A sore subject regarding the Xbox 360 is around the mod community or hackers running rampant with the console. It looks like Microsoft is doing another clean sweep of XBL users who have a hacked Xbox 360 by banning their accounts. In other news, early reports seem to indicate that the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta is more popular than the PS3 version.

Things are finally looking up for Sony in terms of shifting consoles, with sales of the PS3 up massively in Q2, 2009. However, the company’s gaming division has still made a huge loss, which definitely takes the positive edge off the unit sales somewhat. The key now is for Sony to turn the improved sales into profits, if that’s actually possible.

I hate seeing a genre of game milked until its teats shrivel up and die. And that’s exactly what is happening to the guitar/band-based rhythm-action games right now. DJ Hero is bad enough but at least that takes the genre in a new direction (away from rock music and into the world of Hip-Hop and R’n'B). The new Lego Rock Band just gives us more of the same.

This week in video gaming news there are new releases and new revelations about games out on the market. Forza 3 has a bit of a physics mishap and Ballad of Gay Tony shakes the GTA community. Also, there is an interesting video showing what Sony could have done with the Eyetoy if the company just had the foresight.

Halo 3 is the biggest title to hit the Xbox 360. The game is so popular it has literately cemented itself within the number one spot on the top 10 Xbox 360 Live active titles. Surprisingly, Halo fans seem to be sticking to Halo 3 over ODST, which is sitting at number four. Will Halo 3 remain on top with great games coming out this holiday?

Rumors of a follow-up to the Wii have been coming thick and fast almost as long as the original Wii has been out. Nintendo has never admitted the new hardware exists but reports of a Wii 2 or Wii HD being in development have persisted. And now there’s a new one, with the ‘Wii2′ supposedly set to be released worldwide late in 2010. Possibly.

The PS2 has just celebrated its ninth birthday in the United States, with it originally being released on Oct. 26, 2000. Sony has often spoken of a 10-year life cycle for the console so does this mean the Playstation 2 has but a year left before being put out to pasture? Not at all.

Netflix and Sony recently revealed a new partnership. Considering Microsoft’s belief that the company has some sort of exclusivity with Netflix, this news was a bit confusing. The great Michael Pachter believes that the Netflix disc for the PS3 is to circumvent the deal with Microsoft.

Very few of us who were gaming in the N64 era will be able to forget playing Goldeneye 007 on the console. It was a genius game that still stands up to scrutiny if you can get past the distinctly unimpressive graphics. Although for the time, they were astoundingly good. For some reason, no Bond game since has been able to top Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64. But maybe Goldeneye 2010 on the Wii could.

Wii Fit Plus is already out in most of the world, with Europe being the last territory it is releasing in this week. And with that comes approval of the game from the British government in the form of the Department of Health. Video games are usually condemned as unhealthy both for body and mind, so Nintendo must be reveling in this vote of confidence.
