Wii Fit climbing bestselling games of decade chart – and then there’s Cyberbike
The Nintendo Wii is many different things to different people. For some, it is the gateway to this hobby, the epitome of casual gaming. To others, it is a useless machine that should have been killed at birth. But love it or hate it, the Wii has been a phenomenon, (d)evolving gaming forever. How else do you explain the bicycle peripheral that’s heading our way?
The Wii has changed gaming in some subtle and some not so subtle ways. Without it, would we be heading for a motion-sensing war between the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010? Would gaming have become as mainstream as it now clearly is, with everyone, from the President of the USA to old people in homes, happy to indulge in a little video gaming in their spare time?
As if to prove how successful the Wii has been, three of the top five bestselling games of this decade are exclusive to the console. Top of the pile is Wii Play thanks to it coming with a free Wiimote, making it an obvious purchase for any Wii owners with at least one friend. It’s actually trumped by Wii Sports, the bestselling game of all time, but it doesn’t count due to coming free with every Wii bought.
Top 5 Bestselling Games 2000 – 2009
Wii Play – 11.1 Million
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – 8.25 Million
Wii Fit – 7.9 Million
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – 6.9 Million
Mario Kart Wii – 6.7 Million
The interesting thing is that Wii Fit looks set to take the number two spot from GTA: San Andreas in the next month or two. That’s interesting because not only is Wii Fit more a lifestyle device than a game, it’s also an expensive purchase thanks to the balance board peripheral. But that hefty price point hasn’t stopped millions of overweight housewives from buying it. Which brings us neatly on to…
Introducing Cyberbike
…the Wii Cyberbike. And it’s a monster of a peripheral. BigBen Interactive has announced the release (at least in Europe) of the Wii Cyberbike and its accompanying game, Cycling Sports. As the name suggests, the Cyberbike is an exercise bike which you hook up to the Wii and use to, well, cycle your way through 18 poorly-realized levels.
I’ve already opined my distaste for the overflow of Wii peripherals and I’m afraid this one fits that bill to the nth degree. An ordinary exercise bike is bad enough but this is worse. It looks ugly, it’s cumbersome, and the game looks terrible. The only upside is that it’s compatible with Mario Kart Wii. Which means that title will probably sell well upon its release and make it a Wii top three in the noughties. Oh. Dear. God.

Are these US only sales?
Mario Kart past San Andreas in worldwide sales ages ago.

Goes to show that people like Dave Parrack are (thank god) in the minority. So ok this is a heavily biased fanboy site, but I think it proves that there is a bigger world out there than just a new FPS every week.
I actually like the idea of the bike better than the fit board. One thing I hate about being at the gym is that you are sitting there on a bike for half an hour with just a clock counting down. Not, with any luck, I can race my best time or a friend. Make exercise a bit more interesting. But please remember people, this is not targeted at the people playing Killjoyzone 2.
But lets he honest, Wii Fit is a load of crap. 7.9m people know that. Thats nearly as many people that think Grand Theft Auto is Crap!

Wii fit like the wii in general is a gimmick. Call it what you want to Andrew DS but it is and you know it is.
Almost everyone I know with a wii I would consider a non gamer. By non gamer I mean, someone who has never owned a video game console.
Geeze…my mother and sister have the wii and wii fit. They used it for a week and thats it. The closest to playing games for them is Bejeweled on the PC. My girlfriend has it…. She’s still doing here cardio in other ways.
Whenever I hear of someone talking about it, I can’t help but roll my eyes.

to bad they can’t come up with a new type of Mike Tyson punch-out and hand out boxing gloves so the witards can beat the hell out of each other….

If there is a chance that Nintendo raises the MILFs demographics, who are we to complain?
My girlfriend is into Wii Fit. The thing is by no means for people who look for improve their performance from mid to high levels; it´s just not consecutive enough… but hey! as long as she feels more into gaming works for me.
Hi everyone! I haven´t been posting lately, lots of work pending, which is a blessing!

haha do you guys make videos?? lol im juss playin
October 15th, 2009
Wow, just found the article on IGN announcing the 250GB PS3… Roca beat me to it… it’s a shame that it doesn’t come with Uncharted 2
(unless you are Australian) but it is a good enough answer to the 360 bundle. Cheaper, but it lacks the game (and the controller, I believe?).
October 16th, 2009
Really good though.. but i feel for people who just got ps3 slim 120 gb..
October 16th, 2009
really good deal though*
October 16th, 2009
Good thing I am within the 30 days return policy..
one thing I’m going to have to give up is my Demon’s Soul save data (those mofos made it copy-righted)
October 16th, 2009
Capcom games tend to have locked save files also. They will copy if you backup your harddrive. You just can’t manually copy them.
October 16th, 2009
My PS3 savedata means the world to me i rather loves my PS3 then my hard drive. Also i hate locked savedata. I wiped out my entire Xbox 360 hard drive all my savedata is gone idiot me LoL.
October 16th, 2009
°V|-_-|V° Oh well, simple Smileys for me then.

“one thing I’m going to have to give up is my Demon’s Soul save data (those mofos made it copy-righted)”
I guess this is where the 360′s detachable drive shines. You can buy the new system get the data transfer cable and return the other systme back to the store or get a memory card and transfer the data.
I guess you can always buy another drive and swap it out.
October 16th, 2009
I rather not LoL. I might need a Memory Unit since i keep deleting my HDD completely. I love my GTA IV, Gears of War and SEGA Superstar Tennis and Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I regret wiping my HDD clean.

No tool available to dump ps3 saves? Sucky.
October 17th, 2009
PS3 still the best.
October 17th, 2009
you can still transfer save files via USB drive. it is just that “some” companies make their game save files copy-righted..
there are a few copy-righted games…KZ2, Rockband, very Capcom game (I hate those mofos), and now Demon’s Souls
October 19th, 2009
regardless of all of this you can back the file ups with the backup option. You just can’t manually save them.
October 19th, 2009
the backup option is a waste of time….
you can only restore the backup file on the same system….which makes the backup option useless (unless your upgrading the HDD).
