Fat Princess patch fixes issues … sort of
Fat Princess has had a bumpy road since its launch. The developers have released a patch to address all of the connection issues and for the most part it has fixed many of the problems. However, it seems like it may not have fixed all of the issues.
Many of you may have been enjoying the goodness that is Fat Princess during this past week. The game has managed to bump Battlefield 1943 from its number one spot on the PSN. One of the biggest issues the game has been experiencing is the connection issues. The developers indicated that the connection issues stem from too many users hammering the servers and some matchmaking issues.
The fix has been deployed to address the connection and lag issues. According to Titan the patch also makes some minor tweaks to the scoring system to further balance things out. Most notably the Dark Priest AoE scoring has been reduced from 10 pts to 2 pts.
Here are the patch notes below:
- The server selection heuristic has been modified so that ping time has been more heavily weighted when selecting potential matches. This will result in players being connected to games in such a way that game population and ping are more evenly weighted.
- Newly hosted servers will be more attractive to potential clients and thus fill up more quickly. The change will also better distribute connection attempts among servers and thus reduce failed attempts.
- Potential servers will be given less time to respond to ping requests. This should speed up that portion of the connection process.
- Selected servers will be given more time to establish a connection, resulting in fewer failed attempts.
- The connection code is less sensitive to packets coming back out of order. This was a cause of failed connections.
- Ice Mage and Dark Priest AoE scoring has been adjusted from 10 points to 2 points per enemy affected.
- Non-worker resource return has been reduced from 20 points to 10 points.
- Feeding the princess has been reduced from 20 points to 15 points.
- Castle door hit points have been reduced slightly from 30 to 25.
- The Princess’ calorie burn has been increased at weight stage 2, 3, and 4. Calorie burn was previously 2 per second at all stages. Stage 2 is now 4 per second, stage 3 is 8 per second, and stage 4 is 12 per second.
Upon testing the new patch, match making seems to be dramatically improved for me. I was able to join a game with no problems. According to the devs you should be able to successfully join a game more than 75 percent of the time on the first attempt. However, the patch did not seem to work out all of the kinks with the connection issue.
It seems like Titan has also made some changes to the servers to better handle player load as well. The developers indicate that they are aware that the patch did not resolve all issues but they wanted to get a fix out there to address the most important ones first. They are working on another patch that will address some of the more minor issues found in the game.

August 9th, 2009
Man, those other threads below are totally out of control…some peace and quiet in here
I haven’t bought Fat Princess largely becuase of my gripe with the UK price, but also because the last two reviews I’ve seen have been pretty unfaovurable.
And it’s no surprise to see the EU pissing in the wind waiting for a patch.

I might download it later from my cousins account he bought it.

The game is really good, patch or no patch. I would say it’s the best PSN game I’ve bought since WipeOut.
I’ve been working SF IV, but I’ll be down for Fat Princess when ever you guys are ready. If we all work together we could kill the unsuspecting team we are playing against.

You guys are never going to believe it…
I will have a 360 Elite in a few weeks. My GF is moving in with a roommate who already has a 360, so she offered to let me borrow it. As long as the 360 doesn’t over heat and burn my house down, it should be pretty cool.

@LockDown – Ken Kutaragi, right? Truly a god among men.
@Ivan – well it can double as a space heater in the winter at least. The only game she has that I’m interested in is Lost Odyssey. Viva Piñata looks kind of meh.

Barnabe Jones:
Lost Odyssey is 4 disc and mediocre. The Xbox 360 sounds like a vacuum cleaner when you put it on is really loud as for Viva Pinata that game is awful horrible worst game ever made.
Ken Kutaragi is a visionary man with an awesome engineering brain. I love that he adores extreme technology.

Lost Odyssey is 4 disc and mediocre.
I can see that your lacking good RPG’s on the PS3 as your statement is completely ludacris. Lost Odyssey is amazing Barnabe and you will see it for yourself swaping all 4 disk and all. I would just put it on the HD if you have the space. I look forward to your review.

Lost Odyssey is indeed tits. CharlieB and I have finished it, so if you need any help with it just let us know.
I am in the middle of Blue Dragon at the moment. It’s not bad at all, much better than Last Remnant.
August 10th, 2009
I should have it with in the next few weeks. I have to wait until she finishes Overlord.
I’m looking forward to it. All of the games I want to check out should be pretty cheap now. It should keep my pretty busy for a while.

Lost Odyssey is bad maybe not horrible but Final Fantasy XII is better.
I myself don’t care for RPG games they bored me to death plus they are way too geeky for me.
harry sachz:
The Last Remnant was horrible i heard. I don’t know about Blue Dragon but what kind of name is Blue Dragon is sounds very corny LoL hopefully the game is decent.
Barnabe Jones:
Get ready for huge disappointments.
CAD:
LoL this is your best post yet LoL. You have to install the game on the HDD in order to avoid switching multiple disc. I thought that was for something else i have GTA IV install didn’t do much. Also most Xbox 360 have a tiny hard drive.
August 10th, 2009
Lost Odyssey is a good RPG, mayb is not as Epic as FF’s, DQ8, but is one of the best out there right now.
August 10th, 2009
Last Remnant wasn’t horrible, but it isn’t the best RPG out there. I found that if you didn’t do any sidequests and stuck to the story I ended up having to go back to the fields to level up, which was a pain.
Blue Dragon could have been named better, but it’s a pretty good game. I was playing it tonight, and had some chick with a nice pair of melons, a tube top and a camel toe join my group. God bless Japanimation.

I got to get back into this game. New York is seeing some beautiful weather as of late, and it’s harder and harder to find myself watching/playing TV then.
Its great they took care of this issue quickly. Why things get released without QA is beyond me.

I’m going to say yes and no.
Its wierd that we don’t worry about the other people constantly dying from war, disease, & famine constantly all over the world
But most of us don’t.
We’re only human I suppose…
