Is the PS3 Firmware 3.0 as good as the Xbox 360 dashboard update?
The Xbox 360 received a dashboard shortly after E3, now its the PS3’s turn to receive a firmware update right after Gamescom. The update refines the overall experience of the XMB on the PS3 as well as few additional cool features have been incorporated via firmware 3.0.
I did an impression article on the Xbox 360 dashboard update not that long ago and it seems like its the PS3’s turn to get a firmware makeover. Unlike the Xbox 360’s update the PS3’s firmware update doesn’t make drastic changes to the way you play games. However, it does make some convenient and spiffy changes that will make your XMB shine.

One of the biggest additions that is more aesthetic than anything else is the support for dynamic themes and avatars. Also, a cool animated background theme is currently available on the Playstation store in the premium section. I am hoping that Sony will drop some freebies onto the store this Thursday so users can try it out before buying.

Another big addition to the XMB is the “What’s New†section. I actually like this feature quite a bit because it actually displays the last three games I played for quick launch. In my “What’s New†section its currently displaying Batman Arkham’s Asylum, Battlefield 1943 and Killzone 2. It also has a shortcut to watch Pulse, which is one of my favorite shows to watch.
Feature additions like the streaming shortcuts to videos of games and movies allow you to watch it straight off the XMB, which is a nice touch as I don’t have to go into the PSN Store to check out the latest and greatest. There is a new status bar replacing the useless information bar at the top right hand of the screen.

The status bar actually displays useful information such as unread messages you have, how many friends are online, your avatar and a ticker telling you the latest gaming news. There is a new useful copy and paste feature that allows you to copy long text on the Web browser and paste it anywhere you want.
Interesting enough, Sony has incorporated an Internet connection speed test feature inside the settings section, which seems dead on compared to other online speed tests. Another enhancement I was glad to see is the size enhancement to the font on the XMB. The font is now much bigger making it so that I don’t have to strain my eyes to make out the words.
In comparison to the Xbox 360 update there is very little thats game changing, except may be the “What’s New†game shortcuts, which I really like. However, overall I would say that the firmware update was good and refined what was there. There are some other features that enhance movie watching experience along with some audio additions. You can check out the full list of features on Playstationlifestyle.net.

Ill give you one reason why Sony can shove it right up thier ass. That stupid store option under movies.
If its not available in my region, then take it the fuck out for my region or make the damn theme not display it.
Its an ‘ok’ update that really adds nothing spectacular (again). Dynamic themes look neat and I like the ‘glitter’ effect of the base theme. And I suppose the ‘recently played’ list is OK but I don’t see me using it tbh.
I think one thing Sony needs to address is the in-game voice chat. If they can’t do it then they should at least come out and say it. Its been how many updates now with PS3 owners asking for in game voice chat, but it never comes. But hey, ill take 500 new ways to open the ps3 store.

only thing i liked was the boot up process. but im not really use to any of it yet

I’m just guessing but was this post named like that to contradict PlayStation fans with Xbox fans?
Just read it i guess the Xbots were write when they complain about this topic.
Is the PS3 Firmware 3.0 as good as the Xbox 360 dashboard update?
Wow i hate this update so much i might consider myself giving up on gaming. Is garbage lame it hate fuck Sony i hate you now. Going back to PSP and PS2 fuck PS3 this fucking update suck.
WTF is this crap Sony you fucking useless now.
September 1st, 2009
if you were expecting something big you are going to be disappointed, the 3.0 update was more to change the looks of the XMB, and it also came with a few extra feature, nothing more nothing less.
Sony even said they dont want to change the XMB too much because people like the XMB as it is

I knew a bit what was in store i the video they show on the PS Blog. Sony can go to hell for all i care. I wish i could sell my PS3 without losing my $500 guess i need to keep it and just sell my Xbox 360 since is useless to own.
I will try to downgrade my PC using the Xbox method i knows hard but i will do it.

Apple should make a gaming console or IBM so i can buy it instead of this crap now.
I know Apple can make a awesome gaming console and IBM can make a dream gaming console since they have made all of them so far.
This happen just before God of War Collection wow i have bad luck.

what is your problem dude? why are you so mad about, the new clock design? the new friend list design? the “whats new” section? the dynamic background?
granted that it look different but it is just a matter of getting used to it. I remember when I update my 360 to the NXE I hated it at first because I was used to the old dashboard. but after a while it all made sense to me and I actually enjoyed the new layout more.
Personally I am all for innovation, I’m fine with new stuff/design. Gamingwise I actually prefer new IP’s instead of sequels.
September 1st, 2009
FFS (face palm) sigh …..
September 1st, 2009
Ivan,
The update consists of dynamic backgrounds/avatars, shortcuts to the store, and changes to the clock and status section. What’s so horrible about that? It seems like a minor change to me.
September 1st, 2009
Also I’ve been playing Final Fantasy Dissidia and there is something that has been really bothering me.
When the characters/narrator refer to Tidus (FF:X) they pronounce it “Tea-tis”. Wasn’t his name pronounced “Tie-tus” in X?

whops it’s supposed to be “Tie-dus”

The entire PlayStation forum is complaining there’s thousand hate post. LoL i can’t believe this but hating on Sony is actually refreshing and fun. Never thought i would turn on them.
I agree Sony doesn’t cared for gamers PS3 is just for media not gaming.
I still love PSP and PS2. I bet people on their PS forum are going to make them do a good firmware for once. Because all that hate is bad publicity for the PS3 which has awesome games and some awful features.
Wii and Xbox 360 still are the worst gaming console that will never EVER change.
The only way the PS3 can be fix would be by hacking. Like the PSP was but without the ability to play backups of course because that will destroy Sony.
September 1st, 2009
|O_o| !!?? Did someone else take Ivan´s account?
All changes are ok, as long as they don´t mess up with the options that are already available. The update is minor but ok isn´t it? Perhaps, the changes are more related with internal processes invisible to the user.
September 1st, 2009
It’s a very minor update. All of the changes are pretty much aesthetic. Also the people who post on the PS forums and the PS Blog are all insane.

Akaro:
Not is still me.
Barnabe Jones:
I’m sorry you think that. Also when aren’t the PS3 firmware update minor. The only changes i like was the bar that tells you the time/date and the how many friends you got online. Also the gay animations are cool too i hate having huge text and icon so i switch to the CLASSIC theme. Also WHAT’S NEW is a bit better then what it was before. I just wish Sony cared more about gaming features we always get minor junks.
Why that fuck did they add a fucking PS3 Slim logo i own that shit. I got a FAT PS3 not that ugly ass slim crap. Also when you start a game there’s no logo it goes straight to the game which awesome really fast game loading. The thing i hate the most is the bar over your name now is annoying as hell. Also Resistance 2 has no platinum trophy anymore plus most people has bigger percentage weird.
I knew i didn’t want to upgrade but i need to play online LoL Sony beat me no matter what.
September 1st, 2009
No more battery covering the clock…MEGATON!!
September 1st, 2009
@ Ivan, “Why that fuck did they add a fucking PS3 Slim logo i own that shit.”
In case u didnt know that’s going to be the new playstation logo from now on, your going to see it everywhere including cover arts for PS3 games.
Resistance 2 never had a platinum trophy. (hint) it was always a hidden trophy duh!
September 1st, 2009
OK I played around with it…
*Larger font for the XMB
*When you click on trophies, friends, etc it blurs the background, making the info easier to read.
*The friends list looks different
*Clock/status bar was updated
*what’s new section under “Network”.
*Video store under “Video”
*And there are quick links to your recently played games and the store under “game”.
All in all, minor changes to the look and feel of the XMB. I like the larger font and the fact that the background info now blurs when you click into things on the XMB.
September 1st, 2009
Yes the boot up logo has changed. Not a big deal. They also did do away with the PLAYSTATION 3 logo and the chime that displayed when you boot up games. I’m actually going to miss that lol.
I checked, the Resistance 2 platinum is still there. It’s hidden and just as impossible to get as it was before.

And you still have the option of going back to the “classic” look if you really want to.
I do actually read the PS blog regularly. They do a great job with it, but the comments section is a nightmare. It’s littered with xbox trolls and whinny PS fans that constantly complain about stupid petty shit. I can actually name a few PSN IDs off of the top of my head now, of trolls that litter the comments section with off topic negative crap. They do it on a daily basis. I wish the moderators would grow a pair and start deleting them.

I know that is going to be the new logo from now is common sense.
Resistance 2 has a Platinum trophy my friend has is already.
Barnabe Jones:
I will miss it too along with the start logo. The Resistance 2 Platinum is not really hard i almost got it.
I hope every PS3 slim blows up.

@ barnabe Jones;
“I checked, the Resistance 2 platinum is still there. It’s hidden and just as impossible to get as it was before.”
its always been that way, and they should always keep it that way for R2 because nobody is getting that one lol (stupid ass trophy, it is ridiculously *super* hard that it ain’t even funny anymore) have you seem the “OMGWTFBBQ” trophy in R2, don’t even try to get it, super human is a freakin warzone
September 1st, 2009
“The Resistance 2 Platinum is not really hard i almost got it.”
I’m at 54% for the platinum trophy, and that’s as far as I can go. I believe your are way below me Ivan

I got a bunch people on the PSN that have it. I myself almost got it too. Also i will soon get the Killzone 2 platinum.
Almost impossible platinum the Warhawk.

September 1st, 2009
I can’t be bothered with the resistance 2 platinum. I’m so agonisingly close. I just need 3 more trophies but they’re all stupid ones. The 10,000 kills, level up highest on co-op and something else.
September 1st, 2009
Oops i only got %68 done.
Resistance 2 %68
Killzone 2 %69
Warhawk %43
inFamous %58
Call of Duty: World at War %11
Burnout Paradise %17
LittleBigPlanet %22
Astro Tripper %4
Blast Factor %11
GTA IV %10
I don’t as much now that’s why some games are low in percentage.

did you get the “OMGWTFBBQ” trophy?

They absolutely should have brought back the PS1 boot up screen; granted it would added 20 seconds for the game to boot up, but who cares, that was fucking epic.
September 1st, 2009
I got 4 Platinum trophies so far (Uncharted, Bioshock, Resident Evil 5 and Infamous)
Call of Duty: World at War is another really really hard game to beat on veteran. and Wipeout HD is even harder

Complete hacking of a console is the real game-ender for the industry. Some people may be able to give a good use to hacks in case of a unbearable DRM but most of the time it is better to try not to retort with piracy. Talented and hardworking developers have to eat and pay rent too.

Looks pretty cool to me, I’ll download it in a bit.
Except the game loading sound thing – do you mean that is completely gone?
The PS3 should have the option to chose any of the Playstation game-loading sounds. I’d have the PS1 game-boot up for sure.
Does anyone know if you can develop your own dynamic themes? Like we could with the static ones.
September 1st, 2009
I have to admit, my friend gave me the Pandora battery for the PSP and a handful of games. I played them, but I have since updated my firmware and have bought a handful of games since.
Speaking of which…
I’ve been playing Final Fantasy Dissidia and there is something that has been really bothering me.
When the characters/narrator refer to Tidus (FF:X) they pronounce it “Tea-tisâ€. Wasn’t his name pronounced “Tie-dus†in X?
September 1st, 2009
His name was never pronounced in FF:X was it?
Because we could change his name to Dick-pole or whatever we wanted at the start of the game.
September 1st, 2009
I used to prononced “tie-dus” too but IDK Square Enix keeps messing the names up.
in FF4 for the DS (with voice acting) they prononce the main character’s name all wront.
Cecil (sicil)
September 1st, 2009
hmm that’s a good point.
Yeah, the sound and logo are gone from game booting. Not sure if you will be able to design a dynamic theme, but I would have to assume so.

JofaMang
Piracy?
What you mean modding to use d/l’d games etc?
I don’t see that as real piracy.
Piracy for me is selling physical illegal (and often sub-standard) copies of other people’s games and films down some fleamarket.
‘The Entertainment indistry’ is one of the richest on the planet.
I doubt a private individual d/l’ing a copy of a game or movie (that they were never going to buy anyways) makes a blind bit of difference.
Besides the research actually shows that despite exceptions most of the so-called ‘pirates’ actually buy much more in the way of music, fims and games than those who do notshare/pirate.
September 1st, 2009
:O Ivan said my name! I am well and truly blessed
lol
September 1st, 2009
uhmm thanks to piracy the Dreamcast didnt last long. Piracy led to developers dropping support on the system which led to horrible sales to the system and its software withch led to Sega quiting the Console market.
it almost happened to the PSP to between 2007-2008 (there was no games to play other than GoW: CoO and FF: Crisis Core). But Sony keeps making changes and making new PSP models to keep the system alive. same goes for the DS. I just hope the 360 wont go down that way.
September 1st, 2009
@HH Fair enough.
I will admit to D/Ling games for the PC to try, but will always buy what I like. I don’t consider that Piracy, I consider it due diligence. I will also admit that I believe most DRM (especially EAs limited # of installs) is really just a cash grab for those not tech savy enough to work around it.
I will not buy a 360 just to mod it and steal the games. To me that is blatant abuse, regardless of my opinion of M$. I won’t run around linking methods to rip off game devs. The Entertainment industry might be rich as a whole, but just like the farmer or steel miner, the real money is made well above them in the value chain. Piracy hurts the smaller devs more than anyone, and by Piracy in this case, I do refer to the blatant theft for free ownership purposes.
Now, here in NA we don’t have a real Piracy issue (in the sense of Flea Market Piracy that you described) but in china there are entire factories built just to pump out pirated copies of just about anything digital. That is a road that we haven’t gone down just yet, but it is scary to me as a hedonistic devourer of electronic stimulation.
September 1st, 2009
“I won’t run around linking methods to rip off game devs. I won’t run around linking methods to rip off game devs.”
@ JofaMang
I totally I agree with you. I used to do the same for the PSP. download games for free just to try them.. If I like them then I will buy then. but other than that piracy is not good for the gaming industry. I wouldn’t like M$, Sony or Nintendo to to take a major hit because of it. I rather pay $60 for a game than have a gaming console with no games
September 1st, 2009
how the hell did I posted Jofa’s comment twice??? =/
September 1st, 2009
I dunno Roca. Everyone I knew had a hacked PSX, from the ‘pen in the lid disc swap’ trick, to fully fledged mod chips. Didn’t hurt that machine.
September 1st, 2009
did you have a PSP between 2007-2008? did you had a dreamcast?
I never knew anybody who had a hacked PSX, and back then not everybody had a computer and not everybody with a PC had internet access or CD burner like now days
September 1st, 2009
Funny, guess just different areas and such. I was back in high school at the time of the PSX and there was rampant PSX pirate trading going on (as well as PC). Burners were indeed rare (especially ones capable of raw burning which I believe was needed) but there were enough people with em.
Anywhoos. Neither of us has any proof so just forget it.
I need some lunch.
September 1st, 2009
Roca
Sorry but I don’t believe the Dreamcast died for any reason other than gaming politics, nothing to do with piracy.
I know you could pirate games for it but IIRC that came quite late in its life and it was also pretty widely known that it wrecked the drive after a while.
JofaMang
I’m not disagreeing with that, just generally I think the point is usually lost that most of us are ‘try before buyers’.
I can honestly say I have never pirated a console game, ever.
The one occasion I did it with my PC I then went and bought the game because I like it.
(I also gave myself a reality check about d/ling and using .exe files on my PC.
Not the wiosest move I’d suggest)
September 1st, 2009
lol……either way I just dont like ppl like Ivan promoting that shit around like JofaMang mentioned
September 1st, 2009
“just generally I think the point is usually lost that most of us are ‘try before buyers’”
I definitely agree that piracy is a smokescreen for invasive DRM and the extreme measures used to catch people who dl and share those games. I remember there was recently a small game dev who basically begged the torrent community to support the game financially if they enjoyed what they downloaded. They didn’t use legal threats or any heavy handed tactics, just simply laid out the truth: they needed sales to stay alive.
From what I recall it worked, and they got a very strong sale-to-pirated ratio. I will have to dig up who it was and link the articles.
My point is, it still does hurt the devs to be a never-buy-it-even-if-it-is-awesome type of pirate, the kind that Ivan obviously is. But since the community is speaking up against this type of intent to steal, I am sure there is no mod action needed.

I think it’s become pretty clear (again, with some exceptions, you can never rule out the occasional exception) that shouts of ‘piracy!’ have become a cover for a sh*t game deservedly not selling well.
If I see a cr@p movie I d/l’ed I’m not going to buy it.
I’m pretty sure it’s exactly the same for most gamers who d/l.
Especially with the on-line side of things.
You might get lucky for a while & have your pirate copy work on-line but most I know won’t risk being banned & just go and buy the game.
It’s not like they are so expensive after a while.

I don’t forget things.
Dreamcast sales grew 156.5% from July 23, 2000 to September 30, 2000 putting Sega ahead of the Nintendo 64 in that period. However, Sony’s launch of the much-hyped PlayStation 2 that year marked the beginning of the end for the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast’s launch in Japan was a failure. Launching with a small library of generally uninteresting software and in the shadow of the upcoming PS2, the system would not gain great success, despite several successful games in the region. The Western launch a year later was accompanied by a large amount of both 1st party and 3rd party software and an aggressive marketing campaign. It was extremely successful and earned the distinction of “most successful hardware launch in history,” selling a then-unprecedented 500,000 consoles in its first week in North America. Sega was able to hold onto this momentum in the US almost until the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 2. The Dreamcast is home to several innovative and critically acclaimed games of the time, including one of the first cel-shaded titles, Jet Set Radio; Seaman, a game involving communication with a fish-type creature via microphone; a rhythm game involving the use of maracas, Samba de Amigo; and Shenmue, an adventure game of vast scope with freeform gameplay and a striking attempt at creating a detailed in-game city. Despite receiving critical acclaim, these titles failed to garner much public attention in the face of the upcoming Playstation 2 launch.
Faced with debt and competition from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, Sega officially discontinued the Dreamcast hardware in 2001. The final game Sega released for it was NHL 2K2

EA has made a few statements lately (especially about Sims3 and Spore) that they don’t care about Piracy, as the full legal retail versions are the complete versions, and pirated copies will basically serve as Demos. I think it works. My wife loved the sims2, but we couldn’t afford the 15 expansions and addon packs, so we pirated them. With the Sims3, she insisted on owning it, and the future expansions, as the pirated version was fairly stripped (and rumoured to have been released by EA themselves).
Embracing the blacknet can be very very prosperous for a software company.

Look at what happened with the Radiohead ‘free’ release.
People were encouraged to pay what they felt it was worth.
Naturally the doom-mongers all claimed people would just take it for nothing or next to nothing – forgetting that even a few pennies beat the standard split the record company would have paid them.
Ofcourse I understand the notion that if everyone just took for free then nobody could make any money, I just doubt that is ever much of a threat.
My own view is that those that just take and never buy would never buy anyways, so nobody’s missing sales.
They were never going to happen anyways.
Most of the rest of us if we like the item we like the full item.
In movies for me that has to be the retail item for the very best in audio (I could download full films but without a blu-ray burner what’s the point? ……..and I’d be spending the next year seeding files that size back even on my reasonable connection – 18/1).
Similarly I bet the same is true of most gamers, they would by far prefer the complete article including booklets, the linked in website stuff and all the rest that requires a password/code.

Props on the Radiohead example. The last I heard it netted them over 2mil pounds, far more than what they would have earned in royalties from a label, and reached a far higher amount of fans legally.
I believe its called having your cake, and eating it too.

BTW, as of this writing, Firmware 3.0 (installed about 3 hours ago) has broken my ps3. It is not bricked, but it freezes about every 5 minutes it is on, no matter what I am doing, games, movies, surfing.
Pissed off I am.

Thanks all for supporting piracy.
Why buy when you can steal.

Can you roll-back firmwares?
September 1st, 2009
Yeah, I was planning on doing that tomorrow after I get off work, as the wife is in a clan video meeting on the PS3 this evening. They might be mostly lesbians and housewives, but those female gamers in her clan are pretty smoking hot.
September 1st, 2009
@HH
Nope, that is where the PS3 hackers have been stuck. There is a very labourious and risky method to rollback, but being labourious and risky keep it from being a mainstream hacker tool.
Besides, with every essential update (2.8 was optional, but 3.0 is not) you are prompted and forced to update before you can do anything online.
September 1st, 2009
Pity.
I’m sure Xbox is much the same.
The CE corps seem intent on doing their best to keep them tightly locked down & controlled despite the fact they are to a large extent & in their own way just shrunken PCs.
September 2nd, 2009
Happyhockum:
Is not hard to rollback the Xbox 360 software all you need is a PC with some requirements. I done it already and the PS3 you can also rollback with the Xbox tool infetus.
September 2nd, 2009
And it is more likely to brick the PS3 than work, Ivan. Don’t promote it an unauthorized method that WILL cost people hundreds of dollars, you fucking asshole.
September 2nd, 2009
JofaMang:
If you know how to do it it won’t cost any harm to your PS3. The only people that harm PS3 are idiots.
September 2nd, 2009
@Jofa – Unlucky man
I doubt Activision have to worry much about piracy. You can’t pirate it on PS3, you can bet MS will be watching XBL for signs of pre-release copies and any data that comes back from the 360 that doesn’t check out in order to slam the ban hammer down, and on PC – who wants to be the only one in a clan playing on a cracked server?
September 2nd, 2009
why dont you keep the “hack” talk to some hacking forums out there
September 2nd, 2009
SW:
Microsoft can catch shit and even if they could they are method to unban accounts. And Activision has to worry big time with PC Xbox 360 piracy since is easy to do. I sure will be pirating this shit all over. I have never been ban from Xbox Live i play so many pirate games.

I haven’t had any problems outside the one game I have been playing since receiving my slim… Uncharted froze twice on me in different parts, but I can’t remember if it was before or after the update. Playing it tonight on crushing diff on chapter 13, it freezes right over this stone bridge every time, and I’ve already played through the entire game twice, on normal and hard, with no problems. Right now I don’t know whether this is the slim or the disc (no scratches, but bought used) or the update, but I know I am not the only one having the exact same problem:
boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=4040298
Not a good first impression, to say the least. For now at least, it looks like I’m going back to 360.
September 2nd, 2009
carlB:
You go do that. We don’t care if you switch to Xbox 360. I haven’t had any problems using this update or any update for that matter.
September 2nd, 2009
@Ivan, I’ve been trying for the last hour or so to fix this. They say on the site that if you can delete the game data and then reload the patch it will fix this. I have tried downloading it about 15 times so far and if it starts, it sometimes gets down to about 1 second left, then kicks off the server until an error message pops up. It’s kind of frustrating because I’ve never had this problem with 360 updates for games or problems with games and they’ve never taken this long to download patches. This plus I am 91% towards getting the platinum… playing a great game should be this hard, and Uncharted is great, it’s just this one little thing that’s holding things up. Not cool, and not fun. If I wanted to spend this much time with patch problems I would go back to pc games.
September 2nd, 2009
Good god. Finally I got the patch reinstalled and made it past the bridge no problem. Looks like I’ll still get the Uncharted Platinum before you Ivan.
September 2nd, 2009
I’m not going to get the UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune platinum. Because it has no online play. I never had any problem with PS3 patches. On the Xbox 360 i had major issues with patches and updates like NXE. Go back to PC games if you want to, but there’s nothing fun there.
September 2nd, 2009
HH, I wasn’t having a go at ya m8. I do understand the point your making and agree.
Ivan …. WTF is going on with you. Is there some medication you are supposed to be taking? Looks like it is time to get back on them buddy. Your up and down like a yoyo.
CarlB & Jofa, sorry to hear the issue, usually a re-install fixes the issues, same with PC patch dramas sometimes. CarlB, hope your enjoying the new system
Hopefully it will give you as much enjoyment as the 360 has.

Barnabe,
I don’t know if anybody already addressed this, but Tidus’ name was never said out loud in either X or X-2, since you could change his name to whatever you wanted.
However, the official pronunciation has always been “TEE-duss,” as it is closer to the Mandarin word that the name was taken from.

Fixed my PS3.
Did a file system restore, and a database rebuild. Neat bit: the last time I did a database rebuild it took about 90mins (on my 320gb HDD), but with my 60gb SSD, this time it only took about 13mins. Hot damn. Anyone with a few bucks to spare for an SSD would see a HUGE improvement in load times and HDD specific tasks.
September 2nd, 2009
Jofamang how much did you pay for the 60gb you have?
September 2nd, 2009
$200CAD about 2 months ago for my PC, originally. It is an OCZ vertex that I impulse bought when it was on a limited stock sale through NCIX (down from 290 at the time). The wife was unhappy, to be very diplomatic about it.
September 2nd, 2009
$200?????? lol im good for now, load times wont kill me I guess. but Thanks anyways
September 2nd, 2009
‘The wife was unhappy, to be very diplomatic about it.’
If you take away the marriage, thats the story of my life.
I ‘floated’ the idea of building a new machine last night and it didn’t go down to well. I was back peddling after about 5 mins.
But man, I’m going to NEED to run MW2 at such a his resolution it will make my eyes bleed. Sucks
Guess ill try again around xmas…
September 2nd, 2009
Hmmm, I find that floating my ‘next tech’ ideas several months before I am ready or able to implement them usually helps melt down the icy barrier that immediately goes up!
Trouble is my Mrs always seems to want to spend on decorating & titivating the house and I’m perfectly happy with it as it is.
I’ve seen a nice 60″ LG TV with their new calibration set-up (apparantly a major step forward for them & it makes highly accurate set-up a lot easier & inexpensive).
She’s going to kill me.
September 2nd, 2009
Arvis,
Roy did mention that. I could have sworn they did say his name in X and X2, but I guess I was mistaken.
I always just took it as “Tie-dus”, so I have it ingrained in my head that way now. I cringe when I hear Dissidia pronounce it as “Tee-dis”. It just feels so wrong to me.
September 3rd, 2009
HH,
F&^K decorating & titivating the house, go the nice 60″ LG TV. We are always in the shit, it is just the depth that varies ……

I am just lucky the missus is a total gamer. I can get away with impulse purchases now and then because she understands gamer talk, and why I make these impulse decisions.
Sure, she holds a grudge for a few hours (like when she found out I was overclocking the shit out of ‘our’ CPU) but usually passes into acceptance when she can experience how it benefits her as a gamer, too.
