PS3 enhanced 720p God of War this holiday – to sell like hotcakes
Two of the most iconic PS2 games is set to hit the PS3 in a new and remastered way. Sony recently unveiled yesterday that God of War Collections will be released this holiday 2009, which will be completely PS3 enhanced from trophies to graphics. This will definitely be a hot holiday item for gamers.
Two of my all time favorite PS2 games, God of War and God of War II will be hitting the PS3 this holiday season. It was a bit disappointing when Sony revealed that God of War III was pushed back to Q1 of 2010. However, Sony quickly made up for it by listening to the fans and deciding to release a truly PS3 enhanced version of the first two God of War games for the PS3.
God of War Collections, which contains the two previous iterations of the game, will be coming out on a single Blu-ray disc around holiday time. God of War and God of War II will be completely remastered with anti-aliasing graphics (AA), running at 60 frames per second and for the first time ever will be 720p native. Also to top things off, God of War Collections will also have trophy support.
The studio handling the port of the God of War games will be done by Bluepoint Games. Interestingly enough this small third party studio is headed by the former Lead Engineer for Metriod Prime, Andy O’Neil. How is that for setting expectations?
I thoroughly enjoyed the remastered hi-res PSN version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. During its release two years ago, it was considered to be the best looking fighter game out on the market. This was despite the fact it was a PSP port remastered to run at 60fps at 1080p. I hope to see many more remastered classics becoming available in next gen form.
God of War Collections will retail for $39.99, which incidentally costs exactly the same as if you were to buy both games for the PS2 from the Greatest Hits category. For those thinking about picking up the PS2 version just to collect or revisit the game can instead now pick up the God of War Collection for exactly the same price. The fact that many PS3 owners have been asking for this for quite some time pretty much cements the fact that this game will definitely go platinum this holiday season.

If this sells well, then 3rd parties are gonna do exactly the same; just re-release their PS2 games with upscaled resolution with a better frame rate.
Which tbh seems like a win for both publishers and gamers. Publsihers makes money selling their classic games, and gamers get a better experience.
People are already asking for ICO and Shadow of the Colossus to be remastered, as well as Devil May Cry1/2/3 and MGS2/3. This could the substitute for the lack of PS2 B/C.

Sony never said the game was coming this year, and the game never really had an official released date. looking at the history of GoW, you will notice that all 3 God of War games (including the PSP version) were released in “March”. so March 2010 sounds good

Why waste memory if your hard drive dies so does everything else. I know you can re-download the game but still that’s stupid. The file will be huge too. I always prefer disc that’s why i got Warhawk, Burnout Paradise in Blu-ray Disc and i had SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation on Blu-ray Disc too.
I wish to have GTA Trilogy Collection like God of War.
Also this news is a little late it was cover like 3 days ago.
I know this is gonna be a new trend for publishers created by Sony. Another innovation by Sony.

For some reason I thought the back cover of my Chains of Olympus stated GOW III PS3 2009, but it states “Coming Soon.”
I think I assumed “Coming Soon” back in March of 2008 as sometime in 2009.

God of War Collections. What a waste of money for the people who want to actually collect something. This sort of packaging and cashing in really gets on my nerves.
Its done a lot with DVDs. You buy the Saw Boxset with Saw 1, 2, 3 and 4 in it and then they damn well go and bring out Saw 5.
This will be the same with GOW. Next Xmas there will be another GOW boxset with all 3 in it. Ching ching, and the pubs cash in again.
I appreciate that they are upscaling the graphics etc… and possibly adding content but why couldn’t they just wait till GOW 3 was out and do a special collectors bundle for that.

Hell yeah I am glad that they are briging this game series to the ps3. But I also thought that maybe they would release GOW3 in a big box set with 1-2 part of it? I mean they are still going to have a collectors box set and yes Ivan prob somewhere around a bill for, now I just don’t know what’s going to be in it.

Sony sent out a questioneer to gauge interest in a remake. As far as I know nothing similar has happened with the other two games.

That engine was definitely built a couple year ago i bet. Anyways is not that the engine can remaster PS2 games quick is that old they had to do was just make a port that the entire game everything was already done. Sony had this idea in mind for long time i bet. And yes i expect more PS2 games coming like this but maybe from 3rd publisher and Sony some day.

Oh yes… Mike is right… I “heard†from “colleagues†this game will outsell every other game on the market this holiday. It has things never before seen in a game. I “heard†it will have over 3 million characters on screen at once, each with their own AI, and High Dynamic Range lighting.
I even “heard†that people are already lining up with their tents and camping gear in front of retailers just to get a glimpse of this game.
I also “heard†from “colleagues†the storyline was written by Oscar winning screenwriters. The musical score is “heard†to be written by John Williams and played by the London Symphony Orchestra.
Oh, did I mention this game will sell a billion copies? This game, I “heard†from “colleagues†will outsell Halo:ODST by 999 million copies. Oh man……this is gonna sell 100 million ps3s, too, from what I’ve “heard†from “colleaguesâ€.
I also “heard†this game supports over 5,000 gamers on one match on PSN and that sony loves us so much they’re giving us over 100 downloadable maps for FREE.
I also “heard†it can ONLY be developed on the ps3, since it’s is the only console with one-point-twenty one jigawatts of powah, the “cellâ€, dilythium crystals, and a flux capacitor.

You know “activision” jacking up the price of MW/2 because they know people like it. I just hope they don’t follow there example for GOW3 that’s all. I might be wrong Ivan but I thought it always gave me a choice to DL the other firmware updates?(oh-well). kev is just mad because we get a kick-ass game like GoW and he gets stuck with a bad case of Halo STD’s.

Isn’t Activision only doing that for the PC version? As far as I can tell it’s still 59.99 for the PS3/360 ver.
And speaking of companies trying to screw with the fanbase like M$ is doing with Halo ODST, They are not the worse culprit.
Lucas arts is re-releasing The force Unleashed as the Ulimate Sith Edition with a new level in there that will not be available as DLC. It also comes with the two overpriced ($10) SP missions that did appear as DLC. All this for the price of a new game.
There are two more culprits but they are not nearly as bad and for good reason.
Bethesda for Fallout 3 game of the year and Sony with Little Big Planet Game of the year also appearing at full game price.
Bethesda can’t really be blamed as the extra content will appear as DLC anyway so you don’t have to rebuy game. You can just buy the DLC.
Media Molecule has extra stuff on the disc, but it can all be found for free online. The only benefit is modnation racers beta. Stick with the cheaper version and get the DLC for free.

Hell I have force unleashed, and I heard something about them(lucas arts) doing that. I also read somewhere that there is a new mission and you can’t get it unless you rebuy the new version of the game? I am not talking about the new DL content either. If that is true then thats pretty messed up.

I got so mad after I found out that Square Enix got his own section in the Japanese PS store with ALL their PS1 games available for purchase. and when I say “ALL” I literary mean it.
you can find there games like Saga Frontier, Musashi, Xenosaga, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story and more. the only ones missing were FF8 and FF9. it’ll be great if we get a Square Enix space in the US store

Guys, I want to ask a question and i’m not trying to be provokative or wind anyone up on this.
I’ve sat seeing the comments come in on this over the course of the day and I’ve stayed away cos I don’t really know the game and not having a PS3 I don’t have a lot of interest.
I’ve seen GOW2 on my pals PS2 recently.
I know he liked it and thought it was a good game.
But.
There’s a significant % here talking & raving about a reheat of this as if it was ‘game of the year’.
I just don’t get it.
It looks like most if not all of you have played this one to death already so why the big deal?
They’re going to re-res it & do a mild reheat for PS3.
I get the idea that fans of the game are looking forward to the new GOW3……
….. but a retread of 1 & 2?

I never owned the first, but rented it and bought the second.
The game is worth owning and it represents the best the ps2 had to offer at the end of its lifetime.
Since it seems like everyone has a ps2, you should give it a rent Happy.
Only the harshest of cynics and those going into the game drinking hatorade will fit otherwise.
I know its hard to understand, but pick your two favorite Xbox games and would you find yourself repurchasing them if they came out all spruced up for your 360.

the game just never gets old Happy, you really need to play this game! Kratos is the best and the baddest video game character ever created.
GoW1 was GOTY and GoW2 was PS2 GOTY and Action GOTY (Overall GOTY went to Bioshock in 2007)
the way the incorporated Greek mythology into the game is way beyond anybody’s imagination. The combat system is second to none, and no matter hoy many times you play it the combat will never get old. Just Imagine a guy serving the gods for years so the can free him from his nightmare (of all the bad he has done during his life) and once he found out the gods were just using game and failed you honor their promised he is going for blood and all out to kill every single god and destroy olympus to fulfill his revenge…and that is just a small piece of the whole story.

I think the Metroid Prime Trilogy pack is a good example. I already have them all so I won´t buy it . But it is a fantastic deal for anyone who has missed them.

Believe it or not… I’ve only played through the first one. I ended up missing out on the sequel. Loved the first one though, so I will be picking this up before 3 is released.
Isn’t GOW based off of the story of Hercules? They both murdered there own family, they’re both super strong, and have to go through a bunch of trials before they atone for there sins…

I only played the 1st GOW, and my Greek is a little rusty, but I think there are a lot of similarities between the two.
btw… I can’t stand the type to leave the discs upside down (or worse, face down) out of the cases. It drives me nuts. I have a friend that does that.. I can’t help but to put the discs back in the case and on the shelf when I’m there.

SquareTrade the insurance/warranty people have just released their data.
The Jasper Xbox has a fail-rate of under 1%.
Interestingly the PS3 (fat, the slim hasn’t been out long enough to show anything) has a fail-rate of 10%.
Whilst I agree that the early Xbox fail-rate was high (unacceptably so) it’s perfectly clear that it is now fixed and the 3yr warranty is a nice bonus.
(and I don’t call 1 in 10 that great either……maybe pushing Sony for a similar 3yr warranty wouldn’t be such a bad idea afterall?)

it might at 1% for the jasper but the 360 it is still the most unrealiable console based on the overall numbers..
and I noticed those are just based on 500 units during an 8-month period . if you probably take the first 500 PS3s over its first 8 months you probably going to end up with 0% defect ratio.
and of course the Wii is the most reliable console, as it was reported not too long ago that the Wii get the least amount of use by gamers.. I think it was an hour and some change daily use for the Wii. the less you use it the less chances for it to get a system failure. do you agree?

You might note that SquareTrade now charges exactly the same premium for cover for an Xbox and a PS3.

I just noticed something else too.. the 1% its just based on RRoD, which leaves the E74, not reading disc and scratching disc numbers up in the air.
and also since SquareTrade do warranties on electronic product you can say that the PS3 failure rate is not accurate because Sony has come out with so many Sku/version of the PS3 that most customers might say their system is not working just to get the lastest version. I know ppl that have done that to switch thier 40GB PS3 to an 80GB. Personally I have done the same with my PSP, I have a 3000 right now, but I switched my original for a 2000 and then switched my 2000 for a 3000 while they were still under the retail’s $30 warranty.

Jasper came out in Dec 2008.
The 1st year is almost up.
SquareTrade aren’t going away and they have no axe to grind on anybody’s behalf.
The next round of numbers will see the continuation of Jaspers reliability or not.
I’m betting it does.
Just as PS3 slim will see PS3′s reliability improve.
The smaller, lower energy consuming & cooler running hardware guarantees it.
However you want to look at it this data sure as hell beats a mere survey and it’s unverifiable and completely unscientific 50%+ nonsense.

how does a data of a warranty company is more reliable than a survey, both of their numbers can be undesputed. lets your xbox under warranty with “whatever” company. after you warranty runs out and if you system died, that is one system they counting for the research…right? that sound very accurate right?
but hey like I said, that is just me! lets leave it at that.

You guys know what makes picking up GOW Collections better than buying a PS2 Greatest Hits, besides the fact its fully remastered?
It will retain its value longer.
Typically Greatest Hits value less then the original version despite the fact they are exactly the same game.
If you jump on Ebay people selling games will clearly specify that the game is not a Greatest Hits.

That makes no sense and could only damage their reputation and their stock-values.
It is unlikely in the extreme.
Self-selecting respondants to a survey who are never going to have to prove a thing they have claimed is true are a completely different matter and nothing like similar, nevermind the same.

The way this works is obvious.
Look at the PDF, it shows you.
Over 16,000 owners took out their warranty.
That is statistically a nice and large sample.
It’s not just about RRoD for Xbox either (and when RRoD is excluded the fail-rate drops to a more nornal 11.7%) they do split the failures and show other problems that can occur (although none are especially common, even E74 is a problem effecting less than 1% of Xboxes regardless of age.
BTW the data talks about “over 500 Jasper units” being included in the report.

The Microsoft warranty ‘only’ covers RRoD and E74.
Those wishing to have more than the minimum warranty are left with little choice if they believe the rumours and must purchase a 3rd party plan.

Well if you look at what you wrote & then what I said you’d see that I couldn’t make out part of what you’d said.
It’s a clear as mud.
I just don’t understand how come you think there’s equal reliability, value or worth between the info an insurance company will release and a mere survey (with no verification of the claims made by the respondants whatsoever) done by a magazine or website.

because like I said to you, People often lie about a product being defective just so they can get a new one. ( If only you know how many times I have gotten an new Laptop because be abusing my warranty)
and also there could be cases (when the warranty runs out) that will never get reported. all I said was that thier numbers can be “undesputed”. but it’s cool every head is a whole different world

When you’re dealing with sample sizes in the several thousands the fringe handful of dodgy claims become pretty meaningless when looking at the overall picture.
Insurance companies are not stupid, they know a small % will be iffy claims.
You just can’t write the whole report off because you reckon a handful of the cases might not be completely honest.
Besides for the relative reliability between each console that % of iffy claims is more than likely to be much the same.
Unless you reckon Wii owners are less likely to claim for some reason than PS3 or Xbox owners?
