Brutal Legend will rock your *#$&@ socks off!
It’s been a long wait for fans and director Tim Schafer who were nervously pondering the existence of Brutal Legend after a corporate merger left the game in the air. Ah, but the time has come, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited about next week’s release of Brutal Legend. With larger than life voice actors and a soundtrack that is guaranteed to please rock and metal fans alike, will it live up to such high expectations?
Brutal Legend, at first glimpse, is a horrifically beautiful fantasy rock world complete with mountains made of amplifiers, killer spiders that spin guitar strings, and Rock Legends roaming the landscape. Each element is modeled and colored after rock and heavy metal albums, all of which is consistent with every other in-game element; nothing looks out of place.
There are over 80 unique characters divided amongst 3 factions: The Drowning Doom, a living dead faction led by the character Ophelia, The Tainted Coil, evil looking creatures controlled by Doviculus, and The Ironheade, a faction run by the main character Eddie Riggs, – who unfortunately runs around in the demo with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
The demo played out more like a movie, with a brief pause asking permission for profanity and gore. The monotony of your typical hack n’ slash game seemed to be broken by the clever timing of the videos, the voice overs, and of course, the Deuce – which is the main characters wheels for the duration of the demo. Battle is done through the use of your mighty axe .. and your guitar, which some may consider to be an axe as well. Controls were simple, though we’re hoping to have a wider range of movements (such as flying) in the final release.
The soundtrack to Brutal Legend is untouchable, touting over 100 tracks from 75 different bands such as Ministry, Rob Zombie, Motorhead, KMFDM, Anthrax, Slayer, and of course Tenacious D, as we wouldn’t expect Jack Black to do a voice over without promoting some of his band’s music. Other voice overs include Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister – lead singer for Motorhead, and Tim Curry – the hotel concierge from Home Alone 2 who “loves you.”
Given a comedic performance by Jack Black, the story, the art, and the music, Brutal Legend offers something for everyone. So if you’re not too busy playing Fallout 3: game of the year edition or Uncharted 2, you may want to battle some demons alongside some headbangers in an effort to save humanity from eternal enslavement.

poor sales might make devs think twice before releasing a new IP in between a bunch of the most recognizable franchises out there. Fallout GOTY, U2, Tekken, R&C, FM3, etc.
October 5th, 2009
It’s a shame. I really enjoyed the demo. I couldn’t help but thinking how dumb it was to release this game with all these other popular games coming out within weeks.
October 5th, 2009
I hear that — one could be tied up for weeks just on Fallout alone; but at least they made it before christmas.
October 5th, 2009
I will give it a shot next year. If have the money and the time I’ll pick it up this year when it gets cheaper

Motor Head opening up for Black Sabbath (Ronnie James Dio) at the Roseland Ballroom was the first concert I went to.
I liked the demo. And it has a decent amount of pre-orders, so I’m sure it will do pretty well.
October 5th, 2009
Van Halen at Nassau Coliseum was my first.
Stone Temple Pilots at the Beach was second, followed shortly by a bunch of Primus concerts.

John the Rapist,
Are you related to John the Baptist in anyway? Anyway, just go to gravatar . com. You can upload a photo their. It might take a few hours before it shows up.

“And my name is John The “Raptist” not John The Rapist. lol”
yo yo yo…HAHAHA
October 5th, 2009
Sony’s first party game dont usually go down in prince until they become *greatest hits*
October 5th, 2009
At least I’m not the only person who read it as Rapist then…
October 6th, 2009
Looks cool, but not for me at this time of year… even if I bought it, I would still only play the Uncharted 2 demo. Pretty much forgot about all of my other games.
October 6th, 2009
My question would be, if you’re new yourself then how did you know Saber was new?..
*scratches chin while opening one eye wider than the other*
October 6th, 2009
I read it as written, but for some reason (lots of bioshock in the past couple weeks) I thought Raptist was a reference to Rapture, hah.
I gotta play less games.

“My question would be, if you’re new yourself then how did you know Saber was new?..”
uhmmmm…weird!
Ivan is that you!?
October 6th, 2009
@Jofa,
Platinum is easy for Bioshock
October 6th, 2009
John The Raptist was The Future of Sega. So I’ve had to delete the account and all comments. I would have actually let him back on the site were it not for the attempted subterfuge.
October 6th, 2009
Hey Dave,
wasnt his IP address blocked anyways, how did you find out it was him if he was using a different IP?
what does subterfuge means?
October 6th, 2009
He kept sneaking out of Dave’s bed at night to post and Dave caught him at it

I have a question about demon souls, and the modern warfare 2 pricing….
Everyone is mad at Actitard right? But yet in canada, at futureshop they’re both the same time $70…
Yes I like to stick up for MW2, even if its supposed to be delayed now for PC.
SW is confused.
October 6th, 2009
so it would be a problem for you to pay $70 for every single game you buy
October 6th, 2009
@SW
That’s not the collectors edition?
I know there’s two pricing structures in the US as well.
October 6th, 2009
I already have my pricing down.
Amazon has $5 off future purchases with Uncharted 2. I’m buying that, and the discount will go to Ratchet and Clank.
Then with MW2 they are offering $10 on future games. I’ll apply that discount to God of War Collection and basically get that for $25.
at which time I can not worry about another purchase for a bit.
October 6th, 2009
’so it would be a problem for you to pay $70 for every single game you buy’
No, I’m just asking, why was everyone so up in arms at Actitard but its ok for a bunch of other games to be $70. Most other games are $60 here.
Ah watever, as long as they have it in stock later today (Demon Souls) I’m buying it regardless.
October 6th, 2009
it looks like the standar price for games in CAN is now $70. just look at the retail price for some games
Dirt2 – $70
Demon’s Souls – $70
Call of Duty World at War – $70
Call of Duty : MW2 – $70
Dark Void – $70
Operation Flashpoint – $70
NBA 2K10 – $70
Brutal Legend – $70
Batman Arkhan Asylum – $70
just to name a few

October 6th, 2009
I have to think $70 is all I’ve ever paid unless the game is quite old.
Ah well shit happens, I’m sure when my dad was younger he could get a bottle of coke, 3 chocolate bars and 2 swedish hookers for a quarter AND still have change in his pocket.
October 6th, 2009
I’m glad we live in the generation of shaving though..;)
October 6th, 2009
Roca, I had to look up “subterfuge” also..
* something intended to misrepresent the true nature of an activity; “he wasn’t sick–it was just a subterfuge”
*Deception (also called beguilement, deceit, bluff, or subterfuge) is the act of convincing another to believe information that is not true
October 7th, 2009
Thanks BJ
I didnt know now ppl can get banned for *Deception*
October 7th, 2009
The future of sega.. lol
October 7th, 2009
Hey Mike thanks for the Code for this demo it was it was cool the way the game is setup. It was all good until I could not figure out how to drop the gate where that dragon beast is. It was late and I was tired when I tried it so I just gave up but I’ll go back to it tonight.
October 7th, 2009
yeah CAD?
That got me too for a bit. Then I thought…”what do I do that basically seems to make things happen?”
Ohhhhh.. Earthquake move..
I was definitely getting tired of listening to that bitch ask me what I was waiting for..
October 7th, 2009
Oh Thanks a lot Phranctoast that will save me the headache. Dame I should have tried that. I kept running around until my eyes started to close. I just couldn’t figure it out. Thanks.
October 7th, 2009
No problem CAD.
I enjoyed the demo as well. Still, I’m waiting on this game for the future.
October 8th, 2009
hah yeah I had the same problem too. It was a pretty good demo, I think I might rent it first before I buy it, too many games to buy in the leadup to Christmas.
October 8th, 2009
Well i m confused between brutal legend & Dragon-age ??
October 8th, 2009
its not like they are coming out at the same time.
Brutal Legend is next Week
Dragon Age is MW2-week
October 8th, 2009
If it’s a money thing I understand. If it’s not I don’t know what to say. The two games are completely different types of games.
October 8th, 2009
its like somebody asked me one day
“which game is better, street fighter (ps2) or Socom (ps2)?”
and he was serious too…but you really can’t compare oranges and apples
October 8th, 2009
@phranc
Obviously its a money thing..
i dont wanna buy a game, that i m not even going to play this year..
Just completed Blue Dragon, On lost odyseey rite now, got ultimate allaince 2 and odst already, planning to get either brutal legend or dragon age, Mw2, ac2, l4d2
October 8th, 2009
if you like multiplayer more got with MW2 and L4D2.
for Single player I believe AC2 will be the best out the bunch.
October 8th, 2009
well looks like brutal legend will have to wait..
ll buy it next year..
BTW i do like multiplayer gaming and single player
October 8th, 2009
actually i have already preordered mw2, ac2, and l4d2..
now i ll getting dragon age
October 8th, 2009
damn…I thought money was the issue lol
MW2, AC2, Dragon Age and L4D2 are all coming out during the first 2 weeks of November.
idk how much game cost over there but here it would have cost $240. might as well add Brutal Lengend into the mix
October is going to be hard for me, I have already bought NGS2, Demon’s Soul, GT PSP, then Uncharted 2 and R+C. during november I will only get one game. it will be either AC2 or MW2. I want to back off abit from multiplayer game. single player experience rules for me!
October 8th, 2009
games costs the same over here, but not the hardware,
xbox arcade is for somewhere arnd 350$,ps3 costs
500$, slim is not out here, yet.. and xbox elite is not officially launched, but a company here imports xbox elite for 750$, i bought mine in 2007, at the time atleast it was a lil cheaper
October 8th, 2009
actually money really is the issue, i have already preordered/paid for all these games, now i have money for just one game, and so i was confused.. but now i have made up my mind for dragon age..
October 8th, 2009
i think u shud go for mw2, coz lately i have realised, that u can get a single player games cheaply afterwards.. there was a sale over here and i got Kameo, Mirrors edge, harry potter ootp, saints row 1, conan, 99nights, perfect dark zero, blue dragon, crackdown, mercenaries 2 and lost odyssey for little under 150$.. Multiplayer games shud be bought day 1 coz usually everyone in ur friends list ll b playing that anyway, single player games remain the same and u can get them cheaply after some time..
October 8th, 2009
I wait and see if there will be something that interest me about MW2, if its the same as MW1 (with customizable kill streak) I wont get. and the end all FPS are the same to me.
I did many FPS during the first years of the PS3 and 360, but now we are seeing great single player games (demon’s souls, Uncharted 2, AC2, GoW Collection, Batman) I think its time for my to give FPS’s a break.
Dont get me wrong I ejoyed MW1, World at War (I sitll play that awesome Zombie mode), KZ2 and BF1943. but I think I have had enough
October 8th, 2009
i can understand, its just i play with my friends a lot, so cant miss any multiplayer games..
October 9th, 2009
oh, im not like that, I have friends that only bought a PS3 for Call of Duty. they dont buy anything else. they just play Call of Duty all year long until the next one comes out.
October 13th, 2009
roca – “I have friends that only bought a PS3 for Call of Duty”
then why are you ps3 fanboys hyping exclusives so much? the multiplats are selling more consoles than the ps3 exclusives apparently…
October 13th, 2009
I have a friend who bought his PS3 for SOCOM. Another who bought a ps3 after his shitbox (his words) broke for the second time and this time was out of warranty. Most of the people I know who are waiting are doing so as they don’t have the money for a HDTV and without one you might as well play xbox and ps2 games anyway.
how does that fit in there kev?
October 14th, 2009
“then why are you ps3 fanboys hyping exclusives so much? the multiplats are selling more consoles than the ps3 exclusives apparently…”
what an morron lol. I wasnt speaking about the fact that multiplatform games sells better than exclusive or not. I was just say there are ppl who buy a console for just one game, I know ppl who only play sports game (which is stupid), other who only play CoD, etc. Im sure they are ppl who bought a 360 just for CoD or Fifa too.
