The PS3 so far hasn’t really been the huge success Sony must have envisioned. It has failed to sell in the numbers needed to take it from last position in the home console market, losing out to the Xbox 360 and the Wii so far in its short life. But will the release of the PS3 Slim, which echoes the release of a slimline version of the PS2, mean the Playstation 3 can now outpace and outperform its predecessor?

One of the spiffiest additions to the PS3 firmware 3.0 is the dynamic themes. The dynamic theme feature actually adds a bit of life to the dull static wallpaper behind the XMB. However, the glaring problem with the theme is the ridiculously high $2.99 price tag.

The PS3 Slim has now been on sale for over a week and preliminary sales figures are starting to trickle in. Suffice to say, things are looking up for the Playstation 3. But will this sales boost continue past the initial buzz? And if so, what would this resurgence mean for the Wii and Xbox 360?

There is very little doubt in the minds of many that Gran Turismo 5 is set to be the most advanced racer ever. From a technology perspective there is nothing out on the market that even comes close to it. However, the feature that may be of most concern is the online community feature in comparison to Forza 3.

There is a bit of controversy over some comparison shots of Final Fantasy XIII from the previous build and the new build, which was distributed by Square Enix two months ago. There is an apparent downgrade in graphics on the new build and many gamers are blaming the Xbox 360 version of the game.

I always like to look ahead to the future of gaming, sometimes even at the expense of enjoying the present. But it looks as though I may as well get on and enjoy the consoles currently on the market, because it’s likely their successors are a long way off. Seriously, don’t hold your breath for the PS4 or Xbox 720 to make an appearance anytime soon.

It may be a slow video game news day, but there is still a good deal of interesting bits of information to come out today. There is a rumor about a 250GB Xbox 360 in the wild and info on a way to get a PS3 Slim for $199 with a catch. Also, apparently the new PS3 firmware 3.0 may be doing some harm to controllers. As all Playstation 3 owners are no doubt now aware, there is a new firmware update available for the system. PS3 Firmware v3.00 has been a long time coming, and all sorts of promises were made about what it would include. It turns out to be a huge disappointment that has improved little, made some things worse, and is causing certain games, the Web browser, and even the system itself to freeze. Clearly another great move by Sony.

Two of the most iconic PS2 games is set to hit the PS3 in a new and remastered way. Sony recently unveiled yesterday that God of War Collections will be released this holiday 2009, which will be completely PS3 enhanced from trophies to graphics. This will definitely be a hot holiday item for gamers.

The Xbox 360 received a dashboard shortly after E3, now its the PS3’s turn to receive a firmware update right after Gamescom. The update refines the overall experience of the XMB on the PS3 as well as few additional cool features have been incorporated via firmware 3.0.
