Wii 2 details leak – out in 2010?
Rumors of a follow-up to the Wii have been coming thick and fast almost as long as the original Wii has been out. Nintendo has never admitted the new hardware exists but reports of a Wii 2 or Wii HD being in development have persisted. And now there’s a new one, with the ‘Wii2′ supposedly set to be released worldwide late in 2010. Possibly.
MaxConsole claims to have obtained leaked information from Nintendo France concerning the Wii 2. The console is being targeted for a Q3 2010 release date, with a blu-ray drive and 1080p HD being the notable upgrades over the original console. There’s also mention of some kind of trade-in deal for Wii owners, although the details are somewhat sketchy at the moment.

This is just a rumor at this stage, as all the others have been over the past couple of years. But the timing would be right, with sales of the Wii starting to drop off after a long period of climbing. And the specs so far leaked would also make sense, with the Wii2 essentially building on the original Wii, with high-definition being the order of the day.
So, do you believe it? Or is this more BS?

Looks like console gaming is moving to a faster pace than days done by. Rather than getting a new console every 6-7 years or so, it looks like they are going to get upgraded on the move. Look at the DS and the iphone/ipod.
To be honest though the Wii has the shortest shelf life in terms of internal technology. Maybe it will stay popular with the mainstream who don’t give a damn about blu ray and HD etc… but that depends on what the Wii 2 is. If it is compatible with the original Wii and has the same pulling power of the Wii then maybe it can keep the ball rolling in terms of sales.

looking at how they are milking the DS (a new version coming out soon called “DSi LL”) I wouldnt be surprise if there is a Wii 2 next year..but I highly doubt it will use BD for game as you dont need that much space for mini game. Wii2 might upgrade its graphics (about time)and will have a BD drive for movies

It really does not make sense…:

1 and 2 could happen, who knows?.
3 is too soon, the console should sell ~ 100k monthly or less in the NPD for taking this step.
4 Nothing special here.
5 Not very realistic is it? Sounds right for Wii owners but not for business models.
It seems they can wait some more before putting new technology in the market.
…And I am sure glad my girlfriend got herself a DSLite and not a DSi.

thats why I said BD will not be for gaming while both Nintendo and Sony can benefit from having a BD drive (for movies) on the Wii since the Wii doesnt even play DVD out the box

Yes and no. I think Nintendo has generally been a generation behind on certain features. Look at thier networking support. They only really had a serious crack at it with Wii (yes they had GC stuff, but c’mon…) and even now Wii’s online offerings are pathetic and way too restrictive (friend codes suck bags of dicks if you’re reading Nintendo
)..
So for them to add media functionality with their next offering makes some sense. They also have a far more casual market than ever before. Just by looking around my workplace and talking to people there are lots more 25+ women with Wii’s so thats alot more disposable income for movie rentals etc.
Still, I don’t think its coming in 2010 unless the Wii suddenly tanks (which we all know it ain’t gonna).
Whenever it comes, it will be interesting to see what Nintendo does with it… Anyone see that dragons den where you put on a VR helmet and climb into a $16,000 hamster ball?

The idea of friend codes would be good if, and only if, this had to be done ONCE for friend from the console and not for each game. One code is enough control.
About features, Nintendo tries to remain unique most of the time, for good and bad. For example: I think the DS could have many iTouch-like features, but that would put both in direct competence. People gets the impression they are different even when they could use the latter as a gaming handheld too.
In the case of the Wii, no DVD support makes the console cheaper. The capability to reproduce them is there, they just didn´t pay the fee to use it (you can unlock that with homebrew, right?). Oh well, even in México most households have one DVD per TV already.

I hope Wii 2 if is real and it ever comes out i hope they have a new controller full 1080p support no component crap. Also it needs to have Blu-ray Disc support. A brand new online service like the PSN and to be free. A brand new menu similar to PS3 easy to navigate and really cool. No power brick and high quality. At least $300-400 Blutooth headset and keyboard support. A copy of PLAYSTATION Home. And most importantly a brand new vision for gaming games similar to PS3. Also a camera support for video chat.
I have never touched or play any Nintedno product but if this one has what i want i will break the hate and bring a gaming beast to my world of gaming.

No, and yes is my vision looks like a PS3. And i know i have it. But the Wii if it comes out the way i wanna to it will have more and better games plus new exclusives it will be fun for Sony to have a real hardware competition for once. No sarcasm all real. It will be cool to see two Japanese visionary gaming company fighting for real gamers.
Also my vision is similar for an Xbox Portable i even got the name already XP. Make it like PSP but more powerful and have more features for $200-250. And have your own company make games for once.

Agreed. Your finger usually obscures a large part of the screen and it is very hard to get accuracy in even the top rated games on the platform. My PSP has received a ton more attention from me total than my DS or iPhone has over the course of their time in my possession, at least when it comes to games (sorry but I have to make and receive phone calls, plus the apps rock on the iPhone).

I only have a iPod Touch no iPhone yet but they basically the same shit. As for apps i don’t bother with that crap. And i said that touch screen suck for games for so many reasons is just lame. I highly doubt Apple will ever succeed in gaming. That’s Sony’s and Nintendo’s world.
