Uncharted 2 reviews trickle in – a reason to own a PS3?
Is it me or are things suddenly looking up for the Playstation 3? The PS3 Slim with a lower price point seems to have grabbed many people’s attentions, and the new advertising campaign is a lot more memorable and on-target than previous campaigns. And then there are the multitude of new exclusives hitting the console over the next six months or so, the first of which is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Here is a system that has so far promised a great deal and, it has to be said, delivered far less than what was hoped. It’s not without its must-have games – Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune being my pick of the bunch (check out our Top 40 PS3 exclusives for more) – but it’s arguable whether any of these are system sellers.
And now comes Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the sequel to the already-brilliant original. Announced and unveiled a year ago, the game is finally being released on Oct. 13 in the States and a few days later in Europe. The first reviews are now starting to come in and they are universally positive. In fact, two of the first officially recognized reviews have given the game perfect scores.
Playstation: The Official Magazine got in there first and gave the game 5 out of 5. With a scoring system out of 5 and the fact we’re talking the official magazine here I guess that was inevitable.
However, GamesRadar has now given it 10 out of 10 and described it as “brilliant,” “amazing,” and “a killer-app” likely to drive Xbox 360 fanboys to tears. While IGN has given it 9.5 out of 10 which while not perfect is still mightily impressive. They describe the graphics as “the best of the best” and talk up every other aspect as well. In essence, reviewers are stating this is a game without a weak spot.
The reviews so far have praised the graphics without hesitation, and even the above trailer suggests they are the best we’ve yet seen in a video game. The storyline is also top notch, and the voice acting and script are good enough to help blur the lines between games and movies, although this is an interactive movie that will last you at least 10 hours. And then there is the new multiplayer, which again has elicited nothing but praise.
I’m sure there will be some reviews in the coming weeks that focus on the small aspects of the game which could be improved, and the scores may unfairly reflect that, but overall it seems Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one game that has convinced reviewers of its brilliance. The question now is whether it’s the game that can persuade the mainstream that they need to buy a PS3.

Sony have marketed a few games well. I remember the Assasins Creed ad was really cool but ms advertise a lot more games during big sports events which seems to catch their demographics better.
Uncharted looks good. Can’t really see any xbox users buying a ps3 to play it on but if it’s marketed well I could see it maybe swaying new customers although how many undecided people are still out there???

LBP reviewed great too, along with many other PS exclusives.
If Sony do well they’ll keep up with Microsoft, that’s the best that can be expected.

UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is my #1 most wanted game this year no doubt about that. The game looks perfect plays perfect will be perfect the online beta was perfect the new online features look perfect like recording your matches.
You get 5 vs 5 Competitive and 3 Co-Op. Top Notch graphics. Twitter LoL, why weird. Great game play very simple to pick up and play. Recording my matches will help a lot. Earning in-game money to buy new stuff a must have great thing also the level progression wow. This is a must sell your Xbox 360 games or console and get your hands on this jaw dropping mind blowing amazing new sequel from Naughty Dog.

All Naughty Dog games have awesome must see stories. Agree the voice acting and script are wonderful too. 10 hours of gaming is very nice and enjoyable good enough. The multiplayer is the best part for me.

Every detail that i known so far looks perfect no complaints. Only biased idiots would say something bad once they see the check from Microsoft. All reviewers should be proud of having a great time while playing this game in their job. This game truly is brilliant.

No game can really sell any console it helps just a little more. But if there were such a game this will definitely be one of those games. And i know for sure that every who loves the first game will be buying this and all PS3 owners will buy it too if they have the money, which you know we all do. I hope GameStop does a midnight launch like Killzone 2 for this game so i can buy fast and play it through the whole night. I hope Sony does big commercial and billboards for this game all over the states and across the world too.

If you still don’t own a PLAYSTATION 3 you much not like games or you just on denial or don’t the money to buy it yet. But you need a PS3 if you love great games and features and quality and everything else.

Demon Souls, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, God of War Collection, and Ratchet and Clank Future ACiT vs. Magna Carta 2, Halo 3 ODST, Forza Motorsport 3, and L4D2… not counting all the great multiplats coming out this holiday season…
I’m fairly sure 360’s offerings will sell better (by way of Halo being so popular and Forza having more time than GT5 on the market this year, let alone their marketing of MW2), though I’m also fairly certain I will have more fun with Uncharted 2, God of War Collection, and Demon Souls rather than Magna Carta 2 and L4D2.
Other than that, for the multiplats there is still Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Alpha Protocol, Brutal Legend, MW2, Assassins Creed 2… the list goes on and it’s still more than I can play in one holiday season even though they did move many back to Q1 2010.

Forza MotorSport 3 can’t come close to touching Gran Turismo 5 (fact}. As for Left 4 Dead it might not suck as much but is still going got be like the first one pure mediocre (fact). And yes you will have more fun playing PS3 exclusives because like always those are the only real games gamer enjoy the rest are all garbage. Without the help of multiplaform they will be no Xbox 360 but only a PS3.

CarlB is right, More fun on the PS3 better sells on the 360….as sad as it sound ODST will outsell almost everygame this year (except MW2 which is sad also). Forza on the other hand will not outsell GT5 in world wide sells Forza 2 couldnt keep up with GT5:P even though it was out on the market longer than GT5:P. L4D2 will sell well too.

Roca and Ivan, I think you both misunderstood what I wrote about GT5 vs Forza in sales. I stated Forza will have been on the market since Nov whereas GT5 is scheduled for Dec 29, therefore Forza has the edge this calendar year only. Of course GT5 will probably sell better in it’s lifetime, as the series has been on the market almost a decade longer and has a fanbase reflective of this and it’s two more iterations within the series, let alone the ridiculous amount of money and time invested in GT5. Will it beat MGS4 as the best selling PS3 exclusive (still behind two multiplats) and get better reviews? Yet to be seen.
Yes 360 will move more units of software this year overall than PS3, however, Sony has a great chance of moving more hardware this holiday season when compared to 360 due to the PS3 redesign and price drop combined. That said, even if the 360 has “only” about an 8 mil lead in hardware, it still has about a 30 million lead in software sales, so there is still some ground to be covered there by Sony.
Regardless, I will most likely still have more fun with my PS3 exclusives this year than with what 360 has to offer… but considering the sheer amount of non-exclusive titles that are coming out, 360 only owners will not be bored.
And Ivan, just to correct you, Microsoft loves making money, sometimes they write checks to do so, as does Sony. This year at least, as perhaps in some years past, it seems Microsoft will be more successful at the game, whereas Sony will have added at least one must buy title (Uncharted 2) to it’s library (which they wrote at least one really big check for, so let’s hope it pays off in really big sales).

Microsoft barely has any good games to sell or any exclusive so i don’t see them selling more software. I have just been looking at some higher res gameplay trailers on gametrailers.com and I don’t see the hype about the graphics. There are some nice reflections and focal depth effects, but the modelling seems repetitive, the character animation seems a bit tired and stilted (except for the grappling moves which look really good and fresh). the vegetation looks too simple (very Just Cause). The textures and modelling don’t seem that different that the latest tomb raider TBH. I just hope the gameplay and story writing lives up to the hype, because sofar I haven’t seen anything that makes we want to switch to the PS3 just for that game. Killzone 2 still retains the crown for best console graphics if you ask me.

I will say this, I did not think I would like Uncharted and it sure as hell was not why I bought a PS3, but Naughty Dog made me a believer and a fan of the series. They really did seem to put alot of time and effort into making that game great and it shows. If only more studios or devs would start trying to raise the bar in game making like “NDog” then it would be alot more fun and better for all us gamers.

Well, being a PS3 and a 360 owner Ivan, I have to agree, as I play all the really great multiplatforms on 360, plus it’s exclusives, and then just use the PS3 for it’s exclusives only. 2 so far: Uncharted was wonderful (when it didn’t freeze up due to the update), and MGS4 was a boring fan service movie (LMAO every time Otacon cried). 1 for 2 ain’t bad.
Btw, you mysteriously forgot Fable, Mass Effect, L4D, Forza, and Shadow Complex… 360’s not just about the greatest online exclusive first/third person shooters you know. LOL.
