Mass Effect 2 for PS3 may be a reality
One of the longest enduring rumors in the video game industry is around the Mass Effect franchise coming over to the PS3. Bioware, the studio behind the brilliant game, has repeatedly denied such rumors for some time. However, some recent developments may hint at a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2. Yesterday a major Australian video game retail chain, GAME put up a listing for Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. When it was first reported by Just Push Start, I brushed it off as an accidental listing by the retail chain. However, today RPG Site reported that EA Russia put up the same listing for the PS3 on its official page.
Could it be just a coincidence that EA, the publisher and IP owner of Mass Effect could have made the same mistake merely hours from GAME? I do admit that this seems highly unlikely that this is a coincidence, but stranger things have happened in the past. With EA owning the Mass Effect IP and Bioware studio, I do think that the franchise will come over to the PS3 one day but I am not sure if that day is upon us.
The first Mass Effect was under contract with Microsoft as an exclusive (timed?) for the Xbox 360. However, there is no clarification whether this contract was just for the first game or extended out to the second game. It would all depend on when Bioware started seriously looking at future funding options for the second installment in the series.
Also, since Bioware is now a first party EA owned internal studio, the execs at the company will want to extend one of its biggest franchises out to other platforms regardless of what Microsoft may want. if They buy EA, Sony will have to build up a bigger first party world wide studio to compete with every single EA (Madden) or I Will hear the guillotine sound when M$ drops it on Sony

If MS gets a hold of EA… yeh, what Roca said. It would directly affect me though, I have no interest in getting ripped off each year buying sports games. All sports games seem boring and repetitive to me (I actually prefer golf games ’cause it is less repetitive, but it gets boring as hell). But it would hurt Sony, and perhaps the content that goes in my machine.

Funny, I did a Google search on ‘who owns mass effect ip’ and one of the first links was from an interview Joystiq had with Matt Atwood who said that the exclusivity for Mass Effect 2 exists for 360 and PC, but there is no further exclusivity after that.

OK, I beat the phalanx yesterday. I know the joy of recouping lost souls, and felt my face flush red after loosing over 4,000+ souls. I took a long deep breath, kept playing and made it all the way through.
My one and only complaint: the menu/inventory system is really over complicated. It’s like trying to read the schematic to a space ship. I had to sit there with the manual and study it, and I’m still not 100% I understand it all. The symbols make it hard.
Asides from that, it’s pretty amazing.

Does the red dragon regenerate? Or is he like a boss and you only have to kill him once?

@Barnabe – I agree about the symbols, they suck. What was wrong with ‘str’, ‘dex’, etc…
The dragon doesn’t regen, & once you kill him, he’s gone and you now have a ‘shortcut’ because he doesn’t burn the path up on the way to the phalanx & beyond.
So, I started again as a Magician and I’m loving it so far (scimitar for the win!)… I found out that I can farm the ‘red eye’ guy in the castle for 2070 souls a pop
, takes about 5 mins to run up there and get him and get out…
Just equip the thiefs ring on and blast him with a fireball, run backwards 15 feet and he doesn’t see you… Blast away again, rinse repeat about 3-4 fireballs – takes about 30 seconds to kill him at soul level 8. I think this would probably work with arrows/bolts too but with more shots needed… But mana is ‘free’ do yay \o/

Thanks. I have about 150 arrows, but I’ll try to double that before I actually try to kill him.
Magician does sound like a good choice. I ventured into Stonefang Tunnel to check it out, but I think I’ll need a ranged spell to deal with the fat officials first. I’ll probably pick up one after the tower night.

okokokok, but just one last question…
Is it ok to use the Old Soldier`s Soul, etc – to get souls? Just the souls you get from bosses are important to save for creating items, right?

afaik you just use the ‘regular’ souls and just keep the names ones like ‘iron soul’ or watever from bosses.

That would have been interesting indeed CAD. They would have loved to have received royalties from selling games on the PS3. Either that or they could have shut PS3 out of any further iterations of their games, but that wouldn’t make much business sense.

I have a PSP Go and I love it. Unlike the 360 though it doest not come with RRoD built-in, but unlike the 360 it comes with built-in Wifi, built-in blue tooth and the PSP is selling better since the GO came out.

Oh I don’t believe that if that was to ever happen that Microsoft would make the games exclusive to the 360. I think they would do it but I think that they will wait until the next generation. Because at that point if you want to paly FIFA or Madden or Tiger Woods or Dead Space or whatever is EA that you would have to get their system to play those games. But it won’t happen so oh well.

yeah.. it didn’t make that much sense to me. EA would stand to lose a lot of money not having it’s games on all platforms. Especially with MS combining or letting go a lot of their 1st Party staff, as a great deal is coming form the 3rd parties.
Out of the games you listed there CAD, the loss of a Dead Space sequel hurt the most.

SO……this Mass Effect story.
I think they will release both of them on the PS3 6 months after ME2 comes out on the 360. Similar to the GTA franchise in the ps2 days.

I’m very sorry you fail to meet the prerequisite.
All in all, you can’t realistically compare the two, as Some have different sites that are platform exclusive reviewing the games. Official Playstation Magazine has been notorious for giving PS3 games lower scores than even IGN does. Theres even other instances where the game is noted that it’s better on the PS3 than the 360, but the score won’t reflect that as the game came out later on the PS3 (oblivion and Bioshock)

I try and stay clear from comparing last gen vs this gen.
On a side note. The same exact thing can be said about NG2 and NGS2. All in respects NGS2 is a better game. Added a Co op mode and new levels and a new character, but it scores lower.

Well anyone who looked at Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden Sigma will kow that the graphics look better on a PS3 compared to the original Xbox. Duuhhh! But it is the exact same game with more polished and better camera control but if you pay attention there is more detail in NGB then NGS because they took out certain elements in Sigma which is probably why it achieved 1080P. For example, in the first act there is suppose to be a river flowing but in Sigma the river is missing.
