Valve messing up with Left 4 Dead 2 and L4D DLC
Left 4 Dead has become a popular online game amongst gamers. However, Valve the studio behind the game received some flak recently for announcing the sequel less than a year from the launch of the first game. It seems Valve isn’t helping things much by further splintering the fanbase with DLC for the game.
According to Edge Online (via Joystiq), the developers of Left 4 Dead announced a new downloadable campaign for the game. Many of the fans of the game were angry with Valve when the studio first announced that Left 4 Dead 2 would be releasing shortly after the first game at E3.
Now the gamers are even more riled up about the prospect of the new DLC for L4D not being compatible with L4D2. Normally one would not expect for the DLC of a previous game to work on a sequel, but the situation is a bit different for the series. The DLC is set to come out right before L4D2 is scheduled to release.
As a fan of L4D I can understand the dilemma many gamers are facing. Do you buy L4D2 or do you continue to invest in L4D despite the fact you may stop playing it soon? I know for a fact if I buy L4D2 I will never play L4D, so investing in DLC for the first game does not look appealing to me.
This situation has many gamers frustrated as the DLC is mainly perceived to be a knee jerk reaction to the mounting criticism over the announcement of L4D2. The folks at Valve may have shot themselves in the foot by announcing L4D2 so early in the game. Considering the fact that holiday 09 is looking fairly congested, it may not be a bad idea to push L4D2 into next year.

who cares. It costs $7 and free if you have it on the PC.
Maybe what they could do is make L4D2 cheaper for the people who buy it as a game on demand because they’ll have the dlc content tie in…..?????

demo was good. but it can get pretty boring. remember Batman dont kill, and dont use guns. his combat moves were a lil weak and it doesnt seem like there is a combat system like God of War were you can gain new move along the way. on top of that the enemeis were just standing there waiting to get hit.

Say what you want but I couldn’t care less. You guys tend to forget we have a hugh library, more then I can play. There are games I still need to play/finish. I would be extactic to if I owned a PS3 because you guys were being jipped on games for the first few years. But don’t get too hyped because we all know Sony is good at overhyping and all you have coming is unproven new IP’s. I guess Sony realized that all that Shovelware from the PS2 was garbage. Here’s hoping that your new IP’s are not more shovelware because a few of them have already hit that status.

plus.. we are getting a lot of the timed exclusives like Castle Crashers, Braid, Ninja gaiden, etc, etc
The PS3 will have even more higher rated titles by years end. This is what I’ve been trying to tell you guys all along. M$ is cheating you with there timed exclusives. They are flat out lying to there fans, and there fans are blind enough to not see through it.

Batman demo was decent. I think its more about swooping in/sleathing it rather than GoW like killing 50 enemies at one time

-Warhawk has clan support/join in/custom rooms/mic support what else do you need?
-Infamous oh please even the star wars game got a lower score than this.
-LittleBigPlanet = GOTY (over 100 awards alltogether)
-Heavenly Sword was great with top notch cinematics/action, The AI was one of the toughest I have encouter so far..only issues was it was a bit short
-Resistance every body with a PS3 loves the first one..second one has mix feelings.
-Motorstorm= Best off-road racing game. looks better than any racing game on the 360

Yeah. Pretty sure those release dates are 2006 and 2005 Barn. Using your standard of basing this off of Metacritic though, games rated 90 or higher:
360 (2005) – 20 titles rated above 90, avg 5/year
PS3 (2006) – 13 titles rated above 90, avg 4.33/year
360 (2005) – 262 titles rated above 75 – average of 65
PS3 (2006) – 168 titles rated above 75 – average of 56
360 (2005) – 64 titles scored above 85 – average of 16
PS3 (2006) – 53 titles scored above 85 – average of 17
So based on Metacritic, the 360 has received more titles per year rated 90 or higher, while the PS3 has received more titles rated in between 85-90, resulting in a higher number of top quality titles on 360. Of course this could change in the future, but only time will tell. In any case, what this really means is an owner of either console (or both) will have plenty of quality games to keep him/her occupied.

Forza 3 is also coming out this year. There is also Shadow Complex. And The Ballad Of Gay Tony. So along with the other games listed, it seems like a pretty packed lineup for this year, not forgetting the multiplats such as MW2 and Guitar Hero 5 (Avatar support on the 360 version).

What never heard of Shadow Complex before. Another GTA expansion pack i will pass. So you’ve played Forza 3 then Ivan? 3 Discs huh? That’s news to me. GT5 doesn’t even have a concrete release date, aren’t you sick of waiting for a driving simulator? By the time GT5 comes out the 360 would have had two come out, Forza 2 was fantastic and 3 looks to be even better. I still can’t believe you guys paid for the GT5 demo (Prologue).
Shadow Complex is the game that Epic is doing for XLA. Funny, for someone who claimed to have watched the Microsoft E3 presentation, you must not have been paying that much attention when Cliffy B was on stage. Why, I don’t believe you watched it at all.
You could class the Ballad Of Gay Tony as an expansion, or you could think of it as a new game within pseudo New York. Lost and damned was about 10-12 hours worth of play, which was a lot more than most games out there today. There’s no reason why Gay Tony will be any different.
Guitar Hero 5 is a rip off? Well opinions are like arse holes, everyone has one. I am happy that you think that the option of avatar support is crap, however whichever way you look at it, it’s an extra that is in the 360 version that isn’t making the PS3 version.

Not really. GT5:P released for $20 less to an audience frothing for anything GT related. Plus Gran Turismo has been on the market 3 times as long and one more console generation, 12 years instead of the relatively new Forza series which has only been out for 4 years. CarlB that’s not even an excuse…..GT5:P launch a few months after Burnout Paradise which is the KING of the Racing genre so far. and it also launched a few weeks before GTA4. which probably hurt GT5:P sales a bit.
It is an embarrassment to Forza because Forza did not have the same competition. also the 360 install base was huge compare to the PS3. and Forza 2 got better review than GT5P. on top of that Forza 2 was a full game compare to GT5:P 60 car Demo..and by the time GT5:P came out Forza was already cheap.
I wouldn’t be surprise if Gran Turismo PSP outsell Forza 3. (the car physics of GT are unmatch by any other racing)

GT5P is a lot more than any demo. Granted, it is nowhere near a full game, it was also priced as such. Non GT nuts may think it is PD soaking their fans, but as a huge GT fan, I was just glad to get a taste of the game long before the full version is released (20months if Dec launch).
And it is far more than just a taste. I am not complaining at all.
