Gran Turismo 5: most advanced racer, but not enough to beat Forza 3?

September 7, 2009

Gran Turismo 5: most advanced racer, but not enough to beat Forza 3? There is very little doubt in the minds of many that Gran Turismo 5 is set to be the most advanced racer ever. From a technology perspective there is nothing out on the market that even comes close to it. However, the feature that may be of most concern is the online community feature in comparison to Forza 3.

Many critics have claimed that Gran Turismo 5 is a tour de force to be reckoned with. The game runs at a stunning 1080p 60 frames per second with 1,000 cars within the game native. In contrast, competitor Forza 3 runs at 720p 60 frames with 400 cars native.

Gran Turismo 5 will also be the first game ever to utilize head-tracking without any peripherals except the Playstation Eye. This means that you will be able to look left or right and the screen will display what you expect to see with full depth view.

Check out the video below to see head-tracking demonstration:

Also, Gran Turismo 5 is the first official licensee to feature Nascar and WRC, and existing races which is something that can’t be found altogether in any other game to date. In essence GT5 is combining three full games like Dirt 2, Nascar and GT.

GT5 may trump the Forza 3 when it comes to the amount of content, quality, and technology wise, but the one area the Forza series excels at is the online community features. I was extremely impressed with the online community functionality with Forza 2. The ability to build a car and sell it at the online auction house is absolutely brilliant.

Gamers could build the ultimate car with a stellar race record and auction it off to the highest bidder. Turn 10 Studios did a phenomenal job of creating a realistic online ecosystem where users can track each car’s history – who was the last owner, how many people owned it, mileage, cost to repair last damage, races won, etc… This feature made it so that gamers became invested in the cars they built, and really raced as if their pink slip depended on it.

The Gran Turismo name and the studio Polyphony Digital is backed by world renowned car show, Top Gear and also well respected by car enthusiasts around the world, such as Jay Leno as seen in the latest Qore episode. Polyphony Digital, one of Sony’s flagship studios has been contracted by Nissan to design the interior display for the GT-R and bodykit for the 350Z. Also, Ployphony Digital worked with Maserati, the world renowned Italian manufacturer.

It truly means something when car manufacturers turn to a software studio for help and ideas. However, if GT5 can’t complete with Forza 3 in the online community realm then it may be difficult to ultimately crown the latest iteration in the GT franchise as the supreme race simulator in the eyes of gamers. Turn 10 Studios raised the bar extremely high with Forza 2 in regards to online community features. It will be interesting to see what Polyphony Digital has up its sleeves for Gran Turismo 5.

On 24th September, we should know everything.

Well how can we argue with Jay Leno?

  3. Spideydog:

    @ Harry. Bah hahahahahaha.

    Aaaaaand cue kev ………

My predictions for this talkback :

    Physics will be mentioned ;)

  5. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

    both games will succeed “.”

  6. Andrew_DS:

WOW, head tracking. That pretty cool feature. So if I look left out of the (UK) passenger window the screen will display what is to my left. Excellent. That is a unique selling feature for GT5. I don’t really understand why others haven’t thought of doing this before.

Oh wait, yes I do. Because if I look left, how the f**k do I see what is on the TV in front of me. Unless you can play 2 player and the second player carries the TV around the room to where you are looking. Now thats a neat idea! DOH!

  7. Bourne:

    “online community features”

Mike does that mean you’re talking about just the fact you can build and sell a car over the net? I think forza will definately be successful on the 360 but GT5 will blow it away. Cmon lets be rational here the facts are on the table.

  8. lock_down:

The only concrete fact about GT5 is 1000 cars, which Kaz confirmed. Any other information is very much dependant on which online translator people used.

  9. harry sachz:

    haha Andrew_DS.

  10. Rimmer:

Andrew_DS, don’t be so slow – you just hook up two extra tvs either side using those extra HDMI ports that come with the PS3 (or was that just the prototype?) and place them either side of you. Duh.

But then you wouldn’t need the head tracking…. hmm, bit of a logic loop there.

  11. Mike Ferro:

    @Andrew_DS,

uh..thats not quite how head-tracking works.. you might want to watch the video above that demonstrates it.

It will allow you to look “over” objects by changing your field of view. For example if you want to see if there is a car not in the field of view on the rear view mirror, all you have to do is move your head over to the side to angle yourself to see your blind spot – just like in real life.

  12. Spideydog:

    Owwwch ….. I think Mike just biatch slapped you andrew_ds !!!! ;)

  13. oldschool1987:

Ah Andrew_DS(double shit) chattin ‘double’ shit yet again.

Soon as i clicked on this page i knew straight away ‘double shit’ would be on here slagging off anything the Wii or DS don’t have.

…..and the award for correctly guessing the number of Angels dancing on that pin-head goes to….

Seriously, like anyone is really going to notice.

60fps is the nice part that means something.
The res stuff (720p/1080p) makes so little difference unless you are using a projector @ over 100″.

It’s just rather meaningless spec chatter for those who get all ‘gooey & funny’ about that kind of thing.

One of the prime reasons why Forza will do so well this time around is because it is in a cracking bundle for the new ‘Super Elite’.

The new 250gb Jasper Elite with 2 wireless controllers and a copy of Forza for less than the cost of the current (bare) 120gb PS3 slim.

    It’s the hit this X-mas.
    Mark my words.

  16. Andrew_DS:

Well I just watched the video ( as I did comment before watching it) and it just highlighted that oldschool “Andrew_DS biggest fan since” 1897 is wrong.

Slagging off something that thee Wii cannot do?!. I seen a youtube video of that over a year and a half ago, where a guy made a head set that incorporated the sensor bar and had the Wii-mote under the tv. He then done that exact demo of the floating 3d balls that you could look around.

    Andrew_DS 1 – 0 oldschool7189

  17. Spideydog:

I do believe Andrew_ds has a point there. Except Ninty has failed to capitalise on this tech though!!!

  18. Akaro:

    Sadly =(.

Also, the guy who had the idea is now working for the Natal project.

  19. Bourne:

I wish they’d just release the game already. I stopped playing GT5:P because of the noobs who used it as bumper cars and also due to the fact that you always get punished for cutting corners when you get pushed off the track by someone else!

Also do you think a normal USB webcam would work in place of the eyetoy?

  20. Victor321:

You’re asking if one of the few franchises in gaming history that is quality through and through is going to be beaten by another near-equally stellar due do its online features?

Online isn’t everything you know. It’s merely either a horrible extension or a worthwhile, long-lasting extension to a game.

Online didn’t matter much last generation, but all of a sudden, this generation has been all about it. Sometimes, people sound like as if, if this game doesn’t have online, then it’s over for that game.

I play lots of online, and although online clearly lengthens the value of the game (the COD, Halo, and Resistance series for example), never depend on online, at least not extensively. Immaturity sparks from it.

  21. Victor321:

    ^.^ meant “near-equally stellar franchise”

  22. Happyhockum:

    Victor

    I am inclined to agree.

However for me COD4 (& 5, although for me to a lesser extent) and Gears2 are all about the on-line experience, especially with a group of friends.

I would like to see games with a stronger single player mode though.
Not everyone has a decent connection and there are times when your connection may be tied up for an age.
If there’s no decent single off-line play then you’re stuck.

  23. Roca.:

The ability to sell cars to others started in Gt1 & 2. So GT devs know what their doing. They have already said you can sell your cars online on either the ps3 or psp. I don’t think forza should be compare to GT, they are racing games (where GT exceed) not “selling cars” games

  24. SW:

MP has become such a big deal with certain genres just because even the best AI sucks donkey balls.

Humans are far more fun to play against.

  25. Mike Ferro:

I thought the Auction House feature was brilliant. I really felt like I was pulling a carfax report for a car that I could buy off there.

Its interesting to see some breadwinner cars on there with several previous owners and its accident history report.

The only thing that annoyed me was the lack of moderation on there. Occasionally I would see racial slurs towards African Americans written all over a car on the Auction House.

  26. JofaMang:

What SW said. Much more joy in knowing that I may have just caused someone to throw their controller against a wall.

  27. Victor321:

    @ Happyhockum:

Thank You for agreeing with me.

  28. Happyhockum:

    Victor321

    My pleasure. :)

    Roca

“I don’t think forza should be compare to GT”

Let’s face it, no matter what Forza was like you’d be waving a PS3/GT5 flag regardless.

  29. lock_down:

“Much more joy in knowing that I may have just caused someone to throw their controller against a wall.”

    hehehe :)

  30. Roca.:

    @ Happy

And you will always be weaving that M$ ad/ elite bundle flag
    I hope it pays off

  31. Happyhockum:

    Roca

The difference is that I have no axe to grind either way.

The new ‘Super Elite’ bundle shown on Amazon Germany is worth commenting upon simply because it is so obviously an outstanding deal.

You’ll not find me waltzing in to rave about Microsoft/Xbox games just because they happen to be Microsoft/Xbox games.

Unlike yourself and one or two others here.

  32. oldschool1987:

actually Andrew_DS it’s 01-01, i called you double shit which gives me the 1st point m8.

And the biggest fan since 1987 was quiet funny as it goes, i admit i even laughed lol.

  33. Roca.:

“The new ‘Super Elite’ bundle shown on Amazon Germany is worth commenting upon simply because it is so obviously an outstanding deal.”

you have been mentioning the same shit (Elite amazon bundle for less than a Slim) on the past 5 articles here at blorge. but guess what most of here know about it and we dont give care. most member here already have a console so why dont you try to convince ppl on some wii forum or something.

I couldnt care less if GT was a Sony exclusive or not, I had a 360 and I had Forza 2, and can say my experience with GT has been more realistic than Forza 2, and I was just making a poing to “Mike” who stated (which he basically said GT5 is by far a better game (technology wise, car wise and graphic wise):

“From a technology perspective there is nothing out on the market that even comes close to it. However, the feature that may be of most concern is the online community feature in comparison to Forza 3. Many critics have claimed that Gran Turismo 5 is a tour de force to be reckoned with. The game runs at a stunning 1080p 60 frames per second with 1000 cars within the game native. In contrast, competitor Forza 3 runs at 720p 60 frames with 400 cars native.”

so based on what he said (above comment) I think a “selling car” feature matters that “much” to make a “head-to-head” compareration between the two.

but idk why everytime i post something you have to look at the wrong side of it. I was just looking at things exactly like Mike said it. I was never looking at them as a Sony vs M$ thing. on the other hand you have said ur not a racing fan so you probably dont see things the way I see them.

but seriously stop the “super elite” campaign because as of right now is just rumors and it not going to get you or M$ anywhere (right now). When there was specticulation of a PS3 Slim for 4 months straight you didnt see none of us going on a “super PS3 slim” campaign. in the contrary most of us were sick of hearing about it.

  34. Roca.:

Edited ****I “dont” think a “selling car” feature matters that “much” to make a “head-to-head” compareration between the two.

“The game runs at a stunning 1080p 60 frames per second with 1000 cars within the game native. In contrast, competitor Forza 3 runs at 720p 60 frames with 400 cars native.” + head tracking

    vs

    Online auction

    ……….. hmmm

  36. Roca.:

^^^ exactly!!, you got my point Barnabe

Totally agreed. Also some people just aren’t interested in online play, due to “bad online behaviour” by some.

  38. Happyhockum:

    Roca

“why dont you try to convince ppl on some wii forum or something”

Oh dear Roca, you’re projecting & giving yourself away again.

““The game runs at a stunning 1080p 60 frames per second with 1000 cars within the game native. In contrast, competitor Forza 3 runs at 720p 60 frames with 400 cars native.”

    That’s assuming 1080p>720p.

The PS3 has only been able to render very basic games at 1080p in the past. The fact that GT5 is @ 1080p suggests to me the graphics are not going to be up there with KZ2.

  40. Spideydog:

    @me_

If the in game graphics are anything like the pic above, your clutching at straws m8. It’s an amazing pic.

And I’m not even a racing sim fan, so I don’t care for either GT5 or Forza for that matter……

  41. me_:

It is a great looking pic.

So are the graphics going to be a major upgrade from GT5:P?

  42. JofaMang:

I assume you haven’t witnessed GT5p, an early build that produces very smooth framerates at 1080p. 18months old build by the time this game releases, which may be as soon as sept 25th according to recent rumours.

  43. JofaMang:

We posted at the same time, heh.

The graphics don’t need a major upgrade, imo, GT5p is stunning, and still a great showpiece for displaying the PS3 to friends that don’t dabble in too much HD. If there is even a minor upgrade, it will be wonderful.

  44. Spideydog:

It will be interesting to see what the finished product looks like, I reckon.

  45. me_:

“I assume you haven’t witnessed GT5p, an early build that produces very smooth framerates at 1080p”

    Oh….. ok then.

Quake II could run with very smooth framerates at 1080p on my Wii, and how can this be? Because the graphics are crap.

  46. Spideydog:

Thats very skeptical of you me_ …… lol

  47. Roca.:

“Quake II could run with very smooth framerates at 1080p on my Wii, and how can this be? Because the graphics are crap”

hahaha, so GT runs smooth at 1080p because the graphics are crap. thanks for opening my eyes.

  48. JofaMang:

Since when does the wii do 1080p?

  49. Roca.:

“Since when does the wii do 1080p?”

just go with the flow!, the dude doesnt even know what he is talking about. (sometimes you have to put up with these ppl)

  50. SW:

Didn’t you know that 480p is the new 1080p?

    Get with the times Jofa.

  51. kev:

actually, mike, the online features aren’t the only features Forza 3 has over GT5.

more realistic physics, better car models, more comprehensive damage, better AI, more tuning options, customizations options, etc, etc, etc..

    *sigh*…oh well…at least you’re consistent….

    ill informed, but consistent…

Is a fucking TROLL with huge fantasy and bigger myths.

He has gone nuts/insane the guy is in total denial. He’s web of lies just seems to grow bigger by the seconds.

We all know Gran Turismo 5 is gonna wipe the floor with Forza MotorSport 3. Microsoft, Sony is gonna buried you alive.

  55. kev:

I don’t know, Ivan. It doesn’t seem that GT5 is much of an improvement over GT5:P. Same graphics, same bouncy physics, same brain dead AI, same damageless cars, same car models, ….the list goes on.

I think it’s very telling that Kaz didn’t show any gameplay footage at E3 this year, but chose to show more non-playable demos of GT5. I guess the crowd still gets “wow”-ed pretty easily, otherwise PD would have the cajones to show gameplay footage. One has so wonder why only Sony devs refuse to show gameplay footage at their press events…

Did anyone else read about Kaz’s team rushing the Forza 3 demo at E3, while taking notes? It’s good to see that Kaz still wants to learn from the best while not being sour about losing his crown to Forza…

I’m sure GT5 will be a fine racer on the ps3. I only think it’s flawed to call it more advanced than Forza when Forza does so much more. Yes, GT has more cars, but Forza has more tracks, more tuning variables, more customizations, more physics, more detailed car models, and more damage.

Wouldn’t that make Forza more “advanced”? From a purely objective viewpoint, the answer would have to be Yes.

Heck, even the author’s only claim to being “more advanced” is based on a simple car-count.

    Oh well…out for the night….

  56. Ivan_PSP:

    kev:
LoL you are just jealous admitted buddy you need to realize Forza MotorSport 3 would never be as good as any GT game. I didn’t know you already played both games damn lucky lier. I’m assuming you play both Forza and GT5 since you accusations.

When i saw the trailer with a NASCAR coming out my jaws just drop pure sick that’s so fucking cool that’s when i made the decision i need to add this next GT game to my collection. Car companies use Gran Turismo to unveil their new cars that a huge big deal. You need a lot of power to get that much attention.

I will buy GT5 and download Forza 3 from my favorite Xbox site. xbox360iso.com/showthread.php?t=63835&highlight=Batman%3A+Arkham+Asylum

You forgot about the 1080p and 60 FPS Kev !!!!!

It does run on an upgraded Quake II engine though.

    I didn’t get that…

  66. JofaMang:

Earth languages have a difficult syntax to learn, this is true…

  67. Arvis:

I can’t believe people are still doing this Forza vs. GT war. In the end, you’re just going to buy the game that’s exclusive to the console you like, and you’re going to convince yourself that YOUR exclusive is the BETTER exclusive, whether or not it’s actually true. And as long as you BELIEVE that it’s better, then it may as well BE better for all the difference it would make.

    -Arvis

  68. JofaMang:

Some of us are actually interested in both (those of us with unhealthy racing game interests, anyhow) and that still doesn’t change anything. It will all come down to how they play, regardless of the claims spewed by marketing and fanboys. In the end, the proof is in the tasting of the pudding. I don’t try to fly a pro-GT5 flag just because I own a PS3, but am annoyed most by those that are anti-GT5 just because they don’t own a PS3. I will own it no matter what, but am seriously intrigued by what FM3 will offer.

  69. Roca.:

    kev’s 9,000 are the best

  70. JofaMang:

Yeah, that is forum fanboy gold stuff there, hah.

  71. kev:

Mike – I figured the car count was the meat of your argument since the others are a simple display resolution (1080p) which has no bearing on how advanced a sim is and 60 FPS (another display feature) which also has no bearing on how advanced a sim is.

So, exactly how is GT5 the most “advanced” again? Simply by adding more duplicates of the same car? I would hope it takes more than that to earn that title of “most advanced”. Lame damage? Check. Lame tunings? Check. Lame physics? Check. Lame AI? Check. Lame customizations? Check.

    “most advanced”? …not by a long shot…

Ivan – breathe, man…breathe…. You said in many other articles how you don’t have a working 360, yet now claim you will d/l Forza 3 to play on your 360. I really wish you’d keep your lies straight. Until then, continue the insanity. It gives me funny moments like, “why have you come to my planet?” Now, that’s comedy… 

You shouldn’t have any problems “getting trophies” on GT5 and PSN. Just continue to bump the other cars out of the way at every corner and you’ll win every time. The same as every other Gran Turismo game to date.

That’s the one benefit of having such arcade-like physics in a “sim”. You can cheat and win with very little, to no, real skill needed. All while convincing yourself you’re playing the “Real Driving Simulator” because that’s what it says on the box. *giggle* … Anyway, out for the day.

jofa – sorry you couldn’t understand the importance of accurate parameters in a sim. someday you will…i promise…..

  72. Roca.:

“jofa – sorry you couldn’t understand the importance of accurate parameters in a sim. someday you will…i promise…..”

  75. kev:

jofa – it’s too bad GT5 doesn’t have more to bring to the table. oh well, at least you have your “ass pounder” insult to try to detract attention from your ignorance. not working tho…

the ignorant always mock that which they don’t understand…

oh the bright side; you have Ivan/Roca defending you… lmao.. now that’s truly sad…

  76. phranctoast:

“the ignorant always mock that which they don’t understand…”

That might be the most rational statement you ever made.

Although it is strange coming from someone basing GT5 off of GT4 and GT5P, but I’ll leave that alone……….woops too late!

  77. Roca.:

    @ Kev

I not defending anybody, the fact that you are a complete idiot who is claiming that a game is better than the other because of err…..uhmmmm 9,000 parameters? or is it 9 millions?

I have played all the GT games and I have also played Forza 2, even though Forza is a Racing Sim, the cars handle themsleves felt more like a arcade racing game, I will still prefer GT2 or GT3 driving engine than Forza’s arcady driving engine.

Overall GT is a better racing game and most of GT5 feature are still unknown. GT is a 50 million units for a reason, GT1 sold over 10 million alone, forza hasnt even surpass that level yet nor has Halo 3. Forza Succeed in one department and that is on its custumization feature other than that it falls short to GT in every other Category. good luck counting parameters numbers though it gives me something to laugh at

  78. Roca.:

I maent to say “GT is a 50 million franchise” in the last paragraph (1st line)

  79. kev:

ROCA – “GT is a 50 million units for a reason,”

    yes, it’s because:
    1. you had to add up every single GT game ever made, including the “prologues”, to hit that number.
    2. GT was the only console sim on the market for a very, very long time.

so, now you’re changing your tune to say sales = quality?

great. Halo and Geow have higher quality than all the ps3’s exclusives put together. ouch.

to say forza is behind gt in all other categories is really silly considering how i’ve spelled it out for you fanboys how forza is better, the testimonials to it and why it’s better than GT games.

go ahead; fall back on the “my opinion” excuse. it’s really all you have left…

the fact you laugh at physics parameters, while bumpercarring off other cars in GT games only underscores your lack of driving experience or sim experience. good luck with that..

phranc – if you don’t think the cars in GT5 will handle the same as GT5:P, you’re in for a very rude awakening. there is a reason Kaz refused to show any gameplay footage at E3…. :)

  80. kev:

roca – btw; the 9,000 physics parameter used in Forza was actually used in Forza 1. Expect it to be higher in Forza 3.

it’s funny wathcing you guys claim the 9,000 is somehow tied to flips and vaults in Forza games, when there was none in previous games. lmao…

  81. Roca.:

Kev: “1. you had to add up every single GT game ever made, including the “prologues”, to hit that number”

those number a before prologue came out you idiot. and prologue sold about 4M units which wont make that much of a difference to the total number.

Kev: “GT was the only console sim on the market for a very, very long time.”

it is still the only Real Driving Simulator, Forza will have to try harder

Kev: “phranc – if you don’t think the cars in GT5 will handle the same as GT5:P,”

uhmmm GT5:P dont even play as it did when it was released, PD have changed/tweaked the driving experience via patches. when will you ever be right about something kev? I offiacialy name Forza the “real flying/rolling car sim”

  82. kev:

Roca – list the total number of GT games you included in that 50 million number. thanks.

sorry, but the game sites, real drivers and gamers have all proven GT games have bumper car physics.

the fact you call this realism only underscores your ignorance….again…

“patches”? for gt5? already, when it’s not on the market yet? wow…you really should learn when not to type…..

Call forza whatever you want. the fact it CAN do flips and vaults while GT5 cars are glued to the track (again) proves the superiority of Forza’s physics calculations over Gt5. maybe in GT6 kaz may attempt this, but doubtful.

like i said, just say “in my opinion”… everything else you wrote is clearly false.

the difference is; i’ve played every GT game to date as well as every Forza game. Forza is clearly the most realistic.

    you haven’t…

  83. lock_down:

kev’s desperation is so painful to watch.

  84. kev:

lock down – the only thing painful is watching teenage ps3 fanboys pretend to know what realism in driving is… lmao…

so, i provide facts, data, and proof and that’s painful? ouch…GT5 must be in much worse shape than i thought….

  85. phranctoast:

““patches”? for gt5? already, when it’s not on the market yet? wow…you really should learn when not to type…..”

He should learn when to type, but you should definitely learn how to read. What did you think? he was sticking his tongue out at you…lol

  86. Roca.:

Kev: “list the total number of GT games you included in that 50 million number. thanks.”

    are you seriouss??? lol

““patches”? for gt5? already, when it’s not on the market yet? wow…you really should learn when not to type…..”

GT5, WTF are you talking about??? did you even read what I wrote???

soo you have played every single GT game huh ? many cars and tracks did GT4 featured?

  87. lock_down:

    Oh, you provide facts?

Like the one where you completely fail to prove the 300 number you keep spouting?

    Another winner, kev!

  88. kev:

lock down – it was Kaz who promoted the “300 physics parameters” of GT4. do a search. I’ve told you several times how to find the quote, yet you refuse to find it….

typical. you ps3 fanboys hate to admit you don’t konw what you’re talking about…. :)

here, i made it easy for you: copy this into google and you’ll find a bazillion articles on it.

    300 parameters gt4

now, until you show me ANY quote from Kaz saying he is upping that number for gt5 (there is none), then 300 is what you gt5 players get to use…. ouch….

  89. lock_down:

Sorry…where is the quote from Kaz? Oh that’s right…there isn’t one, but then I already knew that.

Yet more fail from kev. Did we expect anything else?

  90. SW:

‘roca – btw; the 9,000 physics parameter used in Forza was actually used in Forza 1. Expect it to be higher in Forza 3. ‘

‘now, until you show me ANY quote from Kaz saying he is upping that number for gt5 (there is none), then 300 is what you gt5 players get to use…. ouch….’

    Erm?

  91. SW:

Oh nevermind, I *presume* the Forza creators stated they would have more parameters. Just not how many more…

    My mistake of course………

  92. kev:

lock down – do the research noob. i gave you everything you need. yet you REFUSE to look at the facts….

it’s sad that you call yourself a GT fan and have ZERO knowledge of what goes into the games…lmao…

i gave you the search words. too bad you’re afraid to use them…

come back only when you have….

  93. Roca.:

why are still talking about GT4?

  94. lock_down:

Because he’s insecure about GT5 making the “definitive racing game” look anything but definitive.

kev, there are no facts here. One minute you’re talking about physics parameters, then you change it to parameters. Admit it, you have no clue what you’re talking about and what you’re actually referencing to.

But, if you want to carry on looking stupid, go ahead…. :)

  95. Roca.:

    ouch!

  96. phranctoast:

Is Forza 3 the game with dynamic weather and Time of Day races?

  97. Roca.:

that’s GT as far as I know,

  98. phranctoast:

It must be the game that you can use the camera for the head tracking then right?

  99. Roca.:

    yup..same game!

  100. Arvis:

I’m guessing Forza is the franchise that has it’s own car awards show, right? Didn’t the creators of Forza get asked by Nissan to help create a supercar for them?

    -Arvis

  101. Roca.:

    @ Arvis

nope, they (Nissan) asked Polyphony Digital (GT devs) to create a car for them. and GT is only racing game that has its own car awards show

  102. phranctoast:

    hmmm.. weird….

Then Forza has to be the best selling racing simulation franchise ever… right?

  103. Roca.:

    ^^ also under GT’s belt

  104. phranctoast:

just for shits n giggles I checked out the GT5 “features” on IGN.

    * A first for the franchise, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue supports online racing with up to 16 drivers racing simultaneously on a beautifully rendered race track

    * Race up to 50 high-performance and exhaustively detailed cars, including vehicles from Ferrari, Lotus, Nissan and Mitsubishi

    * Race on stunningly realistic tracks, including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka – then race them in reverse and with alternative routes

    * A new physics engine delivers next-generation vehicle handling. True to the heritage of the Gran Turismo franshise, this new physics engine provides unprecedented realism and authentic handling specific to each car

    * A new in-cockpit view provides a unique perspective for racers and features a customized dashboard for each of the cars in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

    * All-new and improved opponent AI for a nail-biting and more strategic race racing experience

    hmmm. improved AI and physics……

which straw can kev grasp onto now. ;)

  105. Roca.:

he is going to ask you for a link, thats how stupid he is

  106. kev:

It’s funny how they never quite say what is “next-generation vehicle handling”. It’s empty fluff and you guys swallow it. No numbers, no explanation, no examples. This just goes to show that Kaz does not want to go head-to-head with Forza in the physics department. The numbers speak for themselves. 9,000 > 300. sorry.

All-new and improved AI? Really, they proclaimed the same for GT4, which had brain-dead AI. So, what is improved about the AI, exactly? GT5p’s AI is as bad as GT4… seriously… And more importantly, does it come up to Forza’s AI level? Nope.

“improved AI and physics” is a nice quote, but empty with no substance. Until then, it’s just more P.R. b.s… then again, with the poor physics and ai of other gt games, an improvement isn’t very hard.

Arvis – actually, it was Nissan who asked Kaz help design a HUD (not a car, as quoted by Roca) for them, based on his video game knowledge. They wanted the HUD to more closely resemble a videogame HUD. Funny thing; 1. they asked him b/c of his GAMING knowledge, not car knowledge , 2. it’s never made it into mass production, 3. you guys keep hyping this for some reason that has no bearing on what GT5 has.

So, kaz helped design a heads up display for Nissan, and Forza employed professional automotive engineers to ensure the realism and accuracy of their physics. So, which will provide a more realistic driving game? Forza, of course. Congrats on the HUD tho…lmao…

I almost don’t have the heart to remind Roca that the ‘awards shows” that are branded with GT are paid for (sponsored) by PD and Kaz. Money speaks. I guess this means that EA knows more about golf, football, basketball, and NASCAR than sports/driving stars because they have EA sponsoered award shows…lmao… If you truly think so, that explains why you were so easily duped into buying a $600 movie player with less games than the competition….

It’s hilarious you guys can’t even comprehend something as simple as physics parameters. …. Or “parameters” for short…. Lmao… for a bunch of racing fans, you guys are really, really clueless…. No offense…

Give it up fanboys. GT is a has-been. It was great when it was the only sim on the market, but it’s time has passed. It’s been surpassed in every area, except needless vehicle repeats. It seems the only ones who didn’t get the memo are ps3 fanboys… but that’s not suprising as most of you are too young to have any actual wheel-time to draw a comparison from.

Bumpercar racing FTW!!! That really should be GT’s motto since it’s NOT a “real driving simulator” and bumping cars is the easiest way to win with such arcade-like physics. I’m starting to think Roca has never played any GT games since he denied GT has bumpercar physics. Bumping through corners is what GT games are famous for.

“unprecedented realism and authentic handling specific to each car”…so what part of reality allows for cars to bump and propel off other cars to win races? Oh, right…..none…

Well, I’m out for the day. Resume the name calling and other insults. When the facts are presented, insults are all you really have left.

  107. lock_down:

I just love how kev is now spinning physics parameters and parameters into meaning the same thing.

Although I guess when you’re caught out like that, you have to do some back-tracking :)

  108. kev:

lockdown – even funnier how you confuse the two…. then try to blame me… lmao…priceless..

  109. Arvis:

Kev, I tired of arguing this subject with you long ago. So I won’t argue. I’ve done the research a million times over, and there are NO definitive “facts” or “sources” that say one game is officially “more realistic” than the other. There’s just tons of opinions out there. All I want is to ask you one question, as one reasonable human being to another: What’s to stop Yamauchi and PD from just making up a number, say 3 million, and say that’s how many “parameters” that are used in GT? I mean, yeah, I get that Dan Greenawalt once said something in one interview a long time ago about the number 9,000, but I still don’t know what exactly that means. It’s never been fully explained, as far as I know, and from what I can tell, you don’t really know what “9000 Physics Parameters” means either. I understand the Bigger = Better mindset, but I can’t help but feel like it’s more complicated than that.

Anyways, I stick by my original statement that the end experience with these games is relative to the individual who’s playing. Maybe once I have GT5 and Kev has FM3, we can both come back here and just chat about which car is our favorite and why. :)

    -Arvis

  110. kev:

arvis – the facts say Forza is more realistic, the math says so too, the reviewers, the automotive engineers, and even kaz’s team was crowding the Forza 3 display at E3 to take notes, as proof of Forza’s superiority….

” What’s to stop Yamauchi and PD from just making up a number, say 3 million, and say that’s how many “parameters” that are used in GT? ”

because with bumpercar physics in GT games, the lie would be too easy to debunk. besides, Kaz is a game maker and not an automotive engineer. he doesn’t have experience or access to those kind of numbers, nor could the ps
3 crunch them in real time.

I’ve actually explained physics parameters over, and over and over… only to have you close your eyes and claim, “i don’t believe it”… typical…

I’ve got a question for you now, since i answered yours:

what kind of force in nature propels an object in an opposite direction once it comes in contact with another object as seen in every GT game to date?

your original statement is junk. this way, no matter what reality says, a blind sony fanboy can say whateve they want and claim it’s “relative to the individual who’s playing”…

just use the “in my opinion” excuse next time.

  111. kev:

    here, Arvis… a good
Dan Greenawalt artiicle about physics parameters…

hopefully they’ll let the link go through..

    http://www.monstersandcritics.com/gaming/xbox360/news/article_1287074.php/Forza_2_demo_confirmed

  112. kev:

arvis – i posted a link to a dan greenawalt article in which he explains the parameters and what they are…

    hope it went through…

    ‘night all….

  113. kev:

here’s part, in case it doesn’t go through…

let’s see Kaz quote anything like this… :)

“According to Game Director Dan Greenawalt, “Whether it’s the hundreds of thousands of physics parameters captured from countless man hours taking track measurements and capturing car data to harnessing the power of the industry’s most advanced the neural-network search algorithms, non-linear and linear math models as well as AI simulation systems from our Microsoft Research Labs, we’ve turned mountains of real world raw data into a living, breathing racing simulator where the only difference between the game and reality is that you’re not risking life and limb when you hit a wall at 200 mph.”

your turn… where’s a kaz quote to something like this?

  114. lock_down:

I’m still waiting (and have been for about 12 months) for the quote form Kaz where he says they use 300 parameters…

  115. SW:

“as one reasonable human being to another”

    Bwhahaha, comedy gold Arvis!

  116. Ivan_PSP:

    kev has no life LoL

  117. Mike Ferro:

Can’t speak of the physics or damage of either games as I haven’t played either and both are in unfinished state also they are not out yet – but I know both Forza 3 and GT5 will be great games so you guys need to just relax.

As a race car sim fan – how can you not love Gran Turismo? However, I have yet to have a full next gen experience despite Prologue. I have thoroughly enjoyed Forza 2 and its deep online set of features.

I indicate in the article Forza 3 looks to have a fuller experience because of the great online component.
So, not sure why Xbox fans are even arguing against a “pro-Xbox” article.

The Technical superiority has nothing to do with features but purely from a technical standpoint.
GT5 will be the first next gen full racer to run at 1080p 60fps, which i think is a great achievement with stunning graphics like the screenshot I put up. The game will be first of its kind to use head-tracking without any goggles or peripherals beside the cam, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Regardless of if you think these technological achievements are lame or not, it doesn’t change the fact its a technological difference.

Also the fact the developers have 1000 cars, 80 unique tracks (not ribbons), NASCAR, WRC and GT all on 1 disc is a great deal of content as well.

But in my opinion if the online piece falls flat in this day and age, for either of the games then that really detracts from the overall package.

  118. Ivan_PSP:

    Mike Ferro:
You couldn’t said any better ONE DISC gotta love Blu-ray Disc. I also love having 1080p resolution and 60fps that awesome. Plus 100 cars and 80 tracks and NASCAR plus WRC is just truly amazing. Gran Turismo 5 is definitely the best racing game in the entire universe no doubt about it. We know the online is gonna be awesome Polyphony Digital always delivers the best stuff like all other SCE developers is a gift in talent and vision.

  119. kev:

mike – my stance is simply that GT 5 is not the most “advanced” racer on the market. I’ve explained how Forza is.

your stance is that a resolution display of non-gameplay video footage somehow equates to advancement, when the footage shown was nothing more than a marketting video. if you’ve been a GT fan as long as i have been, you’d know that in-game footage always falls short of the marketting video shown pre-launch. resolution has NO bearing on how advanced a racer is.

secondly, you have to buy a separate camera to take advantage of the head turning-thing gimmick you’re bragging about. (turning a $70 game into a $120 game) I’m just curious how this is somehow an advancement when the wii’s controller is just a gimmick according to you and most of the “writers” here. it uses body motion too….

finally, a gimmick like head turning is kinda stupid as your eyes (should) never leave the screen. so….really what’s the point, other than to distract the young fanboys from the fact GT 5 continues to live and die by the bumpercar racing while calling itself a “simulator”…

i guess it worked because here you are, claiming it’s the most advanced sim on the market based on this gimmick, which has yet to prove to even work correctly….

the inclusion of NASCAR, Rally and the other “modes” are also gimmicky as they will not be using realistic physics or driving models, as Kaz has had NO exposure to actual NASCAR cars, driving experience, or the intricate working of stock-car building and tuning to work from. again….more gimmicky fluff… so, is modes the reason? how about Forza’s drag racing or other modes? doesn’t this count as “advancement”? oops…it must ONLY be for gt5….

so, you hype the car-count again…..

my point is that bumpercar physics, brain dead ai, lack of damage, lack of customizations, lack of tuning options (compared to Forza), and needlessly repetitive cars, do not make for the “most advanced” sim on the market. contrary to what you, and the other members of the Sony Defense Force, thinks….

forza has more tracks…so with your theory of “more = advancement”, this means Forza is more advanced than GT5….right? or does this logic only hold for GT games and the ps3?

lockdown – do your own research. all gt fans know Kaz has stated GT4 used 300 physics parameters. i’ve posted enough proof for you clowns to ignore. punch-in: GT4 and 300 parameters into Google….. it’s a really, really hard thing to do apparently…lmao…

Arvis – this is why i don’t like to post articles. you ask for proof, i post it, you run away from the debate…. wtf….

either way, i’ve posted the proof, quotes, facts and data…. you guys have posted nothing but opinion…. \

i think i’m done here as i’m sure the points been made; Forza 3 > GT 5.

(still waiting for any kaz comment that he put this level of research and science into this physics engine)

  120. kev:

oh..and for the record, Mike… display resolution is a FEATURE… .as not everyone can take advantage of it…. not a technical achievement…

    you are such a ps3 fanboy…. gawd…

  121. kev:

hey..i just realized; why did you delete my link, Mike?

are you that much of a fanboy you can’t handle truth?

pathetic…. i never thought gt fans would sink to this level of hate… almost embarrassed i used to be one….

  122. kev:

sorry lockdown…. all my links are getting deleted..

you’ll have to research kaz’s quotes on 300 parameters yourself….

    really, i tried… but mike is…well, you know… mike…

  123. Roca.:

“oh..and for the record, Mike… display resolution is a FEATURE”

and for the record, that sentence alone prove you dont know anything about the subject, you can not put your self any lower!

you dont have any FACTS (or links), dont cant explain what parameters or physics parameters is, or what role they play in a racing game. you have definitely not played any GT games.

since you are still using SD TV I can understand why you dont care about GT5’s 60FPS/1080p.

and they only fanboy here is you!

  124. phranctoast:

I type gt4 and 300 physics parameters into google and I got kevs post..lmao.

omg… it’s on the internet!!!! Now we know it’s true

oh, and if you want links to stay and not disappear while being monitored, maybe you should eliminate the http or www.

  125. JofaMang:

    @kev

Remove the H-T-T-P://www from the link, and it will work fine. Quit being a pussy and back your shit up, invisible ass pounding troll.

You are so technologically savvy that you can predict the differences between two games that aren’t even out, declare one a winner based (again) unknown fizix parameters, yet you can’t get a link to work on a forum? You make Ivan look normal.

  126. kev:

ROCA – The fact that the vast majority of gamers can’t fully exploit 1080p underscores this is only feature.

To prove the point; Do you guys think the rerelease of last gen’s GOW is an “advancement” over current gen games that are in 720p? That really sucks for the ps3 games which are mostly in 720p… ouch.

Since all original xbox games were released in 480p vs. the 480i of most of the ps2 games, does this mean xbox games were more advanced than ps2 games?

Using Mike’s logic, this looks to be the case. Ouch, again…

I’ve already posted the quote from greenawalt regarding physics parameters. I even posted a link, but His Highness removed it. Blame him….

I’m thinking maybe I’m talking too far over your head as you keep asking the same question even after it’s been answered. Next time, just don’t enter the debate if you can’t keep up. cool? thanks.

it’s hilarious that your only defense is simply ignoring the facts presented, refusing to read the data, then name calling. That’ll get you far in this world…as a republican or Rush Limbaugh……lmao..

Btw; sorry sport, but Samsung doesn’t make a 50” SDTV…. It’s funny watching you pretend to be able to see into other’s living rooms….lol…

Well, I think I’ve pretty much proved my point. Realism and accuracy is paramount in a sim. (every true sim racer fan knows this, otherwise we’d all be playing need for speed or midnight club).

    Forza 3 has it. GT5, doesn’t….
    Game over. :)

  127. kev:

    JOFA -
    1. I did back my statements up, with a direct quote from Dan G regarding the physics parameters in Forza 2.. I guess you just forgot to read the quote…lmao.. Forza 3 is actually quite a leap forward from 2. ouch.
    2. Why don’t you hammer mike for claiming GT5 is somehow more “advanced” than Forza 3 when neither is on the market yet? Actually, you don’t have to answer that. The answer is; you’re a silly ps3 fanboy who can’t come to grips with the fact the GT franchise has been outclassed by every Forza game to date. GT5 looks to be no different as no data from the developer can be found that even suggests they come close to the realism of Forza games. Well, that and the fact ps3 fanboys are the biggest hypocrites on the planet No wonder everyone hates ps3 gamers.
    3. you keep bringing up the ass pounding thing. look, I don’t swing that way, but I can respect your decision to live your lifestyle the way you see fit. I’m just not into guys…but I think it’s okay that you are. Good luck…love can be hard to find… :)
    4. it’s spelled “physics” not “fizix”.

I’d suggest a spell check before posting. You look very foolish (Ivan’s level) when you misspell something you’re supposed to understand.

oh well…at least you have 1,000 bumpercars to choose from…lmao….

  128. JofaMang:

Haha, my intentional misspelling of the word was a joke. Not a surprise that you are too thick to get it. You still haven’t backed up any of your bullshit, though, and that isn’t surprising.

  129. kev:

    JOFA – just for you..

    monstersandcritics.com/gaming/xbox360/news/article_1287074.php/Forza_2_demo_confirmed

you’ll have to add the http//www.

i couldn’t find a quote from kaz, but since you ps3 fanboys like wiki so much, here’s a quote about GT4…

“500 to 700 parameters define the driving characteristics of the car physics model”

    so, let’s just say 700 parameters…

    9,000 > 700… ouch…

  130. kev:

    jofa – sure ….. a “joke”…

  131. Roca.:

    Kev: “ouch”

    lmaooo!

  132. kev:

jofa – well, i backed it up… where did you run to…? LMAO!!!

  133. Roca.:

that doest prove anything about GT5…ouch!

  134. JofaMang:

Again, quoting numbers from a 5 year old game. You owned me so hard, I am gonna go smash my PS3, pull out the cell processor, make my own cruise missile to bomb PD’s headquarters.

OUCH! LMAO! OHSNAP! ROFLCOPTER! By your standards, I just owned you right back.

How about backing up the claims your are making about GT5? Oh wait, you can’t. Go FUD yourself in your dark, lonely apartment, where the only one who listens to you is your almost empty bottle of Jim Beam. Even Jimmy is sick of your lame shit. I am just gonna go back to ignoring your weak-ass bullshit.

  135. kev:

roca – actually it proves you and the other ps3 fanboys know nothing about Forza and even less about GT games. ouch….lmao..

  136. kev:

jofa – actually, the GT5 engine is based on the GT4 engine, but only with moderate upgrades.

I’ve done a LOT of GT5 research and it has certainly nowhere near the physics parameters stated in Forza games. otherwise, show a quote from gt’s developer (as i did with forza’s) that state otherwise… i’d love to read it.

aww….more personal insults… did the bad game hurt your feelings? lmao…

  137. kev:

“I am just gonna go back to ignoring your weak-ass bullshit.”

read: i’ m gonna run away from the fact i got my ass handed to me in a debate and i have no intelligent rebuttal. :)

  138. kev:

out for the weekend, gents….and Roca.

    have a great one!!! :)

JOFA – don’t take this so seriously dude. otherwise, you’ll end up like Ivan…manic depressive living in a fantasy world… :)

  139. lock_down:

    “i couldn’t find a quote from kaz”

Even though you’ve been saying for the duration that “Kaz said” 300…what a joke you really are…

  140. phranctoast:

GT5 better not disappoint or we’ll never hear the end of it.
I’m predicting it will score higher and sell more then kev will run out and buy a ps3.

  141. SW:

You can almost predict the arguments after both games are released…

If GT5 outsells Forza then it will be all about sales figures not being the end all. If Forza outsells GT5 then its all about sales data!! ;) Factor in metacritic scores etc and you have a jolly thread right there………………………………..

  142. lock_down:

“Factor in metacritic scores etc and you have a jolly thread right there………………………………..”

I’m already looking forward to that thread… ;)

  143. kev:

lockdown – let’s see, the quote was made 4 years ago… good luck digging that up, genius…

it’s no wonder you attacked this aspect of my post while ignoring the wiki info that underscored what i was saying…

if i DO find one that i can post, will you admit you have no idea what you’re talking about then?

simple yes or no will do…. thanks.

  144. kev:

lockdown – you’ll have to add the http://www

    answers.com/topic/grand-turismo

    futuregamez.net/ps2games/gt4/gt4.html

all of this information came directly from PD….

    D’OH!!

you really shouldn’t have hit the sumit button…lmao…

so, don’t you find it weird that i, a forza fan, would know more about the GT franchise than you? sheesh….i thought you guys were racing fans… i guess only ps3 fanboys….

here’s a great read about how Forza has more features than GT5 as stated by Kaz himself:

    games.kikizo.com/features/gt5_kazyamauchi_iv_oct07_p1.asp

    ouch…

    have a great weekend!!!

  145. kev:

lockdown – sorry but the other post went to moderation.

you’ll have to add the dub, dub, dub, tho..

so, don’t you find it weird that i, a forza fan, would know more about the GT franchise than you? sheesh….i thought you guys were racing fans… i guess only ps3 fanboys….

here’s a great read about how Forza 3 has more features than GT5 as stated by Kaz himself:

    games.kikizo.com/features/gt5_kazyamauchi_iv_oct07_p1.asp

    ouch…

    have a great weekend!!!

  146. lock_down:

“will you admit you have no idea what you’re talking about”

What exactly have I been talking about? All I’ve asked you to do is prove a number you said came from Kaz…which you haven’t done. I mean come on, it’s your golden rule…back up your stuff with facts.

  147. kev:

    lockdown – i just did… with links…

now admit you don’t know what you’re talking about…

  148. lock_down:

    “answers.com/topic/grand-turismo”

Oh yeah, I believe anything on that website, especially when their specialist subject is “Grand” Turismo, haha…

No quote from Kaz, just the same link you gave me months ago…we already discussed how “futuregamez” had nothing from Kaz, remember?

You just keep sinking lower and lower…

  149. kev:

so..i provide you data that is being advertised from PD (kaz’s company) and you STILL ignore it?

    gawd..you’re pathetic… i guess you’ll only accept a sworn affidavit from Kaz…lmao…

believe what you want.. the fact remains, the physics of Forza games are faaar more realistic than any GT game to date… including what you’re going to get in GT5…

i’ve shown you articles, links, quotes, and data…. still not good enough for you…

to use your words: “what a joke you really are…”

  150. Mike Ferro:

    @Kev,

“forza has more tracks…so with your theory of “more = advancement”, this means Forza is more advanced than GT5….right? or does this logic only hold for GT games and the ps3? ”

This statement makes me wonder if you have ever played a Forza game before or a GT game at that. There is a glaring mistake in your statement that someone who have played both would know about it.

The first reader to catch this mistake gets a virtual cookie! ;)

  151. Roca.:

forza doest not have more tracks, GT4 has over a 100 tracks and Forza 2/3 has many tracks with many layouts

  152. Roca.:

and GT has better driving physics of course ;)

  153. Ivan_PSP:

Damn i want that virtual cookie to put venom on it and give it to kev maybe he will die LoL once and for all.

  154. kev:

let me rephrase, just for Mike Ferro…

    Forza 3 has 100 tracks… GT5 is said to only have 80…. D’OH!!!

    gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-game-features-announced/

    so…. quantity still equal quality?

why did you duck my question about GOW re-release being more advanced than most ps3 games?

I think you know what you can do with your virtual cookie…lmao..

  155. kev:

roca – riiiight…because everyone knows that bumpercar physics are “better” than reality..

    GT5: The REAL Bumpercar Simulator…..lmao..

it’s so sad you gusy just can’t admit the 9,000 > 300 (heck let’s say 1,000 just to be generous).

even toddlers can tell you that….

  156. kev:

Mike – i just thought about something.

since your idea that 60fps is an advancement and not a feature, that proves that multiplats running at 60 fps on the 360 vs. the 30 fps of the ps3, underscore the fact that the 360 is a more advanced gaming console than the ps3…

    ouch…

  157. kev:

mike – how can you say GT5 is more advanced when the creator of GT5 says Forza 3 has more to offer?

    games.kikizo.com/features/gt5_kazyamauchi_iv_oct07_p1.asp

    …just curious… thanks.

*yeah, i’m bored on a saturday morning…so what?*

  158. kev:

hey…great news for true racing sim fans:

Forza 3 has gone gold. gonna be su-weeeet!!

  159. lock_down:

kev, can’t you just wait for two more weeks until GT5 is unveiled properly before spouting what it will or won’t have…

  160. kev:

lockdown – i already know. i’ve been reading about it for over a year now…

i guess, i should disregard GT5’s creator comments of Forza 3 offering more? i’ll take his word of you fanboys anyday…

GT5 was already unveiled at e3…where were you?

heck, even GT5’s developers were impressed with Forza 3 enough to interview Turn 10 about Forza 3 to get new ideas and a fresh perspective in sims…

    vg247.com/2009/06/08/polyphony-digitals-forza-3-e3-try-out-proves-competition-is-good-says-turn-10/

if GT was the pinnacle of racing like you fanboys claim, wouldn’t Turn 10 be the ones interviewing PD? D’OH!!!

I’m just glad PD is finally taking sims seriously enough to want to learn from the best…. maybe GT6 will surpass the Forza franchise and re-claim the sim crown…

then again…that’s a HUGE “maybe”…. Kaz is too arrogant to really learn much at this point, imo….

  161. kev:

lockdown – why didn’t you ask the same question of Mike’s claim that GT5 was ther most “advanced”, btw….

    bah…we both know why, don’t we… :)

  162. lock_down:

I don’t know what you’ve been reading for a year when GT5 was only announced 3 months ago…

I haven’t questioned Mike’s claim that GT5 won’t be advanced, and neither have I endorsed it…because we haven’t seen anything to come to any conclusion.

You seem to know everything about GT5 when all we’ve seen is a two minute trailer and an old GamesCom build.

It’s funny you go on about facts, because when it comes to GT5, you have nothing except speculation and conjecture.

Although I guess when you’re insecure about GT5 showing the definitive racing game of this generation up, you have to have to resort to something desperate :)

  163. Mike Ferro:

Roca is very close… but no-one nailed it on the head yet.

Here is another clue given by kev:
    kev: “Forza 3 has 100 tracks… GT5 is said to only have 80…. D’OH!!!”

kev, right now Im absolutely positive you’ve never even touched at GT4 or Forza 2.

  164. lock_down:

Yeah, uniqiues….and no knows about the tracks in GT5…it’s what I keep trying to tell kev.

Depending on what translation you read you get completely different interpretations.

  165. Roca.:

    uhmm…

-GT5 has 80 “confirmed” tracks, there many tracks that hasn’t been revealed yet!

if thats not the answer then mayb:

-There are 14 tracks (including two DLC tracks) which total 47 different configurations. There are over 300 cars available in Forza Motorsport 2.

-Forza 3 has 400 cars from 50 manufacturers

-while GT4 (a PS2 game) has about 100 tracks and features 721 cars from 80 manufacturers.

FM3 might as well compete agaisnt GT4 … ouch!

  166. kev:

lockdown – here’s an article over a year old about GT5p…

remember; gt5 is a simple evolution from gt5p…

    infoworld.com/news-feed

whatever you say, mike…whatever you say…lmao…

  167. kev:

sorry, the link doesn’t work to the right page…

do a google…not hard finding year old articles on gt5, lockdown…

    D’OH!!!

  168. Ivan_PSP:

    kev:
Your a total fanboy and a pure moron the word was made for you.

  169. kev:

ivan – maybe if you had more facts to use, you wouldn’t have to resort to insults as some sort of rebuttal….

oh well….maybe GT6 will be something to brag about….. but most racing fans doubt this…

  170. phranctoast:

One would guess that “Most” racing fans would be an indicator of fans, or fanbase. Well….sales will tell you how “most” racing fans feel. They have so far with GT sales. They will again once Forza 3 and GT5 come out.

  171. Roca.:

so far we dont know nothing about either game, but what we Know GT5 seems to be superior by a huge distance.

    - GT5 vs Forza 3

    -1080p vs 720
    -1000 cars vs 400 cars
    -head tracking vs ???????
-ability to take your even/cars on the go (psp) vs nothing
-track racing, Nascar and W2R vs just track racing
-real time dynamic weather vs plain steady weather
-real life like physics vs arcady fizix
-1 disc vs 2 disc (for less content)
    -Polyphony Digital vs Turn 10

  172. kev:

roca – “real life like physics vs arcady fizix”

so, you think a game makers knows more about accurate physics than automotive engineers who work with them for a living? lmao….priceless…

it’s funny you ignore GT5’s creator’s comment that Forza offers more than GT5…
when you fanboys start thinking you know more than the creators themselves, it’s time to hang up your controllers… it’s over… lmao…

  173. phranctoast:

    Wow. kev..reaching much?

heres the interview portion that kev is mentioning.

“Kikizo: Could you give us your opinion on Forza MotorSport 2 for the Xbox 360, and in particular, the ability to reskin your car in very great detail – are you going to have this degree of superficial car customisation in GT5?

Yamauchi: Straight off the bat, I think that in terms of feature sets, Forza is ahead of us. They have more options, you can do basically anything. We take a different approach obviously – we try to concentrate on what are the core values for a racing game, and we try to elevate those standards up as high as we possibly can. I am having difficulty trying to explain the differences, but one way you can look at it is, you can buy a watch that is super multifunctional, but economical, or a watch that is reduced in functions, but premium – higher end. ”

Superficial car customization was what the question was about.

News flash Forza will allow you to paint your car with more options while GT concentrates on the actual core racing element.

    Good link kev.
I wish all your links made you look like an ass.

  174. kev:

sorry, phranc, but your translation doesn’t equal to kaz’s comments..

actually Forza has deeper customizations that go well beyond superficial as they realistically impact the handling and performance of the cars…not so in GT5… ouch….

good translation; the fact you think you know more than Kaz about GT5 makes you look like an ass….

so now GT5 is like a fine watch? hmmm…..must be, because it’s certainly not like a realistic sim… :)

  175. kev:

    i love this part:
“the core values for a racing game, and we TRY to elevate those standards up as high as we possibly can. ”

…while continuing the bumpercar physics legacy…

    oh yeah…that’s really “high”…lmao…

  176. phranctoast:

I love the part where you only use his interview when you think it benefits your argument, but now that it’s been established that it doesn’t you’re back to ripping specific things he talked about apart.

    At least you consistent…

kev, our resident fart in the wind.

  177. Roca.:

oh please we all know you have not play either Forza or GT!

and I understood Yamauchi’s comment clearly, but you are to blind to comprehend it

  178. phranctoast:

I’d like to know if all the parameters (calculations) are for physics or are the huge number quoted by kev all the time telemetry calculations also.

  179. Roca.:

    Kev definetely wouldnt know!

  180. kev:

I don’t think Phranc understands telemetry. It’s nothing more than a measurement and reporting (visually or audibly) of information on the car in motion. Yes, EVERY Forza game has had real time telemetry and can be viewed during driving by going to the options menu. The parameters are merely force variables as they impact the information being measured.

Now…. Does GT5 have real time telemetry to be viewed to dial in your car like Forza 3 does? I’m guessing no…. so this is one MORE “advancement” that Forza 3 has that GT5 doesn’t. Ouch..

Parameters and calculations are NOT the same thing, as you said. This is over your head, so I’ll let you believe what you want. I’ll just point and laugh…

I’m wondering if they were talking about painting cars as “superficial”. If so, it’s one MORE “advancement” Forza games over any GT game, that’s for sure.

Well, if anyone is an experts on farts, it would be you ps3 fanboys. After all, you do tend to gravitate towards the vast amounts of hot air billowing from Mike.

Anyway, I’m certain I’ve proved my point. Forza 3 has far more advancements than GT5 as proven by the science, data, and experience. GT5 has a lot of (repetitive) cars and a nice display resolution (that the vast majority of players won’t be able to enjoy). That’s about it.

C-ya at the next Mike Ferro topic. I can’t wait to read what wonderful thing the ps3 has in store for us or how terrible the 360 is. Lol.

  181. Ivan_PSP:

    kev:
You such a fucking troll get life loser. Face the fact GT is the best racing game.

  182. kev:

ivan – actually, GT5 doesn’t have any porsches while forza 3 does.

oh..and Kaz lied to you fanboys… GT5 won’t launch until 2010…NOT for xmas like you swore….

    ouch….lmao…

  183. kev:

    destructoid.com/tgs-09-forza-motorsport-3-vs-gran-turismo-5-149770.phtml

    it’s over.. Forza 3 wins….

sorry, fellas… i know how much this hurts. i was a huge gt fan for a looong time…
