Bioware exploring Mod support on PS3 for Dragon Age: Origins

October 25, 2009

Bioware exploring Mod support on PS3 for Dragon Age: Origins Bioware, the studio behind Mass Effect recently unveiled some interesting news about its next big game, Dragon Age: Origins. The studio indicated that Bioware is exploring the possibility of bringing mod support for the PS3 version of the game. The developers also talk a little about working on the PS3 for the first time.

Bioware’s next big title Dragon Age: Origins is slated to hit consoles Nov. 3 on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3 simultaneously in the North America. The PS3 version was slated to release a little later in November, but the studio recently announced that the game will release on time.

During a lengthy Q&A session on the official Playstation Blog, the team at Bioware answered some questions for the fans on the site. One of the attendees, WormFOODx asked Bioware if the PS3 version of the Dragon Age: Origins (DA: O) will have mod support like the PC version. WormFOODx referenced Unreal Tournament III as another PS3 game which had extensive mod support.

He stated:

[Comment From WormFOODx]

With games that your team has created in the past, user generated content has been a major staple of the game. Has there been any development or exploration around adding this feature to the PS3 version, much like Unreal did?

Greg Zeschuk, VP of Bioware stated that they are exploring the option of taking mods from the PC to the PS3. Zeschuk seems optimistic that this will happen and also indicated that it still needs to be worked out with Sony.

Zeschuk stated:

DoktorZee_BioWare:

For WormFOODx – User created content is a big part of the game on PC (as the tools launch at the same time as  the PC version)  and we are exploring the options for taking across the best user-created content from PC to PS3.   Obviously this is something we need to work out with Sony, but we’re hopeful it can happen as it would be super-cool.

It is not clear if Bioware is looking at pushing mods through PSN as downloadable content or offering it on disc, like the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III. The fact that he stated “best user-created content” makes it unclear as to how it will be available. The method EPIC Games implemented seems quite good as any gamer can download the mod directly from the PS3’s browser. Bioware may want to take a closer look at Unreal Tournament III’s mod delivery system.

Mark Darrah talked a little about developing on the PS3 as well.

He stated:

We are really happy with the results on the PS3. It was our first experience and we were really impressed with the power of the machine. I think fans will love the end result!

Owners of the PC version of the game will have access to the developer-grade toolset, which is what Bioware used to create the game. It will be interesting to see how Bioware will implement user-created content for Dragon Age: Origins on the consoles, so gamers can experience the great stuff coming out of the mod community. Check out the official Playstation Blog for the full transcript of the Q&A session.

  1. Roca.:

Seems like I was right after all :)
    End of argument.

  2. Ivan_PSP:

Hell Yeah mods would be cool and the PS3 would have something over the Xbox 360 version like Unreal did. Sony is unleashing new powers always. They really thought hard before making the PS3 you can already tell, that they knew almost exactly what was going to happen in the near future.

  3. CON:

I can’t say anything bad about Bioware. They’ve been very good to me. If Bioware is behind a ps3 game you’re gonna be in for a treat.

  4. CarlB:

Hope they have a spare half million plus to spend if they plan on delivering it for free over PSN :)
Guess we’ll have to wait until after it’s released to see how it pans out with both versions before anyone is “right” ;D

  5. RobertCarr316:

I never was a big fan of bioware or any of their games I won’t be picking this up

  6. CarlB:

Anybody want some Hot Pockets? No, Sony would never do anything like that… lol.

  7. phranctoast:

    mmmmmm hot pockets

  8. Ghost:

“Hope they have a spare half million plus to spend if they plan on delivering it for free over PSN”

I’m sure it will even out…After all M$ will just charge you 360 guys double for what we get free..I think “Bioware” knows it will get paid.

  9. CarlB:

Netflix is free on PS3? News to me… wait you mean they are charging for XBL Silver now? No… oh you mean for multiplayer… I think if I was that into it I wouldn’t want the unstable connection I’ve been experiencing lately with my PS3 (and no it has nothing to with my ISP as my laptop connection is rocksteady at the same time), let alone interspersed game freezes. Uncharted 2 was definitely worth renting and playing regardless of the two freezes I have experienced on crushing in later chapters though.

Didn’t know you had a 360 Ghost… what’s your gamertag? (CarlB returns to playing Uncharted 2 and some Shadow Complex later on… craving real pizza -no, not Papa Johns either- after booting up PS3 and seeing Hot Pockets ad on first screen to come up)

  10. SW:

“and no it has nothing to with my ISP as my laptop connection is rocksteady at the same time”

It could still be the route to the PSN servers.

  11. CarlB:

You might be right SW… but I guess that would just mean that the route to the XBL servers is better for me personally… so end result the same. Not saying this is across the board, I can only speak for myself.

  12. Ghost:

Well speaking honestly they booted me off the PSN around midnight last night…I guess they were fixing something who knows. I was about to face an invading black phantom too damn I wanted his souls lol talk about bad timing..As for game freezing CarlB that is all part of console gaming so don’t even try and say your beloved x-box NEVER freezes. And I wasn’t trying to be a smart ass with my last comment I was just stating what would happen if Bioware doesn’t charge for anything they put on the PSN…But hell who knows the game isn’t even out yet and they are ready screwed over alot of PC gamers with this game.

  13. SW:

I had a long drawn out fight with a BP last nite, he beat me :( afterwards i was talking to him and he told me he was holding a million souls :|

He didn’t want to level up because he wanted to play with his friends…

I was gutted until about 30 mins later when I farmed a million for myself ;)

  14. Roca.:

CarlB: “Netflix is free on PS3? News to me… wait you mean they are charging for XBL Silver now? No…”

    quote from the web:

“f you have a silver (free) Xbox Live account, you won’t be able to stream movies from Netflix account when the “New Xbox Experience” drops this fall.

Netflix is such a casual service and a paid subscription is already required for Xbox users to access the service through their 360. But a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription is needed on top of that. Why would Microsoft limit who can access this cool feature?

I asked Microsoft about this decision at E3, but they couldn’t give me a clear answer.”

  15. Roca.:

    **********Netflix Partnership*******

This exclusive partnership offers you the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers**”

  16. Roca.:

CarlB: “Anybody want some Hot Pockets? No, Sony would never do anything like that… lol.

“after booting up PS3 and seeing Hot Pockets ad on first screen to come up)”

first of all thats a TV show, and second of all thats not the first you will see as it is on the bottom of the “wats new” list, it takes 15-20 secs for anybody to notice it.

  17. Ghost:

lol I have never noticed it…I guess I will have to look I thought CarlB was joking. SW it would so so so nice if I met up with some BP hording that many souls lol.

  18. CarlB:

“As for game freezing CarlB that is all part of console gaming so don’t even try and say your beloved x-box NEVER freezes.”

Um… no, that wasn’t a regular part of my console gaming until I got my “beloved” (where did this word pop up from? Thanks roca and ghost, but sorry, I’m not emotionally involved with my consoles… okay, maybe my Sega Genesis back in high school, but that was a LONG time ago, lol) PS3 Slim.

To be honest, I did have the same problem on 360 (and I’ve stated this before), but only after almost four years of using the same console, it started to be a problem so I replaced it, and haven’t had any problems with my new model. I’ve had more problems on my PS3 with this in a month than I had with my 360 in almost four years. Anecdotal I know, but still what I go off of.

    Roca,

Sorry, but I thought we covered this before: both Gold and Netflix one at a time (disc) combined costs save me more than I was paying with two at a time (disc) and I get to watch more of what I want at anytime, vice having to wait for a disc in the mail. Not to mention the fact that Netflix over 360 is of a much higher quality than through my laptop, so until Netflix comes free or less expensive on PS3 this is no comparison or issue for me personally.

“first of all thats a TV show…”

First of all the frame itself is an ad for hotpockets, and those are advertisements for Hot Pockets, not “TV Shows”. Second of all, I wait 20 seconds for PS3 (360 is about the same at 19) to boot to the main menu (navigational), 38 seconds for it to boot to the main “what’s new” section (39 for 360 and spotlight, which also has McD’s ad) and sign in automatically, then only another 15 seconds for it to scroll to hot pockets automatically, but yes, it was the first thing I came back to after booting up the PS3 and having stepped into the next room for a moment.

That really isn’t that long as it does take 49 seconds (yes, over twice as long) to boot into UC2 main menu, then another 47 seconds to load my saved game, all while staring at a spinning dagger, joy, but still a vast improvement over MGS4 load/install times.

But the only reason I even mentioned it was because when 360 did have an ad, the argument was that PSN did not even though it was free, and Sony wouldn’t do anything like that, only Microsoft. I guess times have changed, but I’m not complaining.

  19. Barnabe Jones:

Wait… how did you farm a million souls?!?! Is it from new game+?

  20. Roca.:

you have been on “Ivan” mode lately CarlB. all you wrote up there was to “counter” my comment with a “360 vs PS3″. nothing you said was a simple response to my comments (could have responded with something like: Thanks, Roca I didnt know Silver members cound not use netflix. or something like: oh your right that is NOT the first thing you see when you boot the PS3. instead you started comparing time between other unrelated stuff lol) but it clearly seems that you are emotionally involved your 360.

as you noticed I didnt even mention the 360 on my comments (just on the netflix comment, because you stated Netflix was a service for the “free” sivler members). you then put on you “ivan” mode and started comparing stuff.

    good job Jarhead

  21. CarlB:

    Roca,

Whoa, slow down there little buddy. “Ivan” mode is only recognizing one console and not the other, and if it is recognized then calling it garbage, while the other is “perfect/ultimate/all gaming” and not admitting any problems with it as I have above, let alone admitting to playing exclusive games on it. The comparison made above was simply that, and no where was it said that one was “better” than the other somehow.

If I do talk about PS3/360 it is because I have both and can note what I see about the two from my own personal experience. It may not always be as popular to PS3 only owners here as me praising Uncharted, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls, or talking about how much I want to play the upcoming God of War titles (as I have done frequently in the past)… but hey, nothing’s perfect, right?

And hey, in Ivan’s defense, he has made vast improvements lately in talking about the 360, titles he likes playing on it, and even how he is looking forward to the next gen Wii.

In my last comment here I was simply responding to your already “360/XBL vs PS3/PSN” post, and if you notice, I never use “PS3rd/4th/5th” or “$ony” like you have used “XBot” or “M$” very recently and frequently in the past as well (congrats on not using it in this thread btw, a vast improvement :) .

But, “thanks roca” I already knew Silver Members could not use Netflix as I already mentioned it in the past and we have discussed it before. And “oh your right that is NOT the first thing you see when you boot the PS3″, what you do see first is a little sparkly wavy thing you can’t do anything with. Well actually, the first thing you see when you boot the PS3 is the lights on the console for ten seconds before anything comes on screen.

In any case I will be more specific in the future and say “I booted up the PS3 today and then stepped out of the room momentarily, and when I came back I was staring at a big fat Hot Pockets ad frame paused on the screen in front of me… or… As I was looking on the first screen on PS3 after it booted up completely I saw a Hot Pockets Ad frame (interspersed with other game/video ads) scroll up and pause on an indefinite loop until I did something on the PS3 instead of my laptop.”

“you stated Netflix was a service for the “free” sivler members”

Sorry, but I never said that, in fact I have mentioned it several times that you need to be a Gold member, but you still save money over a two at a time subscription and get to see even more content more often, so it is a great deal.

*Ghost: “After all M$ will just charge you 360 guys double for what we get free..”

*me: “Netflix is free on PS3? (this is currently a service I enjoy on 360 that is not available on PS3) News to me… wait you mean they are charging for XBL Silver now (essentially the same service as PSN, minus internet and home which I do not care for on PS3, I prefer the internet on my laptop)? No… oh you mean for multiplayer… I think if I was that into it I wouldn’t want the unstable connection I’ve been experiencing lately with my PS3″

I asked if Netflix was free on PS3 now or if Microsoft was charging for XBL Silver before talking about online multiplayer which Microsoft does charge a fee for. Read for understanding roca, don’t just read what you want to see.

    good job knucklehead

  22. Funkinstien:

    @ CarlB
Your not alone. My ps3 will freeze while playing fallout 3 probably from the game being buggy. Also Uncharted will freeze once in a while if I play for to long. Uncharted makes my ps3 so hot I could cook hot pockets on it. Other than that my ps3 dont freeze even if Im using it for a long time.

  23. CarlB:

Funkinstien (nice touch on the stien instead of stein btw… Young Frankenstein ref?),

Good to know. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 (not nearly as many times on Uncharted 2) are the only ones I’ve had the problem with so far… but I haven’t really noticed much heat at all on the slim… you have it or an old fatty? Kind of shaped like a hot pocket too now that I think about it :)

  24. Ivan_PSP:

    I never have problems weird.

  25. CarlB:

You played the original Uncharted without the trophy patch Ivan… may be part of it, plus it was way before 3.0.

  26. Ivan_PSP:

I play UNCHARTED since 2007 many times on my cousin’s PS3 i also play it with FW 2.70 up to 3.01 no problem.

  27. CAD:

You see people what is happening to my good buddy Carl B is a symptom by the name of “not living upto to expectations”. You see were told daily that the PS3 is the god of gaming and that PSN is better then Live and that Sony has the best exclusives and that ther are no ads on the PS3 etc. etc. etc…… So when your told about all this greatness and then you get this greatness only to realize that this greatness is not all that great. It then becomes real easy to notice all these deficiencies. The stark difference between excellence and mediocre becomes obvious as the clear and obvious choice is LIVE!

  28. Ivan_PSP:

    CAD:
You jealous much LoL. Get a life dude. You don’t have a PS3 so STFU and play your Shit dumb ass. LMFAO complaining for fears…

  29. phranctoast:

Kind of a shame this game is not based off of Dungeons and Dragons. Neverwinter nights was a great game. This is supposed to be the “sequel” to the Baldurs gate games yet its not Forgotten Realms. They probably wanted to steer clear of the 4th edition rules. They really threw a monkey wrench in there.

  30. Roca.:

CalrB: “People started writing Microsoft in the form of M$ for one of two reasons, they are either blind fanboys who can’t use the proper term and/or recognize that Microsoft has made a ton of money and will likely continue to do so.”

CalrB: “In any case, non-fanboys don’t use terms like “M$””

CalrB: “I suggest you stop using the term “M$” if you don’t want to be seen as a fanboy and seem at least halfway intelligent.”

CalrB: “you have used “M$” very recently and frequently in the past as well”

Here is a history lesson for you:(pulled from the web)
“M$ – Short for Microsoft, used to imply Microsoft cares more for money than it does for security, stability, and anything else that could make a good Operating System. ”

Like I said…the term M$ has been out for a while and way before the Xbox came out…this is not a fanboy thing, it been out since Windows 95. I have been using for years because it is faster than typing it. and does not relate to anybody’s intelligence

  31. phranctoast:

I got rid of netflix before it was available on Live.

Have they made improvements to the streaming? I personally thought it was terrible before. I may get a trial membership just to check it out again.

  32. Funkinstien:

    @Carlb
I have a mgs4 ps3 so it was one of the last with bc.

I got funkinstien from madtv back in the day when it was good.

  33. Funkinstien:

Anyone playing Borderlands. Its like an open world, dungeon crawling, shooter. Plus there are dancing robots.

  34. Roca.:

    hey Funk,

I have been looking closely at Borderlands? hows the game? I dont like open worlds games that are TOO OPEN. I fall asleep if a I have to spend 10 mins to get from one place to the other (Oblivion)

  35. Funkinstien:

Its not fallout 3 open where you can goes everywhere at the start. Also it doesnt take long to get anywhere because there are cars and teleporters. Basically you start with a small chuck of land, do some missions and more places open up.

    AND DONT FORGET DANCING ROBOTS!!!!!

  36. Roca.:

    LOL

fine….I will get it eaither this week or the week after.

wats ur PSN ID? if I dont like you are going to hear it from me ;)

  37. phranctoast:

Best buy is having a buy two get one free on ps3 and 360 games. It might be time to go shopping.

  38. Funkinstien:

my psn id is Rontramp but im hardly even on.

If your not sure about it then rent it first.

  39. Ivan_PSP:

    phranctoast:
This is a good deal if you a PS3 lucky owner. But not for Xbots owner since for Xbox 360 you can just get the game free.

  40. Roca.:

“my psn id is Rontramp but im hardly even on”

you dont play borderlands online…I heard its one of its best features

  41. CarlB:

    @roca,

“Here is a history lesson for you:(pulled from the web)”

Oh, I see we now use the Urban dictionary for history lessons, noted. So since you believe this site is good for “history lessons”, let’s pull up another term:

    Sony:

“Retarded DRM-monkeys and puppets of the RIAA who are willing to install spyware-like software unbeknownst to their users regardless of the fact that they are only hurting the people who actually bought their product… A company who doesn’t give the slightest shit about you, whether you detest them or swear allegiance to the Playstation. Ruthless when it comes to business, they’ll fuck over and bully as many companies as it takes to make money. Sony fanboys are the easiest to troll, but the hardest to understand; being loyal to a company who cares about nothing but your wallet makes no sense.”

“I have been using for years because it is faster than typing it.”

Just type MS then, as it is faster and people here will know that you are talking about Microsoft, as others do the same. I notice you left the term “XBot” alone though, good to see you becoming less of a fanboy instead of more than one.

    @phranctoast,

“Have they made improvements to the streaming?”

Yes, is extremely crisp and clear on XBL and a ton better than on my pc.

  42. CAD:

    LOL LOL LOL LOL LOLolollollLolloo

    Wow that was great!!

  43. phranctoast:

is it at least DVD quality?

  44. CAD:

    I like this one

    Sony

“A company who creates a variety of products which tend to easily break.
Billy: Dude, sony’s making playstation 3!

Bob: I know dude, I already saved up 10,000 bucks to buy 3 of them for back up . . . “

  45. CAD:

Oh there are some good ones in the Urban Dictionary

    Sony

A company that’s 10 times bigger than Microsoft but gets a free pass from the fanboy American public because they have Squaresoft games and don’t railroad American companies. Overcharges for their electronics because of the name regardless of more reliable brands being out there for cheaper.
I listened to my Sony-licensed CD with my Sony-made Discman with Sony-made headphones while playing my Sony Playstation 2 with NFL Gameday 2004 made by Sony-owned 989. Then I played Sony-owned Everquest on my Sony-made Vaio laptop online while listening to Sony-licenced Joan of Arcadia on my Sony television.

Bill Gates could only dream of having that much power.

    Sony

Also one of the 5 major music corporations which control 90+ percent of American music. Ironic, since Sony is a Japanese company.
    The RIAA loves Sony’s cock.

  46. CAD:

    Microsoft

Organisation bent on world domination masquerading as a software company.

    Microsoft

A large terrorist organisation, hell bent on producing software that crashes and works slowly. Some of their more evil tactics over the years include waiting until just before you click the save button to make the screen go all blue for no reason, but more subtle tactics include waiting until you start to work, then annoying you with a sodding paper clip.
Josh: “I’ll just get on with some work…”
    Microsoft Paperclip: “Hello!”
Josh: *I’ll just ignore him, and he’ll go away*…. *starts to type*
Microsoft Paperclip: “Do you want to write a letter?”
    Josh: “No.”
Microsoft Paperclip: “Okay, do you need some help with that?”
Josh: “NO! NO! NO I DONT FUCKING WANT SOME HELP! PISS OFF!!”
*clicks on hide, paperclip dissapears*…*begins to work…*

    … 2 minutes pass …

    Microsoft Paperclip: “Hello!”

  47. Ivan_PSP:

    CAD:
I’m glad you notice the how powerful Sony corp is.

  48. CAD:

    Oh this stuff is great

  49. Roca.:

Carlb why you try to “counter” eveything I said with somthing towards Sony or the PS3?

I just posted that to show you that not only “fanboys” use the term M$, and that in fact it came out during the early Windows days. there wasnt any need to post anything Sony-related as we were discussing the just the term “M$”, which stand for “Microsoft” as Company and has nothing to do with the Xbox. again I just posted it because you implied that by using the term M$ it shows some one’s (lower) intellectual abilities. I did not posted to compare it to Sony. I didnt know you were an one upper.

but you are right about the term Xbot. im not arguing that…im not countering it. period

  50. CAD:

    “Xbot

Most intelligent of all videogame fans.”

    Gotta love the Urban Dictionary

  51. CarlB:

    Roca,

I thought it was clear I was just answering you because you used an invalid “reference” as a “history lesson”, though it was a fun exercise. I answer you most of the time to balance what you are saying, not to “one up” you.

“we were discussing the just the term ‘M$’, which stand for ‘Microsoft’ as Company”

Um… no… didn’t come up on the first page of Google results… no results on acronymfinder.com.
If you want to know the acronym though, it is MS, and it’s even “faster to type” for you as I know you mentioned that to be a problem earlier.

  52. Roca.:

CarlB, “because you used an invalid “reference” as a “history lesson””

    Here is a Wiki one,

    “Micro$oft, M$:

used to emphasize the allegation that Microsoft has business practices that focus on making money rather than producing good products or looking after the end user’s needs and interests. Microsoft was convicted under United States anti-trust law of taking unfair advantage of its monopoly position. Also criticized for taking advantage of loyal customers and upgrading products annually for an expensive price, thus “shafting” the people who bought last year’s products”

“I answer you most of the time to balance what you are saying, not to “one up” you”

Balancing what..you are trying to one up me even because i used the term M$ (sorry but I got used to it from many other PC and OS forums). balancing by saying that it shows my “lower” intellectual ability just because I used a term that apperantly you dont like to see.

bring Sony in a discussiong of a simple term does not balance anything. Like I said I just wanted to let you know that “not only PS3 fanboys used the term M$, and it came out before ppl started troll about X360 vs PS3″. I was trying to compare or make a debate between the 2 companies. my post was just about the “M$” word.

so you would prefer me using MS instead of M$? if it make you happy …then why not

  53. Ghost:

For only $8.99 a month, Netflix members can instantly watch unlimited movies and TV episodes streamed to their TVs and computers via Netflix ready devices such as the PS3 system and can receive unlimited DVDs delivered quickly to their homes.

“The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.”

How much is M$ charging again LMAO…

Yeah you got love the champ…..hows that for your dictionary

  56. CarlB:

    @roca,

Calm down. Sorry it was colored differently here to me as you usually use it with the term “XBot”. I was just giving you feedback so you sounded less like a fanboy and more mature. I see you took part of the feedback and used it, congrats.

“…by saying that it shows my “lower” intellectual ability”

Well, I never said that you had “lower intelligence,” you did. I would pay close attention to that because it’s a thought coming from your own mind for some reason. But if you took it that way for whatever reason I apologize.

I really don’t think somebody’s personal wiki is a better reference, you seem to be taking whatever you can find and trying to make it sound more official as “history”, for some unknown reason. It just sounds like more fanboy tripe to me, but again, I was just giving you feedback and you can sound whatever way you like. Just take it as me giving you something so you could “type faster”. It really doesn’t bother me anyway, you just seemed to be truly concerned about others sounding like fanboys in the recent past, so I thought I might give you some feedback on your own comments.

I answered your question honestly and sincerely by saying I was trying to balance out your ridiculous anti-Microsoft “definition” with an equally ridiculous fake anti-Sony “definition” (as a mirror comment to show just how ridiculous it sounded) all day but you will just say I was trying to “one up” you somehow.

Sorry, did my best and I can’t control how you perceive what I say, I can only answer your questions to the best of my ability… and I’m really not sure where the “shows my ‘lower’ intellectual ability” came into play at all.

If you’re really interested in presenting a “history lesson” of both companies, try Wikipedia as a start instead of personal wikis and the Urban dictionary. It has plenty of valid references, links, etc. to focus on the equally sordid past of both Sony and Microsoft. Be sure to cross-reference, but it is fairly easy to recognize PR hype and biased pieces like those mentioned previously.

I was going to post that two days ago lol u you beat to it.

    Ghost,

“How much is M$ charging again LMAO…”

I have to admit I will be the first of many to drop the $3/mo Gold XBL sub IF it the quality on PSN is on par with XBL HD streaming. Other than that, Last.fm and 1080p instant on movies (if priced decently) would be the only thing keeping me on the sub, if implemented in a quality manner (I could care less for twitter, facebook, avatars, and 1 vs 100- yes I tried it, meh). Microsoft needs to do something quick if they don’t want to lose out on a ton of subscribers.

    CarlB.

They should make the Netflix deal good for Silver members also. That will make it completely on par with what PSN is offering.

I personally believe this will be their answer.

    phranctoast:
Thanks that’s what i was thinking too.

  61. CarlB:

phranctoast, we won’t know exactly what PSN is offering until it comes out. Right now it sounds like you will be able to use it through the web browser on PSN, which frankly, is of a much lesser visual quality than what is currently on XBL Gold. Could go either way, we’ll just have to wait and see.

“”Right now it sounds like you will be able to use it through the web browser on PSN”

the Bluray disc from netflix will activate a nexflix app on the XMB. nothing to do with the brower.

as some of us have noticed, sometimes you can find videos on the “whats new” that are directly streamed from the PSN. but thats my guess.

I dont think it will be through the browser because MS has the PS3 browser blocked from so many drivers/plugins/add-ons needed to watch videos. I hope they dont block facebook

  63. phranctoast:

I heard it was a BD Live app that will enable it.

  64. Ivan_PSP:

    phranctoast:
yeah Netflix needs the disc on PS3 for BD Live and some extra stuff for PS3 only. The disc is just temporary.

  65. CarlB:

“thats my guess… I dont think it will be through the browser”

Yes, just guesses and thoughts now. I already signed up for the disc and will give a comparison as soon as I get it. If it is of the same quality and convenience (navigation and queue abilities through the console itself, one of the first things mike mentioned as an inconvenience of the XBL iteration when it initially released before it was ultimately fixed) I will one of the first to switch next month.

You must be kidding me, where in the red light of hell did you get that from. Microsoft has no right over Facebook well some for Xbox 360. And what drivers there’s no need also Microsoft doesn’t do Linux. Also plugins for what. Microsoft has no power over Sony’s behemoth.
