PSN Home: Why I stopped using it
PSN Home on the PS3 is probably one of the most talked about social gaming experiments on the game consoles in recent memory. The Home application sparked the imagination of many gamers around the world as it promised seamless integration with games and social networking. However, has Home failed to live up to its potential?
I was one of those that were intrigued by the concept of the PSN Home and what it could offer. I believed that Home would be a new and exciting way to interface with all of my games. However, despite the fact it has been out on the market in beta form for sometime, I have been largely neglecting it.
Initially I was excited with every update the PSN Home received from a cool looking Uncharted Space to the addition of many arcade style games. However, as time passed I started losing interest in Home. The reason why I started losing interest in Home was because it is more trouble to use than it might be worth for someone like me.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not for others as there is a clear presence or community on Home that has been growing and embracing the world. I am not a big fan of social networking so the aspect of chatting and meeting new people across the world does not really intrigue me that much. However, the features I have been excited about such as Trophy and Party integration has been MIA for quite some time. I still believe Home’s party system could be the best out there once implemented.
Some of the other obstacles Sony needs to over come are Home’s accessibility. It takes me a good minute to load up Home and download the latest changes made to the environment. I still dislike the fact I have to wait a minute before entering into a brand new area while it loads up in the background. I understand that Home is a 3D virtual space, but if given the choice I would rather have Home be faster to access than have it be graphically superior.
Sometimes I find myself contemplating if I should run Home while sitting at the XMB to check out the latest additions. At times I decide that its not worth the hassle to go through a load-up screen and wait while the new additions are installed onto my hard-drive.
The concept of Home is definitely cool and from a practical standpoint I believe it can still be revolutionary. Sony just needs to make it more practical and accessible. Once features like the Trophy and Party system integration happens undoubtedly I will be using it a lot more. However, until Sony fixes some of these niggling issues I will still be cringing during the load sequences.

PLAYSTATION Home is perfect why you want cheap graphics. Load is a bit painful to wait those damn 20 seconds but still is always full of people. I agree Sony needs to add more thing like that trophy room or hall of fame and we need more mini games that can be play with many friends also more videos like episode of TV shows free to view that would be awesome. Home has so many damn positive possibility there are endless.

The last DS game I played over a long period of time was Professor Layton. I like mind puzzles and it was quite good the way it was integrated in to a bit of a story. Other favs are New Mario and my all time fav is Zoo Keeper. I know I am going to get the peep taken out of me for that but its a game my wife is good at and we alternate high scores. What games do you have/enjoy.
I will be honest I haven’t had a lot of time over the last year play many DS games.

I know I am annoying. Infact you have no idea how annoying I can get. I annoy myself most of the time. And I will say a lot to rile people and get a reaction but its all in good fun. Thats why I joined this site. Everybody seemd to have a laugh slagging off each others consoles.
Having said all that though, I really do hate sony. I feel dirty just using sony rechargeable batteries in my Wii-motes. And crap batteries they are too.

Ok, does ANYONE besides Mike call it “PSN Home?” I’ve never heard it called that before.
And, just a couple thoughts on Roca’s uber-list up there:
“Buzz vs Scene it
Winner: Buzz”
This is debatable… but why bother?
“Killzone vs Halo
Winner: Killzone”
Also debatable. Graphically Killzone is obviously far superior, but I don’t know about the gameplay. I don’t like FPS titles, so I can’t really judge.
“Resistance vs Gears of War
Winner: Gears of War”
I would say this isn’t a fair comparison, as they are two different genres. I’d compare Uncharted with Gears, and give the edge to Uncharted for better story and graphics. Gameplay-wise the titles are on a pretty even keel.

Andrew_DS – I only have two games: Final Fantasy IV and New Super Mario. I like both of them a lot. I still need to pick up Zelda, FF III, and Chrono Cross. I do want to check out Professor Layton at some point also.

I did think about the FF3 or 4 games. Thought maybe a bit of an older RPG would maybe not be so time consuming.
Prof Layton is good fun. Some of the puzzles are easy but some get you thinking. Its bit like if brain training had a plot and more depth. New Mario I love. I grew up on Mario games so I have a soft spot for 2d platformers.
The Zelda game based on the Wind Waker engine looks good. I love Wind Waker but again never got round to completing it.

I have a PS3, hell I’ve had a PS, a PS2 and also have a PSP. I have a Wii and X360 as well, but Mike is right, Home is ok, but there is nothing there to keep me coming back time after time after time. I’m a gamer, I want to play games, and bowling, pool etc just don’t do it for me. Sony need to get their act together and get game matching working and the trophy support.

PLAYSTATION Home vs Avatar vs Mii
PLAYSTATION Home:
Home allows users to create a custom avatar, which can be made to suit the user’s liking. Users can decorate their avatar’s personal apartment (“HomeSpace”) with default, bought, or won items. Users can travel throughout the world which is constantly updated by Sony and partners. Each part of the world is known as a space. Public spaces can just be for display, fun, or for meeting people. Home features many mini-games which can be single player or multiplayer. Users can shop for new items to express themselves more through their avatars or HomeSpace. Home features video screens in many places for advertising, but the main video content is shown at the theatre for entertainment. Home plays host to a variety of special events which range from prize-giving events to entertaining events. Users can also use Home to connect with friends and customise content.
Xbox 360 Avatars:
Users are able to customize body shape, gender, facial features, hair style, and clothing. They can then display a 2D head shot of their Avatar on their Gamercard (although they are still free to use their previous picture should they so choose).
