort of iPlayer link too.
The reason I mentioned Sky & Xbox was I had (mistakenly, clearly) thought a substantive and prtetty big story like that was worth far more than a speculative fluff piece.
Details are sketchy and what with the various contacts some bloggers have here I’d assumed (again mistakenly, obviously) someone might have brought us the story with details.
As CAD says, when it was relating to the PS3 there was no prob creating a thread.
Why is that?
June 1st, 2009
How ppl want the site to post 360 news when there is none. there nothing to post about the 360, the M$ has been quite for at least 6 months now.
June 1st, 2009
Roca
Are you blind or just kidding?
There’s a big Xbox & Sky TV story about to break
(Microsoft’s press conference at E3 has been extended and will surely include this one).
June 1st, 2009
Happy;
uhmmm and what is your point. is that suppose to be a new game or what? well i know where ur coming fron since there is no games to play on ur 360 now the focus is on Sky tv. Great!!
June 1st, 2009
once again if you want to Sky TV you going have to pay for it. M$ just want your money.
June 1st, 2009
I’m going with ‘alot’ of 360 users ‘may’ be excited about it
Spoke with a buddy yesterday, he wasn’t very interested because he already has Sky.
Now if they combine your current sky subscription and someone allow you to tie that to your 360 account that would be awesome. I’d take that fooker on the road with me (if I lived in the UK anymore…).
June 1st, 2009
Roca.:
“i know where ur coming fron since there is no games to play on ur 360 now the focus is on Sky tv. Great!!”
Hardly, seeing as Xbox has more games and more quality games.
Roca.:
“once again if you want to Sky TV you going have to pay for it. M$ just want your money.”
I already pay, I’m a Sky (HD) subscriber, there’s talk of some linkage between that and my XBL.
I’d like to know more.
Shame it’s passed by unnoticed by this site to date, huh?
…..and compared to what, eh?
That freebie charity you seem to imagine Nintendo and/or Sony run?
LMAO
Please.
SW:
“Now if they combine your current sky subscription and someone allow you to tie that to your 360 account that would be awesome.”
As a Sky (HD) subscriber you can imagine then why I’m interested in it.
June 1st, 2009
where are the quality games. huh?
anyways you might be excited about sky HD, but thats mayb because ur x360 cant play bluray. and thats all you guys can talk now since there isnt any games.
June 1st, 2009
Roca
Don’t be silly.
As Carlb showed on the silly PS3 thread –
95% or above
360-3-60% (of titles rated 95 or above between PS3 and 360 only)
PS3-2-40%
90% or above
360-21-61%
PS3-13-38%
85% or above
360-60-56%
PS3-48-44%
80% or above
360-142-58%
PS3-103-42%
75% or above
360-241-61%
PS3-152-39% (this range increased by 3 since last post, probably new releases on the borderline)
I’m interested in the Sky tie in because I’m already a Sky subscriber and the talk is that existing Sky subscribers will get some sort of deal.
I do not want a Blu-ray add-on or a game console with Blu-ray built-in.
I already have a far superior stand-alone Blu-ray player than the cheapo unit installed in the PS3
(which, interestingly, is now being admitted & rated as a poor player compared to the better & later units now out).
My Stand-alone is region free for DVD & Blu-ray.
It also bitstreams HD audio properly.
It also plays HD DVDs, so I can enjoy the hundreds of very inexpensive HD DVDs on ale.
My stand-alone is not using up it’s limited Blue laser lifetime by being used for games & movies.

Happy-
show me the games i dont wanna see any numbers
360-3-60% <–show me those 3 tittles
PS3-2-40%
90% or above
360-21-61% <– Show me those 21 titles
PS3-13-38%
good you got a blu-ray player i got one on my ps3 at no extra cost. too bad ur 360 is making spend alot more money.
360 + bluray player = more than what the ps3 cost.
enjoy ur cheap HD movies, i know 360 owner have to be chaep since M$ is charging you guys for everything.
And FYI bluray lense on the ps3 is not limited (how limited is the 360 console RRoD, now thats what i called limited) if you didnt that all ps3 games are on a bluray disc. i had mine since the 1st day and it is still kicking ass.
June 1st, 2009
“I do not want a Blu-ray add-on or a game console with Blu-ray built-in”
you sound stupid now. they why would you want sky on ur gaming console. ill rather have a console that plays bluray (PS3) than having to that plays nothing but DVDs (x360)
June 1st, 2009
Happy, go die!
(not really)
I am at work, and all the good sites with upto the minute updates are blocked
Need….News….Now…..
June 1st, 2009
‘you sound stupid now. they why would you want sky on ur gaming console.’
There is a difference. He can happily stream his titles without swapping discs, he can take his 360 on the road if he’s going to some sort of function for a week or so, etc etc etc. All without having to lug around extra discs (considering he probably has games and such too).
June 1st, 2009
SW,
Dont worry i know what ur feeling (same here)
June 1st, 2009
he is still carrying a machine that can break easily, what if there is no internet access.
but anways make sure to post any big announcement, when is Sony and Nintendo’s conference?
June 1st, 2009
SW is there another gaming website that isnt blocked by corporate
June 1st, 2009
Not that I know of.
MS conference so far is underwhelming for me. I just checked the last update on gamespot at 11:45am PST.
I guess I should’nt go into these things expecting megatons to be dropped every 5 seconds
June 1st, 2009
@Happy,
I didn’t think Xbox & Sky TV was a top rumor – I thought Halo MMO was a pretty huge rumor. Maybe its because I’m an American. If its announced you can bet I will talk about in my next story.
@CAD
rigggghhhttt.. All I write about are bad things about 360, I don’t write any good stories for 360?
- Microsoft to revive dead Halo MMO with 300,000 players at E3 2009? – Any new Halo game is good in my book
- Zune HD is Microsoft’s rumored PSP2 killer with a fee – Msft introducing new hardware
- E3 2009: What Microsoft needs to do to win E3 – Xbox 360 – Did same story for PS3
- Splinter Cell: Conviction gameplay analysis from 2007 Trailer – Taking a closer look at Conviction
- Xbox 360 Alan Wake not vaporware but delayed? – Alan Wake my most anticipated 360 title of this year
- Rumor: Splinter Cell: Conviction to be revolutionary – need I say more?
Johnathan used to write here but he has moved on to new projects. You guys should at least be happy that someone who owns all the consoles and plays on them day and night is keeping it real.
I know some of you guys don’t want me to take jabs at things you might feel sensitive about but thats what I do because I believe it helps. I know all the cons of using all of the systems insideout – Like I hate it when the NXE takes you to the advertisement section upon bootup, how slow the avatars load and how slow it is to load the download options for the video or game on marketplace, or how pathetically slow the marketplace has become.
I also hate it how slow the PS3 trophies load and the fact I still can’t tag my PS3 Gamercard on the Internet or how I have to download and Install demos due to the compression, or how Metal Gear still has no trophies (yes I know its coming).
Anyway, keep up the good work. The comments section would not be what it is without you guys, especially CAD.
June 1st, 2009
@CAD
Its ironic you say Blorge is “pro-PS3″ when the only reason i started posting was because of all the PS3 Bashings you and others toss around here…
June 1st, 2009
“MS conference so far is underwhelming for me. I just checked the last update on gamespot at 11:45am PST.”
WTF they didnt announce anything big?
June 1st, 2009
I think anyone looking at the show can see that there are some beautiful games for Xbox coming.
Modern Warfare 2 looks a big step up from COD4.
The new Splinter Cell looked great, so too did the Final Fantasy & Metal Gear clips we saw.
….and the motion control stuff (controller free play, player recognition, voice recognition & whole body sensing) looks like it could be very very interesting.
Footy games could be revolutionised!
June 1st, 2009
I don’t know if its over yet tho
June 1st, 2009
MW2 is also coming for PS3
SC looks good
Metal Gear…not sure if this is exclusive yet..
June 1st, 2009
So happy, did they announce MGS for the 360?
(like i said, i was rolling on gamespot with a ‘text only’ update)
June 1st, 2009
Roca
“And FYI bluray lense on the ps3 is not limited”
Er, yes it is.
All Blue lasers have a limited lifespan (and the early ones, like those fitted into the first couple of years of PS3, more so).
There has been work done (announced after PS3 launched) and breakthroughs claimed which will extend their lifespan.

SW
Yes, Metal Gear Solid Rising.
June 1st, 2009
Just finished, should be available as a stream somewhere now tho.
June 1st, 2009
Neato! More MGS all round. Rawr!
And I’m not going to read that research, but what is thier definition of limited? Because 10 years could be limited, but thats plenty for a console. 2 weeks is a different story
June 1st, 2009
That motion sensor looked pretty amazing…MGS on 360, not bad Microsoft.
Forza looked crap though.
June 1st, 2009
Instant 1080p video streaming is also a big appeal for more than a few I’ll bet.
June 1st, 2009
SW some reports talk of 1,000 – 3,000hrs.
June 1st, 2009
Excited about a new MGS, hope we get one
Alan wake + Splinter cell = only announcements which excited me as a gamer.
Facebook + twitter = fail.
Movie/music streaming = not interested in, i can just use my ipod/usb.
Halo = not interested.
Mylo = wierd, not interested.
June 1st, 2009
The new Tony Hawks stuff looked like fun, I know a few who’ll be handing cash over for the new board.
June 1st, 2009
(oddly, they also showed the new – whole body – motion sensing working with a skateboarding game too)
June 1st, 2009
Do like those hand gesture motions you can do
June 1st, 2009
Surprised they didn’t talk about the Zune…so I guess we can assume that the Zune HD won’t play any games.
June 1st, 2009
I’m out of work at the moment, so I had the opportunity to watch it live on G4.
*Splinter Cell – looked great.
*Alan Wake – Looked ok. Story might be cool.
*Halo & another Halo (of coarse) – meh
*Epic XBL game = Bionic Commando rearmed clone
*MGS – I knew it was coming, but is it multiplatform? Or What?
*Forza – how many times did that guy say “the definitive racing game”? 20 or so? Trying to hard to convince people of that.
*Facebook + twitter – cool idea, but even if it came to PS3 I wouldn’t use it.
*Nice to see FF XIII with some English.
*Peter Molyneux has a long standing history of making outrageous claims that are not true. I’m amazed they used him to announce the camera thing. The whole thing was scripted. The PS Eye already can do the water and paper effects. The whole AI recognition thing… I’ll believe it when it comes to retail.
All in all they did a pretty good job. I’d probably give them a B.
June 1st, 2009
so they only announce 1 game, MGS Rising?
thats it?
June 1st, 2009
Ill take alan wake and MGS. I’m not a fan of social websites as it is. If that camera allows me to lob the V’s to someone online, then I’m in on that too.
Tommorrow is gonna be good too I hope!
I really want Ninty to knock it out of the park – to show us they still have that spark (remember the spooge-fest that was the reveal of the ‘twightlight princess’?).
But I really think its going to be ‘blah blah blah, we sold lots! blah blah blah new gaming demographic! blah blah blah revolutionairy controller! blah blah blah taking it to the next level with motion+ blah blah zelda mario. Fin.’
As for Sony, who the fuck knows… They better drop some big fucking bombs. Bombs the size of a elephants balls, bombs. Me wants some moarrrrr Kratos action, need more harpey decapitation. Be nice to some some exclusives stolen from MS(just for payback) but alas, I fear Sony is in too much of a hole ($ wise) to pull that off.
I mean really, I dont want all my consoles having the same damn games. Thats just boring!
June 1st, 2009
That’s what their first party games are for SW.
Everyone should check out the comments on the PS Blog about MGS:R on 360.
hahaha….
June 1st, 2009
Oh yeah, they also gave a target release date for FF XIII as spring 2010. That was pretty surprising.
It’s also pretty cool that the camera will work with the dashboard & avatars.
Nintendo’s E3 conference was a train wreck last year. I’m sure there’s will be pretty good this year. There will at least be Mario or Zelda (or maybe both).
Sony will have a ton of release dates, but I’m sure they’ll at least announce a few new things. Honestly at this point, I have no idea what there ace in the whole game is going to be. StarHawk would be cool, but it’s not really a huge major franchise.
June 1st, 2009
Hey hey, guys! Who am I impersonating:
A partnership with Sky TV? That’s big news for M$? Pathetic! If ever there was an example of a CE corporation losing their way and floundering around, this is it! First, “content is king, we’re all about the games”, and then “look, we’re the cheapest console AND family-friendly!” and now… a set-top tv box! PAHAHAHA!
Can anyone guess? Who am I?
-Arvis
June 1st, 2009
Heading to the PS blog now. That’s going to be good.
June 1st, 2009
PS blog is funny, I just headed out to a computer with no filters to check it out.
Ill sum it up ‘Sony is teh d00med! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh’
It goes something like that
June 1st, 2009
Oh, it’s a hoot!
“SONY WTF U AINT GOIN FREAKEN PAY FOR MGS PS3 ONLY WTF U LOST FF13 AND NOW METAL GEAR WTF ANSWER OUR DAMN ?S NOW WE PAY FOR A PS3 BC OF PS3 GAMES ONLY AND NOW WE R LOSEN THEM? WTF BETTER SHOW SOMETHING GOOD TOMORROW WTF IM PISSED RIGHT NOW THAT U GUYS WOULD ALLOWED THIS CARE ABOUT UR FANS WHO HAVE HAD UR BACK WHEN NO ONE ELSE HAS WTF PAY FOR PS3 ONLY DAMN IT
…was my personal fave!
June 1st, 2009
M$ was so underwhelming. I hope Sony doesn’t give an underwhelming casual gaming conference.
Microsoft basically presented Nintendo’s conference just in green with the X360 logo on.
June 1st, 2009
I think you’re going to be disappointed then if you want Sony not to focus on casual….
Apparently Sony’s conference is gonna be 2hrs long so should be plenty of room for some good announcements.
June 1st, 2009
Surprised how no-one seems to have noticed how games running 1080p @ 60fps got mentioned.
Seems there’s another thing the Xbox isn’t supposed to be able to do which has turned up.
June 1st, 2009
Oh another thing came to mind about Microsoft’s conference. The Beatles “All You Need is Love” is an exclusive track to the 360. Lennon must be rolling over in his grave.
June 1st, 2009
please let me cut some dudes up with raiden… please… please kojima… I will defend you from all those people calling you a tool… please let me cut up some bitches…
I liked conviction… shame its not on the PS3…
well since MGS is on the xbox… I hope more people give it a shot… rather than hating on it just because it was a playstation game…
thats it… Im taking my toys and Im going home… fuck you Microsoft… and fuck your timed exclusive MW2 map packs…
June 1st, 2009
If there’s any sign that gamers are being exploited, MW2 is a prime example.
The game isn’t even out and yet THERE ARE ALREADY TWO MAP PACKS!!!
What the fuck? Why can’t they be put in the final game?
June 1st, 2009
Happy – Who was saying it couldn’t and why? Were they saying thier was a physical limitation or the machine didn’t hav the grunt?
If its grunt, then I could rotate a 12 poly cube on screen at 1080p and its hardly good. So while its cool have a game running at 1080p, I’d want to see the game first
If there are pictures out there, it may have to wait until I get home in about 3 hours…
‘Apparently Sony’s conference is gonna be 2hrs long so should be plenty of room for some good announcements.’
I dunno dude, I forsee an hour and a half’s worth of graphs… hehehe… Just like when that boring guy comes out for Nintendo and he just hammers away with graphs/bar charts and it makes you want to die.

I know arvis!!!! It’s gota be the happyhockum. That archived post was soooo funny. He backpeddled so much they could have turned it into an Olympic event!
June 1st, 2009
Yeah, good point
I bet Tretton and co. are feverishly deleting all the graphs and charts they were gonna show…
Though be fair, last years charts were shown off using Sackboy, so you can’t go far wrong there

I don’t know.. at one point in the conference, they stated “all of the games you will see from here on out, are 360 exclusives” yet they never really stated that MGS Rising will be exclusive to the 360. I’ll bet it’s multiplatform. There may also be a PSP MGS.
I’m a little disappointed that MGS5 hasn’t been confirmed, but as long as Rising come to the PS3, I’m happy.
June 1st, 2009
Yeah, if an MGS spinoff is all MS has to announce, Kev is gonna be so ticked.
-Arvis
June 1st, 2009
That was one of the things I was actually most impressed about with M$’s show. There really wasn’t any gloating or sales data. It seemed pretty straight forward and focused on the 360′s future line up.
June 1st, 2009
Kev was probably going crazy about Forza. They guy showing it also mentioned it’s “phiziks”. I thought of Kev while I was watching it.

I think Arvis is right, MGS:R sounds like spin off….there’s no way a major MGS game is going to be 360 exclusive.
I can’t believe some people are entertaining that idea.
June 1st, 2009
ARVIS! FAT PRINCESS IN JUNE! THATS THIS MONTH!
To be fair… I am glad MGS can be shared with more people… Im hoping its a slash em up… please… please lemme cut some bitches…

PHYSICS! THE GAME HAZ IT!

Sorry. I wish I could actually give out prizes. CAD and iVan would have won SO MANY by now…

P.S. DWH, sounds cool, but I still don’t know if I want that game. Wish it didn’t have cartoony blood all over the place… ach, I’ll give it some serious thought. It does look like an awesome game.

It’s a good job Carl said that Forza isn’t trying to compete with GT’s graphics, because F3 cockpit cam looks rough.

I don’t think that was coincidence after Audi produced the “Audi R8 meets Gran Turismo” video.

DWH – Fat Princess is a day one purchase for me.
All – The one big game that was suspiciously absent? MassEffect 2. I’m not really a fan of the series, but I think that may say something.

That was an amazing confrence. There was so much I need to take it all in again. I’ll watch it when I get home. I see the haters came to the party early. Underwhelming is an understatement. So Happy did they say that the TV was coming to other countries? My cabel is too expensive i wish I had another option for TV besides satellite. I love the Cabel for the On Demand and Satellite does not do this. The only oter option is the 360. Oh I wish. Oh and Happy just ignore that fool Roca, I think he was born blind.

Wow Arvis,
for a teeth-curlingly tedious exercise in unfunny feeble jibes that was a new low.
SW:
I think the implied message from the resident fanboy gang was that only the (try not to laugh) incredibly advanced Cell powered one could handle the demands of 1080p @ 60fps.
CAD:
Pocket Lint has this up (here’s a small section of it) –
“Microsoft has also announced that Xbox will deliver what’s described as a first – instant on 1080p movies and TV with 5.1 surround sound – direct to consoles connected to compatible HD TVs through the Xbox LIVE social entertainment network.
Due this autumn, a “broad selection” of movies and TV shows from what’s called “Zune video on Xbox 360″ will be available to start and stream instantly, in HD at the push of a button.
Microsoft has increased where Xbox LIVE offers its TV shows and movies, growing from eight to 18, by adding Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
UK Xbox owners will see the already announced partnership with Sky that lets them watch live or on-demand TV from Sky Player on Xbox 360. ”

Happy, you’re the resident video phile here (you always seem to be on the Av forums), find out the required bandwidth for a 1080p stream
Either way its cool, but last time I was in blighty I had 512k DSL.

EA wrap up =
*EA loves the Wii.
*Online interconnectivaty for there sports games.
*MassEffect 2 – 360 & PC

SW
It’s a funny thing and hard to tie down.
Streaming is a very different beast to downloading, it’s all about the buffer tech.
Microsoft are claiming very big things for the ZuneHD ‘smooth streaming’
(Silverlight3 – I won’t pretend to understand it right now, it’s very new to me).
I doubt they’d be putting their neck on the line and making claims they didn’t have to if they were just being full of it.
Some are talking of Silverlight as the next tech for the likes of youtube as it’s much more efficient than flash.
UK broadband?
Depends where you live.
Up to 8meg was the prev ‘standard’ (with most averaging around 3 – 3.5meg).
24 meg is the emerging tech (I have this and get 18meg on my line) which will be covering about 70% of the country by the end of 2010.
Virgin currently have an ‘up to 50meg’ service and if you’re lucky enough to move into them in one or two new housing developments you’ll find a billy-spankers 100/10meg fibre connection.
I was talking to one of the tech guys at my last ISP a month or so ago, he reckon we’ll have fibre to the street cabinet in 5yrs.
That will allow us to privately upgrade to fibre to the house at a sane price.
100/10 is also just the start.
Adjust the frequency of the laser driving your fibre and you get much more.
He said that he knew that his own company had tested fibre speeds of up to 3 gig.
He could have been kidding me on but I’d already left by then so there was no reason for him to talk cr@p.

Halo ODST
Halo Reach
L4D 2

APB
Splinter Cell Conviction
Alan Wake
Mass Effect 2
MGS: Rising
Forza 3
Not sure about the motion sensing stuff, will have to see it when it comes out.
But wow, not a bad lineup at all!
June 1st, 2009
The more I watch that motion camera the more impressed I am…it looks totally off the hook.
I doubt Sony’s motion stuff is as interesting, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s bumped from the show…
June 1st, 2009
APB on the PC… shame my laptop cant run it…
Alan Wake looks very good… a lot like Alone in the dark… with all this talk about writing… the story better be good…

Harry I don’t know. I was always intrested in the motion control but I was not expecting anything like this. Did you see the Project Natal Video. It’s on the 360 now. Check it out. I’m quite blown away with the Motion control feature. To be able to flip through my 360 menu without a controller like I’m interacting with the Ipod Touch or the Iphone except your not touching the screen is ground breaking plus it has voice recognition Oh My God I’m going to cream myself.

Don’t say I never do nothing for ya! lol
CAD
Yeah that whole Natal/Whole Body Motion Sensing is obviously going to open up an entirely new way to game……not to mention operate your PC.
That was massive, and absolutely in a genuine ‘you heard it here first’ exclusive.
(as for what it reminded me of?
How about the movie Minority Report & the menu manipulation & accessing on a mega screen with a wave of your hand.
I think Microsoft just showed us what they meant when they said that the PC mouse is going to die off, the surprise for me was that it got demo’d on a game platform first.)
Very interesting times.
We just have to see how quickly devs can use this tech & who’ll be making good & imaginitive use of it.

LoL at Microsoft’s E3 conference wow we basically knew all that already and Metal gear Solid: Rising is multiplaform and when Sony starts their E3 conference tomorrow you will see how a gaming show gets excited.

Crysis 2
Xbox 360 – The End
June 1st, 2009
Well Mike I’m not going to comment on our earlier discussion but lets say I’m use to the way things are around here.
OK so on to the games. Mike I know you have been creaming your shorts about this Allen Wake game but I have not realized what you were so excited about until I just saw that trailer for E3. Wow, Talk about peaking my intrest. I can’t wait to see what else this game has in store.
June 1st, 2009
Crackdown 2 WOW I can’t wait. Hopefully the Mulitplayer is not just limited to 2 players.
June 1st, 2009
Alan Wake…he’s the man with a touch. Looks like a Silent Hill 5 clone to me.
Which is bad news.
June 1st, 2009
Ivan
I’d like some of what you’re on.
You must have missed the point here but the revealing of the body sensing (no controllers!) tech just saw PCs & gaming move on a genuine step-change.
I’d bet the house Sony have nothing coming even remotely close to that tomorrow.
June 1st, 2009
PLAYSTATION Eye has motion tracking too. Microsoft is so behind already is pathetic plus most of those so call exclusive are coming to PC too. Plus is not a lot of games nothing exciting old news repeated.
Sony has a huge E3 conference ready to kick Microsoft’s ass.
Where anyone shock by Microsoft i highly doubt look at Sony’s previous E3 shows and you can see tomorrow is the day we all be waiting.
PSP Go is the only bad news that crap.
June 1st, 2009
Ohhhh, now it makes sense why the PSP Go information was purposefully leaked, along with the new MGS PSP…..to calm the news about MGS going to the 360.
Ahhhh.
Ahem, carry on.

June 1st, 2009
Ages apparently harry…so say the folks on GAF.
And it makes sense…no price, no release window, not solid games running it, no third party games…
June 1st, 2009
Harry,
Fall. The motion capture was hands down the big news of the show, and everything else was just gravy. Hopefully it:
1. Actually works the way they showed in the video.
2. Is not prohibitively expensive. I imagine it will cost about the same as the balance board ($89).
3. Is incorporated in a lot of games.
I will be all over it doing the “minority report” with Netflix, last.fm, etc. Not really big into facebook or twitter though.
June 1st, 2009
Thanks CharlieB. It looks incredible. I hope they release a sex simulator.
June 1st, 2009
Not likely. Sorry, really should stop referring to it as just mocap when it includes facial recognition and voice recognition as well. The voice recognition was right up there, especially when she chose the movie via “minority report” gesture, said “play”, then the credits rolled and she said, “goodnight” and it turned off and they walked away…

but if I see a Yu Gi Oh game on the 360… and it sells a million units… Im gonna kill someone..
then pick up a copy…
also.. the last time MS made a camera for the 360… it was not good at all… the Youre in the movies game does not work well under normal lighting… you need a very bright room…

never did buy the camera.

June 2nd, 2009
@dwh – quality video.
I have to say it looks neat (after watching the ms conference), but I have two major concerns.
First of all we’ve all heard the lines ‘provides people of all age levels with pick up and play! and gives core gamers the ‘blah blah blah’. And most of you hate the console of the company that said that first.
Secondly, the biggest problem with ‘motion controls’ is the lack of tactile feedback. If I swing a sword in a game (which this ‘uber level of control I now have according to the ms dude’) and I hit a shield, in real life i am still going to follow thru with that and if I really go at it and start hacking the shit out of the dude, I’m sure we’ll end up with a ‘BAM!’ situation.
I can however see the application for browsing menu items and sucj, however again, if the thing spazzes out when I want to move thru them REALLY fast (as i could with a d pad) then whats the point. If you’ve played alot of wii games then you will know that most, if not all menus give you d-pad functionality and its just way easier to use the ‘better’ tool that the more technically complex one.
Still, I want some kind of black market sex party game, because that would be freaking awesome.
June 2nd, 2009
I just watched the Microsoft conference. Holy shit on a shingle! If Natal is as good as it looks here, this will indeed be a revolution. The thing that Molyneux has done is incredible!

*hugs pc* I love you my friend.
June 2nd, 2009
Hey Mickey,
I just read your whole post. Your welcome dude. It’s a pleasure making you look good.

Blood pressure rising, rage building, uncontrollable urge to type ridiculous rants……

June 2nd, 2009
SW,
For your first concern, I think it’s safe to say that Microsoft will not go that route.
For your second, as far as “tactile feed back”, we may have to wait on that, but maybe they could come out with some kind of “rumble sword” if you need it, but one step at a time.
As for moving fast, there could be a double gesture to similar to the present shoulder button button functionality to double time through the items. As for games, ricochet looked like it had a pretty good response time working here:

Well I was wondering what they’d respond with, yeah that’ll top the whole full body motion sensing stuff we just saw.
Not.
June 2nd, 2009
That’s just my speculation. I’m not a huge fan of novelty items myself. I’m more into games. Sony’s show will lead the way in that department for sure.

Much as I appreciate how you love my attention you’re still going to just have to get over yourselves guys.
I’m not that kind of guy.
June 2nd, 2009
‘Well I was wondering what they’d respond with, yeah that’ll top the whole full body motion sensing stuff we just saw.
Not.’
On a personal level, I’m not sure which I would prefer. As a gamer with my own tastes, I really don’t know how motion control would affect me.
Lets take shooters (which i much prefer on pc), I can’t play shooters with motion control, because how do I walk or turn around. Now I suspect an addon would be needed here, but it kinda moots the ‘no controller’ thing. The same goes for any game where I need to move etc etc.
Now, IF i enjoyed guitar hero and such (which I don’t) I would think this thing would be damn cool, I can image air guitaring, or air drumming with this thing or maybe doing some dancing (boxing etc, anything where you really need minimal input).
I can’t help but think there will be some kind of ‘wand’ at some point in order to get extended functionality (but it would have dampered the ‘no controller’ vibe) so I think that it may come later.
As for 3d glasses, that does fit in ‘more’ with my style of gaming, like I said, shooters I could do IF they give us another device (a wireless analogue stick?) but quite honestly I would rather push a button to fire that make a gesture.
Still, I guess we’ll be using controller for a while longer, and like I always say, I still have a PC

We saw this the 1st time – and it wasn’t that interesting then.
June 2nd, 2009
11:14: Just made it from the Nintendo press conference! Jack Tretton, Sony president, is onstage cracking jokes about the PSP Go! leak.
11:16: Talking about PlayStation 2 and how it’s still selling. “We’re committed to this system as long as consumers see value in it,†says Tretton.
11:17: They’re projecting an increase of 30 percent for PS3 sales this year, to 13 million.
11:19: Tretton is talking up Infamous‘ great review scores, and how first-party studios are doing great exclusive games — introducing Evan Wells, Naughty Dog co-president, to talk about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
11:20: Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta starts tonight at midnight, he says, but now he’s going to show us the single-player game. Starts playing a live demo of the game — Nathan Drake is climbing all around the walls of a beautiful city, with great draw distance. People are hooting and hollering and clapping. I think we know where the PlayStation Underground members are sitting.
11:24: Demo of Uncharted 2 continues with explosions, firefights and wisecracks galore. Catcalls, whistling from audience. Looks great.
11:27: The level of applause and “whoo†at this conference is something that E3 hasn’t had in a while, mostly because of the small size of the show the past few years. Continues with a look at Mag, the 256-player action game by the developers of SOCOM. This is some complicated stuff. Imagine being on a hundred-person team.
11:30: “I do hope you all were taking notes, because we’ll have this game running live on the show floor with 256 players,†says the Zipper Interactive team. Seems like a tough game to understand with a short demo.
11:32: Tretton back onstage, talking about PSP’s history. Talking about the “entertainment packs†that are coming this year, with Rock Band Unplugged, Dissidia Final Fantasy and Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines — the latter on Nov. 10, he says.
11:34: Nate just applauded the lilac Hannah Montana PSP.
11:35: Tretton introduces Sony Computer’s kingpin Kaz Hirai. Looks like Hirai’s going to be introducing the PSP Go. “For those who live a more digital lifestyle … who no longer need or desire tangible media.†Hirai poses for the requisite I-just-took-a-PSP-out-of-my-pocket posing for pictures. “We call it the worst-kept secret of E3. And we call it the PSP Go.â€
11:38. “Media Go†will replace the current version of “Media Manager,†and lets you transfer your media from PC to PSP easily. Also introducing an application called “Sense Me†that analyzes your music library and gives you an automatically generated playlist … sounds like Apple’s Genius Sidebar. Finally, lowering price of the PSP tool kits for developers — an 80 percent reduction in tool costs allowing “developers and individuals†a lower barrier to make games for PSP.
11:40: PSP Go will be available Oct. 1, $250, in North America. 26,800 yen on Nov. 1 in Japan.
11:42: Hirai adds that the video-delivery service will now be available through PSP. Also, all PSP games going forward will be available both at retail and through direct download.
11:43: Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi takes the stage to talk about the long-awaited PSP version of his racing game franchise.
11:44: Gran Turismo PSP will run at 60 frames per second, he says — a “full-scale†Gran Turismo game. Thirty-five courses, 800 cars. Time trial, drift trial and a mission challenge mode with the “legacy license mode†of Gran Turismo.
11:46: Trading and sharing of cars with other players.
11:47: We’ll be able to see it on the show floor. He only said we’d be able to “see it with our own eyes,†not so much play it. Let’s watch a video!
11:50: Gran Turismo will be available Oct. 1, with the launch of PSP Go. Oh hey, Hideo Kojima is taking the stage, flanked by that giant picture of Big Boss from the countdown page. Looks like they’re doing a new Metal Gear PSP game, called Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
11:51: “I’ll be deeply involved in this title, writing the script and producing it.†The main team of Metal Gear Solid 4 is participating, so it’s “not a spinoff or a side story.†“Since it’s on the PSP, I will not forget to add all the features and the specs that the PSP offers.†And hey, a trailer. Let’s watch it.
11:54: Interesting that that Metal Gear countdown clock was actually for two games (that we know of, anyway): Metal Gear Solid Rising, announced at Microsoft’s conference, and this one. This is the “missing link†in the Metal Gear saga, says the video.
11:57: Coming in 2010.
11:58: Having wrapped up the PSP Go segment, Hirai turns it back over to Tretton, who immediately announces Resident Evil Portable. I really truly hope that’s a work-in-progress name.
12:01: Showing a sizzle reel of new PSP games, makes some interesting announcements; Echochromo, sequel to Echochrome, a Fat Princess game for PSP and PixelJunk Monsters for PSP. Wild applause for Petz, Hannah Montana. At least they have some sense of irony.
12:03: Talking up PlayStation Network. Adding 50 PlayStation 1 classics to store (finally!), starting today with Final Fantasy VII. Nice.
12:05: Talking up PlayStation Home, and the fact that they’re expanding the virtual world with more spaces based on games from a variety of third parties. Video to illustrate how far Home has come since launch.
12:08: Now we’re getting to the good stuff — sizzle reel of PlayStation 3 games. Let’s see if there are any stealth announcements in here, too. Guitar Hero: Van Halen? Does that count? No.
12:13: Tretton talking about Rockstar Games, a new property called Agent, developed by Rockstar North, exclusive to PlayStation 3. It’s about espionage and assassins in the late 1970s.
12:15: Patrice Desilets from Ubisoft is here to show us a live demo of Assassin’s Creed II running on PS3.
12:17: The main character of Assassin’s Creed II isn’t an assassin at first, but he’ll learn to become one with his friends … like Leonardo Da Vinci, who has created a flying machine, a birdlike glider, for you to fly around in. He’s flying around the city with bird wings right now, dropping right on top of the target from the air.
12:19: You can use the dual hidden blades to knife two guys at once. You can disarm enemies and use their weapons against them, like very big axes. When you’re running away after an assassination, you can use smoke bombs to confuse enemies.
12:21: Assassin’s Creed II will be interoperable, somehow, with the PSP version Bloodlines when both release this holiday. And now for a video of Final Fantasy XIII.
12:23: A very lengthy, brand new English-language trailer. So I guess between that and the Xbox 360 demo yesterday, all that stuff about not starting the English translation or the Xbox 360 port before the Japanese version shipped wasn’t true.
12:24: What the heck? Final Fantasy FOURTEEN is exclusive to PlayStation 3, and is coming in 2010 — the same year as Final Fantasy XIII? That’s nuts. They’re playing the video; it’s a whole crazy, medieval-looking world with Chocobos, airships, very traditional-looking. Oh, it’s online. Make that Final Fantasy XIV Online. That’s a horse of a different color.
12:25: And they’re introducing the PlayStation Motion Controller. They keep saying that PlayStation 2’s EyeToy camera was “the first true motion controller.†What about the power glove? They’re showing off a prototype of a new controller with buttons and internal motion sensors, but there’s a glowing sphere on the end that the PlayStation Eye camera for PS3 can track. They’re showing the controller move around on screen — you can see the controller moving around on screen exactly like the motion of the controller in space. True 1:1 tracking.
12:31: They can use the video of the PlayStation Eye and superimpose an image on you that’ll be tracked by the controller — so it’ll look like you’re holding a big cartoon sword on the screen. Or a flashlight, or a baseball bat, or a tennis racket. Everybody’s got a camera these days!
12:33: Showing a tech demo of how you can move around in a first-person-shooter-style world by actually moving in the room. More tech demos: Moving around objects in 3-D space, writing or spray-painting with the controller to design games.
12:37: Showing a sword-fighting game, tossing shurikens, bow and arrow. They’ll be sharing more about this controller with us in the “near future†— no actual game announcements, price, etc. Spring 2010 launch, but as of right now, much like Project Natal at Microsoft, it’s a work in progress.
12:41: Jeez, is my battery going to last through this entire conference? They’re showing another new franchise exclusive to PS3, called ModNation Racers a racing game that’s all about user-generated content.
12:45: You can create cars and characters, but also tracks. BRB, battery dying.
12:52: Finally, real footage of Team Ico’s game, called The Last Guardian. It’s the video we’ve seen before, but totally redone with awesomer graphics.
12:57: This conference will not end! Now they’re showing a teaser of Gran Turismo 5.
12:58: Tretton has yet another game for us: We’re going to watch the first few minutes of God of War III. Live demo.
1:03 The long-awaited battle between the Greek gods and Titans is raging on-screen. And you’ll have to fight centaurs this time. Sweep the leg!
1:04 OK, gross, he just disemboweled the centaur and its intestines spilled out. That’s just vile.
1:06: God of War III: March 2010 release.
1:06: The end! Let’s get out of here!

Now Ivan’s spammign the site with his laughably OTT supine one-eyed hero-worshipping ‘blog’.
Ivan seriously, that’s just embarrassing.

Wait…. so God Of War 3 isn’t going to be released during the holidays either? This gargantuan list of games coming out on the PS3 this year seems to be shrinking considerably.

^LOL
Righto, Righto

This holiday the PS3′s biggest games will be Ratchet, Uncharted 2 & MAG. Demon’s souls along with a few others are being released in the fall as well.
GOW is due in March. White Knight should be early next year also.

That must be a downer.
I though GoW & GT5 were dead certs this year?
(does this mean no more Alan Wake jibes?)

‘does this mean no more Alan Wake jibes?’
Was that a rhetorical question?
This is blorge sweet pea…
