E3 2009 was full of announcements, some big, some small, some expected, some out of the blue. Overall, it was a good conference, with all three consoles having lots of new games aired and shared. But there was one thing missing and that was price cuts from any of the hardware manufacturers. Sony in particular needs to act before this generation is truly lost.

Sony created a big splash at E3 this year with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV. What created even a bigger stir was the announcement that the game would be PS3 exclusive. However, Square Enix created some confusion the next day when the company talked about the exclusivity around Final Fantasy XIV. Sony has recently re-confirmed that the game is a PS3 exclusive.

Project Natal’s Milo was the star of Microsoft’s E3 press conference this year. The Milo demo shown via a video by Peter Molyneux surprised the audience and many gamers around the globe by the promise of what the technology could offer. Molyneux did bring a select number of journalists to demo Milo and it was found to be mostly smoke and mirrors.

Tetris is a game I’m sure everyone reading this has played at some time, in some form, over the past 20 years. What other game can make a boast of that order? The legendary game is celebrating its 25th birthday today and the amazing thing is that it’s still just as good to play today as it was the day it was conceived. And I should know, having just played it a moment before writing this.

During Sony’s press conference the company had a fairly long sizzle showcase video where all of the upcoming PS3 games were shown in a flash of lightning. A small snippet of Quantum was shown in the video, but the game was surprisingly missing from the actual conference presentation. However, Tecmo did highlight the game as one of its showpiece titles during its press release.

Yesterday, Sony dropped a mega deuce when the company revealed the first trailer of Final Fantasy XIV. This news shocked everyone as there was no clue or rumor of the game before yesterday. Since Final Fantasy XIV will be a MMO, many have started to question if there will be a subscription fee. However, according to sources the game will use a free-to-play model.

For fans of the Final Fantasy series, E3 2009 has been something of a bonanza. Final Fantasy VII is being re-released, there was a new English-language trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy XIV was announced, although whether it’s actually a PS3 exclusive or if it’ll also be coming to the Xbox 360 isn’t yet clear.

Sony wrapped up its press conference today and there were a few surprises despite the fact that one of the biggest stories leaked out a bit early. Surprisingly, Sony had a ton of new information jam packed into the two hour press conference.

The Wii has MotionPlus, and the Xbox is getting Project Natal. So it was only a matter of time before Sony made it a three-way battle for motion-sensing supremacy by unveiling its own PS3 device. Which is exactly what it did today during its E3 2009 presentation. Meet the PS3 motion-sensing wand.

Microsoft had its press conference today at E3 and it was extremely interesting. There were things in the conference out of left field and some that were expected. The overall presentation of Microsoft’s press conference clearly shows the company’s new shift and focus towards the casual market.
