Miyamoto talks Wii 2 – more of the same
Despite the Wii doing phenomenally well – and let’s face it, everyone was surprised at quite how well it sold – there have been rumors and speculation surrounding its replacement for a couple of years. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Nintendo classics such as Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong, has now had his say on the matter.
Popular Mechanics asked Miyamoto whether a motion sensing controller would be a part of future Nintendo hardware, and he responded by saying:
With both the Wii remote itself and Wii MotionPlus, what we’ve been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don’t have any concrete plans for what we’ll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.
In essence, that would mean the Wii 2 being more of the same only with a redesigned controller. If it were indeed more cost-efficient then that could mean Nintendo being able to sell the consoles for less than the Wii launched at, which would likely guarantee another storming start for the hardware.
Miyamoto doesn’t mention graphics in his answer, however, which means this isn’t necessarily going to be the Wii HD that was at once time thought to be definitely on its way. And, of course, there was no mention of a time line, even though if anyone knows what Nintendo has up its sleeve it’s surely their chief games designer.

Nintendo sort of lost my respect bit-by-bit. N64 is IMO one of the greatest consoles of all time (I still love Paper Mario, Banjo, Rayman 2, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and a few classics like that). Gamecube didn’t have anything for me. And the current Wii is just atrocious compared to the other systems (and I own a Wii). The Wii 2 needs power, better controls, and it needs to revive some of the old classics (Rare was a better developer for the N64 than Nintendo itself).
Just played some tackle football today. Sore. Pulled the back of both of my legs. Hungry.

It’s kind of amusing watching the PS3 fanclub complain about the Wii.
The thing is, it’s fun.
It may not be so ’serious’ or pompously up it’s own a$$ that you need to read & learn a 3″ thick manual to play its games but for sheer pick up and play fun between family & friends (most of whom are likely to be non (serious) gamers it is hard to beat.
Instead of the usual predictable digs and sneers some people might just tune into the fact that the success of the Wii has probably saved significant chunks of the gaming industry from going under (especially in this recession) and it has turned on a hell of a lot of people to gaming.
It might be a different branch of gaming that’s opened up but anything that widens the appeal and customer base has got to be a good thing…..right?
(or are the ’serious’ and ‘hard-core’ so ridiculously blinkered that anything beyond a minute cottage industry catering for ’serious’ gamers need only is considered acceptable & worthy enough?)

So they knock Ninty for trying something different. Lets be honest, if they were going to take on sony and MS at their own game they would probably have gone the way of Sega by now and be a dev only company.
Also WHY do the same as them. If they want to do more of the same then let them get on with it. Like Happy said, Ninty have opened up the gaming world to the masses and arguably save several software houses from going under.
What the “hardcore” gamers don’t like is the fact that they are now the minority gaming group.
I hope the Wii 2 is more of the same. Why not eh? If sony and MS are following Nintendo in the motion control market why move out of something you have pioneered. But knowing Nintendo, they will go off on a tangent again and bring something new to our lives thats fun and interesting.
So people want better graphics. Admittedly I would like that too. But I really am not sure that going HD is the ONLY answer. Devs need to put more effort into making games look better than they do. Look at Gran Tourismo on the original playstation! It looks great. Are they saying the Wii couldn’t do a racing game with graphics as good as or even better than that. Most TV is still in low def (?) but if a game looked as real as that…
Oh and one last thing Ivan. The word “Ultimate” is often used out of context. “Ultimate” doesn’t mean “best”. It actually means last. As in “ultimatum” meaning final choice and “penultimate” meaning last but one etc… So heres hoping that the ps3 IS the ultimate console from sony!

It’s a shame that Mature titles have no place on the wii.
The conduit, Dead Space Extraction, Madworld have all sold very poorly.
A wiiHD would be good. All games should be in HD. They can keep the cheesy textures, just bump up the resolution. Look at Tekken 5 DR on the PSN for an awesome example of a PSP game getting the HD treatment and looking better then some PS3 games due to being so unbelievably crisp.

I think that Nintendo works like this:
NES (new concept)
SNES (natural progression from NES )
N64 (new concept)
GC (natural progression from N64)
Wii (new concept)
One of Nintendo´s main philosophies is “Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology” from Gumpei Yokoi. If done right, it can have great results (GB, GBA, NES, SNES, N64, DS, Wii). If done wrong or taken too far is disastrous (Virtual Boy).
I am happy that Nintendo is doing fine, but also that there is so much competition with Sony and Microsoft. The former usually tries to innovate and the latters push the technologies with utmost reverence. In my oponion, conflict is life and stagnation is the real enemy.
I hope that a WiiHD is still far, XD my 32″ screen keeps working fine.

Name brand stand-alone Blu-ray devices are now discounting here at around £100 – £140 (and occasionally we get a no-name sub £80 deal from someone, I did link in a previous post about a no-name sub £50 deal that happened recently).
The price of the decks is not really the issue anymore.
Poor market penetration (not helped by costly new release movies are) the problem

Wii Vitality sensor is essentially a blood pressure reader… sounds exhilarating. That should be as much fun as a doctors visit.
Nintendo has lost it’s way a long time ago, and they only continue to slip. Wii Fit and Wii Vitality aren’t games, they are health products.

Don’t know about that Ivan lad, I got the 360 for some of their exclusives like: GOW, Halo, Alan Wake, Conviction and their GTA DLCs.

It’s true that wired connection beats wi-fi but when it comes to newer wireless such as from G to N, PS3 owner still has the option to purchase an adaptor to upgrade the wireless. 25 Mbps (G) vs 100 Mbps (N). I am sticking with wired.
As for the blu-ray.. I’d imagine there’s no way to put all game content into the hard drive and that means movie watching hours plus gaming hours means the drives will wear down quicker. I’ll choose to buy stand alone blu ray on top of PS3.

Anyone with a router between their PS3 and the internet is NAT2, hard or wireless alike. NAT1 can only be achieved with a direct connection to the internet.

What would I want one for?
I already have a far superior high definion (including Blu-ray) stand-alone than any add-on or game console could offer.
I also have a PC and an HTPC both with more than sufficient spec and storage (now up to 3.5tb) to play any retail high definition movie (nevermind the less demanding reencodes).

I don’t what you meant but MGS2 and GTA 1 2 & 3 were first exclusive to PlayStation 2 for a very long ass time until Microsoft decided it needed to buy some games LoL how sad buying rights to get games because developers didn’t give a shit about them. Same thing now they buy timed exclsuives and DLC. Another thing that i found weird is that Xbox 1 is ten times more reliable then the Xbox 360. Also the little menu it had was better then the new Gay XP and the Dashboard. It was a little similar to PS3 not bloated with crap.
Bioshock new features are awesome i got a couple PSN buddies who got the Platinum already.

Rockstar Games decided to ported to the PSP because it did horrible in sales. They thought they were going to make money making this horrible GTA game what a shame. I would never bother with it i hate the look DS game make me sick all garbage.
I’m playing MotorStorm: Artic Edge for my God of War slim PSP I’m hooked is fucking awesome i love this damn game all day playing this shit nonstop if you own a PSP you gotta buy this game is really awesome. Everything was done perfectly I’m so happy i got this game. Now i need MotorStorm for PSP since I’m bad gamer but this game is simple and hardcore somewhat. PS3 is hardly the ‘best’ Blu-ray player nevermind HD player.
The PS3 is not multi-region for DVD & region-free Blu-ray movies for a start.
It is also pretty noisey once the fans start up compared to a proper stand-alone.
Only the latest slim version can bitstream properly (and setting that up is awkward).
Mine plays all Blu-ray regions and all those lovely inexpensive HD DVDs from around the globe and all regions of DVD.
It also bitstreams HD audio properly.
It is (always) silent.
Even though I imported it from the USA it was also cheaper than the then PS3 and only now has the slim matched it for cost.
So yeah, I’m absolutely sure.
My gaming needs are covered by the Xbox and my a/v needs by a proper multi-format HD player with a nice HTPC as my encode (X264 etc) .mkv movie player.
I’m nicely sorted thanks.

Conversely, having spent good money on maintaining my gaming PC, other than a couple titles (which may yet sway me to obtain a 360), I get the entire spectrum of games between PC and PS3.
If I didn’t have a gaming PC, I probably could have saved some cash getting a 360, but I have been building them for 10 years. I am in as much a minority of gamers as a PC enthusiast, as you are as an AV enthusiast, HH. We shouldn’t hold up our personal experiences as proof of anything.
Gamer demographics are approximately 1673% more diverse than they were 10 years ago, lol. We are all in the minority of gamers, no matter how we define ourselves, unless a Wii and 6 year old desktop are our only gaming devices.

I admit, I only got the reader because a good friend replaced his with a burner, and didn’t need it for direct copying (his burner is for back up only, is a 3D modeler for a location ad firm) and I wouldn’t have spent money on it yet.
I am waiting for $150 writer and $1/disc media before I jump in. I might be waiting a long time, even as the writer might become affordable, discs are ridiculous.

Yeah I almost jumped on a ROM drive (the LG dual format BD/HD DVD one) but I ended up being unable to see the point, I’ve no real need it would have just been want at the time.
Besides ripping Blu-rays and playing them on a stand-alone what’s the point of a Blu-ray burner?
Hard drives have them comprehensively beaten for size, cost & data transfer speeds.
(You want to watch out for that Jesus one, I’ve heard he’s claimed to be behind many many dodgy things!

Now ur twisting it again.
Approving does not mean its not it was their decision. So sony can approve all the games, even vampire rain nade its way to the ps3. The did sell well on the DS and R* decided to port it over to the psp.
Its just like its ubisoft decision to not make Convision for the PS3. Every company has an approval process this is not something new carlb. the approval process doesn’t fall under if sony needs the game or not. Most recent case Trine, the didnt pass the process but devs worked around the it it finally made its way the psn after multiple delays. They could have made the decision to give up and not por the game.
Bottom line is:
Devs/publisher choose the console they are going make the game on (unless there is money involved )
Console makers approve that game runs properly or not

I am borrowing an external BD burner for directly after I am done a fresh install of windows 7 U64, just because I want to have a perfect install image available in hard copy, and DVDs would require using a separate back up/compress/split/boot up/recompile/copy program. This is something I have done in the past, only to have it bite me with disc 2 of 5 being degraded to the point of corruption, after only 4 months old.
BD apparently is a lot more secure in that fashion, with disc degradation taking more extreme environments to hasten.

Forgot to finish by saying, this is hardly a good enough reason for me to spend on a burner for myself. I have to admit though, since my xp64 doesn’t like streaming to the PS3 (at all) it would be tempting to copy my digital files to BD, instead of using USB sticks or external drives. But that is a moot point, since W7U64 apparently plays very nice with the PS3.

But the main rason that GTA: Chinatown Wars is coming to the PSP is because it was a flop on the DS. We usually get better GTA titles just look at Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories nothing like that crappy GTA: Chinatown Wars.
If you a own a PSP or PS2 like you don’t already own a couple buy MotorStorm: Artic Edge is awesome you will love it the controls are perfect online rocks Sony needs to bundle this master piece.

roca, you win. Sony could not say no to a port of Chinatown Wars no matter what as R* owns Sony and does what it wants. Sony has no say whatsoever and has never denied a port of a game to it’s consoles in the past, my bad.
Ivan, I totally agree, Sony can’t afford to deny any quality titles, especially ones like GTA: Chinatown Wars, which has so far received better reviews overall than Vice City or Liberty City stories on PSP. Wise move in making the decision to approve the port to PSP.

I can honestly say I’ve never had a hard drive fail on me in 6 years.
The last couple of 1tb drives I bought were so cheap (and they are decent energy efficient Western Digi units).
I did have to update the firmware on a 500gb & 1tb Seagate but that was a piece of the preverbial pi$$.
I find HDD to be as safe as houses and incredibly cost efficient on the gb/$.
You just have to remember to drag your clones out every 12mths to power up & have them self-diagnose and fix any sectors which have started to degrade & get iffy.

I enjoy a a bit Gears of War offline no lie. My main reason for owning the damn thing is because i had 3 Xbox 1 already and i had a couple games. So i had to have it since it was a new console and the only one out plus it was just $400 really cheap in price. I’m also looking forward to Alan Awake I’ll be the first one to buy it not stealing this game. Also i liked a little bit Halo 2 because the cutscene were really awesome. Other then that i have no reason to won it. I will say i have more fun with the original Xbox console.

Afghan was freezing when i was there at 1st, minus 40 lol. Warmed up near end of the tour, but I loved it out there, It’s what you join for.
