250GB PS3 Slim pricing odd and Major Nelson picks up Uncharted 2
Recently, Sony announced it will be going with a two sku approach for the PS3 again. The new PS3 will come with a 250GB hard drive standard and will cost $350. The fact that this new model is priced only $50 more than the existing sku is puzzling.
I really do understand the desire for companies to have multiple skus out there. Microsoft currently has three skus in production and Sony used to have two skus. Many thought that Sony would be going single sku after the launch of the PS3 Slim. However, it seems like Sony is back to its dual sku approach.
Having multiple skus does offer consumer more options to go with, which is always a good thing. However, Sony’s new 250GB PS3 sku pricing is a bit strange as its only $50 more than the 120GB PS3 model. The fact that you can get 100GB more for only $50 sounds great, but I feel that consumers will have a tougher time deciding between the two models.
In other gaming news Major Nelson, Director of Programming for Xbox Live recently tweeted that he will be going to pick up Uncharted 2: Among Thieves this week.
He states:
I’ll have to pick up UnCharted 2 this week. It’s being very well received. Congrats to @Naughty Dog on a job well done!
It is a bit surprising to see a Microsoft employee giving props to a competitor’s product (unlike Turn10’s Dan Greenwalt), although Naughty Dog did give props to Bungie, a former Microsoft studio, for sharing ideas in the rolling credits of Uncharted 2. Its good to see developers giving props where its deserved regardless of the company or affiliation. One thing is for sure, Uncharted 2 is well deserving of all the acclaim its been getting. Congratulations to Naughty Dog indeed.

Yeah the 250GB PS3 sounds awesome too bad is slim but what ever. If it comes bundle with a game it will be more awesome too. You can buy 500GB very cheap for PS3. The PS3 slim is growing on me i might get one but i also want the new 250GB Xbox 360 a little bit more. Oh and yeah like i posted before Major Nelson has become a PlayStation fan by buying UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves a great game. We all know every rival owns all consoles. I like how Naughty Dog gave credits to Bungie and the guys who created Call Of Duty hopefully one day they will too do the same if Naughty Dog helped them some how. Bungie didn’t really help, Naughty Dog was i guess inspired with something they did so they included that on their games that’s how i think Bungie helped. There’s a lot of changes going on lately all good, like me actually enjoying my Xbox 360 and Microsoft enjoying PS3 some how.

Milking the uninformed out of money, since I doubt most people even know how to approach changing a hard-drive out of the PS3.
It will have a bigger number of GBs, so uninformed people will assume that it means it’s better and worth the extra green.

They are price-warring with the only other 250GB sku from the competition out so far for the holidays (at least in the states), the limited ed. MW 360 @ $399. MW360 does come with the game, 2 wireless controllers, headset, component cable, custom case, etc., but PS3 still has free online access, blu-ray, wi-fi capable, etc… for $50 less.
Two top of the line consoles, one of which is geared around a war game, the other is already being advertised with games like Uncharted 2 (“movie”/couple commercial). Though this game will probably not come with the console, it can be picked up for around the $50 price difference.
The $50 difference between the two PS3 skus is reasonable considering Microsoft charges $135 for a proprietary 120GB and commercial terabytes go for less than $100. As far as having a “tougher time deciding between the two (PS3) models”… I think that’s the idea.

Yeah, the new model is pretty nice and well priced. Swapping out the PS3 hard drive was one of the easiest things I’ve ever done. I out in 500 gigs for under $100. I think the SATA’s have come down in price since then also.

Oh, and I have Uncharted 2 sitting on my shelf unopened. I figure I should wait to play it. I don’t want to loose my momentum in Demon’s Souls. 4 down and many, many more to go.
Carl, SW, Jofa, Roca – are you guys worrying about the world tendencies? Seems pretty insane to me. Every time you beat a boss it shifts one way, but when you die, it shifts the other way. Is it just me, or is it near impossible to get it to one extreme?

Barnabe – not yet… I was pretty much following the perfect walkthrough in the back of the guide until Uncharted 2 came along… I forced myself to start playing it as it is a much quicker playthrough… I should be able to finish it up this weekend.

No I’m downloading Borderlands now i saw it looks pretty cool. I also got Resident Evil and Street Fighter IV and many more currently playing Xbox 360 my PS3 is having major issues since UNCHARTED 2 demo. I can buy UNCHARTED 2 maybe 2morrow.

Man… I just finished Uncharted 2 on hard. Incredible game, by far the best single-player campaign I’ve ever played, nothing matches up. Looks fantastic on the 58″ plasma (Panasonic Vierra FTW). Just need to beat it on Crushing and claim my second platinum. I don’t know why some people were complaining about the end, I was fascinated at the last few hours.
It sure felt like a lot longer than 10 hours. A lot fuller than any other campaign I think, no time-fillers, and they didn’t go insane with the cutscene length *coughMGS4coughcoughhackblahh*. GOTY? For me it is.

The ending was fine… rather more meaningful than the majority I have seen. Still have to play multiplayer, but the game itself was great, if fast. It’s like a popcorn movie compared to Demon’s Souls though.

I just noticed that Uncharted 2 probably has the best lip-syncing and facial animations I’ve seen. I never played MGS4 in a while, but how the characters are brought to life seems on par.
And yes chubs… it is indeed…
One thing to note is that it probably won’t stand the test of time, since it didn’t revolutionize much like SM64, MGS, OoT, and a few others. But it is definitely the best of the best. I think that my standards for a video game has gone over the roof. Good job Naughty Dog… I wish you great sales…

I destroyed Flamlurker last night.
Roca, the same thing happened to me. I saved him, he thanked me and said “I must leave. I have something I have to do”.
I think he ended up getting himself killed at some point. I have the key that he was holding, so I must have gotten lucky and searched his body after he died.

after you saved him…if you go back to 1-1 (before going to 1-2)he still going to be wondering around the lower area and all the other foes respawn as soon as you enter 1-1 again….I didnt know that.
is the key is around 1-1 somewhere? or doest it disappear if I went back to the Nexus?

I imagine I wont be able to use some of the purchased perks in crushing difficulty. Infinite ammo and the sniper rifle to build up another 50 or so head shots to have 250 medal…lol
This game really is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Game of the Year award isn’t good enough. There needs to be a Game of the Decade award.
Good luck to MW2 and all, but I don’t believe it will give me that “Best game ever” feeling that Uncharted 2 does.

I’m still waiting to play Uncharted 2. I did open it and sniffed the packaging. It smelled really good.
I want to wait because I know I’ll be sucked in once I start to play it.
Roca – I would have to guess that if you went back to the Nexus it’s gone. I had no idea that he even got killed. I just got lucky and happened to search his corpse after he died.
If you don’t have the key, you can’t fight Old King Doran and get the weapon, amour, and trophy. It’s not the end of the world. Depending on how many hours you already put in, I wouldn’t restart the game. It won’t hold you back that much at all.
Also there is a cheap way to beat him if you really want the trophy. You pretty much just need the thief’s ring.

I had to restart my game again.
I was in Body form and I was getting beat down by Miralda…so a ran away from her and then I hit “load” on the menu screen because I didnt want to die and become a soul. but when I went back to fight her she was gone….nowhere to be seen in the game

A lot of people seem to adore Demon’s Souls it looks so boring to me the only fun RPG Square-Enix and some SCE games.I rather be playing UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves. Demon’s Souls is good is just not my type.

With Ostrava, as soon as you save him and talk to him, evac out of the zone to set it in stone. he will go to next locale where he will need to be saved again. This avoids the Ostrava bug.
But if you already got the key, the only thing he gives you of value is a Pure Clearstone in 1-3, not sure on their rarity, so if you are chasing the weapons trophies, this might be important.
Crystal Geckos are best killed with the bow, imo. They are easily spooked by presence, but not distracted by sounds. You can make bad guys turn around and walk in different directions with sounds (like demon prank, or even bolts/arrows hitting the environment) but crystal geckos don’t do that. Long range with bows, they will often return to their spawn spot if you lose your bead on them, but since they flip on their back from each landed attack, you have time to follow up before they get a chance to run. In NG+ it takes anywhere from 3-7 bow shots to kill one, but generally, you can fire all those arrows in a row without moving and get the kill, they move a little bit now and then, and sometimes require slight adjustment.

First off, WT effects the strength and Souls gained from the creatures. Pure Black WT (PBWT) make for the hardest enemies, but the highest soul reward. Inversely, Pure White WT (PWWT)make for the easiest enemies with the lowest possible soul reward. In my experience, PBWT gives about 60% more xp than PWWT.
Both WT states open different options. You need PBWT to fight the named Black Phantoms and get their specific loot (one per world). You need PWWT to open some paths (like the dragon bone smasher in 2-4, or key to Rydell in 3-2) and again, is essential for being a trophy chaser.

I should also add, White tendency is the default path, as completely any Archstone producing boss, or completing a quest (like the sparkly bird trades in 4-1) in body form shift tendency to the white. Doing the same in soulform has no effect on WT at all. BUT, dieing in body form causes a smaller shift towards black in the world that you died.
