XBL awards coming but need to fix hacking issue on Xbox 360 first

XBL awards coming but need to fix hacking issue firstMicrosoft has been running a covert beta program with a select group of XBL users on the Xbox 360. It has been revealed that Microsoft is working on an awards system that ties into Achievements. An award system is great, but Microsoft may want to look at fixing the gamertag hacking issue first.

I am happy to see that Microsoft is looking into a new award system for the XBL Achievements. The concept is similar to what Sony has already been doing with Trophies and Avatars. On the PS3, certain trophies gained will unlock items for your avatar inside PSN Home. Some boring things I have unlocked so far include a table lamp, furniture, music and some clothes for my avatar.

It seems like Microsoft is keen to this idea as the company is currently beta testing this new award system for XBL users. Gamers who unlock achievements will receive cool clothes for your avatar. To be honest I do have my sights set on the new ODST costume for my NXE Avatar as long as I don’t have to purchase it.

Before Microsoft gets too crazy with the award system, the company may want to take a look at the Xbox 360 Profile Editor program that will allow you to easily change your Achievements and Gamerscore. Microsoft has banned gamers in the past when modding gamesave files were gaining popularity. It seems like a new application that can change not only your gamerscore but what Achievements you have earned has been getting some attention lately.

Hacking your Gamerscore is such a despicable practice as it really undermines all of the hard work many gamers have put in to build up their score. The most disturbing thing about this application is that gamers on various forums are bragging how easy it is to use as well as offering tips on how to increase your Gamerscore in moderation to evade detection from Microsoft.

I highly recommend gamers report anyone they suspect is using this application to Microsoft. Microsoft also needs to step it up and develop a way to detect these people like the company was able to do so for the gamesave file modding issue. Ultimately, it really is up to everyone to keep things clean in the gaming community by being a watchdog.

Why would someone want to manipulate their achievements/gamerscore? It defeats the purpose of achieving something on your own merits. I wonder if Sammy Sosa or Ben Johnson were one of these ‘gamers’? It’s the type of thing they would do.

Aren’t high gamerscores just for 14 year olds that play waaaaaay too much Halo?

“Aren’t high gamerscores just for 14 year olds that play waaaaaay too much Halo?”

    I agree

  4. Andrew_DS:

Game scores are good. They give you something to aim for to beat. Be it a hit percentage or a lap time or what ever…

I know its hard for sony ps4th fan girls to understand as a ‘high’ score is impossible for them to read after it gets higher than 5!

Why am I not surprised that the Xbox 360 community of gamers has spent a good deal of time in finding ways to artificially increase the size of something they’ll never use and has no purpose?

Jeez Roca, what a sceptic. Do you not believe a word I say. OK, fine. Here is a link to all the factual information that I quote :

If is doesn’t show up in your browser then its due to the Web-Safe service it runs in the background. I prevents anybody viewing it if they have a virus or kiddie porn on their machine.

    Arvis,

I wouldn’t know, but I’m guessing whatever it is, people are trying to do it on PS3 as well. The good news is Microsoft basically wipes the offenders gamerscore completely of the offending gamer, then bans them when they get caught, which is why they are trying to do increase their gamerscore more slowly now… the funny thing is, if they spent the time playing the game instead they would probably have the same gamerscore.

Ahh, new forms of the e-penis are discovered in the wild everyday.

I still prefer ‘Lets post our rig specs!’ forum threads tho ;) .

  10. Barnabe Jones:

Andy how many points do you have on your Wii score? Oh yeah that’s right, Nintendo isn’t advanced enough to handle a proper online ID, let alone keeping track of a score.

  11. Barnabe Jones:

    Friend code = fail.

  12. SW:

    ‘Friend code = fail.’

    Sadly I agree.

Its like you’re playing some cryptographic WW2 wargame with fuckin’ friend codes.

    Trying? Yeah, that’s a given.

CHRIS IS FLAMING!!! CHRIS IS FLAMING!!

  15. CarlB:

harry, that only counts here if you’re pointing out a negative about PS3.

  16. harry sachz:

    sorry carl, forgot about that.

On that topic, my brother in law hired Virtua Tennis on the PS3 and the game would sometimes freeze for about half a second in a middle of a point, and this is the offline mode too. Talk about frustrating.

  17. Roca.:

talk about bullshit and a imaginated brother

  18. harry sachz:

Is english your second language by any chance? Imaginated isn’t a word I am familliar with.

I said brother-in-law, who definitely exists, and a bug in the game that definitely exists. Why are you so defensive over a game?

  19. CarlB:

Aw harry, I thought you would be used to the way Ivan talks by now :)

  20. harry sachz:

Hah I don’t think i’d ever get used to the frequent butchery of the English language.

  21. Arvis:

    Harry,

THANK YOU! I was worried that that post would just sail on by and nobody would appreciate just how clever and well-written it was.

I figured it would get tons of reaction, but alas. At least YOU never let me down, Harry. ;)
