Gamers love Uncharted 2 Demo – insane total gameplay time
The demo for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves hit the PSN store last week and it seems like everyone loves the game to death. The kind folks at Naughty Dog released some very interesting stats that indicate that not only do PS3 owners have no life but they also love money. Take the jump for the details.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the most highly anticipated titles of this year. Evan Wells the co-President of Naughty Dog posted a quick blurb on the Playstation Blog revealing some interesting stats. Wells points out that Uncharted 2 currently has 17 perfect review scores, and none of the scores are less than 90 on metacritic. He also teases that there are still a few “biggies (scores)†about to hit.
The scores are not that surprising, but the stats he revealed are interesting to say the least.
He reveals these staggering stats for Uncharted 2:
- Total Number of games played – 1,217,424
- Total Number of Kills – 92,110,787
- Total Number of Treasures Captured – 1,860,645
- Total Amount of Money Earned – $38,841,367,350
- Total Time Played – 9,905 days (or 27+ years!)
It seems that the number of hours gamers are playing the demo adds up to 27 plus years! That’s an incredible amount of gameplay time no matter how you dice it up. Gamers have also earned close to $40 billion dollars within the demo. For those who have played the demo will already know that earning cash in Uncharted 2 takes time as the payout is incremental, so the implications are ridiculous.
With only five short days before the game hits the stores gamers should have enough experience to jump right into the multiplayer mode. Could this be the game of the year or will that title go to Modern Warfare 2? Hit our forums below to debate it out. Stay tuned for my review of Uncharted 2 coming soon.

That demo its going to hurt the game sales wise. Too good of a demo with a lot of content, ppl might just settled for that
October 9th, 2009
Wow, I don’t blame them, Uncharted 2 demo is pretty much the only thing I play whenever I get the chance. I’ll try and pick up the full game first day. GOTY for me (although I heard from a few sources that the game has a slightly lack-luster ending. IGN on the other hand says it only gets better and better). Got to lvl 20, still love it.
On another note, I played football in the snow today. Good ol’ Canada.
And my sister rolled her brand-new car. She’s fine, but dang… sort of shakes you up a little when you first hear the news.
October 9th, 2009
Er, Roca, don’t you think they’ll turn the demo off?
MW2 is sure to be GOTY…although we’ve certainly come a long way from some people earlier in the year predicting that Killzone 2 would be GOTY.
October 9th, 2009
lock_down hit it on the head. Come release day, your license for the content gets revoked (as they have already said it will be) and you have to buy to play.
October 9th, 2009
nah roca…it will do just fine if anything spark it i think but who knows
October 9th, 2009
I was expecting Uncharted 2 to tank, although it’s currently sitting at the top of Amazon, for whatever that’s worth.
It’s clear now that Uncharted 2 is the game Sony have chosen to relaunch the PS3 with…I had hoped and believed it would be GT5, but oh well
October 9th, 2009
Lock_down: “Er, Roca, don’t you think they’ll turn the demo off?”
I hope so…..
October 9th, 2009
Yeah it does have an expiration date. Hit triangle on the file and you’ll see.
At any rate, I probably logged on at least 5 hours. I can’t wait for this to finally come out.
October 9th, 2009
Anyone play the Japanese demo for Bayonetta? The voices are in English, with Japanese text.
It feels really, really similar to Devil may Cry, but the mechanics are slightly different. The graphics were nothing special, but the game was pretty fun. I like the way how she gets naked after boss fights and stops for a pose. Good stuff.
October 9th, 2009
I hate DMC or anything like it. it’s too linear and the combat is fun for the first hour or two. Thats just my personal opinion on it, I know ppl who loves the DMCs (or anything that comes from CAPCOM)
October 9th, 2009
Anyone see the 360/PS3 Bayonetta comparison? That’s a wider difference in graphics as I’ve seen with multiplats for many months.
October 9th, 2009
What your demo has an expiration date. What the hell is that. That is just plain stupid.
October 9th, 2009
Bayonetta developers could keep with the PS3 architecture and they handed the game to Sega so they can port the game instead. another lazy devs, reminds of Valve. I wasnt planning on getting the game anyways so I couldnt care less if the game looks horrible or not. I will be play GoW3 and GT5 by that time
October 9th, 2009
sorry I meant to say :
Bayonetta developers could *not* keep *up* with the PS3 architecture
October 9th, 2009
Yeah there was a dude from TGS who saw the difference for Bayonetta and the game looks awesome but he siad the 360 version was better. Oh and Devil May Cry 4 was awesome. I loved every bit of it. If Bayonetta is like that I’m in in a heart beat when that game drops.
October 9th, 2009
27 years of playtime…thats crazy
October 9th, 2009
If you think that’s crazy you should see Halo Stats.
October 9th, 2009
thats crazy for a demo thats only been out a week and some change
October 9th, 2009
LockDown – I just looked it up since you mentioned it. The 360′s color is richer. Asides from that, I think they look identical. I don’t think the 360 version looks any sharper.
I don’t know. Since the screens mostly focus on the backgrounds, it’s hard to say.
kotaku.com/5377764/lets-compare-xbl-and-psn-bayonetta-demo-screens
October 9th, 2009
CAD, they had to put an expiration date on the demo. The demo is pretty close to a full game. It has about 5 maps, 5 game types (2 modes each), and 10 characters.
If you like Devil May Cry, you’ll like Bayonetta.

anybody wants a MAG beta code,
I reserve MAG and I got a code for its beta, but since I got invited to the Beta long time ago I wont be needing the code.
October 9th, 2009
Ya roca I would love the beta I tried to get one but failed
. My PSN is RobertCarr316
October 9th, 2009
I need to get some serious gaming done by the 16th before I buy uncharted I have both new fallout 3 DLCS, ninja gaiden sigma 2 and need for speed shift…..so much to do
October 9th, 2009
RobertCarr316,
cool, i’ll send it to you when I get a chance.
October 9th, 2009
get ready to do some serious downloads for MAG too
October 9th, 2009
I still haven’t played the beta… I kind got demons souls and forgot all about it
October 9th, 2009
Uncharted beta that is… (its not actually a ‘demo’
)

“Could this be the game of the year or will that title go to Modern Warfare 2?”
are you kidding? you can’t be this blind, Mike. Even for a ps3 fanboy, this question is insane.
COD MW2 will crush this. of course, this will allow you ps3 fanboys to claim, “oh…but…but…COD MW 2 came out on two consoles”….
October 9th, 2009
Thanks Roca and Kev relax this will be the GOTY for some people so what if you think MW2 will crush Uncharted everyone has an opinion just relax
October 9th, 2009
Kev,
GOTY has nothing to do with sales. It has to do with quality, improvement, innovation, and so on.
Since COD has basically been the same game since COD 3, I see no reason why COD would be GOTY.
October 9th, 2009
“what’s right isn’t always popular, what’s popular isn’t always right”
…in before your response of “omgz COD pwns!!!”
October 9th, 2009
Kev,
LPB was game of the Year for many website, for its innovative and uniqe style.
CoD had is chance when MW1 came out, MW2 is more of the same.. same Happy with Gears of War, Gears of War 1 was game of the year because it brought something new to the gaming industry. Gears of War 2 was more of the same, and LBP stole GOTY last year.
on for the record, Gears 1 and LBP were both out on only one console. so it does not matter if its multiplatform or not. too bad you wont be here by the time they announced GOTY 2009, you will probably in Arkham Asylum where you belong
October 9th, 2009
barnabe – Since COD has basically been the same game since COD 3, I see no reason why COD would be GOTY.
um…not really. COD 3 was a WWII game, while MW and MW 2 are not.
October 9th, 2009
I’ve been looking for what was GOTY and it is mixed depending on what systme your talking about but there is an overall list and gamespy has it so I drop the list for all to see

“um…not really. COD 3 was a WWII game, while MW and MW 2 are not”
MW1 and WaW felt like the same game to me (just different setting), it has the same perks, same online modes, same party system, same challenges, same ranking system, same way to invite friends, same crap about having players to host rooms, and once they leave the room quicks everybody out.

CAD, do you know every gaming website has its own game of the year.
I say LBP was 2008 GOTY because it got most GOTY awards from more websites than any other game.
Gamespy does not represend the whole gaming community

“We forecast sales of $750 million, up 21% compared to last year’s $618 million,†the analyst said in an industry note today. Pachter also predicted that PS3 beat both Wii and 360 in American in September.
PS3 is moving on UP. hahahah
October 9th, 2009
“We forecast sales of $750 million, up 21% compared to last year’s $618 million”
anybody could guess that with this years game line up.(NFSS, U2, MW2, AC2, L4D2, FM3, etc)

“I say LBP was 2008 GOTY because it got most GOTY awards from more websites than any other game.”
Well Roca your wrong about LBP being on more web sites. Here is a breakdown of many sites. From what I see GTA IV, MGS4, and Fallout 3 got way more mentions then LPB and Fallout 3 is definatel the consensus.

I wonder what Kev’s console of choice is.
“PS3 fanboys this… this game will crush this PS3 game… PS3 fanboys that… that’s right PS3 fanboys…”
I’m guessing all of his posts are like that?
And you’re a little too adamant with your opinion… Uncharted 2 and MW2 come close in quality and popularity, but I think we can all agree that Uncharted 2 looks overall better (graphics and single-player, anyways). They’re both great, and PS3 owners can get both, so what’s your point?
October 9th, 2009
Having a point is irrelevant.
The hate is all that matters.
October 10th, 2009
@ Saber:
I wonder what Kev’s console of choice is.
“PS3 fanboys this… this game will crush this PS3 game… PS3 fanboys that… that’s right PS3 fanboys…â€
Yeah I think EVERY SINGLE ONE of his posts is like that.
Also if you have a PS3 and a 360 then he will call you a liar and say you ain’t got a 360 and call you a ‘PS3 Fanboy’
I pity him…
October 10th, 2009
Roca yeah I was so wrong about the Orange Box but really I should have known it was Bioshock..
October 12th, 2009
oldschool – just shut up already. you’re a proven liar and fanboy. your posts are pointless, without insight, nor any factual information about gaming.
i pity you, too, little guy. I pity anyone who lies to make their toy look better than another’s toy…
October 12th, 2009
Kev: “i pity you, too, little guy. I pity anyone who lies to make their toy look better than another’s toy…”
sounds like you are describing yourself there Kev
October 12th, 2009
roca – i haven’t lied yet, little man…
that’s your routine….
October 12th, 2009
“i haven’t lied yet, little man”
thats one more lie we can add up to the grand total of your unbreakable record..how does it feel to be leading in the Lies Category?
October 12th, 2009
Whoa, be careful Kev.
When Terry Silver called Mr. Miyagi ‘little man’, well, we all know how that ended…
October 13th, 2009
Kev pity me all you want but your just wasting your time.
Your constantly talking crap on every post and from an earlier post saying a gameplay difference of COD is the fact COD3 was WW2 and MW ain’t, well that’s just a different setting, gameplay remains the near enough same.
Which is a good anyway so why try so hard to say its different?
October 13th, 2009
LOL leave it to CAD to compare a game that has been out for years to a demo that has been out a week.
If they stop the demo before I get a chance to try it I won’t be buying it.
What about the people who buy their PS3’s after the games comes out?
Everyone should be able to try before you buy.
October 13th, 2009
that was not a demo ncaissie…they had almost the whole multiplayer mode of Uncharted 2.
Bad newss: demo already expired
October 13th, 2009
“LOL leave it to CAD to compare a game that has been out for years to a demo that has been out a week.”
LMAO… sometimes shits like this make my day go faster while at work
October 13th, 2009
“oldschool – just shut up already. you’re a proven liar and fanboy. your posts are pointless, without insight, nor any factual information about gaming.”
Hey Pot…..meet Kettle.
October 13th, 2009
phranc – actually, i’ve used nothing but data and facts about the games i talk about.. meanwhile you ps3 fanboys use nothing but lies…
then again, when the facts are presented, lies are all you clowns have left…
October 13th, 2009
roca – which lie?
so far yours include:
1. GT5 wil have “perfect damage”… lie.
2. GT5 is more “realistic” with less physics parameters….lie.
3. Forza 3 has the same gameplay as NFS…lie
those are just off the top of my head…
so..what did i lie about?
October 13th, 2009
1. when did I say GT5 will have perfect damage? there you go again lying…that was PD’s Kaz who said not me.
2. Played GT5p and Played Forza 3 demo…I couldnt care less about physics parameters GT5p is more realistic. period.
3. yes it does.
come back to me when you are legal to drive a real car Kev (8 years from now)
October 13th, 2009
Roca – you said you’d expect nothign less in kaz’s claim to having “perfect damage”…
more physics parameters = greater realism. this is a fact that is known to anyone but GT fanboys, apparently…
you just admitted that none of the games you mentioned had the tire physics of Forza 3 now you claim NFS has the same gameplay? not wtih the arcade physics it doesn’t…
you really need to learn to stop lying….
October 13th, 2009
anyway… back to work…
later losers.. and remember; keep lying..sony loves you…
October 13th, 2009
“you just admitted that none of the games you mentioned had the tire physics of Forza 3″
did know that Heavenly Sword had a Hair Engine just for the Main Characters hair…now does that mean her was is the best hair in video game history? of course not
October 13th, 2009
NFS is said to have a physics engine that produces a higher frequency of calculations at any given time than Forza 3.
With that said, IGN still felt that the cars in Forza 2 and GT5P felt more realistic.
It may not be as simple as bigger numbers = better experience.
October 14th, 2009
roca – can i get a link to the separate hair physics engine in Heavenly sword?
thanks.
phranc – who said this? and did the engine get designed by actual automotive engineers as seen in Forza games? nope….
can you explain the “higher frequency of calculations”, please…thanks.
i do agree with experience part. automotive engineers have waaaaay more experience with reproducing realistic physics from math as this is what they do for a living, day in and day out… kaz does not…
October 14th, 2009
Kev “and did the engine get designed by actual automotive engineers as seen in Forza games?”
What in the hell does automotive engineers know about programming games? Designing a game and programming it to make it happen is NOT the same thing. Learn something about programming would yeah?
And where is the proof of these automotive engineers designing the engines?
You are such a tool it isn’t even funny anymore. At lease Ivans spews were funny. You’re just pathetic.
October 15th, 2009
automotive engineers do not build game engines..nor do they know anything about making/programing games
October 15th, 2009
“phranc – who said this? and did the engine get designed by actual automotive engineers as seen in Forza games? nope….
can you explain the “higher frequency of calculationsâ€, please…thanks. ”
There was an interview with the Need for Speed Shift producer and he said the NFS physics engine was running at 400 Hz as opposed to the Forza 3 engine which is running at 360Hz. Whether or not the engine was designed by automotive engineer, it doesn’t appear to say and the full interview is blocked at work.
More calculations at any given second would be higher frequency. Lets say the car travels 10ft. The NFS engine would have calculated its given physics over the same distance 4 times instead of 3 (not a true example).
I’m also interested in that number you quote all the time. (4,000 physics calculations). Can we divide that number…by lets say 4, and realistically say they are only 1,000 unique physics characteristics which is applied 4 times to the different tires. Or is it 16,000 physics characteristics. It seems to me that got you with the bigger is better number game. If it was 4k per tire They’d probably say 16k.
“SHIFT is built on the most advanced physics engine we’ve made, and is by far the most advanced and realistic physics engine of any of the mainstream racing games. We’re talking about an engine that can run unlimited threads, detailed physics parameters running at around 400 Hz on consoles. Things like tire deformation based on g-forces, tire pressures, rubber thickness, which only the most diehard sim fans will notice, but we know it’s there.
We have a full realism hardcore mode called Pro that you can choose to race in from the start that will feel natural and comfortable as well as raising the bar for handling compared to anything out there (or due out soon) for all of our hardcore race sim fans.—
October 15th, 2009
I missed this demo. I went to try it last night and it expired.
Guess it’s one less game for me to buy. By the time it hits $15 (which is the most I will pay for a game I can’t try first) it will be too late for online fun.
October 15th, 2009
just try the demo of the first one…and imagine that demo but 10 times better with buddy AI, Snow, better graphics, and Online play
October 15th, 2009
Demo was MP only. The SP alone is more than worth full price.
October 15th, 2009
‘later losers.. ‘
Now THAT is a classy exit.
January 25th, 2010
i think Roca was right. the demo was just to good!
