Xbox 360 price cut imminent – going to war with the PS3
When Sony announced the PS3 Slim last week it must have known Microsoft was going to fight back. The PS3 Slim has generated all of the gaming headlines over the past week and that’s clearly not good for the Xbox 360. What to do, what to do? How about hefty price cuts for the Xbox 360 Elite and Pro? Yeah, that should do nicely.
Sony only announced the PS3 Slim a fortnight before its release, partly to keep people buying the current SKUs so that it didn’t get saddled with thousands of unwanted consoles, and partly to prevent Microsoft from taking the wind out of its sails. It probably succeeded on the first score but it looks like Microsoft could be about to overshadow the launch of the PS3 Slim somewhat.
First came a prediction by EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, who told TG Daily a couple of days ago that he expected Microsoft to lower to price of the Xbox 360 substantially by the end of this week. The Xbox 360 Elite could be cut to $299, with the Pro discounted to $249 before being phased out entirely before the end of 2009.
Now, MCV is claiming Microsoft will make an announcement regarding the future of the Xbox 360 today (Aug. 27). The site is reiterating the price cuts for the Elite and Pro and the phasing out of the Pro within 90 days. Changes could also be coming to the Xbox 360 Arcade, although no one seems clear yet whether that means also means a price cut or whether some bundled games or even a hard drive may be included from here on in.
I suspect Microsoft will cut the prices of all three models, phase the Pro out and add a hard drive to the Arcade to make it an absolute bargain entry-level Xbox 360. The price cuts are likely to come into force on Sunday, two days before the PS3 Slim officially goes on sales.
If this does prove to be the case then this holiday season may not be such an assured victory for Sony and the PS3 Slim after all. In fact, this could be one of messiest, but most fun to watch, console battles for years. And the big winners will of course be the consumers, who’ll be able to pick up the console of their choice for the lowest price this generation yet.
I suppose the only question remaining is whether or not Nintendo will enter the price war or not. With the PS3 and Xbox 360 cheaper options than ever before I can see them both cutting into the Wii’s admittedly huge lead over them by the beginning of 2010 unless Nintendo acts fast.

Slims are already on sale as of today in Canada for $299. PS3 for $299 is an awesome value, regardless of what the other consoles are selling for. If the Elite gets a price cut then great, I will likely pick one up. Everyone needs to take a fucking pill and chill out. This crap is getting out of hand!

PLAYSTATION 3 has awesome exclusive games for this and next year. While Xbox 360 has Halo: OSDT a expansion pack how lame LMFAO, this holidays belongs to Sony corp.
August 27th, 2009
Didn’t all of Sony’s exclusives get delay until next year……. or the year after?

Just got the Slim today through Amazon (no tax either). I have to say, this thing is solid and silent running. It’s not as small as I thought it would be, but I never had an original PS3 either. I’m playing Uncharted now, and while it’s not as “amazing” (graphically or gameplay wise) as Ivan says, it is a good bit of fun. I can see how this would have come across with a lot more force two years ago though. I would have to agree with Ivan though… what does Microsoft have coming this holiday season to match Sony’s lineup? They spent almost the entire Gamescom talking about 1 game, and it’s not even due out this year.
August 27th, 2009
My impression was Uncharted was going to be released this year but all the big hitters like FF13, GoW3 and GT5 were all 2010.
August 27th, 2009
carlB:
Is amazing you know it. LoL lvl 18 or 19… Halo: OSDT please that’s a joke i will download it and try it. Sony got this holidays locked and loaded is no mercy fro Microsoft.

me_:
GT5 is this year they said. And we all knew GOWIII was for 2010 they didn’t decide that the development of the game did is not ready yet. And as for FFXIII that’s Square-Enix not Sony, actually no that’s Microsoft’s fault. Still PS3 has better games.
August 27th, 2009
Okay, wait a sec, I just reviewed this year and it looks pretty evenly matched, all things considered, at least considering the major releases:
Sony:
Gran Turismo 5
Uncharted 2
Demon’s Souls
Free Realms
360:
Forza Motorsport 3
Halo 3 ODST
Magna Carta 2
Left 4 Dead 2
August 27th, 2009
You forgot Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in time.
August 27th, 2009
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
EyePet for Europeans
And Left 4 Dead is also for PC.
Halo: OSDT is a expansion pack
August 27th, 2009
@Carlb “I have to say, this thing is solid and silent running.” good to know, whats your psn id?
August 27th, 2009
@Carlb It does look even. It’ll probably just come down to how much of a price cut the 360 gets.

me_:
If Microsoft is going to do a price cut this year it will be most likely $50. I never seen them slash $100 right away. Even if they put it for $300 people will still see is not enough value with Sony you get Blu-ray player and WiFi plus a huge upgradeable HDD and the ability to store music video photo without having to burn it or own like Xbox has you doing. No matter what they do they are in deep trouble.

Sorry Ivan I just don’t see people suddenly discovering the added value of a Blu Ray drive in a games console. If that was going to happen it would have happened by now.
I picked up a Blu Ray player myself a couple of weeks ago. I thought about a PS3 but there are better options out there now.

Why should i be upset? LoL You should be upset by making dumb mistake like buying a standalone Blu-ray player. People can buy what ever they want is their money if want to lose it buying a Xbox that’s fine with me i don’t care.

Price cuts with the 360 will only take you so far. I mean it’s cheap enough already, any cheaper you’ll be entering the realm of the PS2.
Give people the chance to give people a free PS3 or a free 360 and people would prefer a PS3.
August 27th, 2009
Bourne:
Correct you are. But most gamers are too cheap so they think if Sony lowers (which they did) the price they want Microsoft to follow and do the same. And i think even though the Xbox 360 basically has no exclusive left and a is getting a new Halo expansion pack. They will continue to buy the Xbox 360 just for the multiplaform games which is really stupid why not just get a PS3. And yes anyone that’s lucky enough to pick a PS3 or Xbox 360 we all know they will chose PS3 common sense.
August 27th, 2009
MS lowers price of 360 … check mate. Mind the ps5th slim should give sony the massive jump in sales it needs like all the “exclusive awesome game” in the past have done.
Bourne – I would take the 360 over the ps5th anyday. More/better games. In fact I would pay for the 360 and then take the free ps5th and sell it. Good times.
Ivan – The 360 has no more exclusives. Maybe that you know of. I just saw a trailer for District 9 last night and apparently its an awesome film. But last week I didn’t know it exisited. Just proving a point.
And I think you put too much emphasis on how important exclusives are to a console. Lets face it, the people that want a ps5th for GT5 or GOW3 will have it already for LBP and Metal Gear “the movie game” Solid 4.
The new £199 price point of the 360 Elite has just popped it under my “impulse buy” threshold. And while I do genuinely think that the ps5th slim is a step in the right direction and nowhere near as trash worthy as the big de-humidifier model before it, I still will not be buying one.
August 27th, 2009
Oh and did I read correctly that GT5 (the only game worth getting a ps5th for) will have damage. At last.
But is it right that it will be limited to a select few cars only! If this is right can I ram my tank like Volvo S70 into my paper like Lotus Elise and the Elise will be without scratch yet the Volvo will be mess???
Gran Tourismo 5 – “The Real Driving Simulator”. Try saying that without laughing.

I saw the elite with a controller deal for $299.
So, it finally works itself to have both consoles $299 for the better value console.
I don’t think the arcade with move in price. $200 is a sweet spot, and so far nothing is coming close to that price. I believe we’ll see games offered with the arcade again before it sees a price cut.
This should all make for a very interesting Holiday season.
I don’t think the wii will bother to drop in price. They’re selling by the buttloads so I can’t see any reason for Nintendo to try and compete for price with the other two.
August 27th, 2009
phranctoast:
“I don’t think the wii will bother to drop in price. They’re selling by the buttloads so I can’t see any reason for Nintendo to try and compete for price with the other two.”
Agree.
For as long as they hold a 50,000 or so margin over 2nd place (and their DS is doing so incredibly well) I doubt they’re too worried about their recent drop in sales.
I would expect something from them a bit later, something smart like a big value bundle of a Wii & Wii Fit in one direction and a nice deal on the DS aimed at those looking to add to a ‘main’ console from the other 2 in time for X-mas.
August 27th, 2009
I think there holiday lineups are pretty evenly matched at this point.
There’s no reason why the Elite shouldn’t be marked down to $299. It’s a given at this point. Now that both are at the $299 point, hopefully it should start having an impact on the over priced Wii. And in the end, that will benefit all of us.
August 27th, 2009
And just to built off of that… I think 360 and PS3 fans and the media waste too much time fixating on PS3 vs 360, while the Wii quietly gets a pass and slips under the radar.
The Wii has the poorest Software, hardware, and pricing out of all 3, yet still continues to sell. I think if the media and fans took the time to expose the Wii for what it is, it could help.
August 27th, 2009
people love the wii for the gimmick it is. It would probably doing well at a higher price tag as well due to that.
August 27th, 2009
WOW I thought by now in the conversation that we would be past the past tense conversation because now it is a reality. I got to read up more but the Price drop is official.
Ivan I can’t believe your getting all pissey because “me” chose to buy a stand alone Bluray player. I was thinking about picking up a $100 LG model I saw this week.
Sure you can get a PS3 and get both but really my resources can only support 1 game console and I don’t want to have to think about both. I’m quite happy with my 360 and the bigger library and selection because I’m only intrested in 2 games and Carl B did not make Uncharted sound all that great so now it might be 1 game I’m intrested in so really there is no value in that. I rather have my 360 and a bluray player so I can spend on 1 system and movies and not 2 systems and movies. Blurays are expensive enough and I’m quite happpy with upconversion.
August 27th, 2009
Did you guys hear the rumour about Dreamcast 2. The spces sound amazing. I only wonder if it is for real.
August 27th, 2009
CAD, what article did you see about the Dreamcast 2? The rumors have been flying around for years now, I doubt it will ever happen.
August 27th, 2009
I’ll take a wild guess and say, it’s not true.
for one, I really doubt it would have dreamcast name anyway associated with it. Sega has never “renamed” a system with a number,
sega master system
genesis
32X
saturn
dreamcast.
Even if they did. There are not that many Sega franchises I like. I hear VC is great, and I’m really looking forward to Bayonetta, but these are new franchises and have yet to be established.
August 27th, 2009

Which BD player did you go for?
August 27th, 2009
I have never seen a $100 blu ray player. If I have I would pick it up as to not have wear and tear on the ps3 for that function.
August 27th, 2009
I posted up (but got snagged by moderation) a Sharp BP HP21 on sale in the UK @ £57.49 ($93 US/$112 AUS).
We also just had a no-name brand one (Curtis which is a MEDION rebrand) for £39.97 ($65 US/$78 AUS).
Both at nationwide big chains.
August 27th, 2009
I hear the Dreamcast 2 comes packaged with a flying pig
August 27th, 2009
Phrac – agree 100%. Sega has managed a few good games this gen, but nothing that would be able to sustain a whole console.
August 27th, 2009
friggin USA
August 27th, 2009
so far the elite is nowhere to be seen in amazon. PS3 is still at the #1 spot and Uncharted went all the way up to the 23rd spot, just above COD:MW2 for the x360
August 27th, 2009
That is because the price drop is for tomorrow.
August 27th, 2009
“I have never seen a $100 blu ray player.”
Are you kidding me. Talk about having your blinders on. You can even find one at Best Buy.
August 27th, 2009
Yes I agree Sega has had some shitty games lately. I did enjoy “The Club” though.
August 27th, 2009
We won’t be able to truly gauge how either system was affected by the price drops until at least Mid October.
August 27th, 2009
“CAD, what article did you see about the Dreamcast 2?”
I don’t remember I saw it a while back I just decided to mention it.
August 27th, 2009
honestly CAD, I really never thought about being in the market for one.
I saw the one referenced, and it comes with composite cables.
-figured Happy at least would get a kick out of that.
Was the Club any good? The demo turned me off to it

lol
Retrograde step from Microsoft & a refusal to step forward at all from Sony in my opinion.
The flip side could just be that with all but one ’survey’ saying that HD TV is still a minority pusuit even in the US (and Europe quite a bit behind the US in that – with 1 or 2 small exceptions we did not really go through the CRT HD TV phase) the majority don’t need HDMI and won’t for some time yet.
August 27th, 2009
I have component and dvi in mine.
damn laser tv’s need to come down in price.
August 27th, 2009
Laser has really surprised me, I admiy.
Maybe it would have been better if it had been in someone elses hands other than Mitsubishi?
The pricing is wildly out of step & therefore unlikely to bother most of us and even the image quality which ought to be beyond anything out there right now is not quite living up to the hype.
(didn’t they also have a round of recalls?)
The shame is that we lost SED to the stupid legal battles that surprise surprise kept it off the market for years allowing LCD/LED & Plasma a free run.
SED would have been late to the party of course but it really did have jaw-dropping performance, big sizes and costs which should have fallen like a stone had it gotten the volume production (which is another reason why it was hated by the CE corps = lower margins).
Still, with OLED up next and at least couple of years away from being at all relevant
(wtf cares about a wildly expensive 11″ Sony or even a ridiculously ewxpensive 32″ Samsung?)
we at least have some rapidly improving and relatively cheap LCD/LED HD TVs to be going on with.
Connections?
HDMI 1.4 is up next along with Display Port.
(and yes, natually HDMI 1.4 is not b/c with the earlier versions)
Nobody makes anyone early adopt but the pace of change right now is giving little a chance to settle down and establish properly before the next big deal comes along.
There’s a lot of chatter today that this round of price-cuts is it for this gen.
Next year will see Sony try to pre-empt Microsoft with PS3.5/PS4 and Microsoft releasing Natal Xbox which isn’t really a 360 at all.
Tech & rumours eh?
Don’t you just love it?
August 27th, 2009
By the way….new X360 Exclusive Brave: A Warrior’s Tale is selling like HOT CAKES!!
Happy:
“Retrograde step from Microsoft & a refusal to step forward at all from Sony in my opinion.
you gotta be kidding right?? you are saying that base on a simple cable….but if you look at the 2 system you can clearly see which one is more future prove.
August 27th, 2009
When I heard about the 5 versions of HDMI 1.4, I was blown away. Who do these regulatory bodies answer to? Who will take the guff when the average consumer is completely baffled by the snakes-and-ladders compatability chart that 1.4 brings to the table.
How the hell did we go so long without multiple iterations of RCA cable, or Coaxial for that matter, lol.
August 27th, 2009
I would have been pissed at getting composite cables in my ps3 if I didn’t already have component for the ps2, and both have the same video output (the other one besides hdmi)
August 27th, 2009
roca
Seriously, forget that advertsing BS ‘future proof’, there’s no such thing.
It’s just playing a little guessing game with yourself and hoping that things stay the same long enough so you can flatter yourself over your buying choices.
Of course a cable in itself isn’t such a big deal (I already posted that I was buying quality HDMI 1.3 cables for under £3 and getting HDMI 1.3b cables for under £7).
It does give us a (little) indication of where the market lies right now, and IMO it’s disappointing.
Even if I take up your invitation, tell me, what’s not ‘future proof’ about Xbox?
It uses DVD (which I’d bet my house on not only out-lasting Blu-ray but staying well ahead of Blu-ray as the bigger optical media in the market).
It uses USB2.
It was built around on-line gaming & the whole XBL/digital distribution ‘thing’.
It has hundreds and hundreds of games of all sorts from all the independant devs.
More than anyone will ever actually buy.
It is, by all accounts, cheap and easy to program for which should guarantee its longevity – even after it is no longert made if you really want to hang on to one.
So what, exactly?
You have a BD drive in the PS3.
That’s it, that’s the 1 thing you’re making big claims about.
It’s really not all that.
August 27th, 2009
SEGA’s good games this gen:
*Valkyria Chronicles
*Valkyria Chronicles 2 (maybe)
*Phantasy Star (PSP)
*Phantasy Star 2 (maybe)
*Alpha Protocol (maybe)
*Resonance of Fate (maybe)
*Alien’s vs Predator (big maybe)
So a lot of maybes…
August 27th, 2009
Was the Club any good? The demo turned me off to it
Yeah the demo as I remember was downgraded from what actually came out but it was OK. I only recommend it as a practice for other shooters. It’s like a series of time trials where you perform combos and gain as many points before the time runs out as you make your way to the safety room. In a way it’s kinda reminds me of Left 4 Dead but L4D is a wayyy better game.
August 27th, 2009

+1
This kind of rapid change is unlikely to win over the mass-market…..and surely if things are to survive long enough to mature and deliver on their intial promise that is exactly what is needed?
August 27th, 2009
Iused to like my mates Virtua Cop games.
Would be a perfect game for playing with a gun & the Natal/motion control stuff.
August 27th, 2009
happy.
I really don’t understand how you can short change the fact that the ps3 has a blu ray player in it.
For me, it was one of the helpful deciding factors.
I understand you already have a blu ray player, and spec wise it is better. CAD appears interested in a blu ray player.
From here alone we can see that theres some people leaning towards it.
Perhaps theres people out there that wanted both and were waiting for that special price for them.
To me it seems like something ridiculous for exclude when it’s obvious that at least “some” people care about it.
August 27th, 2009
phranctoast
I’m not short-changing anybody anything.
I can see that if you have an HD TV and you are into gaming and you want a Blu-ray player it’s got to be up for consideration.
Consideration mind you, it’s no shoe-in IMO.
I’m just questioning the idea that in and of itself a Blu-ray player is a massive deal.
Just like with the PS2 and DVD.
Before you know it the video player stand-alones will be $50 or less and hardly a consideration at all.
But, like I said, I’d bet the house that DVD not only out-lasts Blu-ray full stop but that it remains (by far) the dominant optical media not only for movie-watching at home but also as data storage for PC etc.
Feel free to dsagree if you like but I think i have the numbers on my side in this one.
August 27th, 2009
DVD’s proliferation accelerated with affordable RW drives and media for computers. BD has be horrible in that regard, so far, but the prices are dropping.
I know that I would love to see $1/disc pricing and sub $100 burnera, but that is a LONG way off, if we ever even get there.

Burners are equally pointless, the LG seems to get a good review but it’s around the £150 level – $243 US/$290 AUS.
What’s the point when 500gb HDDs (or larger) are so cheap?
You can even buy 2 and Raid them to safeguard your stuff if you’re really convinced you’ll need them.
August 27th, 2009
“I’m not short-changing anybody anything.”
uhhhh..I guess not.
You essentially eliminate the “blu ray player is in the ps3″ bulletpoint whenever it’s brought up.
I will disagree with you after I consult my psychic.
August 27th, 2009
phranctoast
Well, ok, you no doubt you will see it as a ‘the’ massive deal and I just don’t.
It’s too niche and with the flop that Blu-ray is, as anything else other than video/PS3, I just don’t see that changing.
They really have missed the boat for PC.
I don’t believe the size argument (for games) as being anything even close to a ‘real’ issue (stacks of cut HD FMV scenes is not my idea of ‘essential’ game play).
PS3 is also lumbered with reputably being hard to code for.
I’m sorry, it’s just not my idea of a ‘must buy’.
I think anyone who is into a/v would be better off buying a proper stand-alone
(besides speed of loading…..a matter of seconds…..there’s nothing there that stands out as exceptional in video playback, the DVD upscaling is less than stellar and the Blu-ray video playback is no longer rated as the best – although the slim’s new ability to bitstream HD audio properly is welcome).
Once you’ve gone for the higher quality a Blu-ray stand-alone offers, seriously, what is the poiint of PS3?
To me it’s a waste of money on stuff I just don’t want or need.
August 27th, 2009
Happy: “Well, ok, you no doubt you will see it as a ‘the’ massive deal and I just don’t.

what a hypocrite u are to ur self after you went and purchased a stand alone BD player…..so it was a massive deal to you because you cashed out extra money to get it.

Wow.
Just wow.

sooo… the elite really is dropping the hdmi cable.
Now it only has composite.

August 27th, 2009
I have watched Blu-rays, HD DVD’s, and HD Downloads through the 360. I have yet to see a difference between the three. I have a little movie collection I started when HD DVD went down but in the end I feel the same way I did before I bought it, which is what is the point of owning a Movie on Disk. I watched all my HD DVD’s and now they just sit there. Once you see a movie what is the point of watching them over and over again. Maybe I’ll watch them again in 2-3 years but it was a waste of money. Renting (which I hardly ever do), On Demand from my cable company, On Demand from the 360, and going to the movies is just fine for me or whenever it shows up on TV or the Movie Network is good enough for me plus the occasional pirated movie. Therefore a Bluray players is just not that necessary. DVD’s are cheaper and upconversion is good, not Bluray good, but it’s not that drastic of a difference.
August 27th, 2009
Even if I owned a Bluray players I would rent/watch DVD’s for it as it upconverts too. If it was very action packed like GI Joe I would have to watch it in HD as I believe not every movie deserves HD.
August 27th, 2009
Renting sounds like it would be your friend CAD.
One could make the same argument for games as well, if a game doesn’t have a solid mp campaign that is.
August 27th, 2009
wow i just realized that slim will save me alot on electricity per month…talk about passing your savings on to us sony…something ms will never do
August 27th, 2009
Roca”
what a hypocrite u are to ur self after you went and purchased a stand alone BD player…..so it was a massive deal to you because you cashed out extra money to get it.”
You really don’t get it, do you?
I bought an excellent Blu-ray player to enjopy my movies on
(and at a time when PS3 couldn’t even handle HD audio properly too).
WTF is in the least bit “hypocritical” about that?
It seems that you imagine that because I’m not into a PS3 and think Blu-ray will never be the dominant video format that even comes close to taking a market share like DVD that I should then ‘hate’ it?
Nope, doesn’t work like that, your own narrow little ‘fanboy outlook is for you alone, not everyone else, thanks.
lock_down
Well you tell me then, verses the Xbox and knowing I have Blu-ray covered already what on earth is the point of my buying a PS3?
I can’t see a reason.
A handful of exclusive games?
Pfffhhhh.
Xbox already offers me more than I will ever buy as it is.
CAD
With high-end kit you can discern a difference. But it is marginal.
I have seen HD DVD, Blu-ray & DVD player on a quality 1080p projector at 100″ screen size.
Blown up that large DVD is definitely the poor relation.
The thing is most people don’t have that sort of super-sized screen – and never will either.
At 32″ – 50″ (the mass-market sizes) all can look good.
One of the things about high definition is that when it’s discussed many talk as if every Blu-ray (or for that matter HD DVD) was the most amazing transfer ever.
Lots aren’t.
Lots look barely better than an upscaled DVD…..and the quality of DVD transfers also differs too. Some are superb and some so-so.
You’re right about still needing DVD (assuming you love film).
There are about 100,000 movies on DVD and about 1200 on Blu-ray (which tend to be mainly newer movies).

Actually that’s a silly point to make in the ‘verses Xbox’ side of things
(tho I do applaud the greater energy efficiency of any CE unit) .
You’ll find that every SKU version of the Xbox from original Xenon, to Falcon to Jasper has also reduced the energy consumption.
August 27th, 2009
HH i applaud as well
August 27th, 2009
Ooops, just had a look at the stats.
1745 ‘titles’ (not all are films) are now listed as out on Blu-ray.
My bad.
August 27th, 2009
Savings galore!!!!
Ill be writing a letter to Sony thanking them for allowing me to buy an extra subway sandwhich every 5 years…
HH – ‘what is the poiint of PS3?’
To play the games you can’t get on the 360 silly! (Yes I already know they don’t interest you/its too expensive for you to want it for X amount of games…)
August 27th, 2009
CAD:
“Even if I owned a Bluray players I would rent/watch DVD’s for it as it upconverts too.”
I’d stick with keeping your existing DVD player going if you can.
There’s a very expensive Denon and the new $500 Oppo *might* be the exception but besides that one I don’t know of any Blu-ray player that plays DVD-Audio and SACD.
Naturally these are also niche products but for those who value the audio quality it is a consideration.
I’m happy to keep my Pioneer DV600 for all my non-Blu-ray & HD DVD needs, it’s a small unit and a fine player in its own right.
August 27th, 2009
SW
“Yes I already know they don’t interest you/its too expensive for you to want it for X amount of games”
Thank you.
At last someone is prepared to say so & be honest about it.
If you already have Blu-ray then verses the Xbox 360 (Elite in my case too so the 120gb is matched) it only offers a handful of exclusive games – but the Xbox offers overall more games and more games with a higher score.
If you don’t care about blu-ray at all this all holds true too.
If anyone thinks there’s something missed here & wants to let me know what it is then go ahead, i’ve been asking this for ages and besides SW’s honest answer most of the responses (admittedly from Ivan/Roca) invariably swerve the point.
August 27th, 2009
I think he was being sarcastic.
August 27th, 2009
It’s official……..xbox has made a $100 and £30 price cut on the elite
August 27th, 2009
No I really wasn’t. Sorry Barnabe my BatFriend!
Point I was really trying to make is that if you’re happy with the Xbox, great. If you’re happy with the PS3, or Wii, great!
If you want to have access to EVERY game released for current gen systems (& PC), then buy everything.
Each machine has its own merits. I purchased the PS3 for my reasons (which didn’t include blu ray at all fyi). But I wanted stuff you could only get on xbox, so I purchased that too. Whoopee for me
August 27th, 2009
That sounds about right. I will actually have an Elite after this weekend.
The only downside is class starts next week, so it’s game over for my free time.
August 27th, 2009
“Carl B did not make Uncharted sound all that great”
CAD, don’t get me wrong… it is great and very fun to play, just not as “amazing” as Ivan makes it sound graphically and gameplay wise (which isn’t a gig on the game, it’s just Ivan tends to get a little over zealous at times when it comes to all things Playstation). I actually have more trophies in game than he does because he hasn’t played it since the patch. The further I get into it the more fun it gets, so I wouldn’t strike it from your list just yet.
Personally, I do not have a Blu-ray player, so the Slim’s will come in handy for me. Right now I’m watching Lost on 360’s HD streaming Netflix and waiting for the Watchmen Blu-ray to come in from Netflix.
IGN’s head to head review gives the 360 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum a slight (very slight) graphical edge over PS3 (Unreal Engine… gotta love it), but the PS3’s Joker missions gave it the win in their opinion.
Personally, I also think the trophies are superior to achievements/gamerscore system, but this is just an initial impression.
August 27th, 2009
CarlB
How’s your audio set-up?
Now that PS3 can do proper HD audio bitstreaming you’re 1 HDMI cable and a decent HD receiver & speaker package away (yeah, I know, but nevertheless) from audio quality transparent to the movie master.
Not sure how that translates with games (everything I’ve seen so far seems to be Dolby Digital) but some movies give the audio stuff a real ‘bowel loosening’ workout.
August 27th, 2009
carlB:
We all know UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune is perfect in every way. And yes trophies are superior to achievement common sense. Batman is definitely better for PS3.
August 27th, 2009
“Batman is definitely better for PS3.”
What are you basing that on Ivan/Roca?
Oh yeah that’s right……nothing
August 27th, 2009
I have it for PS3. If there are any differences, they have to be pretty minor. I haven’t really noticed any texture pop-ins, or anything else worth noting.
I didn’t read the article because it’s prompting me for a log in. Do they actually have any pictures or specific examples?
Uncharted is a great game. Just wait until you actually find El Dorato. As you noted it is already 2 years old. At the time of it’s release, it was one of the best looking games to date. It looks like the sequel is going to surpass it in every way.
August 27th, 2009
Barnabe Jones:
Yup no doubt about it UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves will be the best game this year can’t wait to play it especially online.
August 27th, 2009
“In the Red Corner: The XBots!”
They must feel right at home then
August 27th, 2009
HH,
I already had an HDMI for the laptop (rarely used since Netflix went on 360) that I am using for the Slim. It works nicely with the optical cable I already had, but only outputs Dolby Digital in an adv. surround mode that my Pioneer Receiver has. It’s good enough for me, but I am not an audiophile… it says Dolby Digital Pro Logic II/DTS 96/24 w/192kHz 24 bit D/A Converter (greek to me, but it sounds okay).
Ivan,
Actually, there is quite a bit of pop-in and deformed graphics in several areas, colors change on the entire screen at times for no apparent reason, draw distance is fairly bad with noticeable fog in places (where there wouldn’t be fog), you can’t jump on certain things that are right in front of you and well within jump height, characters (and environment objects) can get pretty jaggy or look like they are behind a screen in cutscenes, explosions, fire, and smoke are not realistic looking as in other console games, a.i. can be cheap, dumb, or unrealistic at any given time, the load times can be long (damage taken the same way – I wish I could just have some black and white vision for awhile and then heal automatically in a few seconds after getting shot), so no, it’s not “perfect” as you say (no game is), but it is fun, which is all that really matters.
Barnabe,
They do have pictures but I haven’t analyzed them. They say the 360 version looks sharper in gameplay, but especially the cutscenes. I’ll probably wind up renting the PS3 version because of the Joker missions and the graphical differences are said to be very minor.
August 27th, 2009
@CON, of course it’s better on PS3, it has the Joker content.
Uncharted was good. It wasn’t the greatest but it was very good.
August 27th, 2009
@carlb
if your looking for “real” gameplay, go with killzone 2…it does get a little repeatative but other than its a pretty intense game…since your in the military you’ll understand the movements of your character meaning weapons, armor, etc can weigh a man down
August 27th, 2009
Rhino,
Thanks for the reality check on Uncharted. It’s good to hear balance every once in awhile.
KSCA08,
MSgtBUSMC for PS3
USMC MSgt B for 360
Thanks… it’s on my list (I also liked KZL on PSP), but I think I’ll take a look at MGS4 and Valkyria first… undecided right now.
August 28th, 2009
Where the hell is the PSN content today?
August 28th, 2009
UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune is amazing the graphics are jaw dropping the story is great and the gameplay rules. My only wish for Uncharted 1 was answer with the sequel online play was my wish.
carlB:
let me know what games you got so we can play online.
August 28th, 2009
the story is what made uncharted what is now…setting it up 4 a even better sequel(thats where u’ll find the your better textures, gameplay, etc) but uncharted 1 wasn’t graphically great and same goes with gameplay gameplay… but overall good game
August 28th, 2009
Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:
You really think that wow the game was awesome and still is in graphics gameplay well everything. The only thing that was missing was online.
August 28th, 2009
Uncharted might not look as good as Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2 but other than those two its pretty hard to find a game at the level of the first uncharted (graphically). Granted Carlb might not be as impressed as most ppl were in 2007, but as you go through the story you will find ur self enjoying the game more.
The gameplay was pretty solid to me compare with the likes of Tomb Raider, and other 3rd person shooters..
August 28th, 2009
Well graphically is still amazing. The game is still impressive. Tomb Raider has good graphics but as good as UNCHARTED.
August 28th, 2009
I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll only say that the dark sections near the end were some of the more atmospherically intense stages I have ever played. It is a game that, through the storyline, has a linear growth in difficulty and intensity. Few games have sucked me in like that.
August 28th, 2009
Almost at the end i like the twist pretty cool.
August 28th, 2009
dont get me wrong i love it and the graphics/gameplay are great….for 2-3 yrs ago…uncharted 2 will be mindblowing
August 28th, 2009

August 28th, 2009
I have everything from Killzone 2 but i still play all my games and Uncharted loks better then most games this year.
August 28th, 2009

the 3rd Map pack just added a whole lot more of replayability to CoD WaW….I’m currently playing batman but if you see me on just msg me and i will play with you.

@roca i agree it did make the game funner…i sure will man
August 28th, 2009
Not my game. Doesn’t work at least not for me.
August 28th, 2009
Just an FYI Ivan, I am playing Uncharted (2007) after RE5 (2009) just to give you an idea of where I am coming from (unfair comparison I know).
Granted, Uncharted is great stuff for two years ago and still loads of fun today (which says a lot in itself), just not “perfect” (IMO) as you said Ivan. BTW, you should give batman a try via rental and spend some more time on it than what the demo allows for, I think you might like it.
August 28th, 2009
I might download the full game for Xbox 360 and burn it. I usually just buy PS3 SCE exclusives.
August 28th, 2009
@ Ivan
“I usually just buy PS3 SCE exclusives”
wow Ivan I didnt know ur Love for Sony went that far.
@ CarlB,
u are right!! there is no such thing as a Perfect game (well mayb FF7 lol), but IMO Uncharted is way better than R.E 5 on every single aspect/category. R.E 5 didnt meet my expectations. the co-op was the only good thing going for that game.

Hey Carl B I want to know something. Don’t answer now but a month after you have spent some time with the PS3 I would like to know a detailed opinion on LIVE vs PSN. You seem to be the unbias out of the bunch so I would love to hear your opinion. So I just wanted to put it out there so when I ask again you can give an opinion.

Typical desperate fanboy question. Get a fucking PS3 and stop asking and if you hate PS3 WTF would ask wow some people need to stop the bitching already.
The only feature PSN doesn’t have is Cross-Game Chat so happy now. Your allow to glow now.
CAD the answer you want is this PSN suck LIVE rules. They both great especially the PSN because it basically has everything LIVE has and is FREE AND %100 reliable. I’m not trying to be rude CAD for real.
Let me know if you need more detail pure unbiased i swear. I know they both are awesome service to use even if you have to pay $50 is not a lot for most people.
August 28th, 2009
I thought CarlB said he doesn’t like MP games?
Racing and MP…something like that.
August 28th, 2009
the difference between PSN and Live are cross-game chat, a party feature and Avatars.

Well it is obvious that you have not been listening since 2008 or whenever the hell I came to this site. Really and truly I’ve been impressed with Sony’s effort to put gaming back into the PS3. I have been saying a long time now that my problem is with Sony. Their arrogance as a corporation stinks. If I was one of those with a PS2 and had to experience the transition to the PS3 I would have been pissed. The treatment until 2009 was very bad and the fact they used the PS3 as a Trojan horse is what really gets me. I’m a man of standards and when the statdards drop below a certain level I will have no respect for that company. That is what happen when you stop listening to your fanbase. Now that their mission is out of the way they are going back to their roots which is good but it still does not excuse what they started to do and if they feel no remorse for it, it just means they would do it to you again and that is what I’m not sure of with Sony. Therefore to me their arrogance stinks and to me it’s just been a copy and paste effect to bring the PS3 upto the 360’s standards. I just wish that they did not copy Microsoft and came with their own offerings which differed and brought something original other then Bluray which really does nothing special for gaming. I still like every other company except Sony because they all stuck to their roots. I would be quicker to get a Wii HD then to bother with Sony which would be more of the same thing I already have.

Okay forget console favoritism and all of the past Sony mistakes. And tell me now with all the exclusives and features plus price. Wouldn’t you like a PlayStation 3? Please answer honestly.
Remember without Nintendo’s betrayal to Sony they wouldn’t have been a PlayStation console and with out PlayStation they wouldn’t be a Xbox 360 console. So you gotta give Sony pros for entering the gaming world. They made gaming cool. Without Sony we will still have maybe PS2 games in quality and still no achievements or trophies or hard drive or DVD or Blu-ray drive. And no way in hell could Nintendo nor Sega could afford what Sony and Microsoft could.

CON:
No do some more research please.
August 28th, 2009
Sony made the chip and cdrom. Two system were going to come out. One a multimedia cdrom machine that also plays snes games, and the other an addon to the snes.
Nintendo didnt like the contract because it gave to much game ownsership to them if the games were on cd (from the sega cd perspective, it wouldnt have been too many games)
Nintendo screwed Sony at CES where they were supposed to announce the snes cd. instead nintendo created a partnership with phillips and the cdi came to fruition and bombed.
Sony used the R&D and made their own system.
August 28th, 2009
Okay cheers for that.
I was a such a big nintendo man back in the old sega days even though looking back sega was the better system. Just loved mario kart.

August 28th, 2009
Well Ivan,
Honestly, I would not mind the PS3. There are some things about it that are appealing. Free Online is a good start. I will agree that Microsoft advertising and still charging for Live is stretching it a bit for me. In Canada we don’t get the adverts like the USA but there are a few like the cell phone company Telus & Rogers. But overall the LIVE experience is quite cool as standards like Demo for all arcade/indie games is better and content is never at a loss. Cross game chat is a plus and the social networking is just done better. Games on Demand is a great feature too. Some of the exclusives sound intruiging but I’m not going to jump all over it yet as most are still unproven IP’s. I just find that with games there is an equivelant on each system. This game is like that game and that game is like this game. Games like Gods of War & Unchartered appeal and back in the PS1 days I was all over Grand Tursimo 1 & 2. I thourghly enjoyed it. There are some differences in the graphics that each render and I just feel like the colours on the 360 are more vibrant. I was watching NHL 09 for the PS3 on a friends TV the other day and it just looked greyish haze over everything I was wondering if it was the TV or the PS3 but the game looked dull instead of vibrant. The ability to swap your own Hard Drive is great and the ability to attach a external HD is very applaudable. There are some conviencies that Microsoft should really take note of but the truth is Microsoft seems to be going down this $$$$ road. I know it keeps them profitable and it’s not like they don’t put it back into the console but it seems a bit extreme as of lately as if they are making more then they need at the expense of the customer. Not putting in a browser is a little foolish as Microsoft is reserving twitter, Face book, Last.FM, Netflix and what ever else they bring as features for gold members but we all have computers and can do the same thing there. Their attitude of bringing free services that can be accessed through the computer to the 360 for a fee is a bit stupid. I would never pay for High Speed internet service just to play online so why Microsoft will not include the browser is stupid. Is it not obvious to Microsoft that we all have computers. Home as much as I diss it is not that bad of an idea, it’s just excuted wrong. Like the new dashboard for the 360 Home should be the same. Take away the menus and have PS3 startup in HOME would be a much better Idea where you could go to things you want to do and put the menu in the Popup screen once you hit the PS button on the controller for more streamlined quicker access in case you don’t feel like running around. I may or may not get a PS3 but like I said between the two they are almost similar and I would prefer something different. Lets see what happens when the Motion Controlls drop. I can see a First Person shooter being done with the PS3 wand but I’m still baffelled as to how Natal can make a shooter better without the controller. Wi-Fi in the PS3 is a very good feature and Microsoft charging $100 extra is a bit foolish. They should just include it now. Taking away the HDMI cable is another foolish thing along with the Composite cables. Now people have to spend extra to get those. The Microsoft Milking is becoming a bit much and I am taking note of it. There is honesty for you Ivan.
August 28th, 2009
Ivan, CON is right it was Sony who betrayed Nintendo. There was a dispute about cartridge over CD and Sony wanted to go CD and Nintendo wanted Cartridge so Sony bailed on them to do their own system. Sounds familiar.
August 28th, 2009
That was a well thought out honest post CAD.
It makes me want to give my honest opinion of the the 360. Only problem is I’m out for the weekend in about 5 min.
ok… 5min.
I like the Netflix idea. I’ve been talking about streaming video ever since I had the option on rhapsody for music. Sony should lose the option the “buy” movies from psn and make it a strict rent service. Pay $10 for all the movies you can DL. The people that use more bandwidht will be balanced by the people that don’t.
The 360 model is great but you need to walk before you can run.
It needs to stream HD movies and have some content thats more up to date.
The overall standard that MS set up with Live is a great idea. DL caps were dumb though.
While MS did a great job getting once exclusive franchises over to the Xbox from Sony, they did an equally great job establishing new games from third parties that got them recognized.
Lost planet and dead rising come to mind.
out
August 28th, 2009
CAD.
it was dubbed the snes cd. Nintendo was well aware that it would use cd’s..
August 28th, 2009
Well written i read every word nice. But UNCHARTED Resistance inFamous God of War Gran Turismo they all proven IP to be awesome. The only feature Xbox 360 has over PS3 is Cross Game Chat with a party system. The rest PS3 got it all. As for PS3’s dumb wand and Natal i hate them both and i wish them bad luck. HOME is awesome when you start playing bowling and talking to millions of people is a whole new whole. You have so many mini games to play with friends like Buzz trivia question and many more. There’s also a lot of creepy homespaces good 2go at night. I wish you had a PS3 so we can play games like Killzone Warhawk Resistance those game are always full of people playing 24/7 and on the PSN you won’t hear any kids talking is all adult oriented. You should try to invest on a PS3 i can share so many games i bought you can only do that on PS3 i love that feature. When you buy a PS3 you won’t need extra peripheral other then a Blutooth headset.
At least think about it you won’t regret it PS3 is great and pure fun.
I should be hired Sony why haven’t you call me yet LoL…
Again nicely written.

Ivan gave it all away in the “Will Xbox 360 owners buy a PS3 Slim this holiday season?” thread.
He obviously didn’t mean to let it slip but it explains his multiple log-ins etc.
“we don’t care much about Xbox 360 much here because this website is mostly full of PS3 owner and used to be Xbox 360 only owners”
He thinks ‘they’ have all but chased the Xbox owners away.
This one will just get funnier as he realises that is no longer the way of it.
August 29th, 2009
I lot of the xbox users left a good while ago now but it’s better for a good debate if it’s 50/50
August 29th, 2009
I agree CON, blind fanboy fanzine sites are boring beyond belief.
August 29th, 2009
@CAD,
*comments deleted.
I have repeatedly warned you CAD and you have continued to blatantly insult me.
I think you need a two week time-out to cool off.

August 29th, 2009
Dave seemed to think it was okay!
LOL
August 29th, 2009
Or maybe that’s because when Dave is questioned about his articles he responds instead of taking a huff and deleting comments of people who question him???
This will not be forgotten. You’re not doing yourself any favours.
August 30th, 2009
@CON,
I don’t want to hijack this post so I will just reply to your comment this once regarding moderation -
First off, I’m the only Gamer publisher here over the weekend.
Second, Dave and myself have discussed this and are on the same page.
Third, I never deleted comments who questioned me – CAD insulted me by calling me a “fu***** Co*ksucker,” “asshole,” then proceeded to insult me further by stating I was “full of sh**” and an “idiot.”
I love debating, if you feel my argument isn’t sound bring it on, but don’t resort to insulting.
I’ve given CAD a two weeks suspension to cool off.
August 30th, 2009
I must say there has been some good surprises lately in some of the open and balanced opinions here lately, particular kudos out to xbox crowd ….. you know who u are
Now we just gotta work on Ivan and Roca. you fellas need to come on board too
August 30th, 2009
Spideydog:
Well why me i don’t insult anyone here or any where online for that matter. Also i don’t get mad when people have their own opinions on PS3 like most Xbox fans here they try to change the subject and insult you if you write a good argument for the PS3, or just your own opinion on Xbox 360.
CAD was actually beginning to change but he mess it up by insulting Mike. Too bad hopefully when he comes back September 12 he will be change and let people have their own conclusion on consoles.
August 30th, 2009
“Mike is trying hard to get is to respond to his article. That is what happens when he messes with us. His threads will become boring and unpopulated.”
Roca actually quoted CADs deleted post further down the page. I don’t recall him calling you any of those names above. Maybe last week when you were deleting the posts you had no answer to.
Getting banned for insulting someone by calling them boring is pretty extreme
August 30th, 2009
CON:
Why do you seem to care so much for a problem that has nothing to do with you? Also CAD has insulting him we all see it also happyhockum does all the time too.
People that hate PLAYSTATION 3 so much shouldn’t be here. They should be kneeling at Microsoft’s Xbox 360 on their forums instead.
Every time i see a Xbox 360 owner comment on this posts in Gamer.Blorge they always trying to somehow put down the PS3 plus the owners too how sad. The funny thing is that it has never work and will never work.
CAD and happyhockum both have hates for the precious PS3, that’s why i wrote the comment above.
August 30th, 2009
It’s a problem because Mike is going out of his way to stir up tension now that most xbox users don’t comment on his articles anymore except for happy.

Wow do you actually believe what you write. If anyone doesn’t like the site they should just move on wow. Also happyhockum is just a bitter jealous TROLL.

@Ivan
LMAO. Have you ever heard of irony???
“Well why me i don’t insult anyone here or any where online for that matter”
You are easily the biggest trash talker on this site Ivan. Seriously!
“Also i don’t get mad when people have their own opinions on PS3″
Seriously Ivan. Come on lol.
“Every time i see a Xbox 360 owner comment on this posts in Gamer.Blorge they always trying to somehow put down the PS3 plus the owners too how sad.”
If you change ps3 and 360 around in the above comment you are the number one culprit.
Come on Ivan
August 30th, 2009
CON:
That’s your opinion. Don’t worry i won’t trash talk the Xbox 360 because you stated your own opinion.
Remember i am a PlayStation owner we are too mature to insult others (fact).
August 30th, 2009
Well now that you have said that it’s fact I suppose I have no comeback
August 30th, 2009
CON:
No, LoL
August 30th, 2009
Don’t take it personally Ivan. You can sometimes go a bit overboard with the pro sony message m8. Just argue some good stuff about the 360 once in a while ….. not pirated stuff either
You don’t need to convert people over here m8, if the product is good enough and the time is right, it will do it all by itself.
August 30th, 2009
Spideydog:
Is doing by itself already that’s why burning up the sales charts everywhere.
I would never buy games for Xbox 360 i rather steal them for free.
If the Xbox 360 didn’t have awful security built-in i would have sold it off for to get a PSX.
August 30th, 2009
I wish i can also get two weeks vacation
August 30th, 2009
That’s easy just tell mike you bought a 360
August 31st, 2009
Why
August 31st, 2009
i don’t see the ps3 outselling the 360 this holiday. HALO is just too big to compete against. Even GT5 can’t really compete.
August 31st, 2009
Halo will be competing with COD MW2 this holiday season. I don’t think ODST will have a chance.
The 360 still has the cheapest console on the market and people have proved that they will go with price over reliability and value so….who knows. This holiday will be interesting.
I could also see a 299 ps3 selling buttloads.

The 1st results are beginning to come in –
“Xbox 360 Sales Nearly Up By Half In UK
1st Sept 2009
The Xbox 360 seems to have taken an early lead if MCV is to be believed. Chartrack, the organisation that monitors sales of music, videos and software through retail in the UK and Ireland, told MCV that that sales of the Xbox 360 Elite increased by 43 percent week-on-week.”

More fresh news just in.
Xbox Jasper failrate now @ 1% = totally normal & completely fixed.
“SquareTrade, an independent provider of warranties on electronics, estimates that 2.7% of Wiis fail during the first two years of ownership, compared with a 10% failure rate over that period for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and a 23.7% failure rate for Microsoft’s Xbox 360.”
However…….
“Since Microsoft introduced a new chip in the Xbox 360 last year, SquareTrade said complaints about the red ring of death problem have begun to abate. On over 500 Xbox 360s purchased by SquareTrade customers in 2009, fewer than 1% reported a red ring of death problem as of August, according to SquareTrade.”

Come on Mike or Dave, there’s some interesting stuff happening out there.
Surely the slaying of one of the biggest Xbox bugbears is a big story?
September 1st, 2009
Hows that 1?
Jasper Xbox failrate 10x lower than PS3!
September 1st, 2009
Well, like the 360 fans said last year about the Jasper: wait to see what the numbers are for the Slim a year from now, if you want to avoid the tired apples to oranges analogy.
Comparing the hot, power hungry 90/65nm cel and rsx specifically to the 3rd (or is it 4th?) iteration of the 360 is not a fair comparison. Wait a year to see how the Slim fairs before you try to claim bragging rights, heh.
How about:
23.7% vs 10%, and that 23.7% being significantly lifted up by a full year of an impressive 1% failure rate.
If an average of 23.7% over 3.5 years, includes a full year of 1% failure rate, then the first 2.5 years would be:
23.7 x 3.5/2.5 = 33.18% failure rate for the pre-jasper Xbox models.
(for calculation, it is ok to assume year on year sales equality, since Xbox through its peaks and valleys has maintained very steady year on year sales)
If you are going to accept and promote a 1% failure rate for Jaspers (which if fucking awesome, makes my future 360 purchase far more likely) the you HAVE to accept that the pre-jasper models had a 1/3rd failure rate. 33.18% is an ugly number. Can you really blame the informed among us for hating on MS for releasing a product that failed 33% of the time?
No wonder they took it in the ass with the 3 year warranty, lol. To not do so would have undoubtedly resulted in a serious and expensive legal situation (and PR nightmare that would have been FAR worse than it already was)
September 1st, 2009
Just out of interest I wish they had broken it down further.
It’s crystal clear now that Japser is a huge step forward – but so too must Falcon have been.
The Falcon hardware changes necessarily mean it has to have been more reliable (not only did the CPU shrink but it’s often overlooked that the RAM & the GPU shrank from 90nm to 80nm in that SKU).
I’m not doubting that Xernon & Zephyr had problems – and seemingly big problems (and nor have I ever done so) but it is nice to know that now, whatever the history, a Jasper Xbox has reliability 2nd to none.
Even if it turns out later that it does fall 2nd to the slim in the reliability stakes we are now talking fractions of 1%.
Win all round for us owners, I’d say.
This seals the deal for me.
I think I’m now a dead cert to sell on my Falcon Elite & go for that 250gb Super Elite deal in Oct.
One of the nice things about the EU is I can buy at the local national price & taxes and only have to worry about shipping on top (which with Amazon in the eU is a small amount).
September 1st, 2009
Sorry, I need to modify the calculation:
((23.7 – (1 / 3.5)) * 3.5) / 2.5 = 32.78
It is a small difference, but I wouldn’t want to be called bias for not counting the 1% failure rate out of the equaltion entirely.
September 1st, 2009
We were writing up our posts at the same time me-thinks.
With the known values we can do an accurate comparison at least between jasper and pre-jasper, as I believe I have accurately calculated above.
September 1st, 2009
It’s just nice to see it laid out impartially now by a company with no axe to grind for anyone.
It’s now demonstrably safe to buy Xbox Jasper (and as they launched in Dec 08/Jan 09 I can’t believe that anyone has old stocks lying about).
September 1st, 2009
Yeah, a warranty company only cares about one thing: accuracy. Without it, they can lose their shirts to over insuring people, or their asses to be sued for under insuring people.
September 1st, 2009
That’s very true (and a note-worthy point regarding the accuracy & integrity of their stats).
September 2nd, 2009
Jofa – “Can you really blame the informed among us for hating on MS for releasing a product that failed 33% of the time?”
while ignoring the umpteen millions of ps2 that were faulty (so much so sony was sued and settled), the exploding batteries sony put in laptops, and malfunctioning graphics processors in their VIAO comps….
ah…fanboys….lmao…
September 2nd, 2009
jofa – we couldn’t blame you IF you actually had a 360.
Unfortunately, the loudest complaints against the 360 don’t come from 360 customers, but ps3 fanboys who don’t even own a 360….
now that’s truly sad…

unfortunately I’m a PS3 only guy because my 360 died out of the warranty in April 2009. I also know a friend went through 5 Xboxes, and went the 6th one started acting up he just traded in and stayed with just the PS3 and the Wii.
