Atlus stopping Demon’s Souls import with tons of free stuff

Demon’s Souls is an intriguing action RPG set to hit stateside this October. The game has become extremely popular in the import scene with gamers ordering it from overseas. Atlus wants gamers to stop importing it by offering a slew of goodies. It seems like Atlus has sweetened the pot by adding even more stuff.
As many of you know, I have been raving about Demon’s Souls for some time now. You can catch my overview of the game here where I talk about the Deluxe edition, which retails for a bargain price of $69. Demon’s Souls is quickly becoming a hot import item with the English version available from Asia. However, Atlus wants gamers to stop importing Demon’s Souls and wait a few more months and buy the U.S. version of the game.
Atlus has put together a sweet bundle with the Deluxe version. As I stated previously – the publisher will be packaging a full-blown 150-page strategy guide, art book, and a fancy Demon’s Souls slipcover when you pre-order it for the low price of $69. It really is rare for a publisher to throw in this amount of stuff for only $9 more than the standard edition.
Atlus has now revealed on the Playstation Blog, that the publisher will make the Deluxe edition even better by throwing in an official Demon’s Souls soundtrack CD.

I really have to hand it to Atlus for creating a spectacular bundle for the Deluxe Edition. Not many publishers will go to the lengths Atlus has to offer this much value at such a great price. Yes, I’m looking at you Infinity Ward – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 $150 Prestige Edition.
Atlus must be eating into their profits by subsidizing the swag, but I think gamers should be interested in holding off for U.S. version of Demon’s Souls anyway just by the fact you will be playing with newbies on the same servers day one. If you’re interested in pre-ordering Demon’s Souls, it’s available on Amazon (here) with free shipping and no tax.

Day one, bitches, Day one.
July 30th, 2009
day 2 homies day 2
July 30th, 2009
I am looking forward to a sadistically dificult RPG type game. Seriously, I really want to suffer~
July 30th, 2009
JofaMang,
You must be a masochist lol…
I’m with you though, games these days have been too easy and watered down. I remember beating games like Megaman back in the day and getting so much satisfaction..
If I see anyone with the Demon’s Soul “Strong Soul” Platinum trophy they have my respect.

I think I will buy this game hmmmmmm a game that will probably make me want to smash my t.v can’t wait. Is this just a PS3 exclusive or what?
July 30th, 2009
yeah PS3 exclusive,
Day one for me, got the Special Edition Pre-order already.
JofaMang, I there with you, what interest the most about this game is the frustrating difficulty. I play most of my games on Very Hard because i missed those days. Resistance “Super Human” difficulty is freaking hard.
July 30th, 2009
Thank god Mike didn’t call it a blockbuster…….
July 30th, 2009
zzzzzzzzz
July 30th, 2009
I’m picking up the deluxe day one also. Atlus spoils. I’m hoping that this game does pretty well and Atlus will make the leap from PS2 to PS3 finally.
I have a love hate relationship with games that are really hard like this. When I’m getting killed, I’ll be turning red in the face and cursing at the TV, but the euphoria of clearing a bit I was struggling with, more then makes up for my frustration.
July 30th, 2009
if Mike put a question mark, xbot ppl start flipping. if he uses the word blockbuster, they go nuts.
I thought they already invented a cure for the “xbot syndrome”
July 30th, 2009
Yes Harry I must agree. It has been a snooze fest lately here on Blorge. So here is a little bit of flaming to start the day.
PlayStation 3, PSP and software sales down for Sony
Sony has recorded a loss for the first quarter of the year, with a decline in sales of the PlayStation 3 and PSP hitting the company’s Networked Product and Services division.
The company sold approximately 1.1 million PlayStation 3’s during the quarter and 1.3 million PSP units, compared to 1.6 million and 3.7 million, respectively, for the same period last year. Sales of the ageing PlayStation 2 reached 1.6 million for the quarter.
Sales for the PlayStation business, which also includes Viao PCs, were down 37.4 per cent year-on-year, to JPY 246.8 billion (USD 2.571 billion), “due to lower game and Vaio PC sales,” said the company.
The division recorded an operating loss of JPY 39.7 billion (USD 414 million) for the three months ended June 30, compared to JPY 4.6 billion, again, “mainly due to a deterioration in profitability in the game and Vaio PC business.”
Specifically, the company noted a decline in software sales and PSP hardware sales.
Sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 software reached 14.8 million units for the quarter ended June 30, down from the 22.8 million units sold during the same period last year.
Game sales for the PlayStation Portable also dropped, with Sony selling 8.3 million first-party titles, compared to 11.8 in the first quarter of the 2008 financial year.
And although the PlayStation 2 sold more units during the quarter than the PS3 or PSP, software sales also fell to 8.5 million units, down from the 19.3 million in 2008.
The entire Sony business recorded an operating loss of JPY 25.7 billion (USD 268 million), down from the JPY 73.4 billion profit a year earlier.
Net loss was JPY 37.1 billion (USD ), compared to a profit of JPY 35 billion for the three months in the prior year.

are you numbers based on the JP region?
July 30th, 2009
zzzzzz
July 30th, 2009
Im glad to see CAD cares so much about the welfare of Sony.
TBH, Its a bit shallow of an argument.
Like I said before – how does sales effect you in any way?
again let me reiterate – how does sales effect you in any way?
You guys should care about games and not the manufacturer of the piece of hardware.
July 30th, 2009
@Barnabe,
I agree, if next gen titles published by Atlus does well it might mean that they may finally make the jump to next gen hardware from the PS2.
Cough Cough.. Persona 5**
July 30th, 2009
To be honest Mike it really does not matter to me I just put it out there to get a reaction. I’m not making any argument what so ever. This one a day posting is getting a little boring around here so I decided to spice things up a little.
But if anything it just means that Demon’s Soul will have poor sales no matter how good the game is because the PS3 is going down.
July 30th, 2009
Exactly. I still have to play 1-4… but I’ve read a lot of good things about the series. I’ll probably pick up the first one for PSP at some point to check it out.
July 30th, 2009
is it going down CAD?
the PS3 install base is about 23 million, so by the time Demon’s Soul come out there is going to be less units out there?
maybe its going down from 23M to 19M? sounds logical (xbot symdrome)
July 30th, 2009
CAD – Both Sony and Nintendo are down. Microshaft hasn’t posted there results just yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are down also. In case you haven’t heard, we are in a worldwide recession. I think it’s finally catching up with the gaming industry.
July 30th, 2009
Just ignore CAD.
He likes to dish it out, but he can’t receive it. He goes off sulking otherwise.
July 30th, 2009
i just started playing Persona 3 FES, and i can say it is a most have RPG game for the PS2.
I bought Persona 4, but I havent play it yet. I’ll wait until im done with P3
July 30th, 2009
Microsoft has stated that they are doing good and are haveing better sales in a year to year comparison. So go ahead and blame it on the recession.
July 30th, 2009
ohhhh those M$ statementsssss!
here is the Logic…..PS3 was out selling the 360 all last year untill the price drop.
so that explain why M$ is having year to year increase right now. because PS3 was eating their sales all last year until september and thats why the PS3 cut the 360 instal base lead by 3 Million
July 30th, 2009
So does this mean that Sony will not have a price cut this year?
THQ CEO Brian Farrell, In response to the same investor question, Farrell also speculated the other platform holders could join Microsoft in releasing new peripherals and devices “to keep the current hardware fresh for at least the next three to five years”.
He revealed too the company had been expecting hardware price cuts this fall, saying they were factored into its future earnings forecasts.
“We did anticipate price cuts coming this fall. Obviously we’ll let the hardware guys announce both the magnitude and the timing, but again, just look at the hardware numbers and it would seem that a price cut would be in order by at least two of the three manufacturers,” said Farrell.
July 30th, 2009
Who cares about price cuts? Too late for me.
July 30th, 2009
^^ im with you
July 30th, 2009
Oh but you must care because it directly relates to the health of your system. Do you really want you really want your PS3 to end up in the ICU on Life Support.
July 30th, 2009
LOL
July 30th, 2009
Or better yet on First Party Support Only. LOL
July 30th, 2009
my PS3 is going to end up in my Living Room where it’s always been.
I took my PS3 to the Doctor, and he said the PS3 is healthier than any other system, 360 sufers from a deadly Cancer, Wii suffers from lack of protein/features
July 30th, 2009
he also said PS3 third party support is growing more than ever.
if u didnt notice ur in a Demo’s Soul thread…one of many PS3 exclusive from 3rd parties companies
July 30th, 2009
Wow, Mike likes this game so much, he got the name wrong in the headline, all throughout the article, AND in his comment!
Also, I love how Harry always takes the time to post snores/yawns/etc whenever anyone is talking about a game he won’t be able to own. Poor guy. It’s a boring life without a PS3, isn’t it?

July 30th, 2009
Oh wow an exclusive from Japan. Hellooo These people support each other. Just in case you didn’t know Race comes before Business for these people.
July 30th, 2009
CAD,
it doesnt change the fact that it is a PS3 eclusive.
July 30th, 2009
“my PS3 is going to end up in my Living Room where it’s always been”
So how is it going to end up in your living room if it’s already there.
LOL
July 30th, 2009
Well that is just great for your exclusive. Let me know when the PS3 catches up in the exclusive race.
July 30th, 2009
‘Or better yet on First Party Support Only. LOL’
Don’t care. If all I can get is decent first party titles then so be it, its just like owning a Nintendo!
Besides, ill just get the other games for 360!
July 30th, 2009
if you count crappy exclusive that u wont even bother playing like Valve Assasins, Ninja Blade, Kingdom Under Fire, Battlestation, Infinity Undiscovery, Infernal Hells Vengeance, culdcept saga, NBA 2k6, Live 07 and Madden 06, Quake 4, Amped, Call of Duty 2, Peter Jackson’s King Kong, NHL 06 and Tiger Woods 06..etc..
Probably never…. I rather have less good exclusive than alot of crappy exclusive.
July 30th, 2009
Star Ocean 4 listed as a PS3 game on gameflys website. They mentioned that they got the info from the publisher (SE). I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
“Only on XBOX 360″ should read “Only on XBOX 360 for 6 months to a year”
July 30th, 2009
jajaja
“Only on Xbox while supply last”
July 30th, 2009
“Valve Assassins”, eh Roca? That sounds like a great game. I’d play a game where you go around assassinating all the guys who work for Valve.
-Arvis
July 30th, 2009
its like GT5: Prologue
something so ppl can get their hands on untill the Complete version with alo more feature come out.
July 30th, 2009
Arviss…….lmaoooooooooooooooo!!!
you convinced me…take Valve Assassins off the list.
July 30th, 2009
subtitled, “the hunt for Gabe”
July 30th, 2009
Well given the fact that Most of those games are great and appeal to certain genres makes you a little stupid doesn’t it! Even more stupid for throwing in Sports games form 06/07. I like how you avoid mentioning the even better games on the 360 But I don’t expect you to even try to make the 360 look good. I have yet to try some but Ninja Blade is actually not bad. The demo definately peeked my intrest. How about you throw me one of your list of non-proven new IP’s that will get pushed back to 2011 or some RPG’s that lack any real skill to play it. LOL LOL
July 30th, 2009
sports game or not there still 360 exclusive, and I didnt bother mentioning the decent titles because my list was a list of “CRAPPY 360 Exclusive”
you like ninja blade…that is fine i understand you didnt have anything new to play on ur system other than Ninja Blade. a real killer app.
what RPG are you talking about? lol
July 30th, 2009
“Ninja Blade is actually not bad. The demo definately peeked my intrest.”
Ninja Blade is not bad…..or do you mean the Demo was not bad
July 30th, 2009
Ninja blade looks good. It’s too bad they didn’t throw Halo in the title so the retarded 360 audience would help the sales of a new IP. sigh……
July 30th, 2009
I wasn’t a fan on NB. Felt like a poor mans DMC.
July 30th, 2009
I’ve watched gameplay videos of NB… looks pretty good, but it also looks like it abuses QTEs like a redheaded step child.
lol at CAD_Zune
July 30th, 2009
To me Ninja Blade is just like Ninja Gaiden just that it uses QTEs like Barnabe said. That is not a bad formula. It just was not advertised well. It basically showed up.
July 30th, 2009
@ Mike
“again let me reiterate – how does sales effect you in any way?
You guys should care about games and not the manufacturer of the piece of hardware.”
Heres why we care….Because if hardware is shipped well as we hope publishers like ACTIVISION wont threaten to pull support like they did with sony
TECMO wants sony to lower their price
point is less hardware sold the less software sold witch scares off developers to come to that system…your even gonna see the next metal gaer solid game on the 360 so that’s marketshare lost for sony…man ill keep my finger’s crossed but no one’s goin anywhere ant time soon
July 30th, 2009
They’re calling Sony out because they know how important Sony are.
Think about it. It’s only Sony that has proved to third parties that its consoles can absolutely dominate the market from the hardware and be extremely lucrative for software sales.
But the PS2 gravy train has all but dried up, and publishers don’t like it. They want the PS3 to replace it, and while it remains at such a high price, it isn’t going to do so.
But it’s clear that Sony don’t really care so much for third parties any more. All the big titles they’re promoting are their own. Look at their E3 conference for proof…across both the PS3 and PSP.
July 30th, 2009
I still blame blu ray for sony failing with the ps3. It forced the high price and now sony know even if they do decide to make a price drop and sell at a greater loss, ms will hit them with a knockout blow with another price drop of their own.
July 30th, 2009
And then the next generation starts and we get to do this all over again
July 30th, 2009
“again let me reiterate – how does sales effect you in any way?”
I know I didn’t let lack of sales get me down when I was playing my Dreamcast. After all, that thing had amazing exclusive game which is all that matters right?
July 30th, 2009
When it comes to RPGs, I am a masochist indeed. I feel a lot more in tune and driven to succeed in a gaming environment that pushes me to my limits of frustration and persistence. Too many years of endgame Everquest make so many current titles pale in comparison.
When a game is too easy (Assasins Creed, Bioshock or FF8 for example) it always feels like a slog. I mention these games because they make up for it by having incredible story lines with devotion to genuine and attractive characters. Many easy games do not.
Also, interplay during single player campaigns with other people who are playing (being pulled into a boss battle of another player, as the boss for example) excites me as a unique, progressive evolution of the genre.
Like I said, day one for me. I wish I didn’t have a job (lol) so I could chase the platinum trophy crown (since they chronologically track the players that achieve platinum) but since the work pays for the play, I’ll have to settle for not being on top in this one, hah.
July 31st, 2009
‘know I didn’t let lack of sales get me down when I was playing my Dreamcast. After all, that thing had amazing exclusive game which is all that matters right?’
But at this point, we’re way past that.
July 31st, 2009
Probably.
Microsoft did kill the XBOX early after 24 million in sales. You just can’t go on losing money forever.
July 31st, 2009
Typical CAD to post shit that is off topic.
This game looks interesting, and now they’re adding more to the bundle I think makes it a better buy.
I’m going to order mine from Playasia.
July 31st, 2009
The only problem with Playasia is they keep on sending you advertising emails.
My girlfriend doesn’t like it when I get emails from “playasia”
July 31st, 2009
@Cad “RPG’s that lack any real skill to play it”
@Cad “Just in case you didn’t know race comes before business”
Is “Demon Souls” not supposed be a kick-ass game and a very hard one at that? It sounds to me that Cad is just mad because it’s a PS3 exclusive?
And why are you talking about race Cad isn’t your X-box made by a white corporation? And assuming you look like your avatar (lol) your not white so I guess that kinda makes you a tratior if I go by your logic.
July 31st, 2009
“traitor”
I know I misspelled the word, typing to fast I guess.
July 31st, 2009
FAT PRINCESS! yeah!
July 31st, 2009
@ chris,
I posted that zzzz because this is another Demon’s Soul post. It’s been done, move on.
I don’t understand why there haven’t been any ODST articles posted, seeing that’s arriving in a matter of months. But then again, I am not surprised.
July 31st, 2009
ODST? What’s that? Sounds like an STD or something.
Seriously though, the Halo game is just an expansion. 3-5 hours or game play doesn’t deserve a full article.
Spoiler: ODTS will be the same as Halo 3.. which was the same as 2.. which was the same as the first one. ZZZZZZZ
July 31st, 2009
how many Post we have about NATAL or HALO MMO harry, but u really like those huh?
July 31st, 2009
Mike should write an article about Splinter Cell… and how it was delayed until next year
July 31st, 2009
Rhino – if you order from PlayAsia you will not get the bundle and you will not be able to play on US servers. Just a heads up.
Ghost – you are right. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought “these people support each other.” was a bit much.
July 31st, 2009

Crap double post.. sorry

Barnabe
Asians support Asians. If you don’t know that by know your heads been stuck up your ass. It’s not a racist thing because I have many Asian friends. It’s just a fact. Most of them buy from their own and support their own. They keep the money within their community. They stick to thier brands like Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, & Nissans for example. Maybe you don’t have many around you where you live but in Canada they rank 2nd next to White people so I think I know what I’m talking about.
July 31st, 2009
@ CAD
Aparrently, this is a rumor but an article at joystick stated the ps3 cut manufacturing cost by %70 witch was like $240 per unit….if this is true than at $400 per unit they’ll make $160 per unit sold
Maybe this is why were not seeing a price cut bc selling 160,000 units a month is maybe behind the xbox but is making more profit unit sold….
July 31st, 2009
kevo
Don’t forget that Sony said that whatever price-cut comes along they are not going to chop the price back to where the PS3 is no longer profitable verse its manufacturing costs.
That inevitably means that there’s no way they will use up all the ‘room’ they might have for a cut.
Then you have to add in the losses they as a whole entity are making.
When the company has just lost $1 billion in the last yearly numbers and has just publiched 1st quarter numbers showing them still losing money at an alarming rate I just don’t see them rushing to bleed money away at an even heavier rate.
July 31st, 2009
Happy why are you so concerne if Sony lose money or not?
July 31st, 2009
yeah does sound a little too good to be true type thing but why all these slim rumors goin around then?
maybe they’re getting ready for a holiday price cut
July 31st, 2009
Roca
I’m interested in the a/v business of which gaming is (probably no more than ever) a part. K?
kevo
I expect them to move some but I’d really be surprised if it came to much.
$50 off by the end of the year is my guess – and it won’t make that much difference because I’d expect the other 2 to match it, if not better it.
(which is something Sony are only too well aware of and this too is a reason why they are dragging their heels on the matter)
July 31st, 2009
Oops.
‘no’ = now
July 31st, 2009
@ Barnabe,
ODST being the same as Halo 3? Seeing that the main protagonist, Master Chief, isn’t going to be in ODST to start with, I highly doubt it’s going to be the same game. Without MC’s armor etc you’ve got to change your strategy with how you play this one, I am thinking more of a stealthy type of strategy rather than the ‘All Guns Blazing’ strategy. I am looking forward to this game as it goes off a tangent from the original Halo storyline and shows the war in the eyes of a regular drop shock trooper.
I heard that they have fleshed out the storyline to be longer than the original 4-5 hours planned also.
And I believe it includes all maps too, so it seems like quite a game.
So I don’t know where your zzzz’s are coming from, seeing that it hasn’t been touched here.
Roca/Ivan, what?
August 1st, 2009
zzzz…thats wat
August 1st, 2009
Excellent retort, Ivan/Roca.
August 1st, 2009
I’ll second that Zzzzz.. i mean c’mon, a 3-5hour campaign. I don’t epect it to revolutionize the FPS genre anytime soon. At least demon souls is something different.
August 1st, 2009
hahahaha so now it’s gone down to a 3-5 hour campaign, even though it’s been fleshed out? And what about the survival mode? And all of the map packs? Sounds like a varied game to me.
Demon Souls different? From what I have read, it’s just another dungeon crawler with a difficulty level that is guaranteed to frustrate most gamers. No thank you!
August 2nd, 2009
Yes, let us compare how revolutionary games we’ve not played are going to be!..
August 2nd, 2009
C’mon harry, its Halo 3.5, it won’t blow anyone’s mind, it is just capitilizing on the whole Xbot crowd that buy anything with Halo on it. You are smarter than that. Although perhaps not, as I am sure there will be some pricey DLC you will bend over for over and over again.
@SW at least demon souls has been played and revieved on the merits of its english Asia versions, giving us a pretty solid idea that fans of the genre will appreciate its innovation and difficulty. I guess we know what ODST will be like: a reskinned sidestory of Halo3.
August 2nd, 2009
JofaMang
What’s up with buying another one of a type of game you already like?
I have 2 COD games, I’ll definitely be buying the next one & if it comes up cheap enough on XBL I’ll maybe go for one of the early ones just for the sake of trying it out.
Will a new Halo be revolutionary?
Probably not – though I expect it to be a real looker.
So what?
It’ll undoubtedly be a good solid addition to the series.
What’s up with that?
Do you turn your nose up at the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th game in a series you like just cos they are sequels?
August 2nd, 2009
Jofa, I don’t believe anyone said it was Halo 4. It even has Halo 3 in the title, duh!
I don’t own Halo Wars, yet I plan on buying ODST. Does that mean i’m not an Xbot now? This game looks like a lot of fun, it’s an expansion to the Halo universe, it has all of the map packs and has the firefight mode, which is where I plan on spending a lot of time.
I never said it was going to be revolutionary.
On the topic of Demon’s Souls reviews, it’s averaging 88 on metacritc thanks in large to a 100 rating given to it from the well known and respected site ‘Acegamez’. The official playstation magazine gave it an 80, which is where I think it is going to hover once all reviews are in. Now 80 isn’t a bad score at all, however it doesn’t make it a blockbuster!
August 2nd, 2009
I was giving my reasons for understanding why this game deserves an article, and the poor comparison is drawn to ODST. Suck it up!
August 3rd, 2009
So you’re saying a game that’s probably going to be given a metacritic rating of around the low 80’s is worth three articles? Wow
August 3rd, 2009
I would have to ask why the Acegamez reviewers opinion is any less valid than IGN’s?
Lets face it now, WE all love to use metacritic as a bar for games, but c’mon, can’t we find something better than this? ‘How good a game is’ is currently decided by less than 100 people in the world out of a population of 6.5+ billion..
Insane. But if you keep using it, then Acegamez is just as valid as IGN until you can prove they were paid off or something…
I’m sure both games will suck big floppy donkey dicks.
August 3rd, 2009
I said it was a well known an respected site! Did I come across sarcastic? Me? Never!
August 3rd, 2009
“So you’re saying a game that’s probably going to be given a metacritic rating of around the low 80’s is worth three articles? Wow”
since ur are just guess games review score…let me join you at the guessing game..
Halo 3: STD score will be in the low 50’s (just like HALO WARS). is it worth an article? probably not
August 3rd, 2009
HAHAHAHA Halo Wars in the low 50’s??? It scored an 82, which is a solid score.
Fuck you’re an idiot Ivan/roca.
August 4th, 2009
6.5 on gamespot.
harry ur crush with Ivan dont apply here i dont roll ur way. you can keep fucking ur borther in law but dont try to hit on me.
you look like an idiot because u said u Demon’s Souls would be in the low 80. and you havent even played the game…I played Halo Wars and it suck big ass
August 4th, 2009
so 6.5 on Gamespot = low 50’s then? You’re just digging your hole even deeper Ivan/roca.
What is it with you and sucking things anyway? You’ve moved onto sucking big arse now?
August 4th, 2009
jaja ur funny but u lack common sense.
let put it in different words for you
Halo Wars = CRAP
the game was so bad that u didnt even buy the game, and ur one of those M$/Halo freaks
August 4th, 2009
If i was into the whole Halo Universe I’m sure ODST would be a nice addition. It should however not cost the same as other retail games ($60) considering its practically just a new gametype using all the maps you already bought for Halo 3 anyway.
August 5th, 2009
Demon Soul’s = kick-ass game
At least I hope it does.
August 5th, 2009
I’ve had some hands-on time with Demon’s Soul that is why I’ve been pushing it. Its a great title that deserves a lot of attention.
I’m looking forward to ODST as I mentioned previously, already looking at getting the ODST suit, but to be frank there is a black-out on ODST info.
Once I can get some hands on time with a pre-launch build I’ll talk about it.
